Dro Kenji Comes Through With 17-Song Album “WISH YOU WERE HERE”

Dro Kenji has just released his eighth project of his early career, WISH YOU WERE HERE. His start in rap began around 2019 with his first single “Rokstarr.” Then, he began to gain some steam and got some notoriety from the record label Internet Money. The label liked what they heard from the youngster from Virginia and signed him. From there he went on to put out his first single under Internet Money with “100 Rounds.”

Now, he has eight projects under his belt in such a short span and his sound is very reminiscent of a few major voices. Two of the most recognizable are the late and great Juice WRLD and XXXTentacion. He appears to have a lot of influence on Kenji’s take on emo and trap rap, which is not bad by any means. Kenji definitely has all the tools to be another star in the space and this new album is a great listen.

Kenji has a lot of range as a singer too which is displayed on this track and many others. The tracklist has 17 songs with regular collaborator, Mike Dimes on the banger “PAMPER PAMPER.” Overall, if you are not familiar with Kenji, give this a spin.

Quavo Releases Touching Music Video For “Hold Me”

Another anticipated album this year was Quavo’s Rocket Power and it delivered. The project is a tribute to the late and great member of the Migos, Takeoff. He tragically passed away nine months ago after an altercation broke out over a dice game. It was news that put the world of hip-hop on pause for quite some time and it is still hard for many to remember that night. Obviously, Quavo took the news harder than most, but this new album was giving him power and therapy throughout the process.

A few months ago he shared a post on Instagram and shared some details about Rocket Power. He said in the caption, “Rocket Power keeps me going, rocket power gives me fuel. Rocket Power will help us all overcome whatever we’re going through.” One song that shows Quavo’s strength, but also his vulnerability is “Hold Me.” The lyrics are heartfelt and speak about his mental state and his connection with God to help him.

Quavo Did An Amazing Job

The music video is perfect and it matches the message of the song beautifully. In the first half, it shows people close to Takeoff coming together to celebrate his life. In the second half of the video, Quavo is performing live in what looks to be a show for his running mate. It is a gorgeous set of visuals to go with the raw emotion of the song.

What are your thoughts on this music video for Quavo’s song “Hold Me” off of Rocket Power? Did this music video get you in the feels? Is this the best song on the album? We want to know what all of your thoughts and opinions are, so be sure to put them in the comments section below. KEY! Is Back With His New Album “Marquis”

KEY! is back with his brand new album Marquis, which was released on August 18. The name might not be familiar to you, but he has been making music since the early 2010s. Specifically, his first effort was dropped back on July 2, 2012. It was titled Mothers Are the Blame and since then he has been featured on some of the biggest projects of the last couple of years.

For example, he was a guest on Dreamville’s Revenge Of The Dreamers III making a star-studded track called “Oh Wow… Swerve” with J. Cole. Then, he appeared on the A$AP Mob’s 2017 project Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy. There he was on Please Shut Up with A$AP Rocky and Gucci Mane. So, he has a history of big artists recruiting him for some of their biggest releases. It is nice to see that trend for KEY! and hopefully it can continue.

Bryson Tiller Comes Through With Soundcloud Mixtape “SLUM TILLER VOL. 1”

Bryson Tiller has a reputation in the music community that comes and goes, just as much as he does. He will consistently be praised and then there will be a time when people forget about him. It is understandable though, because the Kentucky singer and rapper does not drop new material that often. However, when he does it is usually high quality and that is what we have here with this new mixtape.

Yes, you heard that right, a new project from Tiller! Pen Griffey, as he goes by in some of his songs, definitely delivers on this Soundcloud exclusive. It is a concise tracklist that is only five songs that maybe reaches the 13-minute mark. On August 18, the artist shared the news that he was going to drop a mixtape called SLUM TILLER VOL. 1 through a Twitch stream. It was a little interesting to hear that it would only be on this platform because it is not the best outlet for bigger artists to share their new stuff, but it is better that we have something from Tiller.

Bryson Is Back

The 30-year-old talent delivers on every track here. It has vibes similar to T R A P S O U L, which is what got him the co-sign from Drake. “NUMB,” “Coy,” “Big Spender,” “Stay Gold,” and “Resolution” are the track names and all of them have a unique sound which is another welcome sign. This could be the start of the return of 2015 Bryson and we are hoping for that and then some.

What are your thoughts on this surprise mixtape, SLUM TILLER VOL. 1, from Bryson Tiller? Have you had a chance to check out this project? If so what track is your favorite? Do you think Bryson is coming back with a new album soon? We want to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Fans React To Quavo’s “Rocket Power”: The Good, The Bad & The Beautiful

Quavo’s Rocket Power is finally out, and fans have wasted no time discussing it in social media circles. Given that it’s a tribute album to his late rap partner Takeoff, there’s a lot to digest here and it’s not the easiest listen. Still, it seems like people have an array of opinions on it online, most of them being positive celebrations of not just the late Migo, but of Quavo’s own growth and talent as an artist. Fans already have some of their favorite tracks set, and the reception indicates that it’s quite a balanced and engaging listen regardless of which angle you see it through. With features from the likes of Young Thug, Future, and Takeoff himself, there’s a lot of star power and bangers to be found here, as well as more emotive cuts.

