Lucy Daye Drops A Sexy, Slow-Mo Jam With “That’s You”

There are tons of incredible voices in the R&B genre. Unfortunately for Lucky Daye, most people are not hip to his blends of throwback and contemporary sounds. Well, now is your chance to finally give the Louisiana native’s music a try. He is back with a brand-new single, “That’s You.” It has been quite a while since he has put out a new song that is separate from soundtracks or features. The last time Lucky put out a true track that had no connection to anyone or anything was back on February 18, 2022, with the remix version of “NWA” with Lil Durk.

In the meantime, he has done some work for the latest Magic Mike movie with “Careful.” As for the most recent album, Lucky Daye released the deluxe verison of his 2022 album, Candydrip. That was nominated for the “Best R&B Album” at the 2023 Grammy Awards. With all of that success backing him, hopefully, he will be nearing the release of another album. He may be on pace to do that now with this new song.

Listen To “That’s You” From Lucky Daye

Lucky Daye had some ties with the group Silk Sonic, which features the talents of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. Namely with the making of the duo’s highly-successful LP, An Evening With Silk Sonic. That is what most likely led to “That’s You.” It has a very similar sexy vibe and Bruno even has a major hand in the production. Lucky might have another hit with this one.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song from Lucky Daye, “That’s You?” Is this the best song that Lucky has ever put out? Are we bound to get a new album soon? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Lucky Daye Releases New Single “That’s You” Co-Written and Co-Produced by Bruno Mars

Lucky Daye Releases New Single "That’s You" Co-Written and Co-Produced by Bruno Mars

R&B sensation Lucky Daye is making a triumphant return with his latest single, “That’s You,” co-written and co-produced by none other than the 16-time GRAMMY award-winning artist Bruno Mars.

Accompanying the single is the official music video for “That’s You,” shot in Lucky Daye’s hometown of New Orleans and directed by Nick Walker. The video delves into supernatural themes as it follows Lucky through the local streets, where he encounters beautiful women who become offerings to the siren woman who holds his heart captive. The video’s cinematic and introspective approach adds depth to the song’s exploration of themes like lust and desire.

Lucky Daye, known for his soulful sound and lyrical prowess, teamed up with Nick Walker to conceptualize the video’s treatment and creative elements. The collaboration has resulted in a visually stunning and emotionally resonant music video that complements the artistry of “That’s You.”

Lucky Daye Is A Sexy Succubus’ Familiar In His Steamy ‘That’s You’ Video

Halloween may be over, but Lucky Daye‘s video for “That’s You” keeps the spooky season going just one more day. In it, Lucky plays the hapless familiar to a sexy succubus in his native Louisiana, going out into the New Orleans streets to seduce women to bring back for her to feed from. Each would-be romantic encounter ends with Lucky’s mistress taking his latest love interest back to her bedroom, then taking their souls. Throughout, Lucky’s face betrays his ambivalent feelings about this arrangement, and the video ends with him covering up the evidence with a bayou bonfire.

Ahead of the new song’s release, Lucky teased the involvement of Bruno Mars. He had been flying under the radar for much of 2023 as he let the last of his Silk Sonic/Vegas residency hangover subside before contributing songwriting and production to “That’s You” alongside D’Mile. With their involvement, “That’s You” sounds a little like a Silk Sonic remnant, carrying over a little of the ’70s-throwback, big-band R&B feel from that project into Lucky’s contemporary approach. The combination works well, providing a sultry but heartbroken vibe reflected in the steamy visuals. As far as a follow-up to his 2022 debut album Candydrip goes, “That’s You” is a compelling jumping-off point.

Here’s The Release Date For Lucky Daye And Bruno Mars’ ‘That’s You’ Single

Welp, Bruno Mars had a nice little vacation there, but it looks like he’s back to being one of the busiest guys in show business soon. After wrapping up a successful Las Vegas residency and humbly bowing out of Grammy consideration for the 2023 awards, Bruno had been flying relatively under the radar for most of the year. Today, though, rising R&B star Lucky Daye announced that Mars would be joining him on his new single, “That’s You,” alongside frequent production partner D’Mile. He also included a snippet of the song, which drops this Wednesday, November 1 — the perfect start to cuffing season.

