Are Jennifer Hudson And Common Dating?

On Monday, November 6, Jennifer Hudson stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers and discussed becoming an EGOT winner, dressing as Missy Elliott for Halloween, and overcoming her fear of public speaking to successfully host The Jennifer Hudson Show. It was a lovely exchange, but Hudson saved the relationship talk for Gayle King and the CBS Mornings crew. Hudson’s love life is a point of interest (again) this week, as a viral Backgrid paparazzi photo of Hudson and Common — an Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar winner, for those keeping score at home — holding hands in New York City is making the rounds. So, are they dating?

“Professional Jennifer is doing well,” King said toward the end of the five-plus-minute segment. “Personally, is Jennifer doing well? Word on the street is you’re very happy [and in] a very nice relationship.”

Hudson confirmed she is, indeed, “very happy” before King politely added the caveat that Hudson’s relationship is “with someone who shall remain nameless,” which earned a belly laugh from Hudson. That’s when co-host and former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson cut in more directly, saying, “So, you booed up?”

“Booed up?” Hudson responded. “Hmm, I think it’s more sophisticated than ‘booed up.’” Burleson pressed on with brave investigative journalism to further clarify whether Hudson is in a “situationship” or “entanglement,” to which Hudson said, “It’s definitely not an entanglement. That’s for sure!”

Dating rumors around Common and Hudson started bubbling in August 2022, shortly after news broke that they would be starring in the action-thriller Breathe. Hudson more or less shut the rumor mill down in September 2022. She told Entertainment Tonight, “People create their narratives of it, and it’s like, OK, you know, how you feel. We shot a film together, and he played my husband. We gotta eat in between those moments.”

To Hudson’s point, they were photographed together at Nobu in Malibu, California this February (as noted by People), and then, TMZ asked Hudson about it again this August. Hudson expertly side-stepped the question by saying, “Rumors say a lot of things, but he’s a beautiful man. I will give you that. That’s for certain.” Within the same report, TMZ relayed that unnamed sources told the outlet Common and Hudson had “been together for months.”

Neither Common nor Hudson have explicitly publicly confirmed that they are dating each other, but this week’s hand-holding and talk-show giddiness are the most convincing clues in our evidence pile.

Missy Elliott is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Saucy Santa Goes Nuclear On Charleston White For His Comments Amid Beef With DJ Akademiks: Watch

DJ Akademiks and Yung Miami of the femcee duo, City Girls, have been going back and forth quite some time now. He has repeatedly called her out for lacking much of any talent, and recently, for using homophobic slurs against him. While it is hard to take him seriously most of the time, sometimes he can cross some barriers. There are plenty of cases where he just likes to cause a stir in the community just because. One person who is getting really sick and tired of him is Saucy Santana.

Both of them have been going at it over the Yung Miami slander. This makes sense because Saucy used to do makeup for the City Girls. Of course, they naturally became close and he felt the need to step in and defend the rapper. This has gotten very messy over the past few days, especially with outsiders coming to the defense on both sides of the beef. Recently, one more social media figure decided to weigh in.

That would be none other than Charleston White. He fits the same mold as Akademiks as being a controversial pundit. In the video clips above, the last one reveals what he had to say about the latest developments about the DJ, Saucy, and Miami. One of the most shocking statements White made was about straight men supporting each other and going after the gay man. Boy oh boy did Saucy not like that. In the two previous clips, you can see how furious he is. The comments section certainly brings up some valid and interesting points about it all. Certainly, more and more shade will be thrown and we will be here to cover it.

What are your initial thoughts on this new beef between Saucy Santana and Charleston White? Whose side are you on in the ongoing feud? Does the comments section have a valid point against Charleston? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. What Pusha T Album Had The Biggest First-Week Numbers?

Pusha T albums can be summarized with a quote from the Virginia rapper, himself, straight out of “Untouchables”: “I drops every blue moon to separate myself from you kings of the YouTube.” Push has dropped solo projects in 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2022. The gaps between each release only create more hype amongst his fans, especially since he doesn’t do many features between each album drop.

His most recent album, 2022’s It’s Almost Dry, sold 55K units in its first week and went No. 1 on the Billboard 200 because of streaming. However, 2018’s DAYTONA is his best-selling album, with 77K units sold in its first week. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Let’s look back at the project that helped amass Pusha T’s significant success.

A Product Of The Wyoming Sessions

The creative processes of Pusha T albums are often shared by the rapper through interviews. However, the album’s creation made headlines with DAYTONA because of its executive producer, Kanye West. In 2018, Kanye moved to Wyoming and bought a 4,000-acre piece of land home to a $7 million ranch. Here, Kanye produced Pusha T’s entire album – and four others – in a moment known in modern music history as the “Wyoming Sessions.” DAYTONA was the first release from this batch, and the others followed weekly in May 2018. Unfortunately, there was not a livestream for this album listening party like the other releases, but it dropped on time with no errors – unlike some other releases.

