Marlon Wayans Shares Tribute After Father Howell Wayans Passes Away

Howell Wayans, the patriarch of the Wayans family, passed away at age 86, and the pop culture world is mourning his loss. Moreover, a touching tribute emerged on Instagram courtesy of his son, actor and comedian Marlon Wayans. Although these grapples with grief are always hard to work through, Marlon posted a beautiful message in honor of his father. Furthermore, many fans sent their love in the comments and expressed their heartbreak and reflective state after reading his words. With his post, the New York native gave a heartwarming and highly personal account of who his father is, and what he means in his life.

“Legend,” he began his caption simply, posting a picture of him beside Howell as his father kisses him on the forehead. “When i was a child I asked my Dad ‘what did you want to be when grew up?’ He simply said ‘I wanted to be a man.’ I said ‘not a lawyer? A doctor? An actor?’ He said ‘just a man.’ I said ‘but every boy becomes a man.’ Dad said ‘Not true.’ I asked ‘then what’s a man?’ My Dad said ‘A man takes care of himself and his responsibilities. His family is always FIRST.‘ From that day on I wanted to be a MAN.

“Thank you Pop for being an example of a Man to all your boys,” he continued. “I pray all young black boys can grow up to be a Man like you. Baby boy loves you. And if ever i need you i know exactly where to find you… in my Bible that now sits by bed. Rest well. Kiss Ma for me. Tell her her babies miss her. I got two angels. I feel y’all lifting me already. If there’s a heaven i know you sitting in VIP sippin’ the best wine jesus can make…

Meanwhile, the Wayans family will reflect on these themes of fatherhood and the bond with a son in other ways. For example, Damon Wayans Sr. and Jr. worked on a comedy pilot recently, centered around a father-son relationship. Given the pain such a loss brings about, surely they will honor the patriarch’s legacy and the lessons he left behind, in ways big and small. Omar Epps & Marlon Wayans Reminisce Over 2Pac’s Out Of Pocket “Juice” Prank

On The Daily Show, Omar Epps and guest host Marlon Wayans talked about 2Pac and recalled a prank that the rapper had performed during the filming of Juice. It had made Epps super mad at the time, but he now laughs back at it. They spent most of the segment talking about their history together as friends, and a little bit about Epps’ new book. Epps and Wayans were friends since childhood. At first, they did not like each other. However, after they fought each other and learned that they had the same fighting style, they became best friends.

Juice was Tupac’s second movie. The first was Dan Akyroid’s 1991 Nothing But Trouble. However, he was only a background character in that movie, so it does not really count. People had high hopes for Tupac’s acting career, with some even saying that he was a better actor than he was an actor. He would continue on to appear in five more movies and two tv episodes, before his passing in 1996, something that J. Prince believes could have been prevented.

2Pac’s Jokester Ways

Wayans explains that Tupac had a penchant for pranking the cast members. One time, Epps had fallen asleep with his mouth open, so Tupac pulled out his testicles and put them near his mouth. Epps admits he was very mad about it at the time, but he now finds it funny. He even admits that it would have gone viral if the internet was as massive back then as it is today. He also tells Wayans that he would be upset too if he woke up to find somebody’s testicles near his mouth.

2Pac was a big jokester. It does not matter when or where he was. He was always willing to play jokes on people. DJ Quik had this to say about him during a recent interview. “Outside of the studio, he was a jokester – bagging on n-ggas, joking, fun. We toured a little bit. He got in my ass one time too. We were about to get into a fight because he thought I was stealing his stage show — like when he would rap and jump up on the speakers.”

Marlon Wayans On Making An Hour-Long HBO Special About Will Smith And Chris Rock’s “Slapgate”

Over a year may have passed since Will Smith infamously slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards. Yet, the internet can’t help but continue the discussion. Most recently, Marlon Wayans made the “slapgate” controversy a central point in his March 2nd HBO special, God Loves Me. During this hour-long special, the comedian dedicates his stage time to discussing Rock and Smith, both of whom he considers to be buddies. Ultimately, his set goes far beyond just the shock of the confrontation and dives deep into comedy, mental health, and working in an industry dominated by white males.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the 50-year-old explains why he chose “slapgate” as his topic for the special. He notes how he had witnessed the ordeal, and discussed the aftermath at a show in Oxnard just a few days later. Although his thoughts initially amounted to a five-minute set, it quickly turned into 15 minutes. “I kept exploring the truth and it became like a Rubik’s cube to me,” Wayans explained. “I got one side. That’s the Chris Rock side. I got what’s my experience with Jada, and then what’s my experience with Will. What’s my experience in the industry? What’s my experience as a Black person? What do white people feel? Before I knew it, I had an hour of material.”

