Cardi B Finally Returns With Highly-Anticipated “Like What (Freestyle)”

Back on February 20, on-again, off-again partner of Cardi B, Offset, was encouraging his boo to drop her next LP. “Stop being scary and drop the album s**t goes crazy.” While there was not any audio, he was giving his best stank-face for whatever he was teasing in the video. That anticipation deepened after her die-hard supporters were begging for her to return after a series of memes and a #WhereIsCardi poster.

Well, we can finally say that Cardi B is at least slowly rebuilding as she finally dropped “Like What (Freestyle).” This marks The Bronx rapper’s first single since last September with the highly-maligned “Bongos” with Megan Thee Stallion.” Additionally, an album rollout could be underway as well. If you watch to the end of the music video, directed by Offset, you will see a message that says, “Just beginning… stay tuned.”

Listen To “Like What (Freestyle)” By Cardi B

A fan account shared a snippet of the “Like What (Freestyle)” on Instagram about four days ago. Now, the full version is here. The beat flips Missy Elliott’s classic hit “She’s a B****.” Lyrically, Cardi is delivering some solid rhymes and lines, even presumably sending some strays toward JT of the City Girls. Be sure to check out the return of Cardi B above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Like What (Freestyle),” by Cardi B? For her fans, is this track a satisfying return for her, why or why not? Steelo Brim & VIC MENSA Pair Up Again For “N**** Dreams”

The Chicago streets are on fire! No, thankfully not a real one. But it is because VIC MENSA and Steelo Brim are back together for a new single. These two underrated lyricists are here with “N**** Dreams” a motivational and hype track about going after your goals and becoming proud of who you are. For Steelo this is his first piece of solo material since last July’s “Margiela.”

Hopefully, this is also the start of a new album rollout for him. It has been about two years since the release of Steelo’s debut Eldorado Excursions. That project featured Buddy, Arin Ray, VIC, Dej Loaf, Leon Thomas, PRICE, Chuck English, and more. As we said, these two are no strangers to each other and they both speak very highly of each other.

In the press release, VIC MENSA could not help but give Steelo Brim his flowers. “Beyond being a friend, Steelo has an amazing ear for production, a unique perspective and has been a covert architect of culture for over a decade now. One of the first young art collectors I knew, [Steelo] brings that taste level to his creativity and that’s something I always connect with.” This was a release that the lead artist “felt appropriate for Black History Month.” Brim says, “The title is also ‘sarcastic’ in the sense of we can wish and dream of more, and yet, we are still just ‘N****s,’ lol.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “N**** Dreams,” by Steelo Brim and VIC MENSA? Is this their best song together, why or why not? Could you see them making a collaborative album together? Who had the stronger performance and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Midwxst Is Moving On From A Toxic Lover On “Mistakes” With 9lives

Midwxst is a rapper that sort of flew under the radar for us, but over time, the South Carolinian really blew us way late last year. He specializes in what is referred to as hyperpop which is a combination of genres that he used to near perfection on his debut album. E3 had plenty of impressive cuts like “pretty girls,” “lost,” “heartache blues,” “hate how much,” and more. Now, midwxst is back to revive that momentum with “mistakes.”

This is his first true solo release since the “warning” single for the aforementioned debut. For “mistakes,” midwxst is teaming up with a producer he some rapport with, 9lives. The beat on this one has that familiar sound from the debut and it would definitely fit snuggly into that tracklist. It has a bit of a lo-fi start before the melodic drums in. This is a sound that midwxst can really making a living off of because he sounds great it on it once again.

He is rapping about an ex-girlfriend that was really dragging him down. She even went as far as to say that he would never get better. But, midwxst finds some resolve and breaks things off. In doing so, he finds that he can get through any issue he comes face to face with. It is a nice low-key song to play when you are feeling down, building yourself back up, or when you are headed out on a night drive.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “mistakes,” by midwxst and 9lives? Is this one of his best breakup/love songs ever, why or why not? Is E3 still in your rotation and if so what songs? Are you excited to see what direction he goes in going forward? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. DDG Is “Going To The Top” On His Latest Single

DDG for some reason just does not hit the sweet spot for us when it comes to crafting memorable tracks. The multi-hyphenate from Michigan does not have to be a wordsmith by any means. Creating easy-going tracks that are catchy is not a bad thing to make a career off of. However, DDG just does not have that special sauce even on his latest single “Going To The Top.”

