Ransom & Nicholas Craven Tap Talib Kweli & Raina Simone For “Minority Report”

Jersey City MC Ransom and producer Nicholas Craven recently released a full-length collaborative project, Directors Cut 4. For fans of soulful and sample-heavy production, intricate rhymes, and a refreshed take on classic hip-hop, this is one of the most notable releases of the week. Although it contains plenty of standouts, one that’s bound to particularly resonate with fans is the stacked “Minority Report.” Featuring Talib Kweli and Raina Simone, this song focuses on authenticity, talent within hip-hop, and emerging from a system that is stacked against you. There are a lot of heavy street bars on here, as well as more spiritual fare and comments on political oppression, but don’t let this denseness put you off.

For starters, the beat by Nicholas Craven might remind listeners of some of Ransom’s earlier beats like “Sinatra’s Demons.” Like that song, this track contains some powerful strings and a minimal but still noticeable drum pattern to keep the song grounded. Also, there’s an interesting mix between these strings and some faint background vocals that seem more ghostly than anything else. Considering the track’s weighted subject matter, this just adds to the drama and impact of the sharp bars. For example, the legendary Talib Kweli’s verse takes more of a violence-oriented focus, speaking on snitches and posturing in the world of crime.

Ransom & Nicholas Craven’s “Minority Report”

Matched with Ransom’s opening verse and chorus, this makes for a bittersweetly triumphant cut. To close things off before the last chorus, lyricist Raina Simone delivers a killer verse about her struggles, experience, and legacy as a Black woman. Even though this songs packs a deep punch, it still thrives in the fundamentals of the genre (like much of his material) to make an engaging listen. If you haven’t heard Directors Cut 4 yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service and peep some notable lines from “Minority Report” down below. Travis Scott Compares “UTOPIA” To “Owl Pharaoh” And “Rodeo”

During a recent festival performance, Travis Scott discussed his upcoming album, UTOPIA. The artist claimed that the highly-anticipated LP reminds him of some of his older projects, namely 2013’s Owl Pharaoh and 2015’s Rodeo. If the new album actually proves to be reminiscent of his previous work, it’s sure to be a fan favorite. It’s clear that he’s been putting his all into the upcoming release, based on the lengths he’s been going to promote it. He’s continued to tease UTOPIA with the album’s famous briefcase, attending various events with it handcuffed to body guards. He also recently attended Michael Rubin’s Fourth of July White Party in the Hamptons, arriving in a new UTOPIA tour bus.

Recently, it was confirmed that The Weeknd will be featured on the upcoming LP. The artist had previously been photographed alongside the UTOPIA briefcase, leading to rumors that he’d appear on the album. Co-founder of XO Records, Amir Esmailian, hopped on Instagram last week to share the news. He posed a photo of himself holding the briefcase, captioning it with an hourglass emoji and tagging Travis Scott and The Weeknd.

Travis Scott Continues To Tease UTOPIA

Earlier this month, it was also reported that Travis Scott has been filming the album’s trailer. A clip of the rapper spray painting UTOPIA onto a wall in Tarragona, Spain surfaced, which is said to be featured in the trailer. According to a Tweet, the trailer will showcase Travis Scott “‘looking for UTOPIA in different countries across the world.”

Travis Scott also appears on Lil Uzi Vert’s newly-released album, Pink Tape. The two artists collaborated on the track “Aye,” which they recently performed together live for the first time. They graced the stage at Dublin, Ireland’s Longitude 2023 earlier this month to showcase the song. Lil Uzi Vert, however, isn’t the only rapper that Travis has performed with recently. Yesterday (July 8), he headlined Wireless Festival in England, and brought out special guest Sexyy Red.

ASAP Twelvyy Proclaims That “Kids Gotta Eat” On New Album

A$AP Twelvyy is back with a vengeance on his latest album Kid$ Gotta Eat, a 15-track offering of intricate rhymes and varied production. Moreover, this is his first full-length project since 2020’s Noon Yung, so it’s been a really long time since we’ve heard from him in this capacity. Fortunately, Kid$ Gotta Eat contains a little bit of everything: drumless introspection, bass-heavy trap bangers, boom-bap-style throwbacks, and even some Jersey club-reminiscent cuts in there. In addition, there are a few songs here that pull heavily from should and R&B, whether thanks to its samples or the instrumentation itself.

