Mariah Carey’s brother, Morgan Carey, has intensified his legal battle against the pop icon, now seeking to subpoena Oprah Winfrey as part of his defamation lawsuit over claims made in Mariah’s 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

The U.S. Sun reports that Morgan filed court papers in Los Angeles on December 13, demanding that the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) produce a range of materials related to Mariah’s interviews and book promotion. The documents request “all communications, emails, unedited videos, and documents” involving Mariah, her memoir, and related interviews. OWN has been given a deadline of January 16, 2025, to comply.

The subpoena specifically mentions interviews Mariah has given over the years, including her 2020 appearance on The Oprah Conversation to promote The Meaning of Mariah Carey. At the time, Oprah expressed her admiration for Mariah, writing on social media:

“I may not have known the words back then, but after 10 interviews together, I now know the FULL meaning of @MariahCarey. On this episode of #TheOprahConversation, the world’s most fascinating star speaks her truth for the first time in her memoir #TheMeaningOfMariahCarey.”

Morgan’s suit, filed in 2021, alleges that Mariah’s memoir contains “false and defamatory” statements about him, damaging his reputation. In the book, Mariah recounts her tumultuous childhood and complicated family dynamics, which she claims influenced her career and personal struggles.

The recent court filing also targets OWN’s agreements and communications with individuals tied to the memoir, including co-author Micaela Angela Davis, Andrew Cohen, and Tyler Perry. Topics for deposition reportedly include “the authenticity and source of all documents” and OWN’s promotion of the book.

Mariah and Morgan’s strained relationship has been a recurring theme in public interviews. Notably, Mariah appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1999 with her mother, Patricia, to discuss her childhood and her relationships with siblings Morgan and Alison Carey.

Morgan’s lawsuit remains ongoing, with the latest development potentially pulling Oprah into the spotlight to provide testimony. Whether this move will yield the evidence Morgan seeks remains to be seen, but the legal battle underscores the ongoing discord within the Carey family.

Rihanna Got Her Boob Signed By Mariah Carey At Carey’s Final ‘Christmas Time’ Tour Date

We know pretty definitively what Mariah Carey wants for Christmas, as she’s been singing about it for 30 years now. As for Rihanna, we may not know exactly what she desires, but we do know what she got: Carey’s signature, right on her breast.

As seen in this video, Rihanna was at the show when she got Carey’s attention and got her signature in red Sharpie on her left breast. As Carey signed, Rihanna said, “Wow, this is iconic.” She then grabbed the mic and told the audience, “Mariah Carey is signing my tit, y’all.”

Rihanna has long been a Carey fan: In 2015, she said, “I was always drawn to music and singing. Bt the time I was eight, I knew I wanted to sing. I loved Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Bob Marley. I would watch their videos all day long on TV because that’s what they would play in the Caribbean. I would start mimicking everything I heard, everything Mariah did, I would try to do.”

When Rihanna was 15 years old, she even covered Carey’s “Hero” while performing at a pageant.

Rihanna also wouldn’t mind linking up with Billie Eilish, who she recently called her “dream collaborator” in an interview.

Mariah Carey Has Tied Lil Nas X For A Streaming Record With Their Signature Songs

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” has become Mariah Carey’s unofficial signature song as a result of its popularity around the holidays (and her willingness to play into the jokey fervor surrounding her “Queen Of Christmas” persona). And now, it’s a record-making — and potentially record-breaking — hit, as it has tied another artist’s signature song for most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Streaming Songs chart. With 20 weeks at No. 1, it has equalled Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” a record set in 2019, just six years after the chart’s inception in 2013.

According to Billboard, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has hit No. 1 during December of every year since 2019 — when the Mariah meme first took off — except for 2023, when Brenda Lee came back for the “Queen Of Christmas” crown with “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” and led for nearly the entire month.

Meanwhile, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” also holds No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which incorporates sales, streaming, and radio. It’s become the best-selling holiday song in the US, the longest-running holiday chart-topper, and the first song in the chart’s history to reach the top spot in at least three separate chart runs. Earlier this month, it was certified 16× Platinum by the RIAA — after becoming the first holiday song with a Diamond plaque for 10 million units sold in 2021. Long live the Queen.

It Was TIMMMMEEE!!! For A Brawl At Mariah Carey’s Baltimore Christmas Concert

Mariah Carey has performed 14 Christmas tours to celebrate her mega-hit “All I Want For Christmas.” A fight occurring at her show has been unheard of until now. TMZ said the singer’s Baltimore stop included multiple brawls on Saturday night (Dec. 7). At the CFG Bank Arena, Carey’s performance was shared with brawls erupting throughout the show on social media. Witnesses say a fight involving four to five individuals broke out after someone threw a drink, escalating into a full-blown altercation. Onlookers report that security swiftly intervened, separating those involved and escorting them out of the venue.

Mariah Carey began her holiday tour after the loss of her mother and sister. Baltimore police confirmed they received no reports of an assault, suggesting the arena’s private security managed the situation internally. The cause of the clash remains unclear. Despite the commotion, Carey carried on with her performance, maintaining her trademark poise and charm. Fans seemed unfazed by the disruption, immersing themselves in the singer’s festive setlist.

