EARTHGANG & Spillage Village Deliver 5-Song EP “ROBOPHOBIA”

Back in November 2023, experimentative rap duo EARTHGANG gave us a first look at the type of direction their next project would take. That path is one of funk, soul, R&B, with some of their hip-hop knowledge thrown in for good measure. On Instagram earlier this month they shared this message. “Robophobia is a sonic dive into a new terrain for @EarthGang as we explore new soundscapes and topics on imperfections, connections and projections within humanity’s relationship with each other and AI.” “BLACKLIGHT” was the introductory track for the now-released tape.

EARTHGANG’s ROBOPHOBIA is also a bit of sequel for the Atlanta natives. Back in September of last year, they worked their extended rap collective Spillage Village to bring a five-track EP, RIP Human Art. These two projects do share some commonalities both thematically and curation wise. As for the latter, this latest entry in the EARTHGANG vs The Algorithm series is also five tracks.

Listen To ROBOPHOBIA By EARTHGANG & Spillage Village

For the themes both are centering around technology, imperfections, and our relationship with AI. Which makes sense considering their outlook they mentioned earlier. All in all it is a very solid EP on both the writing and production fronts. It all sounds futuristic, vibey, and fun all at the same time.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, ROBOPHOBIA, by EARTHGANG and Spillage Village? Do you like this sonic direction for the duo, why or why not? EARTHGANG Ignores The Flaws On Their New “Blacklight” Single

Another Atlanta hip-hop duo who is doing things outside of the trap box is EARTHGANG. They are back to provide some elements of funk and old-school vibes on an all-new track, “Blacklight.” The duo includes their secondary group, Spillage Village in the credits as well. However, that is essentially to promote this as assumedly a lead single for an upcoming collaboration project with the rest of the artists.

This follows up on their five-track EP, RIP Human Art. EARTHGANG put that out not too long ago on September 22. That featured the singles, “Bobby Boucher,” which Adam Sandler gave kudos to, and “Die Today.” RIP Human Art is expected to be a part of a new series of projects.

Listen To “Blacklight” From EARTHGANG And Spillage Village

“Blacklight,” as we said earlier, only features vocal work from EARTHANG members, Doctur Dot and Johnny Venus. However, there is no rapping anywhere to be seen. Both artists are singing in a drawn-out and raspy-like manner. The beat is very slow-mo-esque with hints of funk thrown in. The track is about loving your signficant other even with all of their flaws.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new song from EARTHGANG and Spillage Village, “Blacklight?” Will this land on an upcoming project, or will it be a loosie? What part of the track is your favorite? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Quotable Lyrics:

I know, sometimes you hate yourself
I know, sometimes you need some help, but, it’s hard to find
Slowly find yourself
Confessin’ things while my fingers run through your hair
Uh, I ain’t gon’ diagnose you, I ain’t gon’ try to fix you
You could treat this present moment like a real-life Finsta

Earthgang’s ‘Blacklight’ Single Featuring Spillage Village Is A Radically Funky Soundtrack For Unconditional Acceptance

As their name suggests, the duo Earthgang is tapped into their worldly surroundings. This constant connective is often manifested in their releases, such as their introspective single “Die Today” and even on the pop-culture spectrum of “Bobby Boucher.” Their latest track, “Blacklight,” featuring Spillage Village, does the same.

Instead of focusing on themselves, the group uses the funky Nandish “Dish” Patel-produced record to create a radical soundtrack for unconditional acceptance of self.

“I know, sometimes you hate yourself / I know, sometimes you need some help, but, it’s hard to find / Slowly find yourself here in my bed / Confessin’ things while my fingers run through your hair / I ain’t gon’ diagnose you, I ain’t gon’ try to fix you / You could treat this present moment like a real-life Finsta / All the things you did that you could never tell your mom or sister / All that sh*t you pray about that weigh you down, yeah, I forgive you / What gets you wetter than acceptance? You ain’t gotta be no angel in my presence / We all got a past that points to where we headed / Ain’t it funny how your scars all point in my direction,” raps Johnny Venus.

Earthgang implores listeners to embrace themselves beyond their visible flawless but what only a blacklight can detect.

The track is the first offering from the group’s forthcoming project, Earthgang Vs. the Algorithm Vol. 2: ROBOPHOBIA. In a statement, Earthgang shared the inspiration behind the body of work. “There’s so much happening in the world. As we know, our inner state reflects our outer state. This record is for anyone having inner change, a metamorphosis, a period of feeling out of balance while you cocoon for your butterfly season,” read the note.

Benji. Comes Through With R&B Laced EP “Love Gun” With Spillage Village

The supergroup of Spillage Village may be the most underrated of all of the newer collections of talent. EarthGang, JID, 6LACK, and more headline this assembling of all-stars. However, there is one newer member of the team, Benji. You might want to start getting used to hearing this guy’s name because he possesses serious range. This is HNHH‘s first time covering this artist’s solo material, so let us give you a quick rundown of who Benji. is. According to his Spotify profile, he was born Ian Benjamin Welch.

Benji. hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with music playing a major role in his earlier years. Over time, he became a self-taught musician, producer, artist, and live performer as well. A lot of his sound draws inspiration from soul and hip-hop, psych-rock as well as funk. We briefly mentioned that this is the first time we have talked about his solo work. But, Benji. did land on the “Bobby Boucher” single with Spillage Village.

Earthgang Explore What Would Happen If They “Die Today” On New Single

Earthgang, the duo of Johnny Venus and Doctor Dot, are back with a new single. They’re continuing to follow up last year’s underrated gem GHETTO GODS, an album with a stacked feature list. Future, J. Cole, JID, Musiq Soulchild, Baby Tate, Lynae Vanee, CeeLo Green, Nick Cannon, and Ari Lennox all make appearances on the album. A few months after its release it got a deluxe version that added performances from Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Smino, and Blxckie. Now the duo are transitioning into a new era with their second single of 2023, “Die Today.”

