That Mexican OT, Maxo Kream, & Lil’ Keke Are Battle-Tested On “War Wounds”

That Mexican OT has been having a banner year and it’s seemingly only getting better with the release of “War Wounds.” This is the latest track from the Texas rapper and songwriter, who blew up late last year thanks to the release of the viral “Johnny Dang.” Prior to “War Wounds,” which has guest verses from fellow Texans Maxo Kream and Lil’ Keke, OT dropped off a lowkey cut “1982” with Curren$y and LE$. Nothing has been officially announced yet, but it seems like he’s concocting another project of sorts. He’s already put out Texas Technician, his biggest tape of his burgeoning career.

The 2024 XXL Freshman raps with amazing proficiency, as he rolls his letters to create that now trademark tongue-twisting effect. On “War Wounds,” That Mexican OT is also proving to be a solid chorus writer. Out of all of his tracks, this may be in his top five. The transition from “mosquito” to “wings” is incredibly catchy. Lil’ Keke and Maxo Kream embody OT’s slipperiness on their verses as well, making for a cohesive listen. Additionally, the bass line is groovy and the twinkly keys add a nice eerie effect, as each MC raps about being built tough for all of the BS that comes their way. Quotable Lyrics:

I’m so cold I can shoot a mosquito
Wings through a lil peep hole, I’m feeling like a war hero
So many war wounds from these wars, they probably think that I’m emo
I stay one deep like I’m zero
My boots came straight from that GEO

Cordae Hypes Up “The Crossroads” With “Mad As F*ck”

Cordae has a lot of fans saying that he has an album of the year incoming with The Crossroads. So far, we have to sort of agree with the majority. Throughout the rollout for this project, the North Carolina bred MC has thoroughly impressed us with his lyrical displays and tremendous command of flow. With the exception of the more pop centric “Make Up Your Mind,” “Saturday Mornings” and “Summer Drop” feature some of his strongest performances of his career. So, with Cordae returning with another single, “Mad As F*ck,” after two standouts, how does he fare this week?

Overall, it’s a solid offering the now Maryland product. He does bring some nice flow switch-ups mid verses. The lyrics are pretty standard, both nothing that’s leaning towards offensively drab. It just doesn’t have that same punch as the Cole-produced “Summer Drop” nor the same presence as the Lil Wayne-assisted “Saturday Mornings.” Also keeping “Mad As F*ck” behind the eight ball (in our opinion) is the beat. Its predecessors were extremely jazzy and soulful, and they just had incredible aura. “Mad As F*ck” keeps it more traditional and trap focused. But again, it’s nothing bad, it just doesn’t have the same memorability factor. We are still thoroughly excited for The Crossroads, though, which is supposedly due November 15.

Benny The Butcher & 38 Spesh Drop Coke Bars Galore On “High Stakes”

Benny The Butcher and 38 Spesh are here with “High Stakes,” the third single from their forthcoming collab tape, STABBED & SHOT 2. This track features some classic coke bars from the frequent teammates, as they recount some of their most important deals. Based on the lyrics, they seemed to mold them into the rap stars we know them to be today. “Three bricks and my nephew four, they both a toddler age
I put a block of yay’ in a blender while he potty-train / I was good with one foot in like receivers in college games
,” The Butcher raps.

Prior to “High Stakes,” Benny and 38 Spesh dropped off a nice two-pack for fans. “Jesus Arms” and “Brick Specials” were some fine additions to their joint catalog, with Busta Rhymes joining them for the former. STABBED & SHOT 2 will arrive next Friday, October 18. When it does, it will officially be the sequel to the original that graced our ears back in 2018. Other guests for the 16-track set will include V Don, ElCamino, Ransom, OT The Real, Daringer, Dave East, and more. For now, though, be sure to give “High Stakes” a spin with the new YouTube music video link below.

EARTHGANG & T-Pain Pen A Catchy Relationship Cut With “Love You More”

On paper, Atlanta hip-hop duo EARTHGANG and T-Pain may not work out in some people’s eyes. However, if you really think about it, both acts are extremely versatile and can really fit anywhere you drop them in. Also, they have worked together now more than once, if you can believe that. Their first and most recent collaboration landed on Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot’s Mirrorland back in 2019. For those wanting to revisit that before checking out “Love You More,” it’s “Tequila.”

