Lil Nas X Got Barack Obama, Taylor Swift, And Kanye West (Impersonators, That Is) For His ‘J Christ’ Video, A New Teaser Shows

Lil Nas X has been active in the lead-up to his new single “J Christ,” whether he’s maybe (but maybe not) enrolling in a Biblical studies program, showing off some genuine gospel music, or re-creating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. His “J Christ” video is set to drop this Friday, but ahead of then, he has again indulged in attention-grabbing antics with a new video teaser.

The 20-second video shows a long line of people in white robes, walking through a field, which looks like the iconic Windows XP wallpaper, and up a literal stairway to Heaven. In that line are a bunch of celebrity impersonators, of Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, and Barack Obama, as well as a couple who aren’t quite as perfect a visual match but who appear to represent Ed Sheeran and Oprah Winfrey.

Ever since he first burst onto the scene with “Old Town Road,” Nas has proven that he’s a viral marketing master, and this whole “J Christ” rollout is just another shining example of that.

In response to backlash over his crucifixion image, Nas wrote, “the crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of jesus. Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world. I’m not making fun of sh*t. yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. stfu.”

Lil Nas X continues to tease his new era. This Friday (January 12), the rapper and troll extraordinaire will drop “J Christ,” the lead single to his upcoming sophomore album, and the kick-off to what he’s been describing as his “Christian era.” In the days leading up to the single drop, Lil Nas X is reinforcing the idea that he is a good, Christian boy.

Today (January 9), Lil Nas X took to Instagram to share what appears to be an acceptance letter from Liberty University. The letter indicates that Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Hill, will enter the school’s Christian Leadership and Biblical Studies program in the fall.

“As we seek to build a campus community exemplifying strong academic achievement and an unwavering commitment to the Christian faith, our admissions committee is dedicated to selecting students of the highest caliber,” reads the letter. “We believe you are one of those students, and we are confident you will make an outstanding addition to our student body.”

Lil Nas X assured fans he is taking his studies seriously upon his evident enrollment.

“I know some of yall hate me right now but i want yall to know im literally about to go to college for biblical studies in the fall,” he said in the post’s caption. Not everything is a troll! Anyways IM A STUDENT AGAIN! LETS GOOO”

You can read the full acceptance letter below.

Lil Nas X Shared A Lengthy Snippet Of A Demo Titled ‘1-800-CALL-GOD’ To Show He Really Is In His Gospel Era

Lil Nas X has been pushing Christian themes during the rollout for his upcoming single “J Christ,” and the whole time, he has been straight-faced in his insistence that he’s, in his words, “not making fun of sh*t.” He put his money where his mouth is once again, this time by sharing nearly two minutes of new music, snippets of a demo titled “1-800-CALL-GOD.”

On his Instagram Story today (January 9), he posted a couple of snippets of the song: one of the track’s first minute, and then another 45-second snippet that starts after jumping ahead a few seconds from where the first snippet ended. Sure enough, the track sees Nas singing over an instrumental featuring piano, organ, and a backing choir.

The opening verse of the first part goes:

“Yuh, I’m way too grateful for it
I go the limits to keep every acre, Lord
I’ll bend over backwards to pave the way forth
I’ll go out of my way to make a way, lord
Huh, oh man, God damn
It’s just me and myself and these verses
Me and my faith verses, them generational curses
Me and my faith verses, well, whatever emerges
You can’t just get this sh*t from walkin’ inside of them churches
Oh man, I’ve seen it all even though I didn’t
I give my all the best stars, all you n****s just wishin’
I’m Star Walkin’ like the lights in my roof
Know who I was, now I finally got the proof
I said ‘I love you’ to myself, I love you too! (I love you too!)”

He shared the samples seemingly to bolster his case that he really isn’t making fun of Jesus and Christianity with his new era like some have claimed. Over the first part of the video, he wrote, “i like how the world decided i am mocking, when i literally have been working on a gospel album??” He wrote over the second part, “Like be fr?”

Lil Nas X Gives Fans An Extended Listen To His Forthcoming Gospel-Inspired “J CHRIST” Single

It seems that Georgia rapper and singer Lil Nas X is finally making a full return to his music career. Yesterday, January 8, the 24-year-old shared the cover art and release date for his brand-new single, “J CHRIST.” It will be out on Friday, January 12, and it will see his foray into Christian/gospel music. Nas X has been talking about making a religious switch for quite some time now. In fact, it was just over a year ago that he began making these statements.

