Caitlin Clark & Iowa Seemingly Gifted Big Ten Title As Maryland Stuns Ohio State

Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes are now heavy favorites to win the Big Ten’s automatic bid to March Madness. The major obstacle in the team’s way was conference regular-season champions Ohio State. However, the Buckeyes were stunned in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament by eight-seeded Maryland, who had gone 9-9 in the conference regular season. Prior to the upset victory in Minneapolis, Maryland had lost both their games to the Buckeyes this season. The Buckeyes looked nothing like the two-loss team that had dominated the Big Ten all year as the lost by 22 to the Terrapins. Junior Shyanne Sellers had a game-high 25 points for Maryland.

Furthermore, a deep run by Iowa, who have won back-to-back conference tournaments, should secure the Hawkeyes a No. 1 seed for March Madness. However, they need to avoid being upset themselves. Their journey to the conference final sees them take on Penn State and the winner of Michigan/Indiana. If they reach the final, they will face Maryland, Nebraska, or Michigan State.

Caitlin Clark Focused On Iowa, Not WNBA

Meanwhile, Despite declaring for the WNBA last week, Clark is focused solely on the rest of her time at Iowa. “Obviously, my focus is here. My goal is to win a national title, that’s plain and simple. And to be honest, I’m not really looking that far ahead to the WNBA.” Clark said. Furthermore, Clark said that she announced her decision so it didn’t distract from the regular-season finale against Ohio State. “They need to be celebrated the same way that I will be. I want it to just be a celebration of what we’ve been able to give to this program and what we’ve been able to do,” Clark said of her teammates.

Furthermore, Clark said that she is simply looking forward to seeing out the rest of her college career. “And I think that’s my biggest focus going into the rest of the year: Just smile, have fun, play free. That’s really when I play my best basketball, so I’m excited,” Clark said.

Beyonce Pays To Extend Metro Hours, Helping Fans Commute Home From Renaissance Tour

Beyonce paid to extend metro service hours in Maryland to help fans commute home from shows at FedEx Field on her Renaissance Tour over the weekend. The move came after Gov. Wes Moore proclaimed Sunday, August 6th to be “Beyonce Day” in the state.

Beyonce’s show on Sunday was delayed nearly two hours for a shelter-in-place order regarding severe weather. She decided to drop approximately $100,000 to extend the transit hours so that the show could go on. Beyonce kept all 98 stations open for customers to exit, and paid for other operational expenses as well.

As for the celebration of Beyonce Day, Moore made the announcement in a video on social media. He explained: “Beyonce Knowles-Carter has not only captivated the world with her irreplaceable talent, she continues to ring the alarm about putting love on top. From BeyGood’s Black Parade, traveling across more than 10 cities to support small businesses to her advocacy, her social justice and freedom, Beyonce has shown us that using one’s platform can truly make a difference. It is my joy to extend a warm Maryland welcome to Beyonce as she graces us with her presence at FedEx Field in Landover.” Check out the full post on Twitter below.

Wes Moore Proclaims August 6th As Beyonce Day

Beyonce is set to continue performing across North America on the Renaissance World Tour through October. She still has shows scheduled in Atlanta, Inglewood, Vancouver, Houston, and several more cities. She’s been making various headlines through the run of shows, most recently for etching Lizzo’s name off the remix to “Break My Soul.” The move came following a lawsuit filed against Lizzo accusing her of sexual harassment and workplace hostility. Beyonce also recently responded to Erykah Badu’s accusation that she’s copied her iconic style.

50 Cent & Fat Joe Sued By Producer For Copyright

With the Ed Sheeran copyright infringement lawsuit now underway, it’s quite the dark and dangerous time for musical creativity. Now, another lawsuit in that vein hit the rap world, this time holding 50 Cent and Fat Joe as the culprits. Moreover, Maryland-based producer David W. Smith claimed that the 2000s hits “Candy Shop” and “Lean Back” ripped off his work. Furthermore, he pointed to a collaboration with rapper Moe Wet titled “WHACHACOM4?,” released in 2003, in his lawsuit filed last Thursday (April 27). According to Music Business Worldwide, the copyright infringement lawsuit compares the three tracks’ musical notations and waveforms to make its case.

Of course, both accused songs were among the biggest rap singles of that decade, with both topping the Billboard Hot 100. “Lean Back” by Fat Joe and Terror Squad achieved gold status, whereas “Candy Shop” by 50 Cent is certified five times platinum. In addition to those two MCs, the suit named fellow Terror Squad rapper Remy Ma and producer Scott Storch, who worked on both tracks, as defendants. Also, the complaint alleges that these actors “made millions of dollars from their exploitation.”

50 Cent & Fat Joe Allegedly Stole From This Song

What’s more is that Storch and Smith allegedly had similar connections to record pools in New York City that would’ve allowed for overlap. Specifically, the suit named Spinners Unlimited Record Pool (S.U.R.E.), Top Upward Sizzlers (Prime Movers), and New & Hot S.U.R.E. Shots. Another claim Smith brought forward is that he and Storch both “received weekly communications as to the performance of releases on their respective labels.” The suit also clarifies that they secured copyright for “WHACHACOM4?” on April 22, 2022, yet it doesn’t explain why it took so long for them to do so. Smith sought royalties from each track, as well as damages and legal fees in the lawsuit.

Meanwhile, Fat Joe and 50 Cent were actually rivals when these accused tracks came out, engaging in a public spat at the 2005 Video Music Awards. In fact, that feud resulted in the Terror Squad boss losing a $20 million endorsement deal with Air Jordan. Regardless, now they have a front to unite against, and it will be interesting to see if this sets a precedent for future cases. For the latest updates on Fat Joe and 50 Cent, stick around on HNHH.

redveil Closes Year With Wavy New Single, “2daside”

After an incredible breakout year, one of hip-hop’s most exciting new talents closed 2022 with a bang. redveil just dropped his latest single “2daside,” which is a synthy and bouncy celebratory cut. Moreover, it’s a fresh, youthful, and soulful take on trap and East Coast strains of hip-hop, combining introspection with raw energy. Also, it’s sure to please fans of one of this year’s best albums, specifically his third: learn 2 swim, where he honed that style.

Instrumentally, “2daside” employs some of the 18-year-old MC’s most engaging production techniques. Breezy synth melodies with varying timbres and textures, crisp and sharp trap percussion, and a generally submerged sound. Also, it’s infused with nostalgia, creativity, and soulful fun in the same way that his best tracks like “pg baby” function. While that nostalgia can sometimes come across as melancholy in his catalog, this new track sounds ironically summery.

Meanwhile, the Prince George’s County, Maryland native delivers a short but impassioned performance. Moreover, the track isn’t even two and a half minutes long, and yet redveil’s energy comes through infectiously. Lyrically, he seems to focus on his skill and authenticity as a rapper, saying he only cares about the love people have for him. As he continues to provide wisdom and maturity beyond his years (and most people’s, frankly), he delivered some of the year’s best material.

What did you think of redveil’s new single, “2daside”? Moreover, have you checked out his other material and features?
