Ovrkast. Links With Cardo For Explosive Trap Record “PAYMEAGRIP”

Ovrkast. is one of the talented names in hip-hop who is continuing to climb higher and higher. The Oakland, California is the definition of a multi-talent, as he can rap and produce at a high level. A lot of people began to hear about him late last year due to some beat credits on one of 2023’s biggest hip-hop records. That was Drake’s For All The Dogs, specifically on the Scary Hours Edition. He had done some incredible things for Drizzy on tracks like “The Shoe Fits”, as well as “Red Button”. While this is definitely his career-altering moment so far, he came up crafting beats for rappers like Earl Sweatshirt and MAVI. Additionally, he has an ever-evolving solo catalog that is still very small. He does have one album to his credit, Try Again (2020), as well as a deluxe of it that dropped in 2021. Now, it seems that Ovrkast. is getting more and more eager to drop, as he has just left off “PAYMEAGRIP”.

This is his second solo release of 2024, with the first dropping all the way back in January. It was a YouTube exclusive song called “January”, featuring Navy Blue. Additionally, Ovrkast. teamed up with MESSIAH! and his close friend MAVI, for the storytelling single, “silent heel”. “PAYMEAGRIP” is definitely a change of pace from both, as this more of pop/trap rap record. Fans can thank Cardo, aka Cardo Got Wingz, for that. The lauded producer lays down a crisp and snappy beat for Ovrkast. to rap over. You can check out the song for yourself below, and if you are inclined, leave your takes on it in the comments section.

Real Boston Richey Has Hefty Baggage On “Help Me”

When you think of the music that Real Boston Richey provides, your mind will probably go to violent trap bangers. It makes sense though. He is cut from the same cloth as Future, who he is in fact signed to. Because of this, the Freebandz MC hailing from Tallahassee, Florida has a slightly different take on rap sound from there. He brings the Atlanta approach to the Sunshine State for sure. However, things are little different for Real Boston Richey on “Help Me”. Sure, he is riding an 808 heavy instrumental. That is not the revelation here.

Instead, Richey is getting painfully personal. This thematic and tonal change might be why the song is popping off right now. Since its release, it has racked up over 729,000 views on YouTube, good for #18 on trending for music. Real Boston Richey comes across as troubled and helpless searching for answers to his problems. His delivery makes his bars extremely convincing. “Why I ain’t got no hit song yet? ‘Cause I guess it ain’t my time yet / Promise to stay down with this s*** until my eyes go blind, yeah“. If this is a shift in Richey’s career, we are here for it.

Smino Delivers Clever Bars Galore On Summer-Ready Jam “Polynesian”

Smino has one of the most unheralded pens in all of hip-hop right now. Whether you want comedy, braggadocious, or reflective bars, the St. Louis, Missouri native has got you covered. On top of that, he has a great ear for beats, as he is always finding something unique, but not too inaccessible. Perfect example, “Polynesian,” the latest single from Smino. This is the second release from the multi-talent this year and it comes after a three-and-a-half-month hiatus.

“Polynesian” follows up on “mister misfit but aint missed a fit in months”, a blistering banger with a nasty, soulful trap beat with an unrelenting number of flow switch ups. This latest track is a little more carefree, especially when it comes to the instrumental. It features some beautiful piano leads, shimmering synths, and an overall airy feel. Across its 3:00 runtime, Smino raps with so much personality per usual with so many one-liners that make you want to read the lyrics and break them down. A lot of fans were excited for this one, including some star musicians like Metro Boomin. The St. Louis showed loved to his hometown neighbor by responding to the rapper’s request to comment “🍿’s if you ready”. Hopefully, we get a collaboration from them soon.

Machine Gun Kelly Gets Reflective On Somber Single “BMXXing”

Machine Gun Kelly has been all over the map stylistically. He went from fast raps to pop rap to pop punk in the span of a single decade. He also battled Eminem, but we know how that went. It’s been interesting to see the artist straddle the line between his new and old style on his latest releases. He veered back in the hip-hop lane with the collab EP genre: sadboy, but “BMXXing” is a legitimate attempt to make a rap song that’s contemplative and laid back. It’s MGK’s version of a boom-bap track.