It’s a big look for Lucky; not only has Bruno’s presence supercharged singles from the likes of Cardi B and Gucci Mane in past years, but “That’s You” arrives just as Lucky is looking to capitalize on having one of the best R&B albums of 2022 amid an overall resurgence of the genre which saw him collaborating with the red-hot Victoria Monét ahead of the release of her well-received album, Jaguar II. Lucky was also one of the beneficiaries of Silk Sonic foregoing the Grammys, receiving nominations for several awards at this year’s ceremony including Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance, and Best R&B Song. With Bruno on his side, he may be adding to his collection of hardware soon enough.

“That’s You” Feat. Bruno Mars & D’Mile is out on 11/1.

Victoria Monét’s ‘Jaguar II’ Is A Dazzling Triumph

The RX is Uproxx Music’s stamp of approval for the best albums, songs, and music stories throughout the year. Inclusion in this category is the highest distinction we can bestow, and signals the most important music being released throughout the year. The RX is the music you need, right now.

Humility is often painted as a superpower that has its strength in being a cornerstone for one’s success. For it to work best, it’s sad that other dominant qualities must be submissive in its presence. Confidence works hand-in-hand with it while pride takes a back seat. The alleged beauty behind humility has been professed in numerous ways by many for centuries upon centuries. Confucius called humility the “solid foundation of all virtues” while Rick Pitino said it’s the “true key to success.” Though these examples are not wrong per se, a more accurate one, arguably, can be credited to William Law who said humility is “nothing else but a right judgment of ourselves.”

The “right judgment” portion of that quote is as subjective as ever and on her new album Jaguar II, Victoria Monét declares her own judgment of self and the world around her. The irony here is that through the project’s 11 songs, Monét’s right judgment of self actually sheds the humility that has lived beside her in a career that’s lasted over a decade. For years, Monét was known for her songwriting as she penned records for Diddy, Ariana Grande, Chris Brown, Fifth Harmony, Chloe X Halle, Blackpink, and more – all while working on her own music. It wasn’t until recently that the scales of both seemed to even out, something she wished for back in 2020. “[My] songwriting took off before my [own music] so it wasn’t like I made a decision, I was trying to do both,” she explained in Wonderland Magazine interview. “Now I’m just trying to even the playing field.”

Successful songwriters are often left to live in the shadows of the background making for a disconnect between that and their own releases. That hasn’t been the case as of late for Monét. If her 2020 EP Jaguar was the connection and spark, her debut album Jaguar II is the electric field and bright lights that rightfully resulted. Monét shines with blinding radiance on songs that find her as confident as ever from start to finish on her latest release. Whether it be through the shimmering dance number that is the Kaytranada-produced “Alright,” or the sexy and uplifting “Party Girls,” Monét finds a way to be simultaneously jaguar-like in her fearless approach and as sleek and classy as the luxury vehicle that shares her album’s namesake

At the very center of this album, comes multiple swipes at humility. Monét specifically calls out the extinction of humility in her world moments into “On My Mama.” She pierces through each line with unfiltered cockiness while allowing not an inch of doubt to creep into her statements so as to not invalidate them. More indirectly, we see Monét pop the collar of her fur coat on “Cadillac (A Pimp’s Anthem) while mocking the idea that women can’t be pimps. The tone of disgust is prominent on “Stop (Asking Me 4Shyt)” as she’s in disbelief at the requests a man makes to her for money and other items. Lastly, in what is one of the best moments on the album, Victoria Monét paints herself as a flawless gem on “I’m The One,” perfect in all ways and specifically crafted for a lover who fails to see her as this fairytale love story. Humility often calls for a level of timidness and reservation in how one presents themselves, but for Monét this moment had been over a decade in the making. There isn’t room for dimming the light that she wired tirelessly to make shine.

