Lil Wayne Takes The Stage

Moreover, a different headline that’s been circulating on social media has been none other than Lauryn Hill clapping back at haters. Critics have complained about her being late to many dates on the tour, to which Hill responded that people are “lucky” she even makes it on stage every night. “Yo, y’all lucky I make it on this … stage every night,” she told the audience. “I leave my soul on this stage. And I don’t do it because they let me. I do it because I stand here in the name of God. And I know it. God is the one who allows me to do it, who surrounded me with family and community when there was no support when the album sold so many records and no one showed up and said, ‘Hey, would you like to make another one?’”

However, Lil Wayne’s surprise appearance with the Fugees and Lauryn Hill left a lasting impact on the audience. Furthermore, it cemented the night as a legendary moment in music history. It serves as a testament to the enduring influence of these artists and the ability of music to bring people together in the most unexpected and extraordinary ways. “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” tour is set to continue throughout November and December for select dates. Flo Milli’s Self-Titled Freestyle Paid Homage To Lil Wayne’s ‘A Milli’ Because He’s ‘Still The Greatest Rapper Alive’

Tributes to hip-hop’s 50th anniversary are far from over. Flo Milli is joining in on the flower giving on her new freestyle, “Flo Milli.” Simply put, the tribute is a lovefest on rap megastar Lil Wayne. From the signature deadlocks to the video’s original concept, Flo Milli aimed to honor the New Orleans native through his 2008 song, “A Milli.”

As Flo Milli borrowed the classic rap beat, she also takes some additional creative liberties by flipping several of the Young Money boss’ lyrics, including her stanza, “She’s a beast / She’s a dog / She’s a muthef*ckin’ problem / Claiming she want what but be running like a possum / You can’t stand ’em then you drop ’em / Hoes get messy imma mop ’em / hallucinogenic have ’em rolling when I rock ’em.”

The entertainer took to Instagram to share the record’s cover art in which she continued her praise of Lil Wayne, writing, “Lil Wayne is still the GREATEST RAPPER ALIVE,” in the caption. This sentiment is echoed amongst several other recording artists, including his protégés Nicki Minaj and Drake, to NLE Choppa.

Earlier in the month, Flo Milli also paid tribute to West Coast rap legend, Too Short with a remix of his song “Blow The Whistle” into “Flo The Whistle.”

Lil Wayne Remixed ‘A Milli’ With A Slew Of Sports Lines In A Performance At The ESPY Awards

Lil Wayne has successfully straddled the line between rap and sports for decades. The 2023 ESPYs were last night, July 12, and some athletic figures walked away with a higher honor than a trophy: An improvised name-check from Lil Wayne during his performance of “A Milli” to open the broadcast.

Lil Wayne seamlessly altered the song’s famous bars to include nods toward LSU women’s basketball standout Angel Reese, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, San Antonio Spurs 2023 No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, and NFL Hall Of Famer-turned-Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.

The mad dash ended with Wayne spitting, “I want my NIL so I’m goin’ back to college / Tattoos on my face, you can call me Dennis Rodman.” Wayne thanked the crowd before leaving the stage and welcomed everyone to the 2023 ESPYs.

If such a category existed, Wayne would have been the frontrunner for Best Sports Analyst In Rap. The New Orleans icon recently ranked LeBron James as the best basketball player of all time while visiting Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson’s All The Smoke and weighed in with empathy on Ja Morant’s public slip-ups. Perhaps most stunningly, Lil Wayne praised Eli Manning’s rapping during an appearance on ManningCast last December.

Florida Police Use Lil Wayne’s ‘A Milli’ In A Cringeworthy TikTok Video For A $1.1 Million Drug Bust

Who knew that police officer could double as influencers? Apparently, they can. In a recent video shared to TikTok, a Florida Police department used Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” to soundtrack a recent drug seizure.

In the video, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced its narcotics detectives were able to seize nearly $1.1 million “in illegal drug money off the street” before dancing and singing along to the 2008 smash hit.

“Christmas is canceled for these two drug dealers, and the streets are cleared of drugs, guns, and a milli,” said Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno. The video then cuts to a cringy montage where authorities count all the dirty money they had collected from the raid.

The critically acclaimed track won a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2009 and peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Wayne has become a commercial juggernaut throughout his almost three-decade career. This past September, along with celebrating his 4oth birthday, the New Orleans rapper earned 22 new RIAA certifications, including one for “A Milli,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “Love Me,” featuring Drake and Future, and more.

His protégé, Drake, has also earned some new RIAA certifications. Most recently, the Canadian rapper became the highest-selling singles artist in RIAA history, surpassing Eminem.

Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” Used In Police TikTok Announcing $1.1M Drug Bust

It appears that a Florida Police Department might be big fans of Lil Wayne. Over the weekend, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office shared a TikTok announcing a $1.1M drug bust with Weezy’s 2008 hit, “A Milli” soundtracking the video.

The TikTok video shows Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno along with two other officers standing behind a table of cash. Then, they announce that they successful conducted a major drug bust.

“Christmas is canceled for these two drug dealers and the streets are cleared of drugs, guns and a milli,” Sheriff Marceno says. Just as he finishes talking, Lil Wayne’s”A Milli” begins to play. The video reveals that the police department executed two warrants. During that time, they seized two kilos of cocaine, along with $1.1M in cash, which they count throughout the clip.

Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” stands as one of his biggest hits to date. Released ahead of Tha Carter III, the single earned Wayne the Grammy for Best Rap Solo performance.

Lil Wayne has yet to respond to the clip and it seems unlikely that he will in the near future. However, fans should expect to hear some new music in the near future. DJ Drama and Weezy recently linked up, sparking speculation that another installment in the Dedication series was coming. However, Drama also indicated that he’s working on a new album so there’s a good chance the two have a song coming out soon.

Most recently, Lil Wayne joined forces with YG for the latter’s new single, “Miss My Dawgs.” The two artists paid tribute to Slim400 on the single. Ahead of the song’s release, YG blessed Lil Wayne with a new 4Hunnid chain to celebrate their latest collab.

In addition to his musical output in recent weeks, the National Museum Of African American Music honored Lil Wayne with an exhibit dedicated to his catalog and impact.

Lil Wayne Celebrates His 2008 Hit ‘A Milli’ Reaching An Ironic Streaming Milestone

In the summer of 2008, Lil Wayne’s then-new single “A Milli” was practically inescapable, as it played nonstop in radio and music video rotations and numerous rappers including the likes of Jay-Z, Fabolous, Jadakiss, Lil Mama, LL Cool J, and more took on freestyled iterations of it that proliferated on blogs like to the point it was hard to find anyone who didn’t have a version of it somewhere in their catalog. It’s safe to say it was the biggest hit of Lil Wayne’s career — in terms of impact, if not numerically — and has left a lasting impression on the rap landscape ever since.

Yesterday, Lil Wayne got to celebrate the track reaching a milestone that may be somewhat ironic in context, posting a photo to Instagram declaiming the track reaching a billion streams on Spotify. “A Billi A Billi A Billi,” he wrote in the caption, evoking the song’s original hook. “Shoutout @spotify and @rapcaviar. And most importantly shoutout every last one of y’all that listened, streamed, and still bump it till this day!”

The track, which was the second single from his game-changing album Tha Carter III, has consistently appeared on lists of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time since its release, including this one from BBC, this one from Rolling Stone, and this one from Complex.

Congrats to Lil Wayne, and here’s to another milli, billi, and who knows, maybe even a trilli in the future.
