Jorja Smith’s “High” Sees Her Embark On A Self-Care Journey

There is no questioning the lyrical and vocal prowess of the one and only, Jorja Smith. The Walsall, West Midlands, England artist is also one of the most consistent when it comes to delivering standout performances. So, it is no surprise to us that Jorja Smith shines once again on “High”, her newest single. In terms of brand-new music, this is her first since her 2023 album, falling or flying. However, it technically follows up the 27-year-old’s Dirty Danger remix of “Backwards” back in May. Additionally, it supersedes a tremendous feature she laid down for Childish Gambino’s last LP under that moniker on “In The Night”. The track is becoming a standout on Bando Stone and The New World, as it now has over eight million streams.

For now, Jorja Smith’s “High” seems to just be a loosie. Obviously, though, we hope for bigger things down the line for this record. On it, the “Be Honest” vocal acrobat details her current mental state which is one of self-healing. In a statement, Jorja explains it “is a song I wrote about finding a friend within myself. Even through the lows, you have to find the highs”. The way she goes about telling this journey of self-love is through rekindling with a friend she has not talked to in some time. However, it is not necessarily the friend’s fault because she knows she needs to put the pieces back together on her own. Thankfully, Jorja sees that she can do this and she knows that she’s got a good circle around her if she needs any help in the future. It really is a beautiful and uplifting cut that is a great pick-me-up whenever you’re feeling down and out.

Muni Long Drops “Ruined Me” Shortly After Announcing New Album

Whether you don’t know or are unwilling to admit, Muni Long is pretty quietly becoming a force in today’s R&B landscape. The Vero Beach, Florida singer’s career premiered in 2020, but the last 10 months have been extremely vital to her virality. It seems like the song that really changed the trajectory for her is “Made For Me”. The irresistible chorus, paired with her soaring vocals, are both aspects of this single to behold. However, she is no one hit wonder by any stretch. “Hrs & Hrs”, as well as one of her most recent releases, “Make Me Forget” are doing some serious work, too. However, the success of these records is just the beginning of something much larger. Muni Long is back once more with a major announcement, along with this new single, “Ruined Me”.

Just a few days ago, the 35-year-old star shared a short teaser to this eventual release via social media. In the clip, you can see Muni at a photoshoot, possibly for the cover art of her forthcoming album, Revenge. She would reveal the title and its release date in the accompanying caption, “I’ll get my #REVENGE on 8.30”. A lot of fans are extremely amped for what’s to come, and so are we. “Ruined Me” is another stunning display of Muni’s vocal chops, as she painful details her mindset following a break-up she clearly did not foresee. While you wait for the LP, spin “Ruined Me” with the YouTube link below.

DDG Cops An Instrumental From Cash Cobain For “Copy My Drip”

DDG and Cash Cobain are two artists who are pretty hit and miss. For the Pontiac, Michigan rapper, if he has a winning chorus or flow, the track tends to be solid. For the New York-bred producer, if he presents an addicting melody or an interesting drum pattern, the beat can be so good that it carries a song. However, neither is the case on this latest single from DDG, “copy my drip”. What we get from both stars is a pretty run of the mill trap beat with an uninteresting guitar loop and some painfully boring and awkward bars.

F*** with me, I’ll f*** ’round and I’ll f*** your b**** / He ain’t do his research, he ain’t know I’m lit / Plain black T-shirt with no logo, he ain’t know this Rick / Huh, I’m like, “Where your ho go?” He ain’t know I hit“. The chorus is just one spot where DDG presents a one-note flow and delivery that makes the short track that much more of a tedious listen. Thankfully, the multi-hyphenate has put out some much more favorable tracks this year. If you need some recommendations, we encourage you to check out “she ain’t leaving” and “Shoot Up Your Block”, just to name a couple.

Central Cee Says “Gen Z Luv” Is The Wave On Newest Single

Central Cee put himself in an ugly love triangle as of late between rapper Ice Spice and his ex, Madeline Argy. However, it has since been dispelled that a relationship with the fellow musician is non-existent. His “Did It First” collaborator was asked about it in a Rolling Stone interview to which she replied, “We’ve been friends since ‘Munch’ came out, honestly… we’re just twins…”. While that is one less headache to worry about, it appears that he is still without a lover. Ultimately, it will be up to Argy if she wants to take him back after all of the confusion he involved her with. It might be why Central Cee is dropping “gen z luv” right now.

