Hitkidd & Lil Gotit Would Rather Be “Secluded” On New Single: Stream

Hitkidd recently boosted up his production repertoire again on his prolific streak, teaming up with Lil Gotit for this new single, “Secluded.” Moreover, it’s a woozy cut with bright keys, stark but hard-hitting trap percussion, and a lot of dreamy atmosphere to really put you in a trance. Lyrically, the Atlanta spitter is boasting about the usual flexes with some simple but sharp bars, particularly placing an emphasis on how they’re moving silently and “posted somewhere you can’t be at.” While the “How I’m Pose To Live” MC keeps more or less the same few flows throughout, his energetic vocal delivery does more than enough to keep his lyrics fresh and engaging.

Furthermore, this marks a bit of a departure from what the Memphis producer has been doing recently. He’s done a lot to put on for his city’s classic sounds, recently teaming up with a host of fiery femcees for the Renegade project. However, across Hitkidd’s other production credits, including Bladee and Lil Uzi Vert, there’s clearly a lot of versatility and fundamental skills within his skillset. It also helps that Lil Gotit knows how to approach a track like “Secluded” with a healthy balance of force and calm patience in his performance, highlighting the instrumental’s intoxicating qualities. It’s exactly what he crafted on previous singles like “Dr. Marten,” so while this isn’t an exciting reinvention, it at least keeps the quality standard up to snuff.

Kehlani Wants Love “After Hours” On New Single: Stream

Kehlani is lustfully looking for some love in the club even after the lights come on and the people leave on their new single “After Hours.” Right when the song kicks off, we know where this inspiration comes from: the song samples Nina Sky’s club-dominating 2004 smash hit “Move Ya Body.” However, this time around, they build it up with some tropical instrumentation, gorgeous harmonies, background vocals, and a much more tender approach than the original. Overall, it makes for a surprising but welcome reinterpretation that the Oakland native makes entirely their own. Still, if you haven’t heard “Move Ya Body” in a long time, this track will definitely remind you of just how undeniable, groovy, and infectious that opening percussion pattern is.

As such, “After Hours” ends up blending a couple of different elements together to make for a pretty ambiguous genre classification, which we mean in the best way possible. The sampled drums give it that hard hip-hop-adjacent grime that refuses to lock itself out of your body’s internal rhythm for hours after you listen. In addition, Kehlani’s vocal melodies and tone show their dexterity in the realm of R&B, whereas the instrumentation and flow mixed with the drums might remind listeners of dancehall styles. While this isn’t anything special lyrically, it definitely checks the catchy box and emotively showcases much more than lust through the production and songwriting. Maybe try playing this song when your night out is winding out, and you’ll see the results for yourself.

Kwazii Is “Leaving” Struggle Behind On New Single: Stream

Kwazii’s built his career so far on pretty familiar sounds, but what makes him a truly compelling artist today is his seamless blends of them. Moreover, on his new single “Leaving,” he effortlessly incorporates a few different styles in a narrative of fame, lust and his come-up. When the track’s drum pattern kicks off, and the Canadian artist’s vocals kick in, some listeners out there might expect a dancehall-adjacent melodic performance. But as soon as the harsh snares kick in, and his flows speed up into more elaborate bars, it becomes clear that this is a combination of classic hip-hop lyricism, contemporary beat-making, and external genre influences that create a moody sonic pallet.

Furthermore, it’s this fusion that will likely make “Leaving” one of the most surprising playlist adds for your week. Kwazii does a great job of flipping certain expectations here, as the vocal chops here are in pretty heavy contrast with the more industrially-toned drums that enter with the verse. There are also a couple of measured but almost unnoticeable flow switch-ups here that keep his vocal performance quite dynamic. As for the lyrical matter, this is no unexplored territory, but there’s a certain honesty to the bars here that can be hard to come across. Acknowledging mistakes and disinterest in commitment can often be framed against the other side of a fling, but here, accountability and hard work seem to be what drives the narrative forward.

Meanwhile, as Kwazii continues to make a name for himself in the game, we’re very excited to see what else he has to offer. Singles like these are already a solid indication of what’s to come, and now all that’s left is for him to capitalize on this potential. Courtney Bell & Conway The Machine Team Up For Slick Single “Word II Conway”

Courtney Bell is a rapper from Detroit, Michigan that a lot of people are sleeping on. He is considered a veteran in the game, dropping material to streaming since 2017, while also having two projects under his belt. Although it has been about three and a half years since his last release, Poverty Stricken, the blue-collar MC is still dropping some hot singles. For example, two of the tracks he has put out in the last year have been collaborations with the great Royce Da 5’9.” Now, Courtney Bell is working with Conway the Machine for “Word II Conway.”

This the first time these two Midwestern MCs have met up for song, but it is straight heat. What is impressive about “Word II Conway” is that Courtney Bell is essentially the main attraction here. No shade is being thrown at Conway, but he is merely an afterthought on this track. He handles the chorus, as well as the outro in which he shouts out Bell.

