Eminem, N.W.A, George Clinton, & More To Compete For Induction Into Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Eminem, N.W.A, George Clinton, and Janet Jackson, are among the 26 songwriters who will be competing for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year, the organization announced on Tuesday. Three will be selected in the performing songwriters category while another three will be honored in just the songwriters category. The six winners will be celebrated at the Induction & Awards Gala in New York City, next year.

Among the group are eight members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They include Sheryl Crow, Eminem, Janet Jackson, George Clinton, Mike Love, and Steve Winwood, as well as members of the The Doobie Brothers and N.W.A. Voters will have until December 22nd to submit their choices for the inductees. Last year, the organization honored R.E.M., Steely Dan, and Timbaland as well as Hillary Lindsey, Diane Warren, and the late Cindy Walker.

Along with the complete list of this year’s nominees, the organization shared several songs that highlight their talents, but these “are merely a representative sample of their extensive catalogs.” For Eminem, they selected “Lose Yourself,” “Stan,” “Mockingbird,” “Houdini,” and “Rap God.” With N.W.A., they went with “Express Yourself,” “Dopeman,” “Fu*k Tha Police,” “Gangsta Gangsta,” and “Straight Outta Compton.” Janet Jackson got “Black Cat,” “Together Again,” “Again,” “Got ‘til It’s Gone,” and “Rhythm Nation,” while George Clinton was honored for “Atomic Dog,” “Flash Light,” “(Not Just) Knee Deep,” “I’d Rather Be With You,” and “Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker).”

Last year, SZA was the recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award. “Basically, receiving this award validates my entire career… Thank you for seeing me,” she said at the ceremony.

Nicki Minaj Fans Are Livid Over Her Lack Of 2025 Grammys Nominations For “Pink Friday 2”

The 2025 Grammy Awards nominations are finally here, and it was a big day for women in the music industry. Beyoncé led the whole pack of nominees – any gender – with 11 nominations, the most for any woman in a single year and the most total career nominations (now 99) for any artist. However, there were still some big snubs to talk about concerning these nominations, including a big gap that many Barbz understandably noticed. Despite its submission in multiple categories, Nicki Minaj and her late 2023 album Pink Friday 2 did not receive any nods, including tracks like “Everybody” and “FTCU.” As you can see in the Instagram post down below and its comments, a lot of fans felt like this was a poor decision on behalf of the Recording Academy.

After all, Nicki Minaj found a lot of success with Pink Friday 2 as one of the biggest albums of the past year or so, especially in the commercial realm. Still, other Barbz instead focused on other amazing achievements from this year and the last (a record-breaking tour, other awards, etc.) instead of lamenting the lack of recognition from just one institution. Also, it’s not like the Grammys are the end-all, be-all of the recognition of quality, impactful, and significant music.

The Barbz React To Nicki Minaj’s Grammy Snubs

Some artists get a lot of love from the Grammys, others don’t, and a few massive stars just don’t submit their work at all. With all this in mind, we wonder if the Recording Academy will address these snubs, whether it’s Nicki Minaj or other artists. As for other hip-hop happenings with the Grammy Awards, Kendrick Lamar led the rap world with seven total nominations split across two of his Drake diss tracks. Certainly not the best look for any Recording Academy members looking to combat the narrative of a Young Money bias…

Jokes aside, Nicki Minaj doesn’t need Grammys to acknowledge her magnanimous presence in the game, her untouchable status, and the blessings that continue to come her way. For example, she recently penned a cute anniversary post for her husband, Kenneth Petty. Still, we can’t lie that some more flowers for the Trinidadian femcee wouldn’t hurt.

Beyonce Fans Are Livid After “COWBOY CARTER” Gets Zero Country Music Awards Nominations

Beyonce’s COWBOY CARTER is one of 2024’s big pop culture moments, due in part to the genre conversation that it created. Moreover, it wasn’t the first time that music listeners debated over Black erasure in country music and how racial bias impacts stereotypical stylistic categorization. However, it was probably the biggest discussion on this topic in a while, and it just got a whole lot spicier. Moreover, this year’s Country Music Awards did not nominate the album nor its artist for a single award despite it being one of the highest-grossing country projects of the year. Not even some of the LP’s biggest hits could get some love.

Of course, the Beyhive is absolutely outraged by this, although it’s sadly not very surprising considering the contentious genre dynamics we referred to earlier. But COWBOY CARTER and Beyoncé definitely deserved at least something. This is all pretty ironic because, while the CMAs refuse to acknowledge her work, folks like Donald Trump still try to use her music for their own gain. It’s a cyclical and parasitic relationship sometimes, but the Texas native is big enough to where she can sidestep a lot of these consequences.

Beyonce Gets Snubbed By CMAs

Elsewhere, another source of outrage for Beyoncé fans was KAYTRANADA’s recent comments on her. “Sometimes people don’t see your worth and how important you are. I know what I mean to people,” he said during an interview of her efforts to own the rights to his “CUFF IT” remix. “Mannnn I didn’t drag her that’s just what happened,” KAYTRA clarified online. “The remix didn’t get a release and it is what it is but later that year I opened [for] her on tour AND on her Bday on top of that. Now what? I love that girl & y’all ain’t gonna make me look like I ain’t rocking with her.”