This is supposedly the second single for his rumored LP, CAN’T RUSH GREATNESS, with the first one being “BAND4BAND” with Lil Baby. On this record, Cee is wanting to tell his future how mommy and daddy met. It seems that he feels this generation’s way of finding that special someone is the best and only reliable method. “If it weren’t for the algorithm, I wouldn’t have found my woman“. All of these ideas are splayed out over a moody drill instrumental that sounds an interpolation of the sexy drill wave. Fans have been spinning it quite a bit, however we are pretty lukewarm on it. Still, check it out and see what you think.

Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, & Big Sean Preach The Gospel Of Hustle On DJ Premier’s “Ya Don’t Stop”

If you want to be able to succeed and live a fulfilling life, you are going to need a hardworking mindset. That is something that Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Big Sean and DJ Premier certainly have, as all four music titans land on one track called “Ya Don’t Stop”. This is the latter’s newest release, and it follows-up “Gonna Be Me (the friendship song)” with O.A.R. and Brady Watt most recently. However, it also comes after collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Nas, Snoop Dogg and Daz Dillinger, as well as Russ. With so many big-time voices and just three minutes of run time, how does it all come together?

In our opinion, DJ Premier has another successful offering here with “Ya Don’t Stop”. Leading up to it’s release, some fans were pointing out that Ross and Wayne were going to be on this record. This would not even be a subplot a few years ago. However, with Drake being is Rozay’s crosshairs and Weezy mostly being okay with The Boy (maybe?), things are different. Thankfully, the chemistry is solid all around. Big Sean ties everything up nicely with his catchy hook that centers the song’s focus on grinding to live lavishly. Wayne probably has the best performance of everyone, as he continues to shred his feature appearances lately.

NBA YoungBoy Mentally Unloads On “Tears Of War”

NBA YoungBoy had been on pace to have one of the most productive years of any rapper this year. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native was pumping out single after single on his YouTube page, with several of them landing on his first record of 2024. Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain might not be his strongest work, but him being so productive early on further proves that there are hardly any more hardworking than him. Unfortunately, his constant run-ins with the law continue to rear their ugly head. Back in April, while on a house arrest in Utah, he was arrested for orchestrating a fraudulent drug ring. However, this latest self-inflicted obstacle is not stopping his release pattern because NBA YoungBoy is back with “Tears Of War”.

This marks the 24-year-old’s first solo release in about four months, with “Catch Him” (YouTube exclusive) being that last track. However, in terms of overall songs, it’s the most recent one since his collaboration with Sean Kingston, “Why Oh Why”. Surprisingly, “Tears Of War” sees YB rap with great passion (unsurprisingly) over a No I.D. instrumental (Jay-Z, Pusha T, Drake). Additionally, the record is nearly six-minutes long, which on its face will make a lot of listeners groan. However, NBA really holds his own as he details his mental state, reservations he has with the things/people he loves (the streets, Yaya Mayweather), and much more. Fans are praising and we feel it’s well-deserved in this case.

Lil Yachty & Ian Drop Aptly Titled Track For The Critics, “Hate Me”

Two rappers that know how to get debates going are Lil Yachty and newcomer, ian. The Georgia native’s evolution over the last year and change has earned him a lot of respect. However, at various points in this fan proclaimed, “generational run”, Lil Boat has been accused of copying other rapper’s styles and being a culture vulture. The latter of those allegations comes in conjunction with ian, who has essentially become a viral overnight sensation. He markets himself as just your average white suburban kid who hides his rap persona underneath. That combined with his Yeat influences clear as day on Valedictorian have led a lot of listeners to discredit him immediately. All of these reasons are why Lil Yachty and ian’s collaboration, “Hate Me”, comes at the right time.

