SZA Ups The Weirdness In Striking NSFW Cover For “Lana”

SZA loves to make statements, and this covert art for her upcoming SOS deluxe LANA definitely makes one. The R&B/pop phenom shared the official artwork to her social media accounts just moments ago. It continues on the outdoor/woodsy theme from the first trailer we got where she appeared to be peeing in the wilderness. Yes, that is not a lie, click the link here. It features the Missouri native standing in an overgrown field at night wearing some yellow cargo drawstring pants and a matching jacket. But it gets much weirder from there.

She appears to have some sort of body paint on, is wearing circular tinted shades, has alien/or bug antennas, and is exposing her entire stomach and chest region. The caption doesn’t begin to give the cover justice, as SZA writes, “Presave link is live.” Besides the nature aspect, the buggy features were something that was also teased by the hitmaker previously. Back in September, SZA went on Hot Ones and was wearing a similar alien-like mask then for the interview.

The connections don’t really stop there either though. Outside of “Drive” — which was teased in the hilarious and wholesome second teaser trailer with Ben Stiller — the one possible single we have is “Saturn.” Of course, that relates to space and astronomy, which might also tie into LANA somehow. Overall, there’s definitely a bit of world building to some extent going on, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store.

Outside of that, we don’t really know how many new songs there will be. Given that this will just be a deluxe, we can’t imagine there won’t be an entire album’s worth of cuts to drop. Although Megan Thee Stallion did drop 13 extra records for the “extended version” of MEGAN earlier this year. All bets are off, but regardless, fans are thrilled. “BRO JUST DROP TSSS,” one IG user exclaims. Don’t worry y’all, December 20 will be here soon enough.

SZA’s ‘Hot Ones’ Bug Costume Returns On The Out-Of-This-World Cover For ‘Lana’

Back in September, SZA appeared on Hot Ones rocking a facial prosthetic with bug eyes and antennae, joking, “I’m just tired of being not a bug… Wouldn’t you want to be a bug if you could be anything else?” While the bizarre aesthetic threw off some fans — but not host Sean Evans, who took it in stride, not even asking about it until over ten minutes into the interview — others deduced it could be a clue to SZA’s upcoming album, Lana, which she’s been teasing since releasing her smash album, SOS, in 2022.

Now that the album is officially on the way — and seemingly upgraded from a deluxe edition of SOS to its own thing — the cheeky rollout is snowballing its way toward its December 20 release date. Today, SZA shared the cover art, on which her bug prosthetic makes its return — and expands to encompass her entire body, turning her into a shimmering (but extremely fashionable) alien insect. Perhaps hanging out with Doja Cat has rubbed off on her.

In any event, you can check out the cover art below or on SZA’s social media. Lana is out on 12/20 via Top Dawg Entertainment. You can find more info when the pre-save link goes live.

Ben Stiller Helps SZA Unveil Release Date For “LANA (SOS Deluxe)”

SZA has been teasing the release of LANA (SOS Deluxe) since 2023. The singer has confirmed plans to give fans an extended version of her acclaimed second album, but has failed to give much in the way of info or song titles. SZA has made good on her promise to get it out before 2025. SZA unveiled a release date for LANA (SOS Deluxe) on Monday, and it was done in a very unexpected fashion. Instead of giving fans a SZA-centric album trailer, the singer decided to call in beloved actor/director Ben Stiller to help her out.

The trailer for LANA (SOS Deluxe) sees Ben Stiller driving and singing to an unreleased SZA song. A song that will presumably make the tracklist for the new album. The entertainer leans into his comedy side and gives an impassioned performance of the song, titled “Drive.” SZA uploaded the trailer to her social media accounts, along with a release date of December 20. This is the second trailer released in as many weeks. Shortly before Stiller got behind the wheel, SZA dropped a promo in which she walks through the woods and uses the restroom before exiting the frame.

SZA’s Deluxe Album Will Drop On December 20

Ben Stiller might seem like a random choice for a SZA collaborator. But those who follow the entertainer on Twitter he’s interacted with the singer before. The “Snooze” hitmaker tweeted that she needed a new season of Stiller’s TV show Severance sooner than later. “Was trying to be polite. But I really need a new season of Severance right the f*ck now,” she wrote in May. The entertainer responded, writing “got it,” and the shocked singer apologized.

