Lil Skies Takes A Step Back On “DEATH”

Lil Skies’ career got off to a hot start in the late 2010s with catchy and melodic trap bangers about love and relationships. Of course, his biggest hits were “Nowadays” and “Red Roses” with Landon Cube. That 2017 project Life of a Dark Rose, really put a lot of people on and it flashed a lot of potential. However, since his 2019 tape Shelby, things just have not been the same. “DEATH” by Lil Skies is another unfortunate case.

What makes this even more hard to digest is that this single will be landing on a new record soon. The rumor around town is that Out Your Body Music is supposed to hit streaming services before the end of March. Up until this point, the tracks that are teasing Lil Skies’ fourth tape have not been any more promising. We can appreciate him trying a new sound and cadence, but it just does not sound pleasing to our ears.

Listen To “DEATH” By Lil Skies

For example, his last outing, “THOUSANDS” sees the rapper and singer drowning in reverb and auto tune. While he has always been using it, the effects were more of an enhancement rather than a detriment. “DEATH” features a clunky chorus and video game-like beat that is super redundant and gets stale fast. It does not feel good saying these things about Skies’ music, so hopefully better things await when his LP drops.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “DEATH,” by Lil Skies? Is this one of his strongest tracks lately, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Does this get you pumped for his next project Out Your Body Music? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Sunshine State rapper Cochise has been at it for several years now, but he has not gotten enough love. He is colorful and zany style is what has fans coming back for more. He is not your most lyrical rapper, but he makes up for that in charisma and energy. Cochise is bringing plenty of that to the table on his brand-new single “GEEKED.”

This single comes just a couple of weeks after his late February release “YOSHIMITSU.” Furthermore, Cochise is also following up a big-time placement on the debut album, All is Yellow, from Cole Bennett’s Lyrical Lemonade. He teamed up with a bevy of other rappers such as Juicy J, Denzel Curry, and Lil B, as well as Teezo Touchdown. If you want to check it out the song is called “First Night.”

D4vd Is Questioning His Relationship Choices On “My House Is Not A Home”

Queens, New York singer d4vd is the definition of a multi-talent. At just 18 this kid has already grown immensely and his fanbase proves that. In just the three years that he has released music to streaming, d4vd is already up to over 25.1 million monthly listeners. A big reason why is because we mentioned how diverse he is. He blurs the lines between R&B and alternative, which has been a popular trend as of late. Today, d4vd is back doing that on his newest single “My House Is Not A Home.”

This song paints a picture of a complicated relationship. “But you never really cared about the way that everything turned out / You didn’t wanna fall in love, you’re looking out for yourself now / It’s starting to piss me off, I thought I had you figured out.” D4vd’s “My House Is Not A Home” is the third single to preview his upcoming record, Withered.

Hello, I’m at your door again
I just needed a friend, but now I share a bed with you
Am I dumb to succumb to the noise?

Tell my mother that I’m sorry, tell my father just the same
Tell my sister that her brother might as well have gone insane

Bktherula Goes To The Next Level On New Single & Music Video “THE WAY”: Stream

Bktherula is gearing up for her new album LVL5 P2 next week after its first installment last year, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most creative and vibrant albums of 2024 so far. Moreover, she already dropped the colorful banger “CRAYON” as a single, and now she’s back with perhaps the most overt and extreme display of her range yet. The Atlanta multi-hyphenate just dropped the single and music video “THE WAY,” which follows two women in love on a sunset-adorned coastline, dancing in their home, and eating ice cream by some palm trees. It’s a very sweet visual with a lot of creative animation towards the end and a simple, effective, and gorgeously shot and colored approach.

As for “THE WAY” itself, this is one of Bktherula’s most tender, acoustic, mellow, and structurally unique records in her entire discography. It might remind listeners of previous cuts like “SUMMER” or some material on the LOVE BLACK project, but with some added flair. For one, she mostly delivers refrains here about “the way” and “the light of the room,” with a brief verse longing to stay grounded to humanity and mortality with a special someone despite the sins of themselves, the world, and the forces like drugs that aim to replicate that feeling. Also, the “IT WASN’T ME” rapper’s vocal performance is very warm, and beautifully muted guitar strums, atmospheric synth pads, and what sounds like subtle conga percussion towards the end really makes this an excitingly lush taste of LVL5 P2.

