Bear1Boss Brings A More Cohesive Take On His Avant-Garde Sound With “Bubbles”

When you think of Buffalo, New York, most would think of blue-collar people, and working for what you want. The city’s grit is evident in a lot of rappers’ music. Benny The Butcher, Conway the Machine, and Westside Gunn are just handful that embody that same energy. However, Bear1Boss is someone who totally goes against the grain. His colorful, zany, and niche sound is something that would originate somewhere out West or in some obscure city. He definitely does not color within the lines when it comes to putting together projects. That was apparent on his most recent effort SUPER BOSS!

It just sounded really rough around the edges, and it felt like something that could have dropped during the mixtape era. The random video game samples and wacky sound effects could come across as endearing to some. But for us, it was a tough listen from beginning to end. So, with Bear1Boss following up that February release with Bubbles our expectations for it being enjoyable were low.

Listen To Bubbles By Bear1Boss

Thankfully, we were pleasantly surprised by Bear1Boss on this effort. Bubbles comes across as more polished and cohesive. Hardcore fans who enjoy his intentional unfinished style may not like the cleaner approach. In our eyes though, Bear1Boss still put together some interesting hyperpop and pop rap beats without trying too hard to be goofy. His voice and flows suffice, and the listening experience was much improved this time around.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album Bubbles by Bear1Boss? Is this one of his stronger efforts as of late, why or why not? Who had the better feature? What songs are you gravitating toward the most and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Boosie Badazz Incorporates The Soul Of The South On “Boosie Blues”

Boosie Badazz is usually in the headlines these days for the honest comments about the genre, other artists, or beefs he is involved in. However, do not forget for one second how much the Louisiana native has poured into the genre musically speaking. Countless records and endless influence are have what made him a prominent figure regardless of your opinion about him. Recently, Boosie Badazz fed the streets again with a blues-inspired record, Boosie Blues.

This quickly follows up a collaboration album he did with Jit The Beast back in February. It was called In House 2: Boosie and the Beast, and it spanned 14 tracks. If you are thinking, “why is he doing a blues-esque album?” Well, this is not his first rodeo. If you go back to 2018, that year he put forth Boosie Blues Cafe.

It was a bit rough around the edges in terms of quality and some of the vocals. But on the quasi-sequel, Boosie has curated some more refined tracks. Some will still have to fight through the raspy, high-pitched cadence. However, there is some fun moments to be had.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album Boosie Blues by Boosie Badazz? Out of his now two blues-inspired records which one do you prefer and why? Which track is the best out the bunch? “F.U.N.” Continues For Slum Village On Their New Album With A Host Of Features Joining The Party

It has been a minute since we have checked back in with one of the most underrated hip-hop collectives, Slum Village. The Detroit-based group is still together all these decades later, but it has been quite some time since their last record. In fact, four years have gone by since Dirty District, Vol. 1 (Instrumentals). However, it has been even longer since we had heard an album with vocals on it. You would have to go back to 2019’s Fantastic 2020, Vol. 2. But nonetheless, we have new Slum Village material to sink our teeth into with F.U.N.

The former trio of J Dilla, Baatin, and founder T3, now shrunken down to the latter and producer YOUNG RJ, are continuing to carry on the group’s legacy. It is safe to say that they have it all under control. F.U.N. is a groovy, jazzy, and funky listen from front to back. Also making this an enjoyable time are the wide variety of features.

According to HipHopDX, the mission for Slum Village was to be bold and just have fun (pun intended) with this record. “Slum is still here. We’re still relevant and we’re still trying to push the envelope. Sometimes people put too many rules on music, and without sounding cliche, we wanted to just have fun with [this album]. So, in three words: Fuck U N****s,” T3 said.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album F.U.N. by Slum Village? Which track is the best out the bunch? Who had the best feature appearance and why? Where do you rank this project amongst the rest of their discography? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. WILLOW Is Breathtaking & Colorful On “Empathogen”

Over the course of WILLOW’s career (Willow Smith), we have seen mature greatly as an artist. She is always experimenting and pushing herself to dabble in multiple genres, sometimes on the same record. For some time, she was pursuing pop punk and post-punk sounds on efforts like <COPINGMECHANISM>. But when WILLOW came through with the lead single for empathogen, “symptoms of life” back in March, it was clear she was taking another artistic detour.

However, this path does not lead to a dead end. WILLOW shows across this 12-song foray into alternative, pop rock, and acoustic that she has plenty of room to grow. In some instances, like “down” for example, there is good chance that she was listening to some Billie Eilish to get some inspiration. But there is a lot more to like than ridicule on empathogen. The lead single still remains to be one of the project’s best, with “the fear is not real,” “false self,” “home,” and “run!” being just a handful.

