Did Biggie Want To Leave Bad Boy Records & Diddy Behind Before His Death?

Diddy’s ongoing legal issues have led to a wide array of deep dives into his character, as well as his past conduct. According to a new report in Rolling Stone, Biggie planned to leave Diddy and Bad Boy Records in the days leading up to his untimely death. Although no one can confirm this information 100 percent, eyewitnesses and sources close to the famed rapper offer quite damning evidence against Diddy’s cause. The report is fairly comprehensive and outlines an alleged pattern of behavior from Diddy that would likely drive any self-respecting rapper such as Biggie to depart the Bad Boy label if true. So, let’s dive into the available information and unpack the story.

The Issues Stem From A Financial Dispute

Long before this new report about Biggie hit the web, Diddy and Bad Boy Records had been maligned for being cursed. Many hip hop fans have noted throughout the years that droves of Bad Boy signees have fallen on hard times. This includes financial disputes, physical violence, and lengthy prison sentences. The so-called Bad Boy curse famously affected Shyne, a Bad Boy rapper who received a 10-year prison sentence for a nightclub shooting that involved Diddy. In the case of Biggie, it seems that he was in a fight with Diddy and the mega-label during his final months regarding finances and publishing rights.

Per the Rolling Stone report, Biggie was in the process of lawyering up before his passing in 1997. When pressed about the publishing at the time, Diddy is quoted as purportedly saying, “I will never give it up until I’m dead and my bones are crushed into powder.” So, there was allegedly bad blood developing behind the scenes. Biggie and Diddy always appeared to get along well in public settings, though Tupac Shakur’s negative view of the Bad Boy head honcho is one of the main contributing factors to the explosive East Coast vs. West Coast beef.

Biggie’s Mom Weighs In

The Notorious B.I.G.’s own mother has recently come out to condemn Diddy, specifically stating, “I hope that I see Sean one day and the only thing I want to do is slap the daylights out of him.” While her strong words aren’t necessarily related to Diddy’s relationship with her late son, it seems clear that Volleta Wallace wouldn’t offer such strong words regarding the Bad Boy founder if she believed that he and Biggie had ended things on good terms.

According to a write-up in People, it seems that Wallace’s wish to slap Diddy stems from her knowledge that he allegedly abused his former girlfriend Cassie on camera and held a great deal of jealousy regarding Biggie’s friendship with Tupac. While speaking with the press, Wallace continued, “I liked him. I didn’t want to believe all the awful things, but I’m so ashamed and embarrassed.”

Diddy Took Biggie’s Spot On The Rolling Stone Cover

To further indicate the growing animosity between Biggie and Diddy, former Bad Boy partner Kirk Burrowes claims that Diddy refused to let Biggie take his place on the cover of Rolling Stone shortly after the “Who Shot Ya” rapper’s death. Apparently, Diddy was scheduled for a July 1997 cover shoot, though Burrowes and Rolling Stone agreed that the space would be better reserved for the recently slain rapper, arguing that Diddy would have plenty of chances to appear on the cover later.

Diddy refused and took the cover position for himself, apparently stating, “No, he’s dead. I’m putting out No Way Out in July. I need to be on the cover of Rolling Stone,” according to Burrowes. Indeed, there were many growing tensions at the label, which fans were not aware of up to this point. As more information comes to light about Diddy’s ongoing legal and personal drama, stories like this will likely continue surfacing.

Denzel Curry Reveals Insane Feature List For Possibly His Second To Last Album

Denzel Curry easily possesses one of the most consistent discographies out of any rapper from the 2010s era. You could throw up his run of Imperial, TA13BOO, ZUU, UNLOCKED, and Melt My Eyez See Your Future against almost anyone. With nearly each release, especially when it is conceptual, Zel has one upped himself each time. Even when it comes to the shorter and straightforward releases like ZUU and UNLOCKED, he is still delivering engaging material. Yet and still, Denzel Curry somehow finds himself in this weird middle ground between mainstream and “underground”. Well, he is certainly gunning for more of a widespread appeal on his forthcoming project.

NFR Podcast and numerous others have discovered that Curry is grabbing some major players for what is to be one of his last records. The Florida multi-hyphenate shared what may be the cover art, which includes a shelf of some iconic hip-hop’s most iconic albums on IG. In that post he tagged all of the guests, and they are incredible. Fans can expect to hear the likes of A$AP Rocky & Ferg (FERG), 2 Chainz, Ski Mask The Slump God, Ty Dolla $ign, That Mexican OT, and more. We still do not have a release date yet, nor the title of the LP, although a few names have circled.

The two most popular include ULTRAGROUND and ZXLTRXN BIG ULTRA. While those bits of information are up in the air, we also hope that the end Denzel’s music career is still an unknown. As we mentioned, this has the possibility of being one of his last bodies of work. Potentially, it could be his second to last. Four years ago, Curry revealed to XXL that he would dropping three more albums after 2020. We got the first of the supposed three with Melt My Eyez in 2022, so this impending ’24 effort would leave room for one more. Zel also mentioned that he has been working on a manga, wants to get into acting, and has aspirations of becoming animator/director. Whatever the road ahead looks like for him, we are going to enjoy the ride for now.

