Missy Elliott Breaks New Ground With Upcoming “Out Of This World” Tour

Missy Elliott is making history. The eccentric emcee will be embarking on her first ever headlining tour in 2024, after decades of influence and chart dominance. She initially broke the news of the “Out Of This World” tour on her Instagram, along with a heartfelt statement. “Fans have been asking me to tour forever,” she explained. “So I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big.” Missy wasn’t kidding. This upcoming tour will be an absolutely star-studded event.

The “Out Of This World” tour will feature Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Timbaland. All three artists are iconic in their own right, and have been collaborating with Missy for years. The “Supa Dupa Fly” rapper has always been loyal to those around her, and she really made a point of stressing the familial angle during the tour’s planning stages. “I had to do it with family,” she added. “So get ready to be taken OUT OF THIS WORLD with me, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland! We can’t wait to share this experience with the fans.” Furthermore, the IG announcement came with a teaser video directed by Dave Meyers.

Fans who’ve seen Missy Elliott’s music videos over the years know that Meyers is responsible for the visuals for singles like “Get Ur Freak On” and “One Minute Man.” The teaser is classic Missy, with her and Busta Rhymes donning bizarre, futuristic clothing as they discuss the possibility that they’re on a different planet. The tickets for the “Out Of This World” will be available starting with a Verizon presale on April 9. Additional pre-sale options will made available throughout the week, and the general sale will begin Friday, April 12 on Missy-Elliott.com.

Missy could not have picked a better time to embark on her first headline tour. Firstly, she became the first female rapper to be nominated and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, and secondly, she’s working on new music for the first time in two decades. Timbaland will produce the upcoming album, however he told Variety that it will feature Missy dabbling in experimental Latin sounds. “People gonna eat it up,” he teased. “[It’ll connect with] a different demographic of people. Some of it has a kind of Latin feel to it, almost a Bad Bunny effect.”

It’s utterly bonkers to think that this is the case but, despite Missy Eliott‘s status as one of the undisputed GOATs of the rap world, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee has not had her own headlining tour in nearly two decades. That’s about to change, though, as the Virginia Beach legend has just announced her first-ever headlining tour, Out Of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience, which kicks off on Independence Day and will be supported by fellow groundbreaker Busta Rhymes (replacing his canceled Blockbusta Tour), frequent collaborator Ciara, and of course, her longtime production partner Timbaland.

A presale for Verizon subscribers begins Tuesday, April 9, with additional presales throughout the week. The general sale starts on Friday, April 12, at 10 am local time. You can get more information at missy-elliott.com. See below for the full tour dates.

Cardi B Unveils The Release Date For Single ‘Miami’ While Teasing A Snippet Of The Fiery Track

Cardi B is done letting anxiety get the best of her. With her long-awaited sophomore album slated to drop this year, she has a mountain of music to serve to fans. Her Missy Elliott-approvedLike What (Freestyle)” was just the start. Yesterday (March 7), Cardi took to Instagram to tease her follow-up record, “Miami.”

As a Bronx native, Cardi pulled inspiration for the tropical city for the forthcoming fiery track. From the studio, Cardi B shared an extended snippet of the record, and she’s giving major Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol. 3 energy. “Look, I see my opps linkin’ up / I’m like, ‘What in the f*ck?’ / If you scared then just say that / Ho, enough is enough / They was just in my DM’s / Ain’t no trustin’ these sluts / I’m about to call up Diamond / B*tch, knuck if you buck,” she raps.

According to the simple caption, the song will drop next Friday, March 15. Cardi B’s previous single, “Bongos,” with Megan Thee Stallion, was a take on Brazilian funk. For “Miami,” Cardi B is looking to bring back to the gritty streets of New York.

“Miami” is due out 3/15 via Atlantic Records. Find more information here.

Cardi B’s ‘Like What (Freestyle)’ Is Missy Elliott-Approved, And Missy’s Method Of Co-Signing Was Adorable

On Friday, March 1, Cardi B released her “Like What (Freestyle)” alongside a salacious Offset-directed video, putting Cardi’s rap prowess front and center. Uproxx’s Aaron Williams led this week’s “Best New Hip-Hop” with it, and Missy Elliott appears to agree with that assessment. Missy’s opinion would matter regardless, but it especially matters in this case because Cardi freestyled over a sample of Missy’s “She’s A B*tch” from her 1999 Grammy-nominated album, Da Real World.

Missy Elliott spent Friday responding to fans’ “Like What” reactions on X (formerly Twitter). She mostly replied with various Memoji stickers — the heart hands, the dancing salsa lady, a purple heart, the prayer hands — but the recent Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee had something to say to one person.

Someone going by Jus on X wrote, “Do these children really not know that it’s a freestyle to Missy Elliott’s song?? Like wtf is going on in these schools? In these homes??!! Just uncultured! lmao” Missy initially replied with another Memoji, which led to Jus writing, “Missy we gotta educate the children like it’s getting out of hand. Also, I love you and your music! You are a LEGEND! A ICON!” To that, Missy wrote, “Yes….The ones before my era taught us also.” Of course, there were two Memojis accompanying that message.