As such, this album flows quite erratically from track to track, but each track still has the potential to sink you into it within seconds. Also, some smooth transitions between songs make the experience a little more easily digestible for those who want to stay on one speed. Overall, it’s also a compelling collection of personal narratives, whether about ASAP Twelvyy’s neighborhood, his career come-up, or his observations of his surroundings. While this is a tried and true formula for an established career’s release, the New York MC still shows his hunger and writing ability on here. Elsewhere, he’s still able to fit a banger quite well with varied flows and a confident delivery.

Dominic Fike Brings Florida Vibes To Your Headphones With “Sunburn” Album Featuring Weezer

A few years ago, Dominic Fike was a relatively low-key artist, best known for his affiliation with BROCKHAMPTON. Now, however, he’s made a name for himself as a main character on one of HBO’s biggest shows, which could only be topped by the arrival of his sophomore album. Sunburn, a 15-track release with just one guest appearance from Weezer, landed this past New Music Friday (July 7), and so far, fans seem to be loving it even more than Fike’s 2020 debut.

On What Could Possibly Go Wrong the Florida-born artist operated solo across 14 titles. “Why,” “Superstar Sh*t,” and “Chicken Tenders” have become the most popular tracks in the years since, helping to propel his career to new heights. Ahead of Sunburn, Fike shared “Dancing In The Courthouse,” “Ant Pile,” and “Mama’s Boy” as singles. In addition to that, he teamed up with Metro Boomin for “Mona Lisa,” which also appears on the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack.

Reese LAFLARE & DJ Drama Make Fireworks On “Diva Vol. 4”

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a long-form offering from Atlanta rapper Reese LAFLARE, and it seems like he knew that. Moreover, his latest project, a Gangsta Grillz collaboration with DJ Drama, holds a versatile set of tracks that sees him at his best. Diva Vol. 4 is as soulful as it is saucy, as hard as it is heavenly, and as versatile as it is volitional. Almost every track here seems like it serves a specific mood-driven or instrumental purpose in the tracklist. As such, Reese crafted a tight and consistently entertaining body of work that shows off a lot of catchy flows and compelling performances.

Instrumentally, there are a lot of pallets here that switch up from track to track, resulting in a lot of variety. Furthermore, Reese LAFLARE is just as prone to float over a trap beat, a West Coast banger, or more R&B-influenced cuts. Not only that, but the 35-year-old does a very effective job of switching his performance from song to song to fit the vibe. It’s definitely been a long way since the first volume of Diva, and his artistic sensibilities this time around display that growth. In addition, he taps a lot of guests here to add to Vol. 4‘s color, variety, and exciting nature.

Lil Tjay Unveils “222” Tracklist

Amid a slew of new releases and what’s shaping up to be a hot new hip-hop summer, Lil Tjay is throwing his hat into the ring at the top. Moreover, his next and very anticipated project, which has been two years in the making, is 222, and it drops on Friday (July 14). Not only that, but today he released a new single for the project, “Project Walls,” featuring none other than NBA YoungBoy. With this hype in mind, the New York rapper added another layer to it by revealing the album’s tracklist and features, as well. Furthermore, his first album since his near-fatal 2022 shooting is shaping up to be an impactful return statement with some big names.

In addition to YB, there are plenty of other features here to talk about, including ones that may seem like surprises to non-fans. In addition, the cut “Bla Bla” features Fivio Foreign, so there’s probably another NYC drill banger on the way. Considering that a lot of people like to complain about long trackless these days, 222 is looking like a concise and tight offering. That being said, Lil Tjay has done so much in these past few years despite his circumstances that one wouldn’t be surprised if he fits 30 tracks of his experiences. Of course, that’s translated a little more into luxury as the 22-year-old developed his career. For example, he recently had a fantastic time at Paris Fashion Week, popping up seemingly everywhere.