We say “excitingly” because this is the same ferocious MC who brought us “CRAZY GIRL P2” with NBA YoungBoy. She’s always had incredible range, versatility, and talent, but with this new song in mind, we predict that this will be her most all-encompassing and definitive work yet when it comes to her many skills. If you haven’t heard Bktherula’s “THE WAY” yet, find it on your preferred streaming service. Peep the music video above and some notable lyrics below, and make sure to stick around for LVL5 P2, dropping on Friday, March 15. DDG Will Do Anything To Protect Halo On “Sh**t Up Your Block”

Over the past couple of months, Michigan multi-hyphenate DDG has put out two singles. Unfortunately, they have not been very memorable in our opinion. His voice seems to be the biggest issue we have with sound. For some reason, it is hard to tell when you hear a song from him. The beats have also been fairly run-of-the-mill. However, DDG is riding a bit of a different wave on “Sh**t Up Your Block.”

The reason we say that is because Cash Cobain produced this cut. If you are not familiar with his style, it is very woozy, low-key, and hazy. He also likes to rely more heavily on bass and less drums. That is the case with “Sh**t Up Your Block.”

Listen To “Sh**t Up Your Block” By DDG

Also drawing us into this record are DDG’s lyrics. It is clear that he is dedicating this song to his newborn son Halo. The writing is a little suspect, saying he will “spin,” even though he is “not affiliated with gangs.” Of course, the rapper and his boo, Halle Bailey, welcomed their child at the start of 2024. There was tons of speculation on whether or not she was pregnant. This song also comes at the perfect time, as Halo was born two months ago yesterday.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Sh**t Up Your Block,” by DDG? Is this one of his strongest tracks lately, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Do you think he has an album on the way? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Shoot up yo’ block, shoot up yo’ block, shoot up yo’ block (Ooh), shoot up yo’ block

Russ Helps Preview DJ Premier’s Upcoming Record With “Work This Out”

Russ and DJ Premier are legends in their own right. While people might be a bit more hesitant to give that title up to Russ, he has certainly worked his tail off, independently we might add. The New Jersey rapper has released so many singles and projects without too much extra help, making his resume all that more impressive. Today he is back with a new single with the legendary Houston, Texas producer.

Over the last couple of years this duo has put out a small handful of tracks together. That may be a little bit stunning to some, but they really do complement each other’s respective styles. Their works include 2020’s “Inside Job” and 2022’s “Free.” Russ and Premier are building out their synergy further with “Work This Out.”

It is a relationship cut that we have seen Russ do before, about wanting to fix things. This is an exciting time for Premier because this track is teasing his next album. There is not much information on it, but this could be the second taster from the record. We did get “In Moe (Speculation)” with Common in November, so we could have a compilation-like LP with guest rappers.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Work This Out,” by Russ and DJ Premier? Is the duo’s strongest track together so far, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Does this get you excited for the producer’s upcoming album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. NBA YoungBoy & Herm Bring A Catchy Melody To “My Bobo”

NBA YoungBoy sort of pulled a 180 on us a little bit with the release of his new album Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain. Usually when he drops a project it is super long. On average, you can expect at least 18-20 tracks. Sometimes, that number can hit 30 plus. However, YB decided to trim the runtime down with just 13 tracks. The last time he hit that number was in 2022 with the release of 3800 Degrees. Also surprising is that none of the songs that were dropped on YouTube made it to this project.

Apparently, NBA YoungBoy has another album coming (no surprise there). So, maybe those songs will a home in the near future. Currently, Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain is available on Spotify and Soundcloud, but not Apple Music or YouTube. Our condolences go out to those users. But, we are here to talk about “My Bobo,” a collaboration with Herm.

