Drake Announces PARTYNEXTDOOR Collab Album And Teases Fall Release

Drake is staying busy. It’s been days since Ebro and Peter Rosenberg teased the possibility of a new Drake album coming soon. The Hot 97 hosts claimed the 6 God was working with Conductor Williams in the studio. Based on his recent announcement, though, Drake has been doing a lot more than that. The rapper made a surprise appearance at a PARTYNEXTDOOR show on Friday, and proceeded to blow the minds of OVO fans. He confirmed that he has a joint album with PND in the works, and it will be dropping in the fall.

Drake came out and crushed the building with his song selections. He treated PARTYNEXTDOOR fans to live performances of “Sweeterman” and “Redemption.” He even played “Wah Gwan Delilah,” the bizarre Plain White T’s cover he dropped a few months back. Fans thought they were being treated to a surprise Drake and PND reunion, but Drake saved the best for last. Towards the end of his set, he told the crowd that him and PARTY have something in the works for the fall. “Once Summer over with,” he stated. “Do what you need to do, I know all you girls are outside and when it gets a little chilly… a PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake album will be right there for you…” The resulting screams from fans are deafening.

Drake Claims Him And PND Have Been Recording

Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR have been making great music together since 2013. That was the year the former signed the latter to OVO, and when the latter dropped his self-titled debut. PARTYNEXTDOOR is very much a secret weapon for Drake when it comes to the R&B side of his persona. The two have linked up on classics like “Come and See Me” (2016), “Since Way Back” (2017) and “LOYAL” (2019). PND also stole the show with a pair of standout appearances on Drake’s iconic If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (2015).

The concept of a Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR collab album makes perfect sense on paper. The two artists have complimentary sounds. Some would argue that PND has played a big role in shaping the 6 God’s sound. PARTYNEXTDOOR’s writing talents have been praised ad nauseam, but his production on Drake’s “Legend” suggests he can also excel with a harder, hip-hop sound. The possibilities are endless for what the finished product will sound like. We just hope it’s a smoother rollout than Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s VULTURES 2. The pairing of rapper and R&B singer has yielded mostly drama. They did drop a new single, though, which you can check out below.

ASAP Rocky Confirms “Don’t Be Dumb” Leaks Were Removed From Album

ASAP Rocky has been in the lab since 2018. The last time he had an album out, Drake has lot a rap battle to Pusha T. That’s an eternity in music terms. The rapper has had to contend with multiple song leaks as a result. Listeners have been sifting through demos and snippets for Don’t Be Dumb longer than they’ve known the title of Rocky’s album. Now that the release date is in sight, though, ASAP Rocky has made it clear that anything leaked prior to the Don’t Be Dumb release will not make the final tracklist.

Rocky addressed the leak problem during a recent appearance on New Music Daily with Zane Lowe. The rapper was promoting his new single, “HIGHJACK,” but the interview turned into a broader teaser for the accompanying album. Lowe asked whether about the album’s evolution, and ASAP Rocky drew a direct correlation between leaks and the need to record new material. “Most of the songs that I be performing and sh*t like that,” he noted. “Motherf*ckers leak it. And once it’s leaked, it’s just like, nah, it’s not on the project.” Lowe asserted that a song loses context once its released to the public, and the rapper agreed. He did, however, note that he has a soft spot for several of the songs that have leaked. “I might perform [them] here and there,” he conceded. “But if it’s leaked, it is what it is.”

ASAP Rocky Has Been Plagued By Leaks For Years

This isn’t the first time ASAP Rocky has blamed the album’s delay on leaks. In May, the Harlem rapper claimed that the amount of material circulating online has made it difficult for him to put together a solid body of work. “Dummies need to stop leaking,” he asserted. “Every time, it’s back to the drawing board.” In Rocky’s defense, there have been a lot of leaks. A quick glance at the Genius page for Don’t Be Dumb reveals over a dozen songs with stacked guest features. “GO!” featuring Playboi Carti was previewed by Rocky back in April 2022. It leaked in December. “Sights” was another Playboi Carti collaboration teased in September of that year. The leak of this track, however, led to a spat with Playboi Carti’s Opium crew.

Opiumbaby accused ASAP Rocky of leaking the song on Twitter. He called the rapper out for ruining what could have been a hit single. “F*ck Rocky, he played,” Opiumbaby wrote. “F*ck that ASAP sh*t. Allat leaking sh*t.” The affiliate then lamented the money that was spent on the song. “That sh*t cost,” he claimed. “That’s not even yo song. It’s our sh*t. Could’ve been on all platforms.” It’s ironic that ASAP Rocky be attacked for an issue he’s complained about for years, but that’s the internet in a nutshell. We are excited to see what ends up making the final Don’t Be Dumb tracklist.

