Offset Explains Why He Believes Jay-Z Is ‘The GOAT’: ‘Bro, On Rap, You Can’t Play With Him!’

In a new clip making the rounds online, Offset spoke to Complex‘s Speedy Morman, and was asked about who his “GOAT” (greatest of all time) rapper would be. His response? None other than Jay-Z.

“I gotta say Hov — all his sh*t is platinum,” Offset said. “So, sometimes the success is the reason why people say he’s the greatest of all time, what he did after Rap. Bro, on Rap, you can’t play with him! You can’t play with him since the beginning of time. He always had the biggest records, he always got the biggest people and did the biggest records, and he still come back and make impactful records, right now.”

“That’s a fact. Some of them more than platinum,” Speedy replies.

“If Jay do a verse right now, everybody wanna hear it to support what the man saying,” Offset continued. “Twelve bars, ’cause it’s not a—then he so up but his flows be so relatable.”

Offset also lists his GOAT interview moment. While Speedy lists his interview with Ray J, Offset lists a tense 2017 red carpet moment featuring Akademiks. “You got to look at act two though, during the interview,” he said.

At that year’s BET Awards, DJ Akademiks found himself in the middle of a feud between his Everyday Struggles cohost Joe Budden and Offset’s group Migos. Things went south after Akademiks pointed out that member Takeoff didn’t have a verse on the trio’s hit song “Bad And Boujee.” Budden walked out of the interview, which only escalated things before security stepped in to stop an altercation.

Offset Drops $50k On Flight To Attend Son’s First Football Game

Offset

Recently, Atlanta rapper Offset proved why he should be Father of the Year. The “Ric Flair” rapper spent $50k on a jet to make it to his son’s first football game. The father of five took to Twitter to prove that money “ain’t a thing” for his children.  Offset shared that he spent $50k on […]

Offset Performs ‘Code’ And ‘54321’ While Promoting His Show ‘The Hype’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

Quavo and Takeoff, aka 2/3 of Migos, announced their duo album Only Built For Infinity Links earlier today, but they aren’t the only members of the Atlanta trio dropping new music soon. Offset, the third leg of the Migos tripod, has also been gearing up for a solo project, releasing the singles “54321” and “Code” in anticipation. Last night, he stopped by the Tonight Show to perform a medley of the new songs and talk with Jimmy Fallon about his other projects like his show The Hype and his and Cardi B’s son Wave’s over-the-top first birthday celebration.

In explaining his reasoning for launching The Hype, Offset talked about how he wants to give a platform to streetwear designers while preparing them for the trials of breaking into the world of fashion, which can be brutal for up-and-coming designers. He also recalled how he discovered his oldest son has been making beats on the side and his plans to let him develop before working with him as a father/son tandem.

Meanwhile, fans continue to wonder whether Offset has had some sort of falling out with the other two Migos since they are all releasing separate projects and remaining cagey about the group’s status. Offset also had some legal issues with the group’s label, Quality Control Music, which he says is trying to take credit for his solo material. Whether that friction contributed to the group’s (temporary?) dissolution also remains to be seen. Until then, you can check out Offset’s interview and performance above.

Quavo And Takeoff Announce Their Wu-Tang Clan-Inspired Unc And Phew Album Title

Ever since Quavo and Takeoff dropped their first Offset-less single, “Hotel Lobby,” under the mouthful of a moniker Unc And Phew, fans have wondered whether they are still Migos, whether Offset will rejoin at some point, and even whether or not Unc And Phew is actually the group’s name (no one seems to actually be using it).

And now, we know the title of their upcoming duo album thanks to a trailer shared on Quavo’s social media pages (but not the Migos pages or Takeoff’s pages, further complicating the issue). It’s ironic that the new album they just announced evokes the name of a Wu-Tang Clan member’s classic solo debut because the rollout has been one big Wu-Tang caliber question mark. Only Built For Infinity Links is due on October 7, giving them a full 30 days to sort this rollout and get fans invested.

They’re already well on the way with “Hotel Lobby” and its follow-up, “Big Stunna” featuring Birdman, but fans can’t help questioning whether this really means the end of Migos, especially since Offset has been teasing his own solo project. While each member of the group did release a solo project a few years ago and Quavo has even done group projects with other artists, the trio did make clear that they would reunite after all three individual albums were out. This time, it’s anybody’s guess, and that could work in their favor if fans decide to check out the two albums they’ve got coming out of curiosity, but it could also backfire, since fans love them so much as a trio.

Either way, we’ll find on 10/7 when Only Built For Infinity Links drops on Quality Control Music.