What are your thoughts on the feature list for the upcoming Denzel Curry album? Who are you the most excited to hear on this unnamed project and why? How do you feel about this being one of his last LPs?What kind of direction would you like to see him go in? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Denzel Curry. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Black Thought, Common & Freeway Spit Alongside Method Man & Redman For “4,3,2,1” Remix

“4,3,2,1” is a classic hip-hop posse cut from LL Cool J, Canibus, DMX, and Master P from 1997’s Phenomenon by LL which clearly still lives on. Moreover, a slew of amazing MCs remixed the cut at The Roots’ Picnic Festival during J.Period’s Live Mixtape set on Saturday (June 1). Black Thought, Common, Method Man, Redman, and Freeway linked up to give this instrumental a new rendition, and fans seemed pretty impressed both online and in the live setting. Black Thought in particular spit over a lot of classic instrumentals as well, including Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect Ya Neck,” Raekwon’s “Ice Cream,” and GZA’s “Shadowboxin’.”

“30 Years Ago Today w. 6 one way tickets in hand we took a risk and left our beloved City Of Philadelphia for the shaky shores of Londontown — specifically Camden — the East Village Of London,” Questlove wrote of The Roots’ Picnic Festival and this particular moment with Black Thought and company. “2 weeks into our stay we did our first festival (a last min side stage add on to [Glastonbury]) and we promised hook or crook we would bring a festival to our city.

Questlove’s Post Thanking Black Thought, Common, Method Man, Redman & Freeway For Their Amazing “4,3,2,1” Rendition

“In 2008 that dream came true when the first @rootspicnic came to fruition,” Questlove continued, later adding a comment in his caption about this Black Thought, Common, Freeway, Method Man, and Freeway link-up. “We wanted quality acts & a variety (some older names, some newer names, some right up your alley and especially the “wtf!!!?” variety——-keeps y’all guessing)——I’m especially proud of our ability to pick em when they are brand new. […] This moment was epic: @methodmanofficial @redmangilla @phillyfreeway @common @jperiodbk @stroelliot & their fearless leader @blackthought making it look so easy. Thank You Philadelphia.”

You can see the full “4,3,2,1” remix at around the 13-minute and 45-second mark of the video above.

Meanwhile, hopefully this showing from Black Thought and company went better for Method Man crowd-wise compared to how disappointed he was with Summer Jam’s crowd recently. “Not our crowd at all..” he wrote of the event. “Thanks again, New York and the whole tri-state (that showed up to the event) plus Pete and Ebro I got love for you guys, but never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me.. #nevercomingback.”

Cher Is ‘Proud’ Of Her Boyfriend Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, Saying He Didn’t Start The Cannes Fight WIth Travis Scott But ‘Finished It’

Cher is generally unfazed by the criticism of her relationship with Alexander “AE” Edwards, a Universal Music Group executive who is 40 years younger than the 78-year-old impending Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2024 inductee. Cher is also unfazed by Edwards’ decision to fight Travis Scott and Southside at Cannes last month.

“I’m Proud of Alexander,” Cher wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, June 1, and yes, Cher’s erratic capitalization remains unedited for effect. “He Didn’t Start The fight Against 2 Men,… He finished it, Gotta Love Him.”

TMZ reported the physical altercation, complete with grainy video footage, and cited unnamed witnesses who claimed that Edwards “was the instigator, as he ran up on stage and initiated physical contact” with Scott at Richie Akiva’s annual amFAR The After party on May 23. Last week, TMZ caught up with Edwards at Los Angeles International Airport, where Edwards (sort of) clarified what actually happened.

“Shout-out Southside,” Edwards said. “That’s my n****. I know he was defending his boy and doing what he was supposed to be doing as his boy. I don’t got no hard feelings. It is what it is. It went how it went. That’s it.”

Edwards explained that he “doesn’t wanna fight” and denied initiating but acknowledged “I’m gonna protect myself and my people.” He also assured any concerned fans that Cher was not upset, using Future and Metro Boomin’s “GTA” as a reference point when describing Cher’s reaction: “Like Future say, ‘Whatever I’m with, my b*tch with it, too.’ My woman, but the lyrics are the lyrics.”

TMZ’s original report relayed that “the fight started after both Travis and Tyga were on stage behind the DJ booth,” and Scott appeared to become upset after Richie Akiva told the crowd, “We got T-Raww, AE, and Travis in the building” — “possibly a Kylie Jenner exes thing.” Edwards is a close friend of Tyga’s.

When Does Eminem’s ‘The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’ Come Out?

eminem

With the release of his new single “Houdini” in the rearview, Eminem fans are now looking forward to the release of his upcoming album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). Em announced the album in late April after teasing fans with a phony album announcement to start the month — April Fools!

So, when is Eminem’s new album, The Death Of Slim Shady, scheduled for release?

Although no formal release date has been given as yet, Eminem did give a release window, “Summer 2024.” That means that the album could be out as early as this month, and as late as September. However, Eminem has made the album available for pre-order for “one week only” as a limited-edition digital release with an exclusive bonus track. You can pre-order the album on Eminem’s website.

In addition to releasing his twelfth studio album this year, Eminem had previously announced plans to produce a documentary about stan culture — although it seems that it’ll be specifically about Eminem fans rather than the larger phenomenon. Fans looking for new music from their hero received a new song, as well, in the form of “Doomsday 2,” which appeared on the Lyrical Lemonade album, All Is Yellow, with a video featuring a slew of artists he’s inspired over the years, including Big Sean, Cordae, Denzel Curry, JID, and Teezo Touchdown.