Pusha T Believes In Quality Over Quantity

Listeners know Pusha T albums for valuing quality over quantity, but DAYTONA is the best example of this. With only seven tracks and no intro, outro or interlude, the album is as straightforward as it gets. In an interview with NPR, Pusha shared that this tracklist length was not his original plan. “I probably wanted to be 12. 10 or 12,” he said.

However, Kanye had other plans. He wanted the album to have eight songs but brought it down to seven. Ironically, Push said he sent seven paragraphs to Ye about why he disagreed with the short tracklist. Kanye’s decision worked excellently, with fans having fun debates about which song was truly best and every song having over 25 million streams. The opening track, “If You Know You Know,” has a title that has become a common saying across social media, often abbreviated to “IYKYK.”

DAYTONA Had Two Major Moments

Like all Pusha T albums, coke bars and lyrical dexterity are running themes throughout DAYTONA. However, Push sometimes delves away from them and dedicates a whole song to a more vulnerable subject matter. “Santeria” finds him discussing the death of De’Von “Day Day” Pickett, his close friend and road manager. 070 Shake’s haunting vocals help this one have a completely different atmosphere than the other songs, but the beat switch in its final moments brings the album’s core sound back.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention “Infrared” an integral moment in the ongoing feud between him and Drake. The sparse instrumental gave the song a menacing tone, and listeners quickly picked up on the references to Drake and those he knew. This later led to one of the biggest moments in modern rap history – Pusha T exposing that Drake had a son.

Pusha T’s Success Continues

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – SEPTEMBER 03: Pusha T performs onstage during 2022 Made In America at Benjamin Franklin Parkway on September 03, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Theo Wargo/Getty Images for Roc Nation)

DAYTONA is a Pusha T album that helped solidify his presence in the rap game for anyone who doubted him. The album would help push him to more commercial success when its follow-up, 2022’s It’s Almost Dry, went No. 1 on the Billboard 200. DAYTONA was released during the “Surgical Summer,” as Push himself called it, that had rap fans talking and its final track had people that didn’t even listen to him talking.

Push said the album’s title, which refers to a Rolex watch of the same name, meant he had the luxury of time. However, the original title of the album was King Push. Still, no matter how long the wait was, listeners would tap in with his music. The album’s success proved this and people are still listening to it today. It’s been called his best and one of the best in all of modern rap.

Black Thought Recalls Nearly Coming To Blows With Questlove

Black Thought says he once nearly fought his The Roots co-founder, Questlove, during the early years of the group in the 1990s. He discussed the incident during a new interview with NPR ahead of the release of his upcoming book, The Upcycled Self.

“We had a brief sort of scuffle, kerfuffle, a little 30-second altercation when we were young and just starting out,” he told the outlet. “We were displaced, living in London and there was just lots of angst and anxiety … with all the energy associated with anyone’s first time putting out a record. … So, yeah, just the perfect storm of events.”

He continued: “It led to us coming to blows right quick. And it was the sort of thing that I’d forgotten about it before we left the place [where] it had taken place. But I think it’s the sort of thing that it stuck with him in a different way. Is it a grudge that he’s held? I don’t think so. But I definitely don’t think it’s something that he has ever forgotten.” Despite nearing fighting back in the day, the two have maintained a close friendship for decades. Questlove celebrated Black Thought’s 50th birthday by digging up a rare photo of the two in high school. He described it as the first picture they ever took together. “Took forever finding this photo we took back in high school in 1988,” he wrote on social media, last month, labeling Black Thought a “cool kid” and himself a “dweeb.” “Our first ever photo. I’m not even sure if we were Radioactivity yet. I wish I could let these two know the journey that lay ahead for them.”

Black Thought’s The Upcycled Self will be hitting bookshelves on November 14. Be on the lookout for further updates on the memoir on HotNewHipHop.

Quando Rondo Thinks Someone In His Circle Snitched On Him

Recently, Quando Rondo took to social media to call out someone in his crew who he believes snitched on him. The rapper was arrested back in June for allegedly violating Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism Act. He was later released on bond, allowing him to continue working. At the end of September, Georgia prosecutors tried to have him banned from his hometown of Savannah, arguing that he’s a frequent target for gun violence. Fortunately for the 24-year-old, a judge recently denied the motion, meaning he’s not barred from entering Chatham County. He’s currently facing various drug and gang charges.

He shared his snitching accusations in an Instagram Story earlier today, noting that legal documents are what have led him to come to this conclusion. “I aint fw nobody right now !” he began, “I dont want nobody with my number right now ! I got one of the [best] lawyers and private investigators on my team this discovery nd paperwork done open my eyes one of yall n***as in the circle been talking thats why i cut all ties im innocent !”

