Police Officer Charged With Murder Of London Rapper Itch

An unnamed police officer fatally shot rising London rapper Itch back on September 5 of last year, and might now face dire consequences for it. Moreover, following a probe by a law enforcement watchdog, authorities charged the cop (whose name is unknown for legal liability reasons) with murder, according to a Wednesday (September 20) report from The Sun. Itch, real name Chris Kaba, was 24 and expecting a child. He passed away following a high-speed police chase where he was struck by bullets and taken to a South West London hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Itch’s drill group, 67, received a nomination for MOBO’s Best Newcomer during their 2016 awards show.

“Chris was so very loved by our family and all his friends,” Itch’s family remarked in a statement. “He had a bright future ahead of him, but his life was cut short. Our family and our wider community must see justice for Chris. We welcome this charging decision, which could not have come too soon. Now we await the trial of the firearms officer without delay and hope and pray that justice will be served.”

Itch Murder Case Sees A Charge

“They’ve taken my heart,” Itch’s mother Elaine Kaba expressed in addition. “My son is gone, I’m heartbroken.” “We’re devastated, we don’t know what to think, we can’t think straight right now,” the MC’s father Prosper stated. “He was always joking around, he enjoyed life, he had lots of friends. He was looking forward to being a father. His girlfriend is still in shock. He was looking forward to teaching his daughter how to talk and walking and all fatherly duties. He had wanted to be a father for a long time.” In addition, Director Amanda Rowe of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) informed the press that the charged officer is due at the Westminster Magistrates’ court today (Thursday, September 21).

“Our thoughts remain with Mr Kaba’s family and everyone affected by this tragic incident,” Rowe said. “It’s important now that criminal proceedings are able to run their course. We would reiterate the importance of not reporting, commenting or sharing information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings.” “We have fully supported the IOPC investigation as it has worked to establish the facts,” Met Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Helen Millichap added on. “Today’s announcement is a significant and serious development. We must now allow the court process to run its course so it would not be appropriate for me to say more at this stage. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this case.”

Kanye West’s travels around Europe unlocked something in him, for better or worse considering his recent controversies. Regardless, fans went wild when they heard new reports that Yeezy is working on a new album, which seems to be manifesting. Moreover, he recently previewed new music at the Mowalola SS 2024 Fashion Show in London, and it sounds a tad different to what you might expect. Of course, this isn’t the first time that he worked with trap aesthetics- very far from it, in fact. Still, given suggestions that the 46-year-old is working with older sounds, it struck some fans as an interesting misdirection.

Whether that’s actually the case or we’re getting more of the same Donda 2 filler remains to be seen. Either way, fans split up into two different camps: those who want to hear what Ye does and those who are more interested in what Ye says. As revered as Kanye West’s production is, it’s no surprise that many fans will more closely scrutinize the lyrical content given his antisemitic rhetoric. With lines like “P***y like a Steph three, straight water / Baby, what’s the killer price? Kevin Costner,” it seems like we’ll only find out where he’s going when (or rather, if) the project drops.

New Kanye West Music On The Runway

Another aspect to consider is how relatively low-profile the Chicago MC has been as a result of all of this. Most of the media’s recent coverage around him concerns his relationship and often provocative fit-matching with Bianca Censori. Their travels around Italy netted them a lot of controversy for their actions and public displays. They recently stopped by Germany, too, so it seems that their European travels are taking them everywhere.

Meanwhile, if there really is a rollout cycle here, history suggests that we’re still very far from an album. Yandhi‘s promised and then canceled drop, plus the heap of examples before and after it, created a hole in many fans’ hearts. The difference here, though, is that there’s a lot more at stake, and even an MBTDF moment won’t erase his abhorrent actions. All we can do is sit tight, wait, and see what the hip-hop titan will do with his career and image moving forward. Jaylen Brown Becomes First Active NBA Player To Appear In The Big3

Boston Celtics star, and current richest man in the NBA, Jaylen Brown traded the NBA for the Big3, at least for a day. The superstar guard was confirmed to be playing in the All-Star Game of the league operated by Ice Cube. Furthermore, it makes Brown the first active NBA player to appear in the league in any format. Additionally, Cube has repeatedly blasted the NBA for the sake of support of his 3×3 summer league.

“Jaylen Brown is my hero. He’s making a humongous statement by being the first current NBA player to play in a BIG3 game. By suiting up for our All-Star game tomorrow, he’s doing everything in his power to help the league succeed. Salute. Forever grateful…,” Cube wrote on Twitter on August 25. The All-Star Game was part of the celebrations for the Big3 Championship, which was held in London on August 26. The Season 6 title was later won by Enemies, coached by Gilbert Arenas.