Meanwhile, Beyonce also got some criticism from Azealia Banks recently (a shocker, we know) over her whiskey brand. “I’m sorry Beyonce I love you down,” she tweeted. “But ‘SIRDAVIS’ is a horrible name for a luxury spirits brand. Its so ghetto. Its giving 1980’s hood francophile ‘Latoya, Shaniqua’ teas. Change the name to ‘Renaissance.’ That’s actually a marketing slay. Renaissance whisky gives me classy successful handsome older black man with the good cologne & the good teeth/ spent $500,000 buying out some superbowl box seats / expensive legacy d**k. ‘Sir Davis’ is giving southern comfort/ e&J with some matted dreads and dry knuckles.”

Eminem Slated To Kick Off The 2024 VMAs

Whether you agree with it or not, Eminem has been having quite the 2024. At 51 years young, the Detroit icon put out his eagerly awaited The Death of Slim Shady back in July and it did serious numbers. It moved around 287,000 units and debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 200. Sure, it may have been an inconsistent record, but to be able to do that at this point in his storied career is nothing to sneeze at. Elsewhere, Marshall Mathers became just the second rapper ever to eclipse 50 billion streams. So, yes Eminem has been shattering the mold in multiple ways this year and pretty soon. But he’ll even have another opportunity to do so on Wednesday, September 11.

According to Billboard, he is up for eight nominations at the 2024 VMAs, and six of them are thanks to “Houdini”. They are: “video of the year, best hip-hop, best direction, best editing, best visual effects, and song of the summer”. Then, the other two categories are “artist of the year, and VMAs most iconic performance”. The latter is due to his outing in his debut year of 1999 when Eminem hit the stage to play “Guilty Conscience” and “My Name Is”. If he wins just one of them, he will then possess the most wins by any male artist at the show.

Eminem Hasn’t Opened Up The VMAs Since 2010

He already commands the most hardware for any MC, but that will be another impressive feat for sure. In addition to the potential of taking home a lot of awards, Eminem will also be performing once again. However, he’s doing something he hasn’t done in nearly a decade and a half. He will be tasked with opening up the VMAs right for the first time since 2010 when he rapped “Not Afraid” and “Love The Way You Lie” alongside Rihanna. The Death of Slim Shady will be getting its inaugural run on TV, too, so that should be something to look out for as well.

What are your thoughts on Eminem being picked to open the 2024 VMAs? What songs do you think he will perform to kick off the award show? Do you think they should have selected someone else, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Eminem. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Drake Didn’t Win Any BET Awards Despite Having The Most Nominations This Year

Drake is still at the top of the hip-hop game, and despite having the most nominations at the 2024 BET Awards with seven nods, the fact that he didn’t win any of them isn’t really a strong indicator of any waning success or all that important at the end of the day. Well, that would be the case if rap fans didn’t have a clear example to clown him over when it comes to this year’s awards concerning his big beef. Kendrick Lamar beat Drizzy in the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist category, an outcome that many folks online seem to agree with.

Regardless of what you think of the battle and who won it, it’s pretty wild that the Toronto superstar dropped two projects over the last year and lost to someone with… what, five or six songs including features? Nevertheless, Drake fans can rest easy. Award shows aren’t the end of the world, and this is just a result of this rap beef taking over every other pop culture narrative (the 6ix God didn’t lose his awards because of the battle; just because other nominees got more pull this time around). We’ll see whether his new collabs with Camila Cabello go the distance next year.

Drake At A Houston Rockets Game

Drake BET Awards Lost Kendrick Lamar Nominations Hip Hop News

Also, we doubt that Drake cares at all about this. In fact, he’s probably feeling very giddy and vindicated right now because, as he lost his nominations at the 2024 BET Awards, one of his big rivals right now learned a lesson about playing with him in his country. For those unaware, a group of OVO die-hards recently attacked Rick Ross and his crew for attempting to play Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” at a Vancouver, Canada festival. Everyone involved in this heated feud has trolled a whole lot during it, but these folks learn time and time again that online and on sight are two very different dynamics.

Meanwhile, Drake is still pretty mad about the beef. He’s embracing many of Kendrick’s disses against him online, claiming Spotify validated fake streams for “Not Like Us,” and there are rumors that he might drop another diss track when that West Coast banger’s video drops. The tides are shifting, the game is figuring itself out, but we doubt that some BET Awards losses will be the end of the story. You can never count The Boy out, even during arguably his lowest point in public discource.