Quando Rondo Maintains His Innocence

“They gone say who lul bruh talking bout im talking bout everybody im putting this out there so everybody can see this yall n***as hell im to solid to fold !” he continued. “I dont want no beef with you ima str8 up tell you in yo face you got it im scared of you.” While it remains unclear who exactly the artist is referring to, fans are, of course, speculating in the comments section.

In July, Quando Rondo was involved in a high-speed car accident in Georgia while out on bond. Reportedly, he was given Narcan by first responders at the scene because he was exhibiting signs of an overdose. At the time, prosecutors pushed for his bond to be revoked, however, a judge ruled in his favor. What do you think of Quando Rondo accusing someone in his crew of snitching on him? Furthermore, Meek Mill’s fiery delivery and Ross’s authoritative presence combine to create a track that remains a staple in hip-hop playlists.

“Tupac Back”

Released in the same year as “Ima Boss,” “Tupac Back” is another track that stands out in their catalog. “Believe It”

A gem from Meek Mill’s debut album, Dreams And Nightmares, “Believe It” quickly became a street anthem and an underrated cut off of the project. This track underscores the creative synergy between Rick Ross and Meek Mill. The two cleverly describe the drug trade, using two of the biggest pop stars of the time – Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber – as euphemisms for cocaine and heroin. The anthem exudes confidence and celebratory feelings, describing th As they trade verses, the two artists paint vivid pictures of their respective journeys, from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of success.

“Lamborghini Doors”

In 2017, Rick Ross released the album Rather You Than Me, which included the track “Lamborghini Doors” featuring Meek Mill and Anthony Hamilton. Although a number of entries on this list include the two tackling boisterous trap production, “Lamborghini Doors” leaned into the definitive Maybach Music Sound. The lush orchestral production, paired with Anthony Hamilton’s smooth vocals, allows the two to share introspective bars reflecting on their rising status.

“What’s Free”

From Meek Mill’s Championships, “What’s Free” is a standout track featuring not only Rick Ross but also the legendary Jay-Z. While it’s a collaboration between the three artists, it’s worth mentioning for the dynamic verses delivered by Ross and Meek. Their contributions complement Jay-Z’s legendary status, making it a track that captures the essence of freedom and success in the rap game.

Mannywellz & Pink Sweat$ — “Attention” & “Better With You”

Almost six months after his Don’t Tell Anyone EP, Mannywellz returns with a pair of songs alongside Pink Sweat$. The two tracks, “Attention” and “Better With You,” are cut from a cloth closest to alté, a sound perfect for Mannywellz afrobeats and Pink Sweat$’s R&B backgrounds.

KCee — “I Pray” Feat. Oxlade

Weeks after releasing “Tuesday,” KCee checks in with “I Pray” alongside Oxlade. Together, the two singers strike up an energetic amapiano-inspired record that speaks to a higher power to thank them for their success and to protect them from the enemies that may lurk around them.

Teni — “Malaika”

Teni’s second album Tears Of The Sun arrives on November 19, and ahead of its release, she returns with “Malaika.” The third single on the project, joining “Lanke” and “No Days Off,” is built on the groove of afrobeats as Teni takes time to thank God for helping her through the ups and downs in her life.

Joeboy — “Only God Can Save Me”

In less than two weeks, Nigerian singer Joeboy will release his Body, Soul & Spirit EP. It appears to be a companion project to his second album Body & Soul, which he released back in May. During an interview with Uproxx back in May, Victony hinted at “really unique” records he had on the way. His latest single “No Joke” is seemingly the first, and it’s a groovy single that is both assertive and confident.

Minz — “Blessings”

We’re due for a project from Minz, but for now, we’ll take the singles the singer continues to deliver. “Blessings” joins “Sokoto” and a remix of “Wo Wo” as his drops in 2023, and on it, Minz takes a moment to celebrate the blessings and success that have rained on him in his life.

Morravey — Ravi

Much of the world was introduced to Nigerian singer Morravey thanks to her feature on Davido’s “In The Garden” from his Timeless album. She now steps out on her own with her debut EP Ravi. Through its five songs, Morravey shows her versatility through dance, reggae, highlife, and afro-pop records.

Tega Boi Dc — “Child’s Play” Feat. Shallipopi

If you love amapiano, Tega Boi Dc’s new record “Child’s Play” with Shallipopi is just the track for you. It comes after Tega Boi Dc’s summer record “Come For You” and after Shallipopi’s October release “Things On Things.”

Mellissa — “Henny Talk”

Ghana singer Mellissa is a name you’ve seen beside artists like Amaarae and BOJ, and now, she’s gearing up to stand out on her own with an upcoming EP. Ahead of that project, she drops “Henny Talk” which is a fun and steamy single that combines romance and a bit of liquor to show how feelings can run wild once both are combined.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
