PlayStation Showcase 2023 Recap: Mind-Blowing “Spider-Man 2” Gameplay & More

PlayStation Showcase 2023 is an event from the gaming giant that players all over the world anticipated. On May 24th, 2023, it aired in its entirety, addressing the rumors, leaks, and speculations that ran rampant before the big reveal. Typically, these showcases intend to provide gamers with a glimpse into the biggest projects. However, smaller indie games also get some shine which is equally important and often offers more niche yet enjoyable experiences for players. The showcase was simulcast across PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels ensuring gamers from all time zones could watch it live.

Thousands Tuned in for PlayStation Showcase 2023

PlayStation Showcase 2023 started streaming at 3:15 p.m. ET. The Showcase itself began at 4:00 p.m. There were already over 50,000 viewers watching 45 minutes before the show began. As 4:00 p.m. got closer, the viewer count only rose higher. By 3:50 p.m. over 180,000 people were watching. This number only included YouTube viewers. It also streamed on their official Twitch channel, content creator channels, other gaming platforms, and other countries too. Saying this event was a “big deal” would be an understatement.

Mixed Reactions To PlayStation Showcase 2023

PlayStation Showcase 2023 featured trailers for over 30 games. Those who had predictions found themselves satisfied as well as disappointed. The latter comes in the latest entries in the Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy series. However, the most anticipated reveal was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which showcased gameplay for the first time. Unfortunately, there was nothing revealed about a sequel to the universally celebrated Ghost Of Tsushima or Marvel’s Wolverine. Many viewers were disappointed that time was given to showcase Street Fighter 6 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage since so much information about the latter has already been revealed. The most surprising announcement came from something called “Project Q” which allows players to play PS5 games on-the-go. Next, there was a reveal of wireless earbuds from PlayStation that would pair well with the portable gaming device.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: The Star Of PlayStation Showcase 2023

The biggest highlight of PlayStation Showcase 2023 was the gameplay reveal for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Many players tuned in for this game specifically, which features both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Players were pleased to know that switching between the two characters could be done with the press of a button. Players who are anticipating the release of the movie Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse know this version of Peter will be in the movie. Considering the multiverse concept, maybe the game version of Miles will be in the movie, too.

Sony is Going All-In with Spider-Man Content

PlayStation Showcase 2023 reaffirmed the popularity of one of the company’s most celebrated game series, Marvel’s Spider-Man. The second game in their series, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, features songs from Jaden Smith. The first, a solo cut titled “I’m Ready” and the other is a collaborative song with Kid Cudi titled “On My Own.” Several songs from the game’s score, composed by John Paesano, pair hip-hop’s percussion with eloquent orchestral sounds. With Metro Boomin executive producing the soundtrack for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, it sounds like the creators are doing right by Miles by translating his authenticity beyond the screen. We’ll have to see how it all pans out when the movie comes out when the game comes out in the fall. What games from PlayStation Showcase 2023 are you looking forward to most? Metro Boomin Confirms “Perfect Timing 2” Album With NAV: Video

This July will mark the sixth anniversary of Metro Boomin and NAV’s Perfect Timing project, which lit things up during the summer of 2017. Among those featured on the 17-track album are Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, Offset, 21 Savage, Belly, and Gucci Mane. The most popular titles to come from the release are “Held Me Down,” “Call Me,” and “Minute,” all of which have remained in rotation for years since as fans of the Canadian lyricist and Atlanta-based producer await news of a follow-up.

Thankfully, it finally came our way this past weekend at Montréal’s Metro Metro Festival. During NAV’s set, he continued his recent tradition of surprising concertgoers with special guests. While he recently brought out Travis Scott, Lola Brooke, and Meek Mill in Toronto, his latest audience got to see him reunite with the HEROES & VILLAINS hitmaker, at which time they promised Perfect Timing 2 is on the way, though no further details were given at the time.

Fat Joe, Ludacris, Nas, Metro Boomin And More Artists Congratulated Carmelo Anthony On His NBA Retirement

Carmelo Anthony formally announced his retirement from the NBA after beginning his career as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft for the Denver Nuggets — the same draft that saw LeBron James go No. 1.

Melo’s impact was celebrated throughout the music world upon his announcement. Melo’s comments section was predictably full of love from the likes of Juicy J (“Congrats mane!”), Lloyd Banks (“Thanks for everything you’ve done for basketball,” and Rapsody (five rose emojis).

“We’ll done [sic] brother we’ll done [sic] @carmeloanthony Congratulations you deserve all the glory,” Fat Joe wrote to caption an Instagram photo of Anthony during his New York Knicks years.

Nas narrated and reposted an Instagram reel made alongside Jumpman — Fabolous reposted the same reel to his Instagram Story alongside, “Congrats on a hell of a career” — and Metro Boomin simply posted a throwback photo of Nuggets-era Melo posting up the late Kobe Bryant:

King James might be joining Anthony in retirement sooner than previously assumed after the Los Angeles Lakers were swept out of the 2023 NBA Playoffs by the Nuggets last night, May 22. But for now, it’s about Melo, who ironically last appeared on an NBA court as a Laker during the 2021-22 season.