Omg please accept my humble apology lmao whenever ur ready is fine,” she tweeted. “Just dying of thirst it’s the best show ever! Ur a madman. THANK U mr stiller king sir!.” Ben Stiller took the exchange well, though, and even joked about it during a Tonight Show appearance. He told host Jimmy Fallon that “whatever SZA wants, SZA gets.” Obviously, the admiration goes both ways. Given the production value of the album trailer clip, its possible Stiller will star in one of the album’s music videos. Fingers crossed for more SZA/Stiller content.

Earlier in the month, SZA celebrated the second anniversary of her record-breaking sophomore album, SOS. Although fans of the “Saturn” singer continue to enjoy the project, they are clamoring for its deluxe edition Lana.

Last week, SZA teased the album yet again but this time with a rather interesting promotional visual. Today (December 16), SZA officially confirmed Lana’s release date with the help of her latest bestie, Ben Stiller.

“‘Drive’ starring Ben Stiller. Directed by Bradley J. Calder. Deluxe Friday,” wrote SZA on Instagram.

Although fans are apprehensive, according to SZA Lana will is schedule to hit streaming platforms this Friday, December 20. In the teaser clip (viewable here), Ben Stiller lip syncs to SZA’s seemingly forthcoming Lana single “Drive.”

“I been up ’til up midnight / Drivin’ to nowhere / Bumpin’ a slow song / Can’t get my head clear / I been up ’til sunrise / Headed to nowhere / Hopin’ that someone’s missin’ me somewhere,” mouths Stiller.

SZA has a knack for exciting crossover cameos. In the official video for “Kill Bill,” SZA tapped Kill Bill actor Vivica A. Fox for fun appearance. For SZA’s CTRL-era she secured Drew Barrymore as a special guest in the visual for the tracked inspired by the actor.

But for now, everything is all about Lana, which is sure to include a few more celebrity pop-ups.

As we approach SZA’s new album, the TDE superstar has released a trailer. In the video, SZA takes a bathroom break in a forest and sings over a track featuring The Isley Brothers’ “Voyage to Atlantis.” You can see the Lana trailer below.

Speaking with British Vogue, she previewed the Lana album.

“I think I am making music from a more beautiful place,” SZA said. “From a more possible place versus a more angsty place. I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s s**t that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”

SZA has always been of the beaten path. However, the “Saturn” singer’s love of nature and bug prosthetics might have unlocked another level of ungoverned freedom.

Today (December 9), SZA shared the official video teaser for her long-awaited Lana deluxe album. The clip posted to Instagram (viewable here) features a sultry snippet which fans hope makes the project’s final cut. Although the featured song is rather captivating, viewers found themselves distracted by something else on full display in the visual.

As SZA walks in the woodsy frame, she drops her pants to relieve herself. In the comment section, followers joked that SZA’s actions made perfect sense considering her deep desire to commune with nature. “She’s literally helping the plants grow,” wrote one user.

Others were simply grateful that the project seemed to have an official release date, as the upload’s captions read: “Clock starts now. Happy anniversary ‘SOS.’”

SZA’s journey to get the body of work onto streaming platforms has been met with a nightmare. From leaks to scraping it entirely, SZA fans don’t mind her humorous actions so long as the album is finally available to the public.

An official release date has not yet been shared. But last month during an appearance on Kai Cenat’s stream, SZA vowed to drop Lana “before the year is over,” which only leaves a few weeks.

In 2022, SZA released her long-awaited sophomore album SOS. Since then the chart-topping body of work has continued to set or break records. But, the “Kill Bill” singer doesn’t plan on taking another five year gap between projects.

Yesterday (November 23), SZA teased the projected timeline of her next project. During her appearance on Kai Cenat‘s livestream, SZA
promised to release her highly anticipated follow-up (viewable here). When asked about when supporters should expect it, SZA replied: “It’ll be out before the year is over.”

The announcement shocked Kai, Lizzo (who was also a special guest on the stream), and users online. SZA didn’t share any further information about the forthcoming album. However, many believe the album in question Lana, the at one-time deluxe version of SOS.