There are tinges of Machine Gun Kelly’s pop punk persona in the instrumental. There are guitars laced throughout the beat, and the backing vocals have a melodramatic feel to them. The drums and the lack of singing, however, firmly grounds “BMXXing” in the hip-hop genre. MGK talks about riding bikes as a kid, and struggling to reconcile his dreams with the personal struggles he faced on a daily basis. Things get serious quick, with references to the rapper’s mental health and his parents’ fractured marriage. It’s reminiscent of Lupe Fiaco’s “Kick, Push” in concept, even though the approach and sound couldn’t be further apart. All things considered, a pretty good effort from Machine Gun Kelly.

Ocean Wisdom And Method Man Get Militaristic On New Single “Step”

Ocean Wisdom and Method Man are worlds apart. The former is a British rapper who broke out in the 2010s thanks to his speedy flow. The latter is a Wu-Tang legend who’s been making hits since the early 1990s. They should sound out of sync on a hypothetical collab, and yet, they sound positively aligned on the new single “Step.” As a standout track on Ocean Wisdom’s new album, “Step” is a menacing banger that sees both rappers take out their competitors.

Ocean Wisdom kicks things off with a cool, ice-cold flow. He doesn’t get too speedy with the flow, which allows each of his lines hit harder. The beat sounds like something out of a horror flick, but “Step” really comes together when the militaristic “left, right, left, right” chant kicks in. The sampled chant serves as the chorus of the song, and it gets stuck in your head before Ocean is even done rapping. Method Man keeps the energy quietly menacing when he takes the mic. The Wu-Tang rapper have had been greeted by the sound of crickets at Summer Jam, but he proves that he’s still reliable as ever when it comes to dropping a stellar guest verse. Check “Step” out if you haven’t already.

Tommy Richman Teases New Song “Devil Is A Lie” And It Slaps

Tommy Richman has been making music for nearly a decade, but 2024 is his year. The singer broke out in a big way with the single “Million Dollar Baby.” Not only was a viral sensation on TikTok, but it crossed over and went number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Richman is now an R&B star. The pressure now, of course, is to prove that he’s not a one hit wonder. We’ve seen lots of “Million Dollar Baby” singers come and go. The next Richman single is going to be crucial, and it sounds like he’s got it under control.

Richman posted a teaser of his upcoming song, “Devil Is a Lie,” on TikTok on June 6. The brief clip sees him not only singing the song, but doing so on what appears to be a set for the music video. He sings in front of a car, and and posts up from a different angle where a camera can be seen moving past him. It’s led fans to believe that “Devil Is a Lie” is not only coming soon, but will have an official video attached as well. The song itself is ridiculously catchy. It captures the same bouncy, hooky energy of Richman’s first big smash, but with a throwback 2000’s feel. Many fans have rightfully pointed out that the singer seems to be channeling vintage Neptunes. The beat definitely sounds like something Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo would have cooked up for Nelly back in the day.

Tommy Richman Has Another Hit In The Works

This makes perfect sense, given Tommy Richman’s affiliation with another R&B star, Brent Fayiaz. He had a standout appearance on the Faiyaz mixtape Larger Than Life, which also revived the 2000s sound they both grew up idolizing. Richman even signed to Faiyaz’s creative agency, ISO Supremacy, furthering their like-mindedness. It’s also worth noting that Richman hails from Virginia, which is where artists like Faiyaz and the Neptunes originated. The singer spoke on the impact of VA’s musical history on his own working process during a 2023 interview with Miami New Times.

“There’s a lot of passion through the scene back home,” Richman explained. “And I feel like it’s because a lot of people don’t get a fair shake. It’s really hard to have your voice heard there. That’s probably why a lot of people from Virginia left, like Pharrell and Timbaland. It’s kind of key for an artist to leave their nest. That way, you can appreciate where you come from.” Richman wants honor the legacy of these artists, and “Devil Is a Lie” suggests he’s doing a great job.

G-Eazy Foreshadows That Various Sounds Are Coming To Upcoming Album With “Anxiety”

G-Eazy has never been an artist that pigeonholes himself into one lane. Throughout his career, we have seen him experiment the most on records like The Beautiful & Damned. From pop, pop rap, trap, R&B, alternative, to emo and pop punk, he has really done it all. It seems that smorgasbord of sounds is the direction that Gerald is going for once again. According to Genius, his next album will be titled Freak Show and will most likely be out on June 21. So far, the 35-year-old multi-talent has put out four promotional tracks. The first of the bunch was “Femme Fatale” with Coi Leray and Kaliii, an extremely raunchy cut about promiscuity and debauchery. Then, in May we would receive two more, “Lady Killers III”, and “Love You Forever”. The latter was a bit of a teaser to this latest G-Eazy cut, “Anxiety”.