This track is actually leading things off for EARTHGANG, as it’s the first single from their next endeavor, PERFECT FANTASY. Unlike their last couple of releases (EPs), this will be a LP and fans aren’t going to have to wait too much longer for it. The Spillage Village affiliates announced the release date on their social media accounts at the top of October, saying, “PERFECT FANTASY ALBUM COMING 10/29 👾🌍.” The album also looks to have its features laid out too, with Little Dragon, Snoop Dogg, Cochise, and Eric Bellinger being a few of them. “Love You More” is a pretty straightforward cute and sometimes raunchy pop/trap rap cut. T-Pain, one of the best chorus writers of this generation, does it again here with an earworm of a melody. Then, EARTHGANG tie it all together with some speedy verses about getting down with their special women.

Deante’ Hitchcock Is Looking To “STEP WIT IT” On His New Single

Deante’ Hitchcock may not be a big voice in the ultra-competitive Atlanta rap scene, but he sure is a damn good one. He’s extremely talented and also loves to work in different settings. What we mean is that he’ll freestyle, drop a single, feature, or album, or perform with bands/other musical groups. He can really do it all and it’s kind of a shame that he doesn’t get as much attention as a Future or Young Thug. In addition to being extremely gifted, he’s also a great ambassador for the genre. He was one of the few MC’s to show Isaiah Rashad support back when some homosexual sex tapes leaked. “Yall acting like who cuz f*** make you nut. @isaiahrashad you still a solid n**** my boi,” he wrote. Overall, there’s not much to nitpick on him and we love listening to what he’s got to offer.

In this case, we are bumping this “brand-new” joint from Deante’ Hitchcock, “STEP WIT IT.” We say “brand-new” because he actually put this on YouTube about a month ago. However, just hours ago today, Deante’ officially released it on DSPs. This single comes during a pretty dry time for him, as this is just his second solo drop of 2024. Back in June, Hitchcock gave us some introspective vibes with “On The Edge.” He’s been on a few other tracks with more lowkey talent too, but other than that, he’s remained on the down low. But he’s looking to reintroduce himself a little on this more energetic and braggadocious cut, “STEP WIT IT.” His expressive and effortless flows, matched with the funky, bouncy, and soulful saxophone-backed beat are all a load of fun. Give it a listen with the link below.

Rising Chicago Drill Teen MC STAR BANDZ Recruits Veeze For Remix Of Hit “Yea Yea”

In one of the hottest corners of hip-hop, a new star is being born. 16-year-old Chicago drill femcee, STAR BANDZ, is making quite the name for herself in a short period. She launched her professional career in 2022 at 14(!) and since then, her small catalog has accumulated tens of millions of streams already. One of her tracks that is responsible for this immediate growth is her viral March single, “Yea Yea”. While it expectedly suffers from some mixing issues –especially on the vocals–, it’s an impressive display of energy and blistering flows. Her youthful confidence has grabbed the attention of multiple big players in the industry such as Kehlani, Chance the Rapper, G Herbo, and more.

STAR BANDZ can now add Detroit MC Veeze to that growing list of supporters because their remix of “Yea Yea” is here now. The song doesn’t lose any of her electrifying and animated verses. Instead, it just plops in a solid verse from the new kid on the block in the Midwest. This is arguably her biggest collaboration to date, unless you factor in her opening for Luh Tyler’s Mr. Skii tour. STAR BANDZ is like that and we are excited for her bright future in rap, as well as in the competitive Chicago scene.

BlueBucksClan Liken Themselves To NASCAR Star “Bubba Wallace” On Their New Single

BlueBucksClan are racing to the money and fame, just as fast as “Bubba Wallace” on their latest track. Yes, that’s right, the Los Angeles rap duo of DJ and Jeeezy have a new release for us to dive into, and it’s out on all platforms. These longtime friends and football teammates started to pursue their rap career in 2019. It’s turned out to be the right decision so far, as they have gone on to work with some of the biggest in the genre. In fact, just this past March, BlueBucks rapped over Hit-Boy beats for 15 tracks on Biggest Out The West. Their latest project also had features from the likes of Ty Dolla $ign, Kalan.FrFr, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz, and more. It really was a uniting of West Coast stars (for the most part).