“I remember the days when I had nothin’ — just a ball on the court and a dream of something more — but basketball was my outlet,” the 10-time All-Star and future Hall Of Famer said in a video posted to Instagram on May 22. “My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I represented the pride, and the fans that supported me along the way. I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me Carmelo Anthony.”

He continued, “But now the time has come for me to say goodbye. To the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride. With this bittersweet goodbye to the NBA, I’m excited about what the future holds for me.”

Anthony also explained that he believes his legacy is “more than basketball” and will live on through his son. The video was soundtracked by “All That I Got Is You” by Ghostface Killah featuring Mary J. Blige.

Metro Boomin Teases Potential Future Collab Album Cover

Metro Boomin is easily the biggest producer in the world right now. Overall, his Heroes & Villains album was one of the best-performing projects of 2022. Moreover, he always seems to secure features from the best artists. They know what he can do with his production, and he continues to blow people away. That was especially true over the last two weekends at Coachella. Metro’s sets were some of the highlights of the entire weekend, and he teased a bunch of new music.

For instance, Metro Boomin continues to make mention of a potential album between himself and none other than Future. Prior to Heroes & Villains, it had actually been quite some time since they had teamed up. However, it appears as though they are back on their grind. The name for this album is reportedly going to be Metro Pluto. Overall, this is the perfect name for the project, and we’re sure fans agree. Today on his Instagram story, Metro continued to tease the album, with some potential cover art.

Metro Boomin Knows How To Build Hype

In the album cover, you can see how both artists appear to be on fire. Future is on the mic, while Metro Boomin is on the keys. Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether or not this is the actual album cover. Although, the Parental Advisory label on the cover definitely tells us a story. Perhaps the album is actually on the way a lot sooner than many had originally believed. However, there is no exact indication as to when this album will drop. No matter what, it is crystal clear that fans want to see this, and fast. It has been a slow start to the year in terms of releases, and that promises to change, very soon.

Hopefully, Metro Boomin and Future provide more clarity on this upcoming project, soon. Overall, it would have to be one of the most hyped-up projects of the entire year. Moreover, we can only imagine what kind of features would be on here. Let us know your expectations for the project, in the comments below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from around the music world.

Metro Boomin Returns to Coachella Weekend 2 with More ‘Heroes & Villains’

Metro Boomin Returns to Coachella Weekend 2 with More 'Heroes & Villains'

Over the weekend, Metro Boomin performed on the Coachella stage for the second time while completely covered in Chrome Hearts. He was joined by a distinguished cast of new and returning ‘heroes and villains’ to close off night two of the festival.

The Weeknd, Future, Don Toliver, and Offset appeared to the Sahara Tent in full force to sing their Metro-produced finest and latest hits, as well as tracks from the superhero producer’s most recent album and other tunes. A ballad of classics by The Weeknd was performed, including the recently released Metro Boomin-executive produced the song “Double Fantasy (with Future)”. Along with his huge discography, Metro gave listeners access to timeless trap songs like “Ric Flair Drip,” “Bad and Boujee,” “Waves,” “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1,” and others.

HEROES & VILLAINS, which was released last fall, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, Top Rap Albums Chart, and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, giving him his third consecutive number-one position on each of the aforementioned charts. It also produced over 2.5 billion streams and counting, surpassing 185K in total first-week consumption, which was his biggest seven-day total to date.

The Weeknd Has Safety Scare During Coachella Weekend 1

Coachella 2023 has been a bit of a mess. This has primarily revolved around Frank Ocean’s sudden departure due to a leg injury. That has left Coachella scrabbling to replace him and find a use for the giant ice rink they had built for Ocean’s set. It’s a prominent blemish on the festival’s usually spotless resume.

The festival’s second weekend kicked off on Friday night, headlined by a hyped closing set from Bad Bunny. Weekend’s 2 Saturday lineup is anchored by the likes of BLACKPINK, Charli XCX, and Eric Prydz. However, people are once again talking about Weekend 1 thanks to new footage concerning The Weeknd. While not as dramatic as the Frank Ocean debacle, it does raise some questions about safety at Coachella.

The Weeknd Dodges Pyrotechnics

The Weeknd is not performing at Coachella 2023. However, the artist made a surprise during Friday’s Metro Boomin set. Boomin and The Weeknd linked up so that The Weeknd could drop his verse from Future’s 2016 hit “Low Life”. However, as The Weeknd encouraged the crowd to sing along, a large pyrotechnic display ignited near the performer. The Weeknd, surprised by the sudden burst of flame, took a visible step back and could be heard saying “whoooo”. However, the Canadian performer was unharmed and finished out the performance in style. Metro Boomin was closing out the Sahara stage at the time. He holds the same set in Weekend 2.

Overshadowed by the Ocean drama, the moment resurfaced April 21, when an account tweeted out the clip with the caption, “Be careful Abel”. The clip spread yet further when The Weeknd himself retweeted it, adding in a quote tweet “ALMOST COOKED ME.” The Weeknd’s tweet has received nearly 51,000 likes and nearly 800 comments. There is no word if The Weeknd will be returning to the festival for Weekend 2. However, if he does, he will be sure to keep a closer out for big columns of fire. But this does raise an important question – what’s going on at Coachella? This was the potential for a second major injury to a second major star in the same weekend. Regardless, Coachella runs until Sunday, April 23.