“Having some fun for charity, giving back to the community, and supporting,” Brown told sideline MC Brian Scalabrine about why he took part. “It’s amazing being in this environment,” said Brown. “Shout out to London, shout out to the O2, excited to give back to charity, excited to be a part of this, and I appreciate you, Ice Cube.” Additionally, Brown put up 9/5/2 in Team Big’s loss to Team 3. Brown was playing to help local youth charity London Youth. Furthermore, after the game, Cube announced that the league would be matching Brown’s donation.

Cube reiterated his thanks to Brown while hanging out beside him during the interview. “I was blown away. I asked him if he was sure if he wanted to make this move, and he was like, ‘Yo, I want to do this for the game, for the players, and it’s a big move for the league’, so I’m excited — this guy is my hero right now. We’re blessed to be in a position where we can give back. Me being able to set the stage for the greatest athletes in the world — just call me the chef.”

Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist will be promoting their new album, Voir Dire, with a special concert in London on Friday. The two shared a flyer for the show on Instagram, Wednesday, with details for the event. It will be held at the city’s Jazz Cafe at 11:30 PM.

The venue’s website describes the show: “With London town heroes like Tommy Gold, C. Frim and Keyrah performing, a plethora of flavours are on offer across hip-hop, r&b, house, garage, funk and more. Expect the unexpected as a slew of DJ sets, including some very special guests take you through a once in a lifetime party.”

Earl and The Alchemist previously shared the tracklist for the project, Tuesday, featuring a total of 11 songs with one feature blurred out. The songs include “My Brother, The Wind,” “Mac Deuce,” and several more. The two have collaborated numerous times over the years, including on “RIP Tracy” off The Alchemist’s Flying High EP, as well as “Old Friend” and “Lye” from Earl’s Sick! In 2022, The Alchemist admitted to having a collaboration with Earl in store, but didn’t go into details. “We have a pot that’s been bubbling. We have several things in motion. I’ll just say that. But stay tuned,” he told Complex at the time. The Alchemist has also previously hinted a secretly recording a project with Earl and uploading it to YouTube under a fake name.

Earl spoke about working with the iconic producer during an interview with Zane Lowe, last year. “He cares bro. He cares a lot. Bobby Shmurda Parties With Fabolous & Giggs In London

Bobby Shmurda’s on a bit of a European trek right now, having hit up Paris right before heading to the UK. Moreover, the Miami-born and Brooklyn raised rapper recently had a ball in London alongside fellow MCs Fabolous and Giggs. Overall, it seemed like quite the star-studded affair, with a lot of neon lights, fancy suits, and of course champagne. Still, a lot of this begs the question: what could Shmurda be traveling so much around Europe for? Most likely, it’s just to have some fun. However, he could also be looking for his hat, and if you don’t understand that quest… go do your homework.

Furthermore, there were a lot of different clips that emerged from the 29-year-old’s London outing, all equally luxurious. Most of them seem to come from a massive party in what feels like a club but looks like a massive building lobby, so that shows how hard they went. In another clip, Bobby Shmurda poses with a couple of friends, all dressed in fine suits and some with their own bottles of bubbly. Fab got slightly clowned for his big pants, but a fashion statement like that isn’t going to win anyone over. That being said, maybe cool it on the size increases for next time.

Of course, his party adventures are more fun to see than most other rappers’ due to his time in prison. As such, it’s always heartening to see that “Free Bobby Shmurda” became a reality after so many online clamors for it. Even though he’s slightly moved away from rap culture, he recently expressed that he just has a different vision of what the genre should be. From what his words indicate, it seems like all this fun that he’s sharing online could hopefully inspire others to make it big.

“These kids are following you guys, and you’re rapping about these f***ing lifestyles,” he said in a podcast interview. “It’s very dangerous to the communities [because] these little kids [really] think that [it’s] going on. You did not even live [any] [of] [it]. Rap is supposed to be telling motherf***ers to go from negative to positive, coming from poverty to go to riches. How to stay in that and how to change. The Weeknd’s Tour Becomes The Highest-Grossing Tour Of The Decade

The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour continues to make waves overseas, especially now that he’s set a new global record. According to a press release, the Canadian singer’s global tour grossed over $350 million since it launched in 2022, making it the highest-grossing tour of the decade. The North American leg, which included dates in Canada and the U.S., grossed $148 million in sales. However, he brought that to over $350 million in sales following sold-out back-to-back shows in London. Additionally, he set a new record at the stadium, drawing in 160,000 between both nights.

The Weeknd now holds the record for the highest single-night attendance for any show at the stadium with 80,000 fans at the venue. However, he’s yet to wrap up his forthcoming tour. In the midst of the second leg, Live Nation reports that the tour already sold more than 2 million tickets between Europe and the forthcoming South American dates. It’s no small feat for any artist but The Weeknd has undoubtedly set an impressive bar for himself and other artists across the world.