This follows up his “She Don’t Play” offering from late December. It was more a of club/party track about a woman who could get whatever she wanted. There are a lot of artists who make similar music to DDG. But, what helps them stand out is the way they deliver their lyrics and the production choices they make.

For the past YouTuber, it seems that he selects basic flows and instrumentals that you will hear all over the current hip-hop landscape. “Going To The Top” is about grinding and flexing how far you have come and how no one is better. It is a common rap topic and has given us plenty of memorable tracks. Yet again though, DDG does nothing to show us why it should be worth going back to this. Still, if you want to support, click the link to check out the song above.

MIKE & Tony Seltzer Provide Their Take On Early 2000’s “R&B”

MIKE is someone we always love discussing here on HNHH. The New York rapper and singer just knows how to do things differently, without turning people away. At just the ripe age of 25, MIKE has delivered some fantastic projects since he got his start in 2017. 2023 was arguably his strongest year yet. The underground scene was more dominant over the mainstream in terms of quality releases. MIKE was a key part in two of the best albums from that year. Himself, The Alchemist, and Wiki, all came together for Faith Is A Rock.

Then, just about a month later he returned for his solo effort Burning Desire. That had features from Larry June, Earl Sweatshirt, and more. Since that point though, MIKE has remained dormant. That has recently just changed as he has just dropped his first piece of music in 2024. “R&B” is a collaborative single with producer Tony Seltzer.

Seltzer was worked with a host of rappers such as Ski Mask the Slump God, Rich The Kid, Jay Critch, and more. MIKE is very familiar with him, as they have been in the studio as well. According to Stereogum, they first collaborated their talents on MIKE’s debut record May God Bless Your Hustle. “R&B” has a soulful feel with the music video being a quite funny callback to early 2000s visuals. The fading to black briefly in between shots, as well as the grainy quality all add up.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “R&B,” by MIKE and Tony Seltzer? Should he and Tony drop a collaboration album this year, why or why not? Does this sound work for MIKE and should he do a full project with it? Is this one of his best songs in the past year, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to tell us in the comments below. Additionally, keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding MIKE and Tony Seltzer. Brent Faiyaz’s Music Video Teaser Featuring Lupita Nyong’o Is Filled With Sexual Tension, Leaving Fans Stunned

Brent Faiyaz likes to play different roles in his music. One of them is a troubled lover which is what he portrays himself to be on “WY@.” This was one of two singles for his 2023 album Larger Than Life. Brent grabbed features such as A$AP Rocky and ANT, Babyface Ray, Coco Jones, Missy Elliot, among others. The lead single was the track “Moment Of Your Life” featuring Coco. Since its original October 26 release, his fourth studio LP is the second to receive the CHOPPED NOT SLOPPED treatment.

In addition, two songs have gotten full-fleshed music videos. “WY@” will be joining the fray tomorrow on Valentine’s Day. While fans are undoubtedly excited, it is receiving some surprised reactions as well. The reason for that is because Lupita Nyong’o is going to have a starring role in it. According to TMZ Hip Hop, the Maryland R&B star dropped a trailer for the visuals, and they are steamy.

It makes sense based on the timing, but fans are a little concerned about how much sexual tension is between Brent and Lupita. Right before the teaser ends, the two begin to lock lips. That sent fans into a frenzy. One person writes, “Lupita please don’t play w me rn.” Another goes, “Brent baby I’m sick rn leave that girl alone.” The reason for all of these reactions is because the Kenyan actress is currently dating Joshua Jackson, a fellow actor from Canada. They made things official in December. It appears it is all in good fun, but watch it Brent, Lupita’s fans are watching.