Since that release, they have remained fairly active. They assisted another Cali up-and-comer in 310babii for his newest hit, “rock your hips”. BlueBucksClan also got the chance to perform on Mustard’s new album Faith Of A Mustard Seed. Furthermore, they have some features for the artists like Coach Joey, Allyn, and Rucci. With them being in pulled in so many different directions, it might be a little bit before they decide to drop another tape. But “Bubba Wallace” is a nice track to chew on while we wait for that announcement. BlueBucks have a unique identity thanks to their reserved flows and deliveries, and you are getting more of the same on “Bubba Wallace”. If cool were a group, it would be these two without a doubt. Give the new single a try with the YouTube link below.

41, Nemzzz, & Dee Billz Are Looking To Sweep Up The Competition On “Maintenance Man”

41, the Brooklyn drill trio consisting of Kyle Richh, Jenn Carter, and TaTa, is back with a new single called “Maintenance Man”. They have been dropping music as a group since the turn of the 2020’s decade, but they really saw their popularity rise about a year ago. We got our first taste of this three-headed monster thanks to one of the subgenre’s steadiest voices, Fivio Foreign. He brought them on for a high-octane banger called “Get Deady.” From there, we grew fond of their uber-aggressive flows and lyrics and a lot of people seem to be hopping on their wave as well.

They are currently pulling in about 4.1 million listeners monthly on Spotify, and they have tons of tracks with tens of millions of streams. While they have seen a lot of well-deserved attention, there are times where 41 can get one dimensional. It mostly has to do with their production selection. However, on “Maintenance Man”, which has Nemzzz and Dee Billz, takes a slightly different approach. Instead of intense 808s, Kyle Richh and Jenn Carter opt for a more synth-heavy beat. It adds an eerie vibe which matches up well with everyone’s violent lyrics. Richh’s chorus is also extremely catchy and his rough vocal delivery adds that extra intimidation factor that you want out of a drill song.

Igmar Thomas’ Revive Big Band Puts Their Own Spin On A Bebop Classic With “THELONIUS” Featuring Talib Kweli

For some, this may be an anticipated release, but for us, this has snuck up on us in a good way. The future record we are talking about is the debut record from Igmar Thomas’ Revive Big Band. But before we get into that, who are they, and who are they led by? According to the group’s website, Mr. Thomas is a maestro, trumpeter, and composer, and he put this collection of talent together in 2010. Their first ever show was that same year at the George Wein’s CareFusion Jazz Festival. Since then, they have gone on to perform at some of most recognized venues across the U.S. that are synonymous with the genre. There efforts have been celebrated and awarded a whole bunch too, as they have a total of 27 GRAMMY nominations, with the 13 of them being wins.

However, they have never decided to release an album until now. According to a press release, their first LP, Like A Tree It Grows, will land on DSPs on October 25. This weekend, Igmar Thomas has recruited longtime lyricist Talib Kweli for the tape’s second single called “THELONIUS”. What makes the Revive Big Band unique is that they put their own twist on jazz, hip-hop, and soul classics in addition to their own compositions. In this case, this is a modern reimagining of Thelonious Monk’s most celebrated bebop (subset of jazz) pieces, “Thelonious”. It’s also a tweak of Common and Slum Village’s collab “Thelonius”, which is on the former’s Like Water For Chocolate. It’s a triumphant and uplifting track thanks to Igmar’s incredible band and we think this is one of the best releases of the month so far.

TisaKorean Ups The Weirdness On “Strut Nation”

TisaKorean continues to prove time after time that he’s a one-of-one MC. Lots of rappers have animated and expressive flows. But the things that the Texas native pulls off is truly something that we guarantee has never touched your ears. Because of this, his song structures can come across as non-existent. He takes his voice to so many different places, it makes it hard to keep track if his on the chorus or a verse. Depending on who you ask, that could be a good or a bad thing. For us, we are sort of in the middle. That is especially true on this latest effort from TisaKorean, “sTrUt nAtIoN”. Based on how he’s delivering his lyrics, as well as the production, this feels like a direct follow-up to his last single, “bEat uP dAt bOy”.

There, TisaKorean sort of sounded like how the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street would if he were to become a rapper. However, we do appreciate the chaotic and aggressive production. It definitely embodies the title of the single, with the pulsing and dirty drums giving off the impression that someone is in fact getting beat down. On “sTrUt nAtIoN”, TisaKorean sounds like a mixture of that same puppet, with some hints of Kermit the Frog at various points throughout the two-minute track. As far as the production, it’s a little less all over the place and has an alien-like quality to it. Given the cohesion between these cuts, even down to the covers (a dog and a cat), there’s a good chance we are in the middle of a new project rollout. Check out “sTrUt nAtIoN” with the link below.