Listen To Empathogen By WILLOW

Because of this deviation we talked about, WILLOW had some reservations, as many musicians do. But the great ones are willing to put themselves out there, and that was the mindset that she had shared with Popsugar. “This whole album is different from anything I’ve done, and I’m just so excited for people to hear it,” she says. “You always take a little bit of a risk, but I’m a risk-taker, what can I say?”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album empathogen by WILLOW? How do you feel about the direction that album went sonically, why or why not? Which track is the best out the bunch? Which track did she put on the most acrobatic vocal performance? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Valee & Black Noi$e Create Weird & Wonderful Energy On “Partridge” EP

Valee, veteran underground rapper hailing from Chicago, Illinois, has been ramping up production lately. His unconventional and otherworldly style was heard a bunch last year on three separate occasions in fact. The “Womp Womp” artist loves to collaborate with others and that was the case on Virtuoso, VALEEDATION, as well as CAR TOONS. Harry Fraud, MVW, Top$ide, and Trap-A-Holics were all seen alongside him, really showcasing his artistic range. Now, Valee is hopping in the booth with Nova Scotia-born and Detroit-raised producer Black Noi$e for Partridge. It is a new EP that spans just under 16 minutes and has five tracks.

If any Earl Sweatshirt fans are reading this, then you know the name Black Noi$e. He is one of the rapper’s most frequent beat crafters, but he has also worked with similar talents like Zelooperz. Even though Earl is nowhere to be found on Partridge, the connection is still there. According to Stereogum, Sweatshirt had a hand in creating the artwork for the EP with Black Noi$e, so that is a cool thing to see.

Listen To Partridge By Black Noi$e & Valee

In terms of the project itself, this is truly a unique listening experience. That barely scratches the surface of what Partridge is all about, but trust us on this one. The tone is dark and sometimes a little goofy due to Valee’s occasional gut-busting bars. Overall though, Partridge is a fun listening experience, especially for fans of more left field material.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP Partridge by Black Noi$e and Valee? Do you need more collaborative records from them in the future, why or why not? Which track is the best out the bunch? Who was more consistent across the project? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Evilgiane & Slimesito’s Chemistry Is Through The Roof On “EVILSLIME”

East coast hip-hop is extremely good hands right now and will be even later on all because of artists like evilgiane and Slimesito. The New York producer and Maryland rapper might not be on the same label, but the synergy on tracks is among some of the best in the industry. Both also do not have the most experience, but they are well beyond their years. SURF GANG and Rich Slime Global have come together for several tracks, with “DESIGNER DRUGZ” being the most recent offering. That track turned out to be the lead single for EVILSLIME, the new collaborative EP between evilgiane and Slimesito.

For “The Hillbillies” producer, this is his sixth project and second of 2024. It follows up #HEAVENSAGATE VOL. 1 which had a feature from Slimesito on “LIL WAYNE.” As for the “Mafia Business” MC, this marks his first project of the year so far. It supersedes October 2023’s Zombieland which featured 16 tracks.

Listen To EVILSLIME By Evilgiane & Slimesito

On EVILSLIME the production is very trap centric, 808 heavy, and some unconventional instrumentals pop in throughout the 11-song set. The tone is dark and it is the perfect backdrop for Slimesito’s monotone and mumbly delivery. In some way, it has a similar vibe to Metro Boomin and 21 Savage’s 2016 tape Savage Mode. Fairly simple eerie atmospheres with straightforward bars about the typical trap fare. Fans of these two should enjoy this one all the way through, as there are no true skips in our opinion.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP EVILSLIME by evilgiane and Slimesito? Do you need more collaborative records from them in the future, why or why not? Which track is the best out the bunch? Which instrumental was the strongest? Who had the best feature? Rome Streetz & Wavy Da Ghawd Come Through With Six-Track Set On “Buck 50”

Rugged lyricist from New York, Rome Streetz, is continuing to build off an impressive run in 2023 with Brooklyn producer Wavy Da Ghawd on Buck 50. This is the duo’s first project together and it comes in the form of a six-song collection that shows how in sync these two are. It might stem from the fact that these guys have developed quite the friendship. According to an interview with Throw Up, they asked Wavy Da Ghawd how they crossed paths and begain to develop chemistry.

“In 2018, when I first moved to NYC, the first rapper I met was Rome, Rim, and Sauce Heist in the same vicinity. Ever since then I engaged by giving beats to all of them and relationships were born. These guys and many more grew to be a strong faction to my career,” Wavy said. For the multi-cultural beatmaker this is his second project of the year, following an effort with Passport Rav on Bermuda Triangle.