Fights Break Out At Mariah Carey’s Christmas Concert In Baltimore

This marks the second recent brawl during Carey’s holiday tour. At her St. Louis show, tensions flared when one woman shoved another from behind, prompting a retaliatory drink toss. The altercation intensified when a male companion joined in, shouting and lunging at one of the women involved. Security also stepped in to defuse that situation. While such incidents have momentarily marred the cheerful atmosphere of her concerts, Carey’s ability to rise above the drama and deliver a captivating performance underscores her enduring professionalism. As the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas continues her tour, fans hope the holiday spirit prevails over such disruptions.

Mariah Carey’s Christmas Time tour ends on December 17 in Brooklyn. While majority of her social media promotes the holiday, the singer took a moment to acknowledge the loss of legendary musician Quincy Jones when he passed in November. In a post, she wrote, “A legend, a titan, a mentor. You’ve given the world, and me, so many life-defining moments that will be forever cherished. Rest in Power, sir Quincy Jones.”

Today, Mariah Carey and Vevo debut a new episode of Footnotes, taking viewers behind the scenes of “All I Want for Christmas (Make My Wish Come True Edition)” video, celebrating the 30th anniversary of one of the most iconic and commercially successful holiday songs ever. In this installment, Carey and music video director Joseph Khan revisit the making of this beloved holiday classic.

The video was designed to recreate the glamour of Busby Berkeley’s legendary films and pay tribute to Hollywood’s golden age of musicals. Kahn aimed to make the definitive Christmas music video and admits he was starstruck when Mariah walked onto set. Mariah shares that working with the dancers and figuring out how to blend in with them was the most challenging part of filming, admitting that dancing is not her forte. The Busby Berkeley inspired sequence, featuring dancers on platforms behind Mariah, took hours to film because they had to do multiple passes and many different angles.

The video features several special guests, including Mykal-Michelle Harris, who represents a young version of Mariah. Carey praised the young star for her vibrant personality, stating, “She represents little me and all the kids who love Christmas!” Mariah’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan, also make cameos, dancing throughout the video, while her beloved pup, Cha Cha, continues the tradition of pet appearances following in the paw prints of her dogs Jack and Princess from the original video. The video also includes a special appearance by Kahn’s daughter, Josie, as the angelic girl popping out of a present.

This video comes on the heels of the 30th Anniversary of Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas, which has sold 18 million copies worldwide. The Christmas Classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” is the all-time best-selling Christmas single by a female artist and one of the top-selling physical singles in music history. In 2023, the song broke #1 on the Hot 100 for the 5th straight year and has spent a total of 14 weeks at #1! The official music videos that have been released for “All I Want For Christmas Is You” have amassed over 1.5 BILLION views.

Mariah Carey Thinks It Would Be ‘Cool’ To Collaborate With Olivia Rodrigo, But There Is One Thing Supposedly Holding It Up

Mariah Carey is adorably referred to as the unofficial “Queen of Christmas.” but that isn’t her only professional nickname crowning. The “Always Be My Baby” singer is also known as the “Queen of Pop.”

Instead of sitting away locked in her royal palace (or famed New York City penthouse) reflecting on her past record, Carey is actively expanding her discography with loads of collaborations. During a recent appearance on Buzzfeed‘s The Puppy Interview, Mariah Carey revealed which fellow pop acts she would love to join forces with next.

“I think it could be fun to collaborate with Olivia Rodrigo,” she said.

Over the past several years, Mariah has hit the booth for multiple tracks with Brandy, Muni Long, Ariana Grande, and even Uproxx cover star Latto. So working with Olivia Rodrigo isn’t left field for Mariah.

But the collaboration might have been encouraged by another mastermind, Mariah’s daughter. “[Monroe] is a really big fan, and we went to her concert,” she said. “That was great.”

However, as badly as fans of the two songwriters want this collaboration to happen this is one thing holding it up according to Mariah. Later in the sit-down, Mariah hinted that Olivia is currently on a work break until 2025, saying: “But I know she’s not working for the rest of the year.”

The Lambs and Livies will surely circle back to this wishlist item in the new year.

Just in time for the holiday season, Madame Tussauds New York has unveiled a stunning new wax figure of Mariah Carey, the legendary “Queen of Christmas” and top-selling female artist. Mariah Carey Agrees With Chappell Roan’s Viral Thoughts On Being Famous: It Is ‘Not Fun’

Not to age her, but Mariah Carey has been a household name since before I was born. Still, the “Always Be My Baby” singer never seemed to express any disdain with her global notoriety.

During a sit down with AP, Carey discussed her continuous domination of the holiday season. But when asked about thoughts on Chappell Roan expressing her frustrations with fame, Mariah Carey shockingly agreed.

“Well, I have been through my share of dramas,” she said. “It’s not fun because you grow up thinking, ‘I want to be famous.’ I mean, really with me, it was always, ‘I want to be a singer. I want to write songs.”

Carey then went on to admit that she was exactly opposed to obtaining fame. “But ‘I want to be famous’ was right there with it,” she said. “I feel like it was probably because I didn’t feel like I was good enough on my own because of the things I went through growing up. And that’s not a good way to feel, you know?”

Although Carey has found a way to balance life both with everyone watching, Chappell Roan hasn’t quite mastered that same skill. On September 27, Chappell Roan decided to cancel her appearance at All Things Go Festival 2024, citing being “overwhelmed” as the reasoning.