What are your thoughts on Brent Faiyaz’s music video teaser for “WY@” with Lupita Nyong’o? Do you think that she is secretly getting entangled with the R&B singer? Or is it just all for the video? Is this your favorite song from Larger Than Life? Do you have this album still in rotation and where do you rank among the rest of his discography? Just the other day, Kanye West came out and revealed that three volumes of Vultures would be released. Overall, these projects will be released on February 9th, March 8th, and April 5th, respectively. For now, we don’t know too much about the project. NBA YoungBoy Gets Fiery Again On New Single “We shot him in his head huh”: Stream

NBA YoungBoy is back with a new YouTube-only single and music video, creatively and exhaustingly titled “We shot him in his head huh.” Moreover, it’s structurally the same thing on paper: hard beat, frantic and jumbled flows, aggressive delivery, and visuals from his Utah estate roaming the house and enjoying his material possessions. However, on this track in particular, the 24-year-old also references his legal trouble and how authorities are on him. Paired with the rapid kicks, unstoppable snares, and bouncy swing, it gives this cut a particularly murderous but still playful tone. On that last note, that’s owed mostly to the simple piano melody that the instrumental builds around.

Furthermore, this track follows another recent NBA YoungBoy single that actually hinted at a new and interesting direction. By pairing up with acclaimed producer BNYX on “BNYX Da Reaper,” he taps into more electronic and contemporary soundscapes rather than his usual, straightforward trap fare. Sure, the Baton Rouge native doesn’t switch things up much vocally, but having this different instrumentation works wonder to re-contextualize him. Hopefully, along with his traditional releases like “We shot him in his head huh,” he can continue to evolve his catalog in deeper and more unique ways. After all, YB is still active and successful, and we can only imagine how much more resonant he’d become with listeners.

Of course, not everything is peaches and cream in his life, as recently surfaced bodycam footage shows him and Yaya Mayweather after a stabbing. As such, many want the I Rest My Case artist to keep striving for a balance that turns his environments and actions into more fruitful and less dangerous conditions. With a 6ix9ine collab seemingly on the way, perhaps it will be tough for listeners to accommodate, but with die-hard fans like his, this train might never stop. Check out “We shot him in his head huh” above and find some standout bars down below. Also, as always, keep checking in with HNHH for more on NBA YoungBoy and more great music drops around the clock.

Fabolous Shades Mystery Opp On IG Before Dropping “Calling You Up” Freestyle

Fabolous is feeling fiery these days for multiple reasons, and an Instagram Story post from Friday (February 2) is the main reason why, fans think. Moreover, he addressed a mystery enemy with some short but scathing statements: “I saved your reputation by only telling my side of the story. Stay humble.” Of course, the New York MC could be talking about anyone here, and fans also have a new piece of “evidence” to unpack for more answers. He released a music video for the “Calling You Up Freestyle” on Saturday (February 3), another reimagining of a recent Drake beat. He flows really well on it, has some sharp and boastful bars, and even references Drizzy’s Her Loss partner 21 S*vage, echoing the Toronto superstar’s own line about the Slaughter Gang spitter on that instrumental.

Alas, there’s not much to gain here when it comes to this unknown feud, as there are little to no bars that seem particularly pointed. That’s not to say it’s not good, as the performance and charisma here is still solid. Furthermore, that’s a talent that Fabolous has always championed and represented, but something that he’s reminding younger generations of a lot these days. For example, another of his recent freestyles is the cut “Snooze,” and it lives up to his Freestyle Friday series’ high bar of quality control.

Fabolous’ Cryptic IG Shots

However, there is one freestyle that opened up some family wounds, namely the installment “Selfish” which seems to address his estranged relationship with his stepdaughter, Taina Williams. “Selfishness will make someone comment under your pic,” Fabolous raps on the song. “When he took care of you and your mama since you were six/ Who selfish?/ Maybe we all are.” Many felt that this was a direct shot at Williams, who blasted him as an absent father in a comment under his 2022 post congratulating his then-two-year-old daughter Journey.

“This post is hilarious,” Taina expressed along with crying-laughing emojis. “‘Might not know when you going thru it, but you’ll get it at the end’ Is Translation for = I haven’t taken care of my daughter in almost a year & don’t even ask about her well being because IDC. [And] Im bitter & I’m only a father to my two beautiful sons who I can manipulate. Stop playing with the internet.” For more news and the latest updates on Fabolous, stay posted on HNHH.