They have put him in some hot water and Nas X feels like he was “blackballed” from dropping anything in 2023. But, the wait is finally coming to an end for him and his fan base. Lil Nas is dedicating this track to the special man above. In his Instagram announcement post, he says, “MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME!”

Lil Nas X Has People Excited

On top of the art and day of the release, Nas X has given fans plenty more to chew on in the coming days. A fan account on Twitter (known now as X) unearthed a possible preview of “J CHRIST.” The teaser is about 1:45 long and sounds very good. It is not a full dive into Christian music, but the elements are prevalent. Nas X is rapping over some heavenly background vocals mixed with some trap kick drums. Fans are digging what they hear so far. One says, “Wow this is beautiful.” Another says, “This go hard [flame emojis].”

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new preview of Lil Nas X’s upcoming single? Do you think this is a good direction for him to go with his music, why or why not? Lil Nas X Stretched on Cross on Artwork for New Single ‘J Christ’

Lil Nas X Stretched on Cross on Artwork for New Single 'J Christ'

Lil Nas X is definitely going to get the Internet talking with this one. Hitting social media, Lil Nas X has announced his new single “J Christ.” The album’s cover art features Lil Nas X stretched on a cross like Jesus.

“MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME!”

Lil Nas X grabbed the ears of the Christian community when he revealed that he was heading into his Christian era. Hitting Twitter, Lil Nas posed the question “y’all mind if i enter my christian era?”

Ever the troll, Lil Nas X then wrote: “making christian music does not mean i can’t suck dick no more. the two are not mutually exclusive. i am allowed to get on my knees for multiple reasons.”

Hearing the news, the artist formally known as Boonk Gang, now known as “Holy Gabbana” shunned the idea. “Don’t title a Christian and make others believe it’s ok for us to live in habitual/intentional sin.”

And Lil Nas X had time, writing, “it’s really insane how yall pretend some of our pastors aren’t getting piped down before the sunday service. yall do not know jesus personally stop trying to gatekeep him”

You can see it all below.

Lil Nas X Recreated Jesus’ Crucifixion In New Cover Art And He’s Firing Back At The Haters: ‘I’m Not Making Fun Of Sh*t’

In promotion of his new era, Lil Nas X has been leaning into Christian themes, especially today (January 8) with the announcement that his new single, “J Christ,” is coming out on January 12. The single’s cover art features a re-creation of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, with Nas playing the role of Jesus. This appears to have rubbed some people the wrong way, and now Lil Nas X has something to say about it.

In a tweet shared after the announcement, the rapper dismissed the idea that he’s mocking Jesus, writing, “the crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of jesus. Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world. I’m not making fun of sh*t. yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. stfu.”

He also retweeted some tweets supporting him.

One reads, “The reason a lot of yall are not understanding J Christ and Lil Nas X’s new era in general is because you also blatantly misunderstood Montero (Call Me By Your Name) and its message. There is no mocking happening anywhere. It’s just art like so many other artists have done.” Another one says, “If y’all truly cared about religion like yall say u do, You could easily see how heavy of a Christian he & his family is. Yall wanna gatekeep people from religion so bad. Its not him making religion look bad it’s yall making it look bad by saying who can&cant be a Christian.” Somebody else wrote, “Imagine telling Lil Nas X that he’s not allowed to use the iconography of the world’s largest religion, that shaped the western culture and informed ALL of the western art, to express himself, like ALL western artists have been doing for the past couple of millenia.”

Meanwhile, on January 3, Nas tweeted, “my new song features a very beloved popstar who ive been a fan of for a long time,” but who that is has not yet been revealed.

Lil Nas X Is Living Up To Entering His Christian Era On Upcoming Single “J CHRIST”

Lil Nas X had one of the more dominant runs in music in the past several years from 2019-2021. His viral tracks such as “MONTERO” and “INDUSTRY BABY” had him constantly topping the charts. However, the past year and a half has been quiet for the Georgia native. In 2022, Nas X put out two singles. Those were “Late To Da Party (F*CK BET)” with NBA YoungBoy and “STAR WALKIN’.” The latter was a collaboration with the League of Legends video game.