Listen To “My Bobo” By NBA YoungBoy & Herm

We feel it is one of the stronger cuts, thanks in part to Herm and YB’s chemistry. Also, this song has a solid melody, especially coming from the keys and the lead’s vocals. A “Bobo” is a person that loves materialism and affluence and it after hearing that definition, it makes the lyrics a little more confusing actually. It seems the track is more so about violence than wealth. Either way, it is one of the stronger bangers on the record.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “My Bobo,” by NBA YoungBoy and Herm? Is this one of his strongest tracks of from Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Who had the stronger performance and why? What other tracks are you gravitating toward? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Lil Nas X Previews New Track With NSFW Lyrics About High School, Internet Says It Has Had Enough

Lil Nas X is easily one of the most polarizing voices in music right now. Throughout his career, he has frequently used the devil as a means to provoke people. Overall, this has led to a contemporary version of the Satanic panic. Frightened moms love blaming Nas X for their shortcomings as parents. However, with the artist’s latest pivot to portraying himself as Jesus, he has received even more criticism. At this point, if Nas X wanted to fly under the radar, he would be better off ditching religious imagery altogether.

Moreover, there are some people out there who are just straight-up homophobic. Lil Nas X has never shied away from being open about his sexuality, and some people don’t like that. Those detractors have made their opinions very clear, but Nas X has continued to do his thing. In fact, he frequently brings up his sexuality in his songs. For instance, in his latest snippet for “Nasarati 2,” Nas X talks about how he knew he was gay in high school. This leads to some NSFW lyrics that have the internet talking.

In fact, based on the comments section over at The Neighborhood Talk, the feedback towards the bars has been negative. “Doing stuff for shock factor used to work so well for him, I don’t think people care anymore,” one person wrote. “Sir please understand that your 15 minutes are up! Go start a business, go to college or something because ain’t nobody effin with you anymore,” said another. However, at least one person offered a good-faith interpretation of the lyrics. “This lowkey hard, he just telling his story like the rest of us do,” they explained.

Kenny Mason Gears Up For New Album With Two Singles “Jumpin In” & “Us”

2023 was undoubtedly a busy year for Kenny Mason. The Atlanta-born performer unveiled his EP 6 back in March, kicking off the rollout with a vampire-inspired single, “Dracula.” From there, he unveiled various episodes of a documentary-style series called Pup Files on YouTube. The project followed him around as he toured, did interviews, hit the studio, and more.

Mason finished off the year with a 3-pack dubbed Highway 9, which included tracks “Off The Rip,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Facts.” Following the release, he unveiled an accompanying music video and extended version of “Facts.” Now, the hitmaker is preparing to drop yet another full-length project, 9.

Kenny Mason’s 9 Drops On March 14

The album is scheduled to arrive on March 14, 2024. To give fans a taste of what’s to come, the 29-year-old has shared two new singles, “Jumpin In” and “Us.” The first track arrives alongside a mellow accompanying visual, which sees Mason spit melancholy lyrics into a payphone. The laid-back track features bars about diving headfirst into one’s endeavors, grounded by a relaxed beat and soulful sample.

“Jumpin In” starkly contrasts with Mason’s other latest offering, “Us,” in which the musician makes full use of his vocal abilities. In “Us,” listeners hear Mason reflect on coming up in “a cold world,” and feeling as though he’s starting to become a part of it. So far, fans are loving his latest release, and can’t wait to hear more.

Bruiser Wolf Turns His On The Radar Freestyle Into New Single “Brick Up”

Danny Brown is one of the most unique rappers around so it’s no surprise that the crew he rolls with is full of just as interesting artists. His Bruiser Brigade group has a few underrated fan favorites, though few are as beloved as Bruiser Wolf. The rapper first debuted back in 2021 with his album Dope Game Stupid. The project emerged as a fan favorite quickly though it took Wolf a full three years to follow-it up. Last month, he released his highly anticipated second album My Story Got Stories. The project led off with the wild song “2 Bad” which features standout performances from Danny Brown and Zeelooperz.

Now, Wolf is following up his new album much quicker, though just with a new single. Earlier this week he unleased the new single “Brick Up.” The song is a bouncy display of his unique lyrical style and unmistakable vocal delivery. It’s actually adapted from his On The Radar Freestyle which dropped a few weeks ago. The video of his freestyle had already racked up more than 7k views before the song dropped as a single. Listen to “Brick Up” below.

Bruiser Wolf teamed up with Danny on the fittingly narrative song “Y.B.P.” A few weeks after the release of the album the song got its own music video. The visuals were just as unique as the song showing off a stop-motion bank heist complete with animated versions of Wolf and Danny. What do you think of Bruiser Wolf’s new song?