Wayans Refers To Smith and Rock As Friends

The White Chicks star also spoke on his connection to Smith, Rock, and Pinkett-Smith. His friendship with the involved parties made him question all perspectives on the matter. When asked what if he included either Smith’s or Rock’s involvement during the creation of this special, Wayans answered no. “I just hope they gauge and trust that I love them,” he reflected. “That I’m being objective. I’m being honest. I’m being real. And that the purpose of this is more healing than it is deconstruction.”

Throughout the interview, Wayans jumps from a variety of heavy topics but doesn’t avoid displaying his respect for both actors. He notes Smith as the ultimate image of a Black man in Hollywood who refuses to fall into labels and refers to Rock as an inspiration. “He’s just a brilliant mind and a brilliant comedian, Wayans reflects. “The Daily Show” Reveals Its Next Slate Of Guest Hosts

Comedy Central has confirmed and set dates for the next five guest hosts at The Daily Show. Per Comedy Central, guest hosts have been holding weekly residencies on the program since Trevor Noah exited the show on December 8, 2022. Chelsea Handler is hosting the show this week. This is only her most recent late-night guest hosting gig after she filled in for Jimmy Kimmel in June of 2022. Sarah Silverman is set to host The Daily Show next week, on February 13.

As for the now extended list of comedians hosting The Daily Show, it is full of talent and obvious hilarity. Hasan Minhaj (The Patriot Act) will cover the week of February 27. After that, Marlon Wayans (White Chicks) will take the following week of March 6. Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar go to White Castle) will host the week of March 13. Al Franken (Saturday Night Live) will take on the week of March 20, and John Leguizamo (Violent Night) will host the week of March 27. Comedy Central will announce dates for more guest hosts, including The Daily Show correspondents and contributors, in the next few weeks.

Comedy Central is keeping an open mind in terms of who will succeed Noah as permanent host, according to Deadline. Also, the network is considering hosting duos and trios. Particularly, Comedy Central is considering some of the Daily Show correspondents for the promotion, possibly even in a team of hosts for the show. For instance, Roy Wood Jr. and Desi Lydic are being considered as a hosting duo. Other correspondents include The show’s other correspondents include Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Dulcé Sloan, and reporter Jordan Klepper.

The switch to a duo or group cast would give The Daily Show a unique edge in daily late-night television. Moreover, this would also give the show a fresh look as it has historically only held one host (John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, then Trevor Noah). It would give The Daily Show a Saturday Night Live ‘Weekend Update’ energy that fans of late-night television generally adore. Whatever the permanent solution ends up being, the permanent host (or hosts) will start in the fall of 2023.

Marlon Wayans Says He Reached Out to Will Smith After Oscars Slap: “You Need To Sit Down With a Therapist”

Marlon Wayans has been famous for a long time but will admit that he doesn’t have the pressure of his friend Will Smith. While sitting in an interview with Big Boy in promotion of his new HBO special The Headliners, Marlon revealed he called Will Smith after the infamous slap.

Wayans stated he thinks 30 years of pressure got to Smith at the moment and snapped. Wayans advocated to “check on your strong friends,” which is what he did via phone call.

“I was like, ‘Hey brother you may want to go get you about three hours of therapy,’” Wayans said. “’You need to sit down with a therapist and have a long talk. Something is going on with you.’ And that wasn’t him. See, I don’t have that kind of pressure. He’s been Black excellence for 30 years, I’ve been Black alrightness, ain’t too much pressure. People expect me to do dumb stuff, but him? Nah, not Will.”

Wayans also believed that Smith’s slap to Rock was counterproductive beyond his own career and will allow for more jokes to be made about Jada Pinkett Smith. “Everybody got a Will Smith-Chris Rock, you know, Jada joke,” Wayans said.

Wayans says he also spoke with Chris Rock to make sure that he was doing well. You can hear Marlon Wayans dive into the subject and more below.