The Victoria Monét that lives throughout Jaguar II isn’t new by any means. Her bold approach was at the center of Jaguar where records like “Ass Like That” and “Moment” marvelously presented her worth as a diamond in the rough. Much of the same is present on Jaguar II, just refined and crafted to a level that makes the multitalented singer’s artistry more pristine than ever. With heavy production from D’Mile, who has laced irresistible and pleasing records for the likes of Ty Dolla Sign, Snoh Aalegra, Lucky Daye, HER, Mary J. Blige, Silk Sonice, and more Victoria Monét had the necessary tools, both internal and external, to achieve that excellence that is Jaguae II. As she boldly proclaimed on her latest project, Victoria Monét is the one. So yes, humility to the wind and everything else like it. Her blinding radiance looks better and makes for the ideal ingredient in her recipe for success.

Jaguar II is out now via RCA Records/Lovett Music, Inc. Find out more information here.

Victoria Monét’s Best Songs

Victoria Monét recently announced the release date for her highly anticipated debut album, Jaguar II. The Sacramento singer-songwriter’s official full-length debut will be released on August 25 via Lovett Music and RCA. The album will serve as a sequel to her previous release, which was the Jaguar EP back in 2020. Though Jaguar II marks her official introduction, Victoria Monét has been established for over a decade.

Monét started her career as a songwriter and has written for many artists, including Diddy, Coco Jones, Fifth Harmony, Chloe x Halle, Brandy, Blackpink, and close collaborator Ariana Grande. Victoria became a successful songwriter before starting a career as a recording artist, where she released many EPs and featured songs from notable artists. Additionally, she has previously been featured on songs by Ariana Grande, Ty Dolla $ign, Nas, T.I., Wale, and Lupe Fiasco.

This is a list of her best songs, many of which come from Jaguar. While Monét’s oldest EPs have plenty of gems, her greatest songs so far have been released recently as she has focused on building a career as a singer and performer. Many of Monét’s best songs also include singles from the upcoming Jaguar II album, which have set the bar incredibly high for an already anticipated project. Take a look at the list of Victoria Monét’s top five best songs below, ranked from least to greatest.

5. “Smoke” feat. Lucky Daye (2023)

One of the singles from the upcoming Jaguar II album, “Smoke,” has already become one of Victoria Monét’s best songs. The song’s downbeat groove is reminiscent of “Dive” and “Go There With You” from Jaguar but with even better production. The melody on the hook is catchy on its own, but the hook is an enjoyable moment and equally as memorable. New Orleans singer Lucky Daye features on the song, contributing his own verses and ad-libbing Victoria Monét’s verses. Their singing voices complement each other nicely, especially when they harmonize. The song is about smoking, both in the lyrics but emphasizes the song’s vibe as “that sh*t you smoke to.”

4. “Party Girls” feat. Buju Banton (2023)

Another single from the forthcoming Jaguar II, “Party Girls,” is an early contender for Song of the Summer. It starts as an R&B jam before completely transforming into a dancehall track. The melody from Victoria Monét is undeniably catchy, no matter the tempo. The feature from legendary dancehall musician Buju Banton and the sample from Dave Kelly’s iconic “Showtime Riddim” bring a lively energy to the danceable second half of the song. “Party Girls” stands out among Victoria Monét’s slow-jam heavy catalog, highlighting her ability to fuse her signature pop/R&B sound with other genres and influences.

3. “Coastin’” (2021)

Many of Victoria Monét’s best songs are feel-good vibes to enjoy on a sunny day. Influenced by her home state of California, “Coastin’” captures a ‘70s sound with its relaxed yet joyful instrumental. The song is perfect for summertime driving, relaxing on the beach, or even a party.

2. “F.*.C.K.” (2021)

“F.*.C.K.” puts Victoria Monét’s skills as a songwriter on full display, which is one of many reasons her songs are so captivating. Monét had previously made similar intimate slow-jams like “Moment,” but “F.*.C.K.” is some of her best writing. An acronym for “Friend U Can Keep,” the song is about friends with benefits and is one of her most skillfully written R&B tracks.

1. “Ass Like That” (2019)

“Ass Like That” is a brilliantly written song about working out. The Jaguar single’s instrumental is laidback and is written masterfully. The gym is personified to help Victoria start her fitness journey and show she is proud of her accomplishments. The message of “Ass Like That” speaks to achieving personal goals and loving yourself in your body. It is Victoria Monét’s best song, lyrically and vocally.
