Lil Wayne Doesn’t Believe AI Can Touch His Ability

If there is a rapper that knows something about standing out from the rest of the pack, it is Lil Wayne. His versatility as an artist and technical skills as a rapper are what makes him a legend in the game. Wayne’s influence on the biggest names in the space like Drake and Kendrick Lamar builds upon his legacy even more so. Even with the stars’ imprint on rap, like Wayne, there is still some belief that AI (artificial intelligence) can mimic someone’s presence on the mic down to the finest details.

In a recent sit-down with Billboard to honor the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, Wayne was questioned about a host of topics in the industry. One of the topics that was brought to light was AI’s impact as of late. “Someone asked me about that recently,” Wayne began. “They were trying to tell me that AI could make a voice that sounds just like me. But it’s not me, because I’m amazing.” Wayne possesses undoubtedly one of the most standout voices. With his high-pitch raspiness and his signature lighter flick, his opinions on this are more than valid.

Another feather in the cap of Wayne is his ceaseless drive to create new music. With well over 18 releases on Spotify, and not to mention his extensive mixtape discography on Datpiff, he spoke on why his work ethic has continuously been a catalyst to his success. “I just work. I just keep going. I never stop. It’s just the work ethic, plain and simple,” Wayne said. In the interview, he hinted at the release of Tha Carter VI, but time will tell when that will drop.

All in all, Lil Wayne’s one-of-a-kind style and approach to music make him an unreplaceable figure in the hip-hop genre. What is your take on AI? Do you feel it can fully replace artists in the future? Or, is it just a fad trend that will die out? Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments section. Flo Milli’s Self-Titled Freestyle Paid Homage To Lil Wayne’s ‘A Milli’ Because He’s ‘Still The Greatest Rapper Alive’

Tributes to hip-hop’s 50th anniversary are far from over. Flo Milli is joining in on the flower giving on her new freestyle, “Flo Milli.” Simply put, the tribute is a lovefest on rap megastar Lil Wayne. From the signature deadlocks to the video’s original concept, Flo Milli aimed to honor the New Orleans native through his 2008 song, “A Milli.”

As Flo Milli borrowed the classic rap beat, she also takes some additional creative liberties by flipping several of the Young Money boss’ lyrics, including her stanza, “She’s a beast / She’s a dog / She’s a muthef*ckin’ problem / Claiming she want what but be running like a possum / You can’t stand ’em then you drop ’em / Hoes get messy imma mop ’em / hallucinogenic have ’em rolling when I rock ’em.”

The entertainer took to Instagram to share the record’s cover art in which she continued her praise of Lil Wayne, writing, “Lil Wayne is still the GREATEST RAPPER ALIVE,” in the caption. This sentiment is echoed amongst several other recording artists, including his protégés Nicki Minaj and Drake, to NLE Choppa.

Earlier in the month, Flo Milli also paid tribute to West Coast rap legend, Too Short with a remix of his song “Blow The Whistle” into “Flo The Whistle.”

Lil Wayne’s Mom Didn’t Accept His First Big Check: ‘She Gave It Right Back’

Screen Shot 2023 07 15 at 12.55.39 PM

Rapper Lil Wayne joined The Pivot Podcast for an enlightening conversation and revealed what he did with his first big check. His mom, Jacida Carter, taught Weezy that money isn’t everything, something that he still keeps in mind to this day.

“First big check, though?” Lil Wayne remarked. “I just gave it straight to her. Gave it straight to my mom, and the first thing she did was give it straight back. You know, with this check, we got three digits before the other three digits. We had never seen that in our lives, you know what I mean? She was like, ‘Boy that’s yours. You made that.’

“Goes to show you how we are,” Lil Wayne continued. “Just that right there, I mean, that just taught me how to be with money right there at that moment. It taught me that it doesn’t mean nothing. I’m like, ‘You don’t need nothing out of this?’ She was like, ‘I don’t need nothing.’ I was like, ‘I’m going to build you a house.’ And she took, like, the least she could take to build the house. But that taught me from that moment that it’s just paper. That don’t mean too much.”