Following his latest feat, it appears that The Weeknd may have beaten Michael Jackson’s record for the highest-grossing tour by a Black artist. Michael Jackson’s Bad tour reportedly held the title with $311 million with inflation, while The Weeknd passed the $350 million mark. It’s an impressive feat but perhaps, one that Beyoncé might beat with the Renaissance World Tour. Some economists have predicted that Bey could pull in billions from the global venture.

Still, it’s clear that the love for The Weeknd hasn’t waned following his controversial television show The Idol, which debuted on HBO earlier this year. The singer’s faced plenty of criticism over the past few weeks from fans, some of which felt as though they couldn’t listen to his music the same way after following the series. The Weeknd recently kicked off the European leg of his “After Hours Til Dawn” tour. He performed at London Stadium this past weekend, breaking records with the show. The artist now holds the record for the largest turnout across two nights of any tour, as well as the record for the largest turnout for a single night of any tour.

The Weeknd’s London tour stop saw him perform in a futuristic mirrored mask, with stunning accompanying visuals. He will go on to make 29 more stops, with his next being in Brussels later this week. The “After Hours Til Dawn” tour also features notable dates in Milan, Munich, and Barcelona.

The Weeknd also recently wrapped up the first season of his HBO show, The Idol. He stars in it alongside Lily-Rose Depp, and created the series alongside Sam Levinson. The Idol has been pretty controversial for its depictions of harmful relationships, sexuality, and more. Recently, it was even reported that The Weeknd’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez sees some similarities between her and the show’s main character, Jocelyn. Travis Scott Brings Out Sexyy Red During Wireless Fest Set

Travis Scott is currently a very busy man. Alongside the constant teasing and promotion of Utopia, Scott is currently doing the festival set circuit. He has primarily spent the last few weeks in Europe before he performs at Rolling Loud in Miami later this month. So far, Scott has given a fan the clothes off his back while performing in Dublin. Also in Ireland, Scott performed “Aye”, his track on Lil Uzi Vert’s The Pink Tape for the first time.

However, Scott most recently found himself at Wireless Festival in England. First held in 2005, Wireless is a staple of the British festival circuit. Wireless has been held in several venues across London and England but appears to have settled on Finsbury Park in North London. Beyond Scott, the lineup for the 2023 festival was absolutely stacked. Friday saw Playboi Carti, Ice Spice, Latto, Lil Uzi Vert, Metro Boomin, and Yeat to name a few. Saturday had Lil Yachty, FLO, and Mariah the Scientist. Furthermore, the show will close out on July 9 with 50 Cent, Lil Durk, GloRilla, and Popcaan.

However, Scott didn’t perform his July 8 set entirely alone. At one point in the proceedings, he brought out Sexyy Red, who performed alongside him in a red cropped hoodie and black leggings. Red is currently enjoying a meteoric rise to stardom. She earned major industry attention for her track “Pound Town”, which was later remixed by Nicki Minaj. That remix, dubbed “Pound Town 2”, peaked at #66 on the Billboard Hot 100. She followed that with her second mixtape, Hottest Hood Princess.

Red performed “Pound Town” and “SkeeYee” while getting major hype from Scott. However, it’s unclear wherever there is anything more to this guest appearance. It’s very possible that Scott was simply giving some airtime to an up-and-coming star. However, could this be a backdoor teaser for a feature on Utopia? After all, Utopia will have some features. The Weeknd recently kicked off the second leg of his “After Hours Til Dawn” tour. The artist performed in London, rocking a futuristic mirrored mask. The stadium tour will see The Weeknd make over 30 stops across Europe and Latin America. It features notable dates in Paris, Barcelona, Milan, and more.

Earlier this week, it was also revealed that The Weeknd is set to appear on Travis Scott’s upcoming album. Amir Esmailian, XO Records co-founder and co-manager, shared the news this week. The Weeknd had previously been photographed alongside Travis Scott’s famous UTOPIA briefcase, but now, fans finally have confirmation. The highly-anticipated LP, UTOPIA, does not yet have an official release date. Travis Scott has continued to tease the album every chance he gets, even recently arriving to Michael Rubin’s White Party in the Hamptons in a UTOPIA tour bus.

The Weeknd has also been making headlines as of late for his controversial show, The Idol. He stars in the HBO series alongside Lily-Rose Depp, playing a toxic and creepy cult leader. The show has received a tremendous amount of backlash for it’s depictions of toxic relationships, self harm, nudity, and more. Despite ongoing criticism, The Weeknd has continued to defend the show, which he co-created with Sam Levinson. In a recent interview with Variety, The Weeknd explained that the show has managed to accomplish what they set out to do. “My goal was for people to feel that way when they watch it, you know, and that they’ll reassess (fame),” he explained. “It’s almost educational that this is what comes with being incredibly famous. You’re surrounded by people who you’re not sure what their true intentions are, even if it seems like they’re good. You just never know,” he continued.