Part of the reason for his lack of production is because Nas X feels he was “blackballed” from releasing in 2023. According to Billboard, it is because of “promoting God to the masses.” The latter of the comments were made late last week. Around the same time, Lil Nas said he was going to “expose the industry” and that he needed to “watch his back.”

In addition to all of those statements, the multi-talent made one last year. He claimed he was going to enter his “Christian era.” Well, he is living up to that promise it seems. According to Pitchfork the platinum recording artist revealed the cover art and release date for “J CHRIST.” “MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME!” It will be out on Friday, January 12. Also according to Billboard, this track is rumored to be put out independently, and not through Columbia Records. Nas X is doing this because “[my label] gave me the choice of going independent to release my gospel music or staying with them.”

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new single announcement by Lil Nas X? Will “J CHRIST” be his best song in the last couple of years? How do you feel about the rumors that this will have gospel inspiration? Does this mean that he is getting ready to drop an album this year? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for the latest news surrounding Lil Nas X. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on around the music world.

Lil Nas X Cosplayed Jesus’ Crucifixion To Announce His Next Single, ‘J Christ,’ Proof That His ‘Christian Era’ Is Real

Lil Nas X is nothing if not provocative. The two-time Grammy winner is nearly three years removed from his controversial “Satan Shoes” and Satan-adjacent video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and now, he is entering his self-proclaimed “Christian-era.” Lil Nas X has been teasing new music for months — most recently, promising a “new song and visual next week” on January 3.

As promised, this morning (January 8), he confirmed “J Christ” will arrive this Friday, January 12.

“MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME!” Lil Nas X wrote on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) alongside the single’s cover art, which more or less finds him cosplaying Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. “J CHRIST JANUARY 12, 2024 00:00 EST BE THERE!”

Lil Nas X subsequently posted a nine-second promotional video, in which the golden cross he is nailed upon transforms into something of a haloed Transformers robot.

It seems notable that the presave link is “BeginningisNear.com.” Could that be the album title? Additionally, Lil Nas X closed the loop on speculation that Kesha might be featured on his next song. Last Friday, January 5, Lil Nas X posted the song’s release date alongside photos of Kesha holding up a cardboard sign, reading, “NEW MUSIC COMING SOON.” The post also features a photo of Lil Nas X holding a corresponding cardboard sign: “WHAT SHE SAID!”

Of course, it’s still possible that Kesha is featured — either on “J Christ” or any song on his forthcoming album — but Lil Nas X just quote-tweeted himself and made that less of a certainty. On January 3, he posted, “my new song features a very beloved popstar who ive been a fan of for a long time.” His new quote-tweet reads, “It was god.”

We are officially in the thick of the first full-fledged Lil Nas X rollout since his 2021 debut album, Montero, and I am here for it.

“J Christ” is out 1/12 via Columbia Records. Find more information here.

Lil Nas X is about to get on his Katt Williams. Speaking on TikTok, the rapper revealed he will “expose the industry” before releasing his two new singles.

“Me knowing I’m about to expose the industry next Friday and realizing I need to watch my back for the next 7 days,” Lil Nas X wrote in the caption.

After a dramatic debut at the Toronto Film Festival last year, the documentary “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero” is set to make its television premiere on HBO on January 27 at 8 p.m., simultaneously streaming on HBO Max.

The documentary, offering an intimate look into Lil Nas X’s first global tour, faced an unexpected hurdle during its world premiere in Toronto. A bomb threat delayed the gala screening scheduled at Roy Thomson Hall, one of TIFF’s premier venues. The threat, which specifically targeted the artist for being a Black queer artist, led to a 20-minute delay in Lil Nas X’s arrival as TIFF security conducted a thorough sweep to ensure safety.

Directed by Carlos López Estrada and Zac Manuel, with editing by Andrew Morrow, “Long Live Montero” promises to provide fans and viewers with behind-the-scenes insights into Lil Nas X’s journey during his groundbreaking tour. The documentary captures the highs and challenges of the tour, offering a unique perspective on the artist’s experiences and the impact of his music.

Despite the initial setback, Lil Nas X and the documentary team proceeded with the screening once the threat was deemed not credible. Now, HBO audiences will have the chance to witness the unfolding of Lil Nas X’s journey in “Long Live Montero” and gain a deeper understanding of the artist’s remarkable career.