Paramount+ Announces New Documentary ‘MIXTAPE’ Feat. Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, DJ Drama & More

Paramount+ Announces New Documentary 'MIXTAPE' Feat. Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, DJ Drama & More

Paramount+ has announced the premiere of MIXTAPE, a new documentary that delves into the influential role of mixtapes in launching hip-hop into mainstream culture. The film will exclusively debut on the streaming service on August 1 in the U.S. and Canada, and on August 2 in the U.K., Australia, Latin America, and Brazil, with additional international markets to follow later in the year.

MIXTAPE tells the story of how hip hop persevered and thrived through mixtapes, with DJs serving as tastemakers and creators of the genre’s sound. The documentary highlights the cultural significance of mixtapes as currency and indicators of being “in the know.”

“Hip-Hop is 50 years old and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate its journey and contextualize its evolution than through the story of the mixtape. Every voice in this film played a critical role, especially the DJs who, as KRS-ONE says beautifully in the film, risked everything to ‘bring us the music’,” said Omar Acosta, director of MIXTAPE.

Producer Tony Touch added, “It’s an honor to be involved in this film and to help tell the real story of the mixtape, its origins, its impact, and its ongoing relevance for the culture.”

The MIXTAPE features interviews with a star-studded lineup of artists and industry figures, including 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Mike Tyson, and more. Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Mercury Studios, and Saboteur Media in association with Def Jam Recordings, “MIXTAPE” is directed by Omar Acosta and produced by David Kennedy, Tony Touch, Nick Quested, and Daniel Seliger. The official soundtrack, titled “The Def Tape,” is set to be released in August via Def Jam Recordings.

Lil Wayne And A Who’s-Who Of Mixtape Legends Break Down The Format In Paramount Plus’ ‘Mixtape’ Trailer

What is a mixtape? The answer might be uncertain in 2023 when albums, mixtapes, playlists, and “projects” all seem interchangeable. But Paramount Plus is looking to break down the format with its new documentary, Mixtape. Featuring interviews with mixtape legends like Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, ASAP Rocky, The Game, and many, many more, the doc attempts to define what the mixtape has meant to hip-hop for the past 50 years and track its evolution from actual, physical tapes, to downloads and streams blowing up careers. Check out the trailer above.

The part I find myself looking forward to most is DJ Drama‘s recollection of the 2005 police raid that upended hip-hop’s mixtape subculture after the Recording Industry Association of America became desperate to stem the tide of illegal downloads and rampant bootlegging. Drama was accused of racketeering, which he says in a clip in the Mixtape trailer made him “more famous than I ever was.” (You can read a little bit more about that incident here.)

Mixtape‘s August 1 release date is perfectly timed to join the ongoing Hip-Hop 50 celebrations currently going on, which include The Criterion Channel streaming classic hip-hop films, Sony Music dropping a compilation of its 50 years of contributions to the culture, and Mass Appeal’s producer EPs by Swizz Beatz and DJ Premier.

Lil Wayne Remixed ‘A Milli’ With A Slew Of Sports Lines In A Performance At The ESPY Awards

Lil Wayne has successfully straddled the line between rap and sports for decades. The 2023 ESPYs were last night, July 12, and some athletic figures walked away with a higher honor than a trophy: An improvised name-check from Lil Wayne during his performance of “A Milli” to open the broadcast.

Lil Wayne seamlessly altered the song’s famous bars to include nods toward LSU women’s basketball standout Angel Reese, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, San Antonio Spurs 2023 No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, and NFL Hall Of Famer-turned-Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.

The mad dash ended with Wayne spitting, “I want my NIL so I’m goin’ back to college / Tattoos on my face, you can call me Dennis Rodman.” Wayne thanked the crowd before leaving the stage and welcomed everyone to the 2023 ESPYs.

If such a category existed, Wayne would have been the frontrunner for Best Sports Analyst In Rap. The New Orleans icon recently ranked LeBron James as the best basketball player of all time while visiting Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson’s All The Smoke and weighed in with empathy on Ja Morant’s public slip-ups. Perhaps most stunningly, Lil Wayne praised Eli Manning’s rapping during an appearance on ManningCast last December.