Earlier in the month, SZA gave British Vogue an update about Lana.

“I think I am making music from a more beautiful place. From a more possible place versus a more angsty place,” she said. “I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s shit that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”

After supposedly scrapping a version of the project due to leaks, Lana has experience several setbacks. Fortunately for SZA supporters, she seemingly powered through.

SZA Previews New Album “Lana” During Revealing Interview About Her Emotions

SZA recently sat down for a new interview with British Vogue, which proved to not be as controversial and hotly discussed as her Harper’s BAZAAR sit-down with Kendrick Lamar. But nevertheless, she dished out a lot of interesting revelations, emotional divulgations, and hints at the direction of her next album, Lana. It’s no longer a deluxe version to 2022’s SOS, but rather a full-on new LP following some leaks to the public that derailed its course for a bit. Fortunately, it wasn’t enough to fully throw it off track, and whenever it comes out, it’ll arrive as a highly anticipated LP. Now, we have more of an idea of how it could emotionally relate to the rest of the catalog.

“I think I am making music from a more beautiful place,” SZA told British Vogue concerning the emotional and personally artistic direction of the upcoming Lana record. “From a more possible place versus a more angsty place. I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s s**t that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”

Elsewhere during the interview, SZA also spoke on what it was like to headline Glastonbury last year. “I just felt like nothing I could do would be enough for Glastonbury, no matter what I did,” she revealed. “It scared me. I was like, well, I wish I wasn’t doing it, but I couldn’t walk away from it… I want to be the second Black woman in history, but then it’s such a f***ing tall order. It’s like, no matter what you do here, you will be subject to criticism. Because of who you are. But that’s life. That’s life, you know?”

Meanwhile, SZA’s recent conversation with British Vogue also held some more personal details and confessions, such as her reflections on getting a BBL. It was a pretty engaging and enlightening conversation from someone who’s always down to share herself in front of the world and use that power in her own personal journey. We can’t wait for what Lana has in store.

One of the most anticipated albums of 2024, or 2025, or whenever it comes out is SZA’s Lana (not to be confused with Lana Del Rey’s new album). It was originally intended as an extended version of 2022’s massive SOS, but after a few songs leaked to the public, the album has since become its own thing.

SZA gave an update on Lana in a recent interview with British Vogue.

SZA also discussed headlining Glastonbury earlier this year. “I just felt like nothing I could do would be enough for Glastonbury, no matter what I did. It scared me. I was like, well, I wish I wasn’t doing it, but I couldn’t walk away from it…” she said. “I want to be the second Black woman in history, but then it’s such a f*cking tall order. It’s like, no matter what you do here, you will be subject to criticism. Because of who you are. But that’s life. That’s life, you know?”

SZA’s Alien Get-Up For “Hot Ones” Has Fans Theorizing Its The Beginning Of Her Album Roll Out

SZA has been fending off new album demands for as long as she possibly can. Her acclaimed 2022 record SOS has tons of quality on it and its somehow still getting nominations in 2024. But her fans are ready for LANA, and we are too. However, some people may be getting a little too overzealous, at least right now anyway. According to Uproxx, the St. Louis native and First We Feast‘s show Hot Ones are getting ready to release their sit-down to YouTube in just a couple of days.

It is slated to premier on September 26, and while a SZA interview is always something special, fans seem to be more engaged with the promotional poster. The platform posted the preview to their Instagram and in it, she looks like an alien. It’s a pretty creepy sight, but going to back to that overzealous point, some see this as some sort of roll out for LANA. “OMG THE ERA IS STARTING”, one eagerly writes.

“We’re getting that album soon hopefully 😩”, another cautiously predicts. ““The ‘LANA’ tease”… “AND THE ROLLOUT BEGINS”, two others add. SZA was also in the comments and penned a cryptic but perhaps foreshadowing message in the process, “Fun times at the pain farm ❤”. All we can do is speculate for now, but hopefully, we get some album updates in the process.

What are your thoughts on SZA looking like an alien for her upcoming appearance on Hot Ones? Do you think this is straight up odd, or is it her teasing her next project? Are you going to tune in to the episode? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments.