Meanwhile, Tjay’s last project, Destined 2 Win, came out two years ago, so fans have been waiting for a while. Travis Scott Teases “UTOPIA” With New Tour Bus

Travis Scott is gearing up to release his new album UTOPIA, very soon. However, it is still unknown when he will drop the project. Based on some billboards, a lot of fans think this album is going to be coming out on July 21st. Although, this has not been confirmed. What we do know is that Travis has been busy in Europe thanks to numerous festivals. Furthermore, he has seemingly been filming some sort of album trailer that will most definitely get all of his fans very excited.

Overall, Travis Scott has always been extremely protective of his art. When Astroworld came out, it wasn’t until a few weeks before that we got the release date. Additionally, the only lead single from the album that had dropped prior to the project’s release was “Butterfly Effect.” Clearly, Travis is doing the exact same thing with UTOPIA, and fans are more than excited to see how all of this is going to shape up in the end.

Rylo Rodriguez Proves He’s “Been One” On New Album

4PF artist Rylo Rodriguez is back with his latest album, released on Friday (June 30), titled Been One. If you’re already a fan of the Alabama rapper’s style, beat selection, delivery, and stream-of-consciousness flows, then we have very good news for you. Across 19 tracks, Rylo delivers a nice split between more introspective cuts and punchy, fast-tempo bangers that keep the tracklist experience pretty dynamic. Also, it’s clear that he came a long way from some of his previous singles, such as the early 2022 release of “Set Me Free.” As such, this is a consistent albeit elongated album that speaks to his strengths as an MC.

For example, the 29-year-old comes through with a lot of faster rhymes and hardened delivery over banging beats like “Unf**kwitable” and the EST Gee-assisted “On Da Floor.” Furthermore, these tracks represent the braggadocious and hungry sides of the street duality he delves into on Been One. On the other hand, Rylo Rodriguez also comes through with more melodic or low-key performances on tracks like “Room Comfort,” featuring Fridayy and Lil Durk. Others like “Thang For You” with NoCap and “Free Game” see him sharpening his pen with a little more topical focus. In addition, there are some tracks that fit somewhere in between like the Lil Yachty collab “Taylor Port Junkie.”

Rylo Rodriguez’s Been One

Unfortunately, Rylo had to battle a lot of demons on his way to the top, which he addresses on Been One. If you haven’t heard the new project yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service and check out the tracklist below. Also, stick around on HNHH for more on Rylo Rodriguez and the latest great releases in hip-hop.

Lil Uzi Vert & Travis Scott’s “Aye” Off “The Pink Tape” Is A Moshpit Banger

Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape proved itself to be quite the versatile project: metal headbangers, rage, synth-led bops, and some softer cuts. Overall, fans of any style of theirs will probably find at least a couple of tracks to latch onto on this gargantuan and highly-anticipated project. However, there’s one song here that’s meant for the moshpit frequenters, and that’s “Aye” featuring none other than Travis Scott. Of course, this explosive track is exactly what fans expected from this team-up, and it’s actually been a long time coming. Not only is this a previous leak, but it’s also their first official collaboration since the 2018 single “Watch.”

As far as their performances, the two MCs follow a similar vocal and melodic path when it comes to their flows. Rather, La Flame follows Lil Uzi Vert’s flow at first, and includes some switch-ups and more high-pitched vocalizations throughout. In Uzi’s case, they bring the energy to almost overloading levels with their shouts, emphatic lines, and rough tone. They show off plenty of chemistry here, even if Travis Scott has a pretty cringe griddy bar in there that doesn’t show him at his best pen game by any means. Even though the Philly MC isn’t going full lyrical miracle either, both artists bring an infectious energy to “Aye” that will have you shouting that repetitive chorus as well.

Lil Uzi Vert & Travis Scott’s “Aye”

Meanwhile, the instrumental here is dramatic, hype-fueling, and addictive. The gorgeous strings that start the track off actually change pitch at a certain point, making the beat just a little more dynamic. Along with a slow-tempo trap beat with minimal hi-hats and snares (plus booming bass), it’s exactly the kind of track to throw elbows out and jump to at a show. If you haven’t heard it or the rest of Pink Tape yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service.