Missy also promoted”Like What” on her Instagram Story.

Cardi B Warns Female Rappers In New Missy-Elliott Sampled Song

Cardi B Hair

Cardi B has been killing the features game. But the fans need to know, when is she dropping new music?!

Don’t worry, the “Bodak Yellow” heard us clearly. Sharing to her 169 million followers on Instagram, Cardi B posted the cover art to her forthcoming single titled “Like What Freestyle.” She writes in the caption: “👀 YA FOUND ME. Like What freestyle FRIDAY 🎤

In less than 24 hours, the post has accumulated nearly one million likes. Slight work for Cardi B! The photo sees Cardi dolled up in all pink, which includes her eye makeup and eyebrows.

In addition, Cardi B shared a snippet of the new record. In the clip, she states, “Ayo, let me throw some gas on this muthafuckin’ year bitch. I ain’t really talked my shit in a minute, like ho the fuck these bitches really think they talking to? Bitch, is you fucking dumb?”

Serves as her first solo release since last year’s “Bongos” alongside Megan Thee Stallion, “Like What Freestyle” samples Missy Elliott‘s 1999 smash “She’s a Bitch.”

Sounds like Cardi B has a lot to get off her chest. Fans are even speculating she might be throwing shots at Nicki Minaj, whom she’s had an ongoing beef with for years. It looks like we’ll find out on Friday!

Cardi B Serves Look After Look In Her Lavish New ‘Like What (Freestyle)’ Video

Cardi B has her foot on the gas. Tonight (March 1), she dropped her new single “Like What Freestyle,” on which, she lets none of her opps rest.

The song features a prominent sample of Missy Elliott‘s classic 1999 single, “She’s A B*tch,” and Cardi arrives with the same eccentric and charismatic energy Missy did 25 years ago.

She delivers some of the most scorching bars of her career, as she reminds us all how quickly she can switch it up.

“Classy and a c*nt / Blocks and money gettin’ spunt / Like what? / Like a Coach bag, baby, this ain’t what you want / If I ask for it, all I wanna hear is, ‘Yes’ / B*tch said she wanna be my opp, God bless / Look, I ain’t even got dressed / Any L that I took, come after YS,” she raps on the song’s chorus.

In the accompanying video, Cardi invites us into her lavish lifestyle, as she serves several looks, and eats sushi out of a YSL bag by her pool.

The end credits reveal that the video was directed by Offset, and that more music is on the way.

“This is just the beginning…stay tuned,” reads a screen at the end of the visual.

Bardigang has been through it while waiting for Cardi B’s sophomore album, the follow-up to her Grammy-winning, record-obliterating 2018 debut, Invasion Of Privacy, and among Uproxx‘s “Most Anticipated Albums Of 2024.” On February 28, there’s reason for cautious optimism that one of hip-hop’s longest droughts is nearing an end, as Cardi B announced she will release her new freestyle “Like What” this Friday, March 1.

The diamond-certified rapper posted the song’s cover art on Instagram alongside the caption, “[eyeballs emoji] YA FOUND ME. Like What freestyle FRIDAY [microphone emoji].” Cardi also posted a snippet to her Instagram Story, in which she raps atop instrumentals from Missy Elliott’s “She’s A B**ch,” as aggregated on X below.

Cardi B’s announcement comes one day after Cardi teased a separate snippet on her since-expired Instagram Story, as captured below by MEFeater.

On February 26, Cardi B incited anticipation by blacking out all of her social media accounts, which has become the tell-tale signal that new music is coming. Cardi’s social media accounts have since been restored, but “Like What” is a promising sign that all of this could be the start of a larger album rollout.

Missy Elliott And Rapsody Led A Lineup Of Iconic Hip-Hop Women Honoring Queen Latifah At The Kennedy Center Honors

There have always been women at the forefront of hip-hop’s 50-year reign over pop culture, and perhaps none is more iconic than Queen Latifah. The “U-N-I-T-Y” rapper is widely acknowledged as one of the genre’s greatest of all time, and last night at the Kennedy Center Honors, she received loving tributes from some of her most iconic peers and proteges.

First up, Missy Elliott repaid Latifah for her touching Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction speech introduction, recalling hearing “Ladies First” for the first time as a teenager and having her life changed by Latifah’s “Queen” moniker and positive messaging.

Then, there were performances. Queen Latifah’s fellow hip-hop pioneers MC Lyte and Monie Love performed her signature hit “Ladies First,” with Lyte taking over Latifah’s verses and Monie performing her own.

Rapsody then performed one of Latifah’s best, but most underrated songs, “Just Another Day…” (Would have been cool if she performed “Hatshepsut,” the song on which they collaborated from Rap’s 2019 album Eve, but extra light being shed on the smooth Black Reign cut is never a bad thing.)

The Kennedy Center Honors simply seal a legendary legacy which includes such accolades as Grammys, Emmys, and Oscar nominations, as well as roles ranging acting to heading one of hip-hop’s first women-led labels. She is, indeed, an icon and a queen.