Mustard Calls Drake The Malcolm X Of White People In Scathing Twitter Rant

Mustard doesn’t like Drake. That much we all knew. The producer blessed Kendrick Lamar with the beat for “Not Like Us,” the most iconic diss song since Nas’ “Ether.” Mustard was featured prominently at the “Pop Out” show on Juneteenth, and the “Not Like Us” music video. That being said, the producer went off on Drake in a way fans had never seen before. He targeted the Toronto rapper and DJ Akademiks in an August 2nd Twitter rant that few saw coming. He also dropped some unique insults in the process.

The producer had a bone to pick with DJ Akademiks hyping up Drake’s recent hits. The 6 God teamed up with producer Gordo for the songs “Sideways” and “Healing.” Gordo’s album, DIAMANTE, dropped the same day as Mustard’s FAITH OF A MUSTARD SEED, and the latter felt the decision was made on purpose to take away from his moment. Frustrated, Mustard proceeded to call Drizzy “Malcolm X” for white people. “Drake is the Malcolm X of white people,” he tweeted. “Akademiks, make sure you post Gordo’s first week since … [they dropped] the same day as me.”

Mustard Crashes Out While Talking Album Sales

Mustard then accused Drake of using bots to boost the streaming numbers of his Gordo songs. He even tied it back in to his insult about Malcolm X. “These Drake bots are the Nation of drizzlam,” the producer wrote. He also tagged Akademiks and Gordo to make sure they saw what he had to say. The tweets kept coming. “The bots tryna fade me,” Mustard tweeted. He then dug it in his heels and called Ak and the 6 God racists. “Album sales are a form of white supremacy,” he wrote. “You n**gas racist.” The sales that Mustard is referring to does, admittedly, favor Gordo. Gordo’s album sold 20K during its first week, and Mustard’s only pulled in 18K. Not a huge discrepancy, but enough for the L.A. producer to get heated.

Mustard’s frustrations may have something to do with the personal nature of his album. He was clear about the fact that FAITH OF A MUSTARD SEED was his most revealing release yet. He even decided to rap on the outro, as a means of putting more of himself in the music than ever. I started feeling like the records were becoming more soulful-leaning,” he told XXL. “It just kind of reminded me of like, me being a kid and different parts of Los Angeles.” We’re going to assume he didn’t like DIAMANTE based on his comments.

Travis Scott’s Manager Fires Back At Killer Mike Over Alleged Grammy Diss

Travis Scott and Killer Mike are keeping beef alive in 2024. Fans are waiting to see if Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar will resume, but there’s trouble brewing Huncho Jack and one half of Run the Jewels. And it’s for an odd reason. Mike won three awards at the recent Grammys. Travis Scott was competing in the same categories, and went home empty handed. Fans then overran the internet with claims that Killer Mike stole from their favorite rapper. It seemed like a done deal, until Mike released his new album. On said album, he threw some pretty blatant shots at “Sicko Mode” star.

The alleged diss came on the album’s closer, “STILL TALK’N THAT SH*T.” Killer Mike makes it clear that he didn’t steal anything, he merely cooked Travis Scott in terms of artistry. “You gon respect me like a motherf*ckin’ Grammy winner,” Mike spits. “Like I cooked your favorite rapper like a Granny dinner.” It doesn’t take a lot of analysis to get the message. Killer Mike obviously felt a way about the backlash to his crowning Grammy moment. The rapper’s justification, though, did not stop Travis Scott’s manager from getting into the mix. David Stromberg was not pleased with what Mike had to say, and mocked him back on Twitter.

Travis Scott’s Manager Mocked Killer Mike’s Career

Stromberg took the wind out of Killer Mike’s by making some heinous comparisons. He aligned the ATL rapper with other artists who won Grammy Awards that were deemed to be unworthy in retrospect. The kind of artists that Killer Mike would not be compared to under any other circumstances. “Macklemore and Cardi B tour selling out Chuck E Cheese karaoke nights near u,” he tweeted. Stromberg also made note of the fact that the artists in question have since fallen off. Macklemore infamously beat Kendrick Lamar for Best Rap Album in 2013, and he effectively doomed his career by apologizing. He also beat Kanye West’s Yeezus, which Scott co-produced. Cardi B, on the other hand, won Best Rap Album over Travis Scott in 2019.

Killer Mike’s bars likely struck a chord with Travis Scott and his management. Scott has been open about his desire to win a Grammy, and has been nominated ten times. “The award is just like at one point was held up to a higher stature, but I still believe it,” he said during an appearance on The Shop. It’s crazy… You gotta perform at 8:30. So imagine losing at 1:30 and having to sit there for seven hours. Like f*ck this sh*t.” Travis Scott has generally avoided rap beefs throughout his career. We’ll see if he takes the bait and decides to go at Mike.