It is also his third offering overall, so the man’s cache is still growing. However, you would not be able to tell that he is relatively new to this. Have a steady presence like Rome in the studio with you makes his job easier. Together, they have come through with a batch of songs that compete with any other rapper’s EP from this year. The meticulous and aggressive lyrics and flows from Streetz, along with the luscious boom-bap production just make sense.

Dominic Fike Gifts His Fans Songs From Recent YT Video In Form Of “14 Minutes” Project

Dominic Fike, singer, songwriter, rapper, and overall multi-hyphenate from Naples, Florida has a new album/soundtrack out called 14 minutes. This is the quick follow-up to his 2023 record Sunburn, which had a feature from rock band Weezer. It is the 28-year-old’s fourth offering overall and it just as long as the title says, 14 minutes. The other reason it is referred to as this is because it was named after a YouTube music video of the same affiliation. According to Uproxx, it sees the genre chameleon take a walk through a foggy and cloudy day on the side of a highway in Forks, Washington.

Fans were dying to get their hands on the tracks that Dominic is listening to on his stroll in an album format. Now, that time has come, and it was inevitable after Fike had a vinyl available for pre-order on his website. The video was originally teased at a random warehouse in West Hollywood on April 23, which was projected onto an 18-wheeler. During the presentation, Fike shared why he wanted to get these songs out as soon as possible.

“This is a collection of, like, eight of those songs that I really can’t stop listening to, and I can’t live without,” Fike explained. “And I just get tired of holding it back. I think that s*** is wack. I think all the s*** that people tell us… Like, wait three-to-five years in between albums and make sure when you come out with that next one, it’s gotta be f***ing nuts. I get tired of that. And so, here’s this. It’s just me running, and it’s just me making music, and that’s it.”

Jorja Smith Revamps Select Tracks From “Falling Or Flying” On Reimagined Version

The always stunning Jorja Smith was in incredible form for her sophomore record falling or flying last year. Following her 2018 debut Lost & Found, the British R&B/soul singer put forth a versatile set of 16 songs that spanned just under 44 minutes long. Tracks like “Little Things,” “GO GO GO,” and “Greatest Gift,” were among its standouts and all of them now have new versions. Jorja Smith has just come through with a falling or flying (Reimagined) project that sees her remake some stark changes to eight songs in total.

Jorja went for a more stripped-back approach, bringing a more somber tone for this version of her critically-acclaimed LP. Perhaps the most glaring deviation is on “GO GO GO.” If you remember, the original had a faster paced pop rock instrumental with an IDGAF attitude from Jorja. On the (Reimagined) rendition, the guitar is more in the background, with beautifully tragic piano keys taking centerstage.

This project was initially teased back in late April, when Smith released the updated “Greatest Gift.” Another thing worth noting is that all of the features, like Lila Ike for example, are non-existent here. According to Clash, all of these toned-down records were made with Jorja’s long-time band in London. Be sure to support this equally captivating listen of falling or flying with the links above.

DaBaby Teases Fans With 3 Pack, “GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO),” Ahead Of New Album

DaBaby, in most people’s eyes, has come out with some pretty lackluster projects for the last couple of years. It seems that the consensus, for the most part, is that KIRK was perhaps the most recent offering that had the most memorable cuts. But the Cleveland-born rapper has had a fire lit under him over the last few weeks especially with some viral freestyles over the instrumentals for “Like That” and “Get It Sexyy.” He has always flashed tremendous technical abilities on these off-the-dome sessions, but fans are waiting for an album to replicate what his earlier LPs had. It seems that GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO) has DaBaby rounding back into shape.

Fans in the comment section of his most recent Instagram post are in agreeance that the “ROCKSTAR” hitmaker is just getting ready. DaBaby announced his first album in two years a couple of days ago and teased that three songs would be coming before it. That is where GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO) comes into play. The three lead singles include “DONE TRYING,” “GHETTO SUPERSTAR FREESTYLE,” and “JUDY” with Skilla Baby.

Each one poses a different vibe, and they all offer an enjoyable experience. “DONE TRYING” sees DaBaby attack a lowkey instrumental where he gets introspective about his rap career. “GHETTO SUPERSTAR FREESTYLE” is all gas and no brakes and “JUDY” is a booty shaking anthem that is ready to dominate the summer. Be sure to check them all out above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO) by DaBaby? Do you think that he is making a valiant effort to change his style, why or why not?