Coi Leray Stuns With Pre-Grammys Gala Look & Celebrates Nominations

The 2024 Grammy Awards are right around the corner, and Coi Leray is celebrating her two nominations. Moreover, she posted a video on social media of her excitedly greeting (and inhaling) balloons that spell out “GRAMMY NOM,” presumably in her hotel room. If you didn’t already know, the Massachusetts rapper received nods in the Best Pop Dance Recording and Best Rap Performance categories. The latter is for her Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five-tributing jam, “Players,” whereas the former is for the song “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” which she assisted David Guetta and Anne-Marie on. Not only that, but these are Benzino’s daughter’s first-ever nominations from the Recording Academy.

Furthermore, we can’t really call whether she’ll win the Best Pop Dance Recording category; “Rush” by Troye Sivan is a big favorite. Nevertheless, that’s not our niche, so who are we to say? What we can guess is that Coi Leray actually has a slight chance to win Best Rap Performance, given just how unique each nomination in that field is. Competitors include Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar’s “The Hillbillies” and Black Thought’s “Love Letter,” and you can find our full predictions for the Recording Academy’s hip-hop and R&B categories for 2024 here.

Coi Leray Celebrates Two Grammy Noms

In addition, the 26-year-old also posted a video of her look at the Pre-Grammy Gala: a stunning, sparkling, tight-fitting, light cream dress. Ahead of the ceremony this afternoon (Sunday, February 4; 3:30PM EST for all awards and 8PM EST for the televised event), there are actually a lot of celebrities and nominees like Coi Leray taking the time to celebrate with no pressure. For example, Jay-Z recently hosted a pre-Grammys party in Hollywood with big names like Kim Kardashian and Quavo. It’s a nice way to decompress before the big occasion.

The “Players” MC’s Pre-Grammy Gala Look

Meanwhile, the “Bops” hitmaker often drives fans wild with her style, so it’s no surprise that she popped off for this weekend. Do you think that she’ll take home one or both of these awards or does she have better Grammy years ahead of her? However you may feel, let us know in the comments section down below. Travis Scott, Burna Boy, & More Join Grammy Performers Lineup

Travis Scott, Burna Boy, and Luke Combs have joined the list of performers set to take the stage at the 2024 Grammy Awards. CBS made the announcement during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s NFL game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. The three artists will be joining Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo, who were already announced.

All three of the new artists are up for awards at the ceremony. Scott is nominated in the best rap album category for his latest project, Utopia. Despite having 10 nominations throughout his career, winning at this year’s ceremony would give him his first award. Combs is up for best country solo performance for his version of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” Burna Boy is up for the most awards of all three, being nominated in four categories. These include best global music album (I Told Them…), best African music performance (“City Boys”), best global music performance (“Alone”), and best melodic rap performance (“Sittin’ on Top of the World”). CBS plans to announce more performers in the next two weeks as the ceremony approaches.

Phoebe Bridgers ranks as the second-most nominated artist with seven chances to win, most of which stem from her work with Boygenius. N.W.A. will also be receiving a lifetime achievement award.

The 66th annual Grammy Awards will air on Sunday, February 4 at 8:00 PM on CBS and Paramount+. Be on the lookout for further updates on the ceremony on HotNewHipHop.

Boosie Badazz Has A Theory On His Lack Of Award Nominations

Boosie Badazz is no stranger to airing his unfiltered opinions online, but according to the Louisiana native, it doesn’t come without a cost. Last week, the hitmaker took to social media to share his theory on why he doesn’t get nominated for as many awards as he deserves. He claims that while his musical abilities are undeniable, his outspokenness may be a bit too much for those in charge.

He shared a couple of clips from his “Rocket Man” and “Black & Beautiful” music videos on Thursday alongside his theory. “ROCKETMAN N BLACK AND BEAUTIFUL,” he wrote. “DO YALL THINK MY MUSIC DONT GET NOMINATED FOR AWARDS BECAUSE I KEEP IT REAL AND SPEAK MY MIND ON THINGS THAT I DONT AGREE WITH??? BECAUSE NOBODY MAKES MUSIC LIKE BOOSIE[.] DO WE NOT CHERISH BLACK WOMEN ANYMORE? LISTEN TO THE LYRICS ON ROCKETMAN.”

Boosie Badazz Thinks It’s Because He Speaks His Mind

Boosie’s social media antics and frequent chats with DJ Vlad have gotten him in some hot water in the past. This is particularly true when it comes to his kids. At the beginning of December, for example, his take on his daughter’s new relationship earned the personality quite a bit of backlash. “You can cheat on her, but don’t beat on her,” Boosie said of the 21-year-old. “Just don’t hit her n***a. Love her, I don’t give a f*ck what you do. Just don’t hit her.”

While some found his comments concerning, he was quick to clap back, urging critics to reflect on their own parents’ behavior before questioning his. “WHAT RAPPER [YOU] KNOW GOT MULTIPLE BABY MOMMAS N THEY KIDS ALL GREW UP LOVING EACH OTHER, TRAVELING WITH EACH OTHER. [WHO ELSE] HAS ALWAYS BEEN N THEY LIVES AS A DADDY N PROVIDED FOR THEM ALL,” he added. What do you think of Boosie Badazz’s theory on why he doesn’t get nominated for awards? Do you agree with him? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.
