Nick Cannon Put Lauryn Hill, Nicki Minaj, And Missy Elliott On His Female Rap Mount Rushmore

The Rap Mount Rushmore meme reared its head once again on the latest episode of The Bootleg Kev show as the DJ asked his guest Nick Cannon about one of the most notable names in rap.

Cannon and Kev shared their praise of Nicki Minaj, who Cannon took care to note is among the greatest of all time regardless of gender. “She’s one of the coldest artists in the last decade,” he enthused. “We can’t sleep on her skill, her pen, sonically. She changed the game. ‘Monster’? That was her record.”

As he expanded, he went a little more old-school, saying, “The only person, to me, that has the same level of talent, and that we should even be comparing her to, is Lauryn Hill or Missy Elliott. Those three, that’s the Mount Rushmore.”

The Rap Mount Rushmore meme has been a recurring theme online since it’s always good for some engagement. Within the last few years, we’ve gotten takes from the likes of Ja Rule and J. Cole, with the latter putting a tongue-in-cheek spin on things, along with reactions from the likes of the West Coast rap legends who named their group after the meme and Nicki Minaj herself. Meanwhile, Lil Baby had some fun with it for the cover of his album It’s Only Me after fans debated his inclusion in one for Atlanta rappers.

Nick Cannon’s Female Rap Mount Rushmore Includes Nicki Minaj And Missy Elliot

If there’s one thing hip-hop loves to debate, it’s the genre’s various Mount Rushmores. There’s West Coast vs. East, old school vs. new school and of course, male vs. female. The latest lyricist to share their opinion on the best of the best from artists of the opposite sex is Nick Cannon, who spoke with Bootleg Kev about which women’s faces he would have carved into the historic monument.

Unsurprisingly, Nicki Minaj was one of the first names to come up in conversation. “I think [she’s] the female GOAT,” the podcast host told his guest. “She is,” Cannon wholeheartedly agreed. “First of all, let’s not disrespect Nicki. [She’s] a GOAT, whatever her gender is. She’s one of the coldest artists in the last decade. We can’t sleep on her skill, her pen, sonically. She changed the game,” he insisted, the passion evident in his voice. “‘Monster’? That was her record,” the California native added, referring to Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy fan favourite, which also features Rick Ross.

Nick Cannon Reveals His Female Rap Mount Rushmore

“The only person, to me, that has the same level of talent, and that we should even be comparing her to, is Lauryn Hill,” Cannon went on to say, bringing the Fugees starlet into the chat. “Or Missy [Elliott],” he quickly added. “Those three, that’s the Mount Rushmore.” Kev chimed in with some thoughts on the final addition, noting, “Missy, out of the three we just named, has my favourite music… [She] had a four or five album run that was just like, ‘Jesus Christ.’ And she was working with Timbaland, and helping write for f*cking Ginuwine.”

Now that the interview is making rounds online, social media is calling Nick Cannon out for leaving several major players off his list. Among them are Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, and Queen Latifah, all of whom have been huge contributors to shaping both the culture and the music industry throughout their respective careers. Which artists would we find on your female rap Mount Rushmore? Let us know in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop news updates.

Missy Elliott’s ‘Barbie’ Movie Fantasy Was 26 Years Ahead Of The Actual Film, In Typical Missy Fashion

It may be rumored that Dua Lipa is cooking up the official theme song for the forthcoming Barbie movie. But Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame nominee Missy Elliott was living in the beloved doll’s plastic world in the late 1990s. Seeing social media go into a full-on frenzy about the release of the movie, the multi-hyphenated talent took a trip down memory lane.

Sharing a clip from her take on the Barbie-verse on Instagram, Missy wrote, “They say a Barbie movie is coming out. Well, let me bring this back one time,” referring to the official music video for her single, “BeepMe911,” featuring the R&B group 702. The video, which, as Missy proudly points out, was released 26 years ago.

“Back then, some folks clowned me, Timbaland, and Magoo, for doing a Barbie-style video. With our arms painted like joints and Tim and Magoo for having Ken hair styles. I remember crying, but I realized I was just years ahead of the game,” wrote the musician.

Barbie has long since been incorporated into the music industry in several ways, especially in hip-hop. Several artists, including Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, and Nicki Minaj, have all referenced the brand in videos, on track, and in promotional photo shoots.

The Barbie movie is set to hit theaters on 7/21. For more information, click here.

Chlöe And Missy Elliott’s ‘Told Ya’ Is Here And Fans Are ‘In Pieces’ Waiting For The Full Video

After paying tribute to the iconic producer and recording artist Missy Elliott at the 2023 Recording Academy Honors Gala, Chlöe’s collaboration with Elliott is now available across streaming platforms. The song titled “Told Ya,” featured on the singer’s debut solo album, In Pieces, is specifically aimed at the haters.

The Praise This actress tries not to address the naysayers. Well, so long as it isn’t tied to her sister Halle Bailey. But as Chlöe sings, “I thought I told you that I’m the sh*t / You must not know who you f*ckin’ with / I thought I told you that I’m the one (Uh) / All of you hoes, get up off my D (Woah) / I thought I told you that I’ma win / I thought I told you that I’m a ten / I thought I told you I never lose / I can see now that you’re listenin’,” she uses the track as her official clap back reminiscent of Kelly Rowland’s 2007 track “Like This.”

Although the official visualizer leaves much to be desired, knowing Elliott and seeing Chlöe’s series of recently released visuals, when the time does come to film an official video we’re sure they will knock it out of the park.

When discussing the inspiration behind the album’s cover, Chlöe took to Instagram to write, “I saw a photo of a porcelain doll 3 years ago, holding her heart just like this, and from then, I said this will be my album cover… that same day I also wrote ‘Heart On My Sleeve.’ The beginning of a scary and exciting journey for me,” adding, “This cover represents so much for me, down to the color of my hair when I had the red hair 1.5 years ago, it was one of the darkest times in my life that’s why I never wore it again. It reminded me too much of the pain that I was going through at that moment, and I didn’t want any reminders.”

Missy Elliott Will Pass That Dutch As A Double Dutch Champion On An Upcoming ‘Craig Of The Creek’ Episode

A rap legend is gracing Cartoon Network’s Craig Of The Creek with her voice talents next week. In a special episode of the Maryland-set animated series, Missy Elliott will voice a Double Dutch champion named Carla Frazier.

In the upcoming episode called “The Jump Off,” Craig and his friends Cannonball, Sparkle Cadet, and Diane are getting ready for a Double Dutch tournament. When Craig and his friends ask his mom for advice on entering the competition, his mom recalls a rivalry that took place with Carla years ago at a regional tournament.

“I’m so excited to be part of this Craig Of The Creek episode,” Elliott said to Billboard. “Voicing the Carla character was perfect for me as I am a huge Double Dutch fan. I hope the fans enjoy the episode!”

Craig Of The Creek‘s Instagram account teased the upcoming episode with a special sneak peek.

“The QUEEN is back at the Creek!,” read the post’s caption.

Perhaps this is a full circle moment. In an October 2020, Craig’s mom dressed up as Elliott in a costume resembling that from her 1998 video for “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” however, Craig and his friends didn’t get the reference.

You can see a clip from the upcoming episode above.
