Wu-Tang Clan Releases Mythical Album “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin,” But There’s A Catch

The Wu-Tang Clan is arguably the most influential and magnanimous hip-hop group of all time that ranks almost as high on all-time music group lists. As such, it’s no surprise that they can get away with some truly historic, controversial, and above all unique ideas. Moreover, they just “released” their album Once Upon A Time In Shaolin via the record’s current owner Pleasr, who also announced that the album would have various listening parties around the world. However, if you are unfamiliar with this mythical album from the Wu, then you have some catching up to do before considering a purchase.

Furthermore, this is a pretty long and complicated story, but basically, the Wu-Tang Clan revealed a single physical copy of the album Once Upon A Time In Shaolin with no digital equivalents in 2015, meant to be in the hands of a single buyer. Former pharma tycoon and societal villain Martin Shkreli bought it for $2 million, but he wasn’t allowed to reproduce the album, share it, or profit from it until the year 2103, per the stipulations in their contract. After Shkreli’s arrest for security fraud, the project fell into the U.S. government’s hands as the result of an asset seizure.

Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time In Shaolin

Then, the NFT company PleasrDAO bought the album in 2021 for about $4 million, and didn’t do much with it until these new agreements to host limited listening parties of partial parts of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. In addition, new negotiations with the Wu-Tang Clan also resulted in the album’s partial release as an NFT, with each $1 USD purchase yielding a five-minute snippet from the LP. Each individual purchase apparently “speeds up” the wide commercial release date of 2103 for the album. As you might imagine, it’ll take a lot of purchases to “unlock” the mythical project.

But if you want to hear a bit of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin for a dollar, check out the tweet above. There’s also more lore to learn about the album, such as PleasrDAO’s current legal battle against Martin Shkreli for playing unauthorized copies of the project. Overall, it seems like a massive but respectably honor-bound hassle to go through for a record. But it’s the Wu-Tang Clan; haven’t they earned that legend status?

Megan Thee Stallion Album Art Confusion Continues As New Cover Appears On Streaming Services

Megan Thee Stallion has been having a solid start to the year so far. Over the past seven months, she has dropped off three singles in “COBRA,” “HISS,” and “BOA.” Clearly, you can spot the trend here. Moreover, it was revealed recently that the artist would be dropping off an album called MEGAN on June 28th. Overall, the project is one of the most hyped of the entire year, especially since the artist is currently on tour right now. Fans are excited for this body of work, and there are some lofty expectations.

However, there has been one point of contention as it pertains to this new album. Overall, there are a lot of fans who have taken issue with the album’s cover art. The first cover that was shown off was a bit too avant-garde for people’s tastes. As for the second cover, it was much better, but some still couldn’t get over the “M” pasted in the background. Well, according to Pop Base, it would appear as though a third cover has appeared online.

Lucki is an artist who has an impressive discography. Overall, he has been a darling of the underground and whenever he pops out at a festival, the fans bring the energy. MoneyBagg Yo Refines His Formula On New Album “SPEAK NOW”

MoneyBagg Yo knows what fans want from him. The Memphis rapper makes hard, trunk-rattling trap music. It’s what led to him breaking out in the 2010s, and what has kept him thriving in the 2020s. He’s scored top 20 hits on Billboard, scored a Grammy nomination, and worked with some of the biggest rap artists in the world. If it ain’t broke, there’s nothing to fix. That’s the approach MoneyBagg Yo takes on his new album, SPEAK NOW. And it works. This is not MoneyBagg Yo’s country pivot, despite sharing a title with a Taylor Swift album.

Fans might also be thrown off by the fact that the rapper has a duet with country superstar Morgan Wallen on the song “WHISKEY WHISKEY.” It’s an odd combination on paper, but it actually works pretty well, with Wallen blending pretty comfortably into MoneyBagg’s trap aesthetic. The other features on the album are veterans when it comes to riding hard-hitting beats, and they deliver accordingly. Chris Brown shines on the moody slow jam “DRUNK OFF U,” and Lil Durk proves that him and MoneyBagg still have great chemistry on “GANGSTAS RELATE.” That being said, SPEAK NOW is at its best when MoneyBagg Yo goes solo. “PLAY DA FOOL” and “SPEAK” are testaments to the repetitive, hypnotic pocket the rapper is able to tap into. Fans are going to like this one.

NxWorries Prove Lightning Strikes Twice With “Why Lawd?” Album

NxWorries was one of the rare musical combinations that lived up to its potential. Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge teaming up for a genre-spanning album was such a cool idea that it was impressive that the two of them managed to pull it off. That was way back in 2016, though. Paak and Knxwledge have made a lot of music since, so there was uncertainty as to whether they could do it again. Well, they did just that. The second NxWorries album, Why Lawd?, is weirder and even better than its predecessor.

Part of the reason this sophomore album has superseded Yes Lawd is the chemistry between Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge. It’s obvious they’re more comfortable working together, and their chemistry leaps out of the speakers on songs like “Daydreaming” and “HereIAm.” The duo also manage to weave in more guest features than last time. Dave Chappelle sets a memorable tone in the opener, and the rest follow suit. Thundercat sounds lovelorn and funky as ever on the standout “KeepHer,” while H.E.R. and .Paak excel on the duet “Where I Go.” Earl Sweatshirt is in his element over the chunky soul instrumental on “WalkOnBy,” while .Paak protege Rae Khalil steals the show on two separate tracks. Why Lawd? is everything a sequel should be but rarely is: bigger, more ambitious, and actually better.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Don Toliver Drops His Best Album Yet With “HARDSTONE PSYCHO”

Don Toliver has an instantly recognizable voice. Few artists make their presence on a track known as a quickly as the Houston rapper. It’s the reason Travis Scott signed him to Cactus Jack Records, and why he’s amassed a huge following over the last five years. HARDSTONE PSYCHO is his fourth album, but it truly feels like a coming out party. The album encapsulates everything Don Toliver does well on record, while introducing new and exciting musical ideas. Simply put, it’s his best release to date.