NxWorries Returns To Tease New Album With “86Sentra”

NxWorries, the soulful, California hip-hop duo of rapper and singer Anderson .Paak and producer Knxwledge, is back! Yes, after nearly a full year of no new material, they have finally got something new for the always eager fanbase. Ever since their excellent first effort in 2016 with Yes Lawd!, the hype surrounding them grew to epic proportions. However, outside of a remix version to their debut, the multi-talents have not been pressuring themselves to release new music. But we can at least say that NxWorries has a new single out now called “86Sentra.”

It is the shortest of the track that they have pushed out in the last year and a half. NxWorries’ first return after Yes Lawd! was their collaboration with R&B balladeer H.E.R., “Where I Go,” which dropped in 2022. Then, we would have to wait until May of 2023 to receive the gorgeous guitar-backed “Daydreaming.” Both cuts bring us to this short offering “86Sentra.”

The synths looming in the background add an ethereal quality to the cut. While this is a solid release, the even bigger news is that this track is officially a promotional single! NxWorries will be dropping a new album on June 7 called Why Lawd? according to Pitchfork.

Jay Exodus & Boldy James Tell Their “Stories & Lessons” On New Single: Stream

Buffalo, New York’s own Jay Exodus is making a big impact in the rap game this week with his new single “Stories & Lessons” featuring Boldy James. In it, he reflects on the conflict between maintaining a romantic relationship amid his life in the streets, whereas the “No Fighting” spitter matches this thematic energy by speaking on his bond with his mother. Overall, both verses are pretty melancholic in their lyrical focus and delivery, but it doesn’t take away from the vividness or compelling quality of their titular experiences. While it’s by no means un-treaded territory, they focus on the execution to paint meaningful pictures of their lives.

Furthermore, the beat provides a lush bed of sampled instrumentation for Jay Exodus and the Penalty Of Leadership MC to slide over engagingly. There are a lot of curious and wondrous woodwind elements popping up all throughout “Stories & Lessons,” plus some chimes, ethereal synth pads, and some vocal sampling toward the end. But these are simply additions to the instrumental’s root combination of crisp, warm percussion, watery electric guitar chords, and horn additions. Even though seeing the elements on paper may sound nondescript as far as rap beats go, it matches the tender, conflicted, and moody subject of the song. It’s definitely a case of two good elements coming together to make something greater out of it.

RiTchie Delivers Experimental “Looping” Single Ahead Of Debut LP

Former Injury Reserve now By Storm rapper RiTchie continues to embark on his solo career journey with “Looping.” This is now the third single for the Tempe, Arizona native’s debut album Triple Digits [112]. It slated for an April 5 release date, which is about three weeks away. Hip-hop fans were treated to RiTchie’s first-ever solo song of his career about one month ago. “RiTchie Valens” is one heck of a listening experience with auto-tuned background vocals that will transport you to another world. However, this type of unorthodox rapping is something that listeners have come to expect from him, as well as the Injury Reserve group. This was addressed by RiTchie on his Instagram, according to Stereogum.

He talked about how these expectations to deliver left field material were a little “intimidating and defeating” at times. However, RiTchie is continuing to grow more and more comfortable with each drop. “What started as a personal outlet to release these mental barriers, ended up with me having some fun music I felt comfortable, then confident, and now excited to put out there in the world while me and Parker continue to work on the first By Storm record.”

It is great to hear that from RiTchie because he will soon be taking Triple Digits [112] on a worldwide tour starting in early April. As we mentioned, “Looping” is the third taster from the album with “Dizzy” featuring Amine being the previous release. However, this latest offering may be the most out-there track of them all with a very loose structure that almost comes across as spoken word, rather than rapping. Be sure to check it out above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Looping,” by RiTchie? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Is this the strongest track so far to preview the debut? BLP KOSHER Is As Menacing As He Is Mischievous On New Single “Skidoo”: Stream

When it comes to fast and hard-hitting beats paired with funny and rewind-worthy bars, very few are doing it quite like BLP KOSHER right now. He’s made a great name for himself as a clever and creative lyricist who pairs his cheeky references and sense of humor with a gritty and grounded approach to trap music. The 23-year-old’s most recent effort, “Kold Shoulder” with Lil Crix, came out just last week, and he’s clearly not slowing down at all with his prolific schedule. Moreover, he’s back with “Skidoo,” another banger with a rapid percussion pattern, simple low piano melodies paired with high-note embellishments, and occasionally shifting flows to match his rhymes. It’s definitely a tried and true formula at this point, but this is such a comparatively young career that it’s still fresh and engaging.

Of course, if this is the first time you’ve heard of BLP KOSHER, you’ll quickly get an idea of why that formula got so popular and acclaimed. For example, the “Virgin Ears” rapper is very proud of his Jewish heritage, and his references to that identity make up some of the wittier and more triumphant lyrics here. Another element to his pen is the wordplay itself, which goes beyond the reference points to perk up the ear of any listener interested in language and puns. But it’s clear that the Florida native wants to take his sound to other worlds, too, as he collaborated with Yung Lean on the track “Violent Lullaby.”