The song is a bit more of a somber change of pace from the duo’s previous track. It sees the pair musing on what would happen if they died today, asking questions on the chorus like “would you kiss my face” or “give my cold heart away.” The more serious subject matter is nothing new for the pair who have often worn their emotions on their sleeves. The song also comes with an extended version that features a further instrumental outro heightening the emotion. Check out the song itself below.

Earthgang Get Personal Once Again

Earthgang’s previous new song “Bobby Boucher” was a team-up with fellow Spillage Village member Benji. The track paid tribute to Adam Sandler’s famous character of the same name in the film The Waterboy. Clearly, it was a fitting tribute, as Sandler himself gave his approval to the track’s accompanying music video.

Earthgang hasn’t been quiet this year. They’ve appeared as features on two other artists’ new songs. They teamed up with Forest Claudette back in March for a track called “Mess Around.” Later they joined Daya on a song by EDM outfit Snakehips called “Sometimes.” It was the second time they teamed up with Snakehips following their infectious 2021 link-up “Run It Up.” What do you think of Earthgang’s new song “Die Today”? Let us know in the comment section below.

EARTHGANG Connect With Benji. & Spillage Village For Funky “Bobby Boucher” Single

The only appearances we’ve heard from EARTHGANG so far in 2023 are on Forest Claudette’s “Mess Around,” and more recently, “Sometimes…” with Snakehips and Daya. This New Music Friday (July 7), the dynamic duo took the lead on their first single of the year, titled “Bobby Boucher.” It finds them linking up with Benji., as well as their Spillage Village collective for a funky new release that seemingly pays homage to The Waterboy

“Playin’ roulette like Bobby Boucher/ Wa-wa-water on a Tuesday for all this D’Ussé,” the featured rapper rhymes on his closing verse. As Consequence notes, Adam Sandler played the alliterate character in the 1998 comedy classic. In the accompanying visual we see more nods to The Waterboy along with lyrics from WowGr8, “Growing up, might need to be the villain,” which refers to Boucher’s infamous decision to switch sides.

EARTHGANG is Back with “Bobby Boucher”

The single is reportedly due to appear on EARTHGANG’s next EP, EARTHGANG vs. The Algorithm: RIP Human Art. That project is due to debut on July 28, and will mark the rap group’s follow-up to 2022’s GHETTO GODS. On that, they connected with legends like JID, J. Cole, Musiq Soulchild, CeeLo Green, Nick Cannon, and Ari Lennox. The deluxe cut came later in the year, including more collaborations with Smino, Wiz Khalifa, and Curren$y. It’s unclear who we’ll hear on the upcoming EP, but hip-hop heads and certainly hungry for whatever the Atlanta-based duo has to offer.

Check out the new “Bobby Boucher” visual from EARTHGANG above, and if you’re feeling it, add the song to your playlist on Spotify/Apple Music. Are you excited to see what else the duo has in store this year? Let us know in the comments, and check back later this weekend for more HNHH release recommendations.

Spillage Village’s ‘Baptized’ Remix Adds Fiery Verses From Deante’ Hitchcock, IDK, And Flatbush Zombies

Atlanta rap supergroup Spillage Village had one of the best albums of 2020 in Spilligion, and today, they took a huge step in extending its shelf life, releasing a remixed version of the album’s second single “Baptize.” The new version adds a who’s-who of the group members’ favorite collaborators, including Deante’ Hitchcock, who contributes the verse from his #NewAtlantaTuesdays freestyle over the beat, IDK, and Flatbush Zombies to turn the introspective track into a full-blown posse cut of cerebral rhymes and complex cadences. Group member Hollywood JB also makes an appearance to help keep the Spillage crew’s presence strong.

While the original version of the song focuses heavily on religious imagery as a lens through which to make sense of the global turmoil at the time of the album’s creation, the new version mostly does away with the framing devices, allowing the guest rappers to right down to the nitty-gritty. While Hitchcock spits socio-political commentary, IDK boasts of his off-season accomplishments and wonders if he should forego meetings with Netflix to work with HBO. Juice and Erick of Flatbush Zombies bat cleanup, preaching self-reliance and optimism to cope with the issues plaguing the world.

Deante Hitchcock Makes The Most Of A Hotel Room In His Freestyle Over Spillage Village’s ‘Baptize’

Atlanta’s Deante Hitchcock has been one of the most active hip-hop acts in 2021. The bulk of his work has came from his revived series New Atlanta Tuesdays, which sees him freestyling over new and old rap songs. He continued it today with a bars over Spillage Village’sBaptize.” Just like the other songs in the series, Deante shares the new freestyle with an accompanying video. In the latest, the rapper can be found in hotel where talks to himself in the mirror before sitting fully-clothed in a tub full of water, once again impressing with his lyrical skills.

The freestyle is the fifth track Deante has dropped in 2021 as part of the new series. He began with bars over Lil Wayne’s “Let The Beat Build” and continued with a wild take on SpotemGottem’s “Beat Box.” Then he took on Drake’s No. 1 song, “What Next,” and his most recent saw him rapping over Outkast’s classic track “Roses,” off their 2004 album Speakerboxx/The Love Below.

Along with the string of freestyles, Deante has also teased a new album to be released in the near future. Until then, you can revisit his debut album, Better, which he released in 2020 and updated this year with a live version that came with videos of the performances.

You can listen to the freestyle in the video above.