The writing was on the wall from the singles. “BANDIT” was a stunning teaser single built on a classic rock sample and a stuttering beat. “ATTITUDE” was even better, as Don Toliver teamed up with Cash Cobain to remake a beloved Pharrell track. The rest of HARDSTONE PSYCHO maintains this exciting, musically bold direction. “BACKSTREETS” is a memorable duet with another eccentric vocalist, Teezo Touchdown. Travis Scott shows up a couple of times to wave the Cactus Jack flag, but his presence is most notable on the nocturnal “INSIDE.” All of the features do their thing, but HARDSTONE PSYCHO is a triumph because Toliver carries the solo tracks with newfound confidence. He’s never sounded better on solo cuts like “LAST LAUGH” and “TORE UP.” He’s the real deal, in case that was ever in doubt.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Don Toliver Unveils The Feature-Packed Tracklist For His New Album

Don Toliver’s new album is just a few days away and his follow-up to 2023’s Love Sick is arriving on the back of quite a bit of hype. The album had three singles dropped in the lead-up to its release starting with the fan-favorite Tame Impala-sampling “Bandit.” That was succeeded by “Deep In The Water” and then just a few weeks ago by the Charlie Wilson and Cash Cobain assisted “Attitude.” Now with the release of the album less than 48 hours away he’s unveiled the entire 16-song tracklist for the new album.

HARDSTONE PSYCHO splits its three singles up throughout the tracklist. But what fans are much more focused on is the features. Charlie Wilson and Cash Cobain are just two of the multiple big names set to appear on the record. Kodak Black, Future, and Teezo Touchdown will also appear on the record. Travis Scott is contributing to two different songs on the record in a year where he’s already been busy with features on 21 Savage and Future’s new albums. Check out the full trasklist announcement below.

Common And Pete Rock Announce Release Date For Collab Album

Common and Pete Rock have made magic together. They’re two of the most venerated artists in hip-hop, with classic albums and songs dating back to the 1990s. They have nothing left to prove, which is what makes their decision to collab on an entire project so exciting. They are doing it strictly for the love of the art, and to quell the desires of fans who have spent years dreaming about a Com and Rock album. Now, we have an official release date for the album, which is titled The Auditorium, Vol. 1.

Common took to Instagram on June 11 to break the news. He revealed the album title and the release date in one fell swoop. He also gave some insight into its origins. “I am super geeked and supremely grateful to announce… The Auditorium Vol. 1 dropping July 12,” he wrote. “We pray and hope that this music will move your spirit and be with you for the rest of your life. Thanks to all who helped make it happen and to all of you for the Supreme Love. GOD Bless.” The rapper also discussed the anticipation surrounding the new album. He admitted that he felt great whenever fans voiced their excitement for such a long-anticipated collab. “It just makes me happy to be a part of this art form,” Common noted.

Common And Pete Rock Are Dropping On July 12

Common wasn’t the only one who was excited to unveil the album. Pete Rock left a comment on the post with his own message. “I honor our friendship since 91 home slice lol,” he noted. “This was a dream I had for years to come together with you on something.” The producer also hyped up the results, telling fans it is well worth the wait. “Now we get to show everyone the results after working with each other on our 1st album ever,” he added. “Man this is exciting my bro Thank you so much for this @Common.”

The duo is best known for their 1996 single “The B*tch In Yoo,” which was a diss record aimed at Ice Cube. Com and Rock discussed the diss during a recent appearance on Drink Champs. The latter went on to admit that he supported Common all the way, but was disappointed to learn that Ice Cube was mad at him. The two men reconciled when Ice Cube and Common squashed their beef in 1997. Common even gave Cube a shoutout on the album announcement, citing him as an inspiration.

YTB Fatt Keeps It Tough And Simple With “Get Up On It” Single

YTB Fatt is unmistakable. You can tell it’s him from the moment he gets on the mic, for better or worse. The rapper’s creaky, whispery delivery can be difficult to understand, but it does provide lots of space for vocal experimentation and catchy, eccentric flourishes. “Get Up On It” ditches the pop appeal of a song like “Same” in favor of something that is simple and rattles the speakers in the car. It satisfies this goal, while still giving TYB Fatt room to sound as bizarre as ever.

“Get Up On It” is not a long song. The music video is three minutes, and the first 50 seconds is given to a skit/conversation between some of Fatt’s clique. That leaves two minutes of hard-hitting instrumental left and frankly, it’s more than enough. There isn’t much variety on the song, so the shorter the better. Fatt is the thing that makes it unique. Inexplicably, it still sounds good. YTB Fatt has the ability to make the most creaky, froggy vocal sound intimidating, whether it’s in the form of a lyrical threat of an ad-lib. It doesn’t really make sense, but the tension between the conventional beat and the unconventional delivery is what ultimately makes the song worth checking out.