This track is specifically for the haters, and it drops about a month after all of the aforementioned critiques were thrust upon them. Yachty and ian were also seen in the studio around that period, so this joint effort has been in the works. For now, “Hate Me” is out on YouTube only, and hopefully it gets a wider release because these guys snapped. Yachty and ian (in particular) have a lot of great one liners and quotables that fans are already gravitating toward (see below). Smino & Cousin Stizz Answer The Call On “Nokia” Single

Smino may not be the biggest star in the rap game, but man is he not one of the most consistent going right now? The St. Louis, Missouri do-it-all artist never seems to truly disappoint whether it be in terms of singles or projects. We can certainly say that as of now as well, because everything he has put out in 2024 has been nothing short of sensational. In Febraury, Smino would come back strong with “mister misfit but ain’t missed a fit in months”. This track was released to essentially remind people that he’s got it like that. Then, just a few months later, he would give us “Polynesian”. A fun summer banger with loads of character and blissful production. Now, Smino is back just before the end of July with “Nokia”.

This single sees the “Wild Irish Roses” MC tack on a Cousin Stizz feature, making it his first collaboration of the year. On “Nokia”, these two give you some bars about linking up with a female. While we would say this isn’t Smino’s best work out of the three, it is certainly another respectable outing. One of most fun moments on the record is the inclusion of the original Nokia ringtone from back in the day at the beginning. Additionally, the chorus is clever and delivered in such a goofy and creative fashion. “I sent you this s*** from a Noki-a / This b**** eat me up like some gnocchi, uh / Yeah, I whip the Tesla, it ain’t got no key, bruh / I was f***in’ shawty on the lowski, hush“. At this point we just want the new Smino album.

Young Nudy Comes Back Swinging For The Fences On Metro Boomin-Produced “John Wayne”

It has been a little bit since fans have heard some new Young Nudy. In fact, the last time we got a solo release from the Atlanta, Georgia product was back in September 2023. His viral single “Peaches & Eggplants”, which would go on to land on Gumbo, got a remix with Latto and Sexyy Red. This slower production schedule comes as a bit of a surprise, especially given his track record earlier on in his career. But it seems that the “EA” lyricist is taking his time and it has been paying dividends. Prime examples of this include Young Nudy’s Childish Gambino collab on “Little Foot Big Foot” and now “John Wayne”.

The latter ends that previous dry spell, but it also includes production from Metro Boomin. This marks their first effort together since the duo and 21 Savage united for “Umbrella” off of HEROES & VILLAINS. Hearing them back on a track together is a real street based on their chemistry and “John Wayne” is certainly a fine addition to their collection. Back in January, Nudy previewed their song on IG Live and fans were extremely hyped. The devilish instrumental and the MC’s flows pretty much remain the same from the snippet, so listeners will be thrilled about that.

Metro reposted the teaser to his IG and was talking about how fans weren’t ready for their upcoming collab tape. While “John Wayne” does seem like it will be on a Nudy project in the future, we can only hope that their joint LP is on the horizon. Metro is a busy man right now though, as people are still waiting on a release date for the JID album as well. But “John Wayne” is more than good enough to hold us and fans over for the time being.

Larry June Oozes Confidence From Every Pore On Wavy “Like A Mack”

Larry June can never seem to slow down, but we aren’t complaining when we are getting songs like “Like a Mack”. Since the release of his November 10, 2023 album, The Night Shift, Uncle Larry is seemingly already getting back into album mode. In 2024, the San Francisco, California MC has put out three other singles. Those include “Imported Couches”, “Meet Me In Napa”, and “Dreams”. Larry isn’t one to experiment too often, but he continues to perfect and build upon his signature luxurious, hazy style. That is more of what Larry June is doing lately and on “Like a Mack”. Where this new single differs from its previous threesome is that is more of trap flavor to the instrumental.

Typically, the “Smoothies in 1991” songwriter opts for swanky beats in which the drums play more of a background role. However, “Like a Mack” features them more prominently. Still, though, Larry still brings the West Coast sound to this record which is aided by a nice guitar loop. As per usual, the prolific veteran is extremely self-absorbed, yet charismatic. The tempo of the instrumental is a little faster, but fans on YouTube have pointed out how it sounds good slowed down. We definitely agree with that take, adding more replay ability to an already catchy June tune. With four singles already out in seven months and still about four and a half to go, a new album is probably on the horizon. It is not confirmed, but that is the hope we have because June continues to produce at a high level.