On the aforementioned “Lost Forever” sees Young Gerald go singer/songwriter. It is a pretty touching moment lyrically, as sings about taking care of his mother. On “Anxiety”, G-Eazy’s singing on this single is the voice inside of his head, which mocks and antagonizes him for his poor life choices and even says that he has fallen off. His rap side combats those inner thoughts, one of which refers to the messy split from Halsey. Sonically, it is a mix of pop rap, pop rock/punk, so there is a lot going on in all areas. You can check out the track with the link below.

Tyga Makes Nods To Classics & Bangers Of Today With “Hello B*tch”

Tyga had a whirlwind of a week not too long ago. The California rapper and songwriter was learned to be a bystander in a heated brawl at the Cannes Film Festival, one that involved Travis Scott and Southside, as well as Alexander “A.E.” Edwards. Things escalated quickly after Scott grabbed the mic from “The After” party host Richie Akiva when him Tyga and A.E. were being shouted onstage together. A.E. tried to calm things down, but Scott went to go grab Southside and that is when it all went down. So, Tyga was never truly in the middle of the battle, but it was a big headline considering him and Scott used to date Kylie Jenner. Even though he was never fazed by any of the events that went down, Tyga is back with his first song since then with “Hello B*tch”.

There is a good chance that the nonchalant veteran is working toward a new album. Earlier this year in February, Tyga dropped another solo track, “Sensei”. For what it is worth by cover arts have a blue color scheme. Sometimes that is a small sign that an artist is starting some sort of rollout. Time will tell if that happens, but what is there to discuss about “Hello B*tch”? Well, to put it bluntly, it slaps. Tyga brings his usual cool demeanor to the track, and the beat is just as awesome. The piano keys that are interlaced into the instrumental may sound familiar. That is because he samples Lil Jon’s classic “Couldn’t Be A Better Playa”. However, it is also an interpolation of BIA’s “WHOLE LOTTA MONEY”. Tyga makes it a point to shout out the femcee in the track as well, showing his respect. Definitely give this one a spin.

Moneybagg Yo Drops Off Blistering “PLAY DA FOOL” One Week Ahead Of “SPEAK NOW”

Moneybagg Yo has fans on the edge of their seats. The Memphis, Tennessee spitter was on pace to drop his newest album SPEAK NOW on May 24. However, the 32-year-old was not quite ready to release it to the masses just yet. Subsequently, fans were left disappointed, but there is a good reason for it. The hitmaker revealed that a major feature could not be left behind and he wanted to make sure that record would make the cut. SPEAK NOW is just one week away from dropping (June 14), so the wait will hopefully be worth it in the end. But before that arrives, Moneybagg Yo has one more single to share from it called “PLAY DA FOOL”.

This is the third offering from the project, as it supersedes “Bussin” with Rob49, and “TRYNA MAKE SURE”, which has been popping off. Yo is synonymous with being cutthroat and aggressive and “PLAY DA FOOL” is no different. Subsequently, you get a lot of bars about street life, snitches, violence, and the like. Moneybagg locks in and finds a pocket as soon as the record starts, leading to a thoroughly entertaining 2:20.

BIA & JID Are Determined To Shine Even With The “LIGHTS OUT”

BIA has been in the headlines over the last few days due to her reignited beef with Cardi B. They have been at each other’s necks for a little bit now, but things have really escalated. The Bronx rapper instigated things with her fiery verse on the “Wanna Be (Remix)” last week and when you read into the bars, it almost seems like all of them were directed at her. That prompted the Massachusetts MC to clap back with “SUE MEEE?”, which was mocked by a few music insiders. Today, though, BIA is taking a break from the feud to collaborate with JID on “LIGHTS OUT”.

This is the first song her and the Atlanta native have worked on, and it lands on the Bad Boys: Ride Or Die Soundtrack. Even though songs made for films tend to get a bad rap for several reasons, this one goes over well. BIA hits you with lowkey flows and singing on the chorus, and JID delivers some clever bars, one of which makes a fun nod to his mega hit “Surround Sound”. This song is all about perseverance and working for your dreams, something that both artists are familiar with.