“My favorite tracks: ‘patty cake’, ‘hold me’, ‘Fueled up’,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “You really feel the emotion in these tracks, and it’s good to get more songs featured with takeoff in it. Beautiful tribute to takeoff.” Another added “Easily one of my favorite albums this year. Quavo really did his thing and made a beautiful album.”

Quavo’s New Album Gets Praised

“Easily the best album dropped this year in the rap space,” an impassioned fan wrote of Quavo’s latest. “I love migos have for a while so I’m trying to not sound bias but this genuinely is one of the best productions any of them have had as a group or solo artist. You can tell he took his time and spoke his mind. Emotional.” However, someone responded with some pushback. “Quavo is not versatile enough for this album to be better than Utopia but its overall a solid album with some bangers, just kind of get artist fatigue from the lack of vocal differences by the end of the track list.” Check out more reactions below.

More Rocket Power Takes

Meanwhile, the Georgia trap pioneer continually finds ways to honor Takeoff amid this album’s hype and great reception. For example, he recently celebrated their collab album, Only Built For Infinity Links, reaching gold certification by the RIAA. Let us know what you think of Rocket Power in the comments down below. Russ Gets Introspective With “Santiago”

Russ gets more vulnerable than ever with his latest project, Santiago. Throughout the 13-track project, the rapper explores his struggles with fame, relationships, family, and more. It features slower tempos and emo-inspired sounds. As Santiago contains no features, fans can concentrate on Russ and his journey. This would be his first project since Chomp 2.5, which he released in May.

The rapper took to Instagram a few months back to announce the project. Russ noted how much the album meant to him and how he had to do some soul-searching for it. “This album represents my mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional journey to my treasure (I talk more about what my treasure is on the album, but it’s symbolized by the pyramid). The journey at times wasn’t and isn’t pretty,” Russ wrote. “I’ve put myself through the ringer and beat myself up quite a bit along the way. The front cover depicts externally what that sort of psychological warfare looks like.”

“Santiago” Symbolizes His Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual Journey, He Says

He continued: “I’m really excited. I’m really nervous. SANTIAGO is my journey to self love & self mastery while touching on the obstacles that have provided resistance along the way…feelings of emptiness, inadequacy, imposter syndrome, doubt, anger, shame (to name a few), and ultimately issues from my childhood that have shown up in my adult life. It’s my attempt to understand, navigate, and heal.”

In other related news, Russ discussed why he views Spotify’s “monthly listeners” stat as misleading. “Sat down with Spotify and got to finally debunk wtf monthly listeners actually means,” he wrote on Twitter. In a subsequent post, Russ stated: “I have 10,000,000 people in my active audience out of my 14m monthly listeners. That’s people who go out of their way to listen to my music. The rest is people who heard it on a playlist or Spotify radio etc.. they weren’t actively tryna hear it. This is why I say the monthly listener number is a facade.”

One thing fans are expecting to hear is an EDM-flavored collaboration with Steve Aoki. Cudi showed up at one of the superstar’s recent performances where they previewed the song.

Mick Jenkins Excels On New Album “The Patience” With JID, Freddie Gibbs & More

One of Chicago’s finest is back, and Mick Jenkins understood the assignment on his brand new album “The Patience.” Moreover, fans already knew they were getting something special with its lead single, “Smoke Break-Dance” with JID. However, the tracklist still contains a lot of surprises, different emotional pallets, instrumental styles, and consistently great lyrical performances. It’s a concise and no-filler 27 minutes across 11 tracks, and also features Freddie Gibbs, Benny The Butcher, and Vic Mensa. Furthermore, the Alabama-born and Windy City-raised MC explained the concept behind this project in a press release.

The Patience: As best I can be, I am a person who does everything within his power to change his situation,” Mick Jenkins expressed. “I think with some level of consistency, that behavior inevitably leads you to a point where you have to wait. A point where the things that now need to happen to move you forward are no longer in your control. I see this as a period of time in one’s journey, no matter the length, where the unseen things must take place; The muscles must tear and repair, the understanding of a concept coming to you in a moment completely devoid of artistic intention. It’s through these moments where I’ve found myself being the most frustrated with patience. And this body of work sounds like that frustration.”

Don’t let this one fall under your radar; it’s one of the most tightly packaged efforts of the year so far. If you haven’t heard this album yet, find it on your preferred streaming service and peep the tracklist below.
