SZA Surprise Drops Dreamy New Single “Saturn”

SZA has once again captivated her audience with the surprise release of her latest single, “Saturn.” The track, is reportedly featured on the rumored album Lana or the potential SOS deluxe edition. It builds on the artist’s reputation for delivering music that sparks immediate excitement. The song, which was first unveiled during a Grammys commercial earlier this year, showcases SZA’s lush vocals and explores the theme of heartbreak. The opening verse sets a poignant tone, contemplating the possibility of another universe and the plea for a sign in the face of life’s challenges. SZA’s emotive delivery is hauntingly beautiful, drawing listeners into a world of introspection and yearning.

The chorus of “Saturn” takes a cosmic turn as SZA suggests that life might be better on the ringed planet. The desire to escape and break free from the patterns of heartache is notable in her lyrics. “Got to break this pattern of floatin’ away” she sings, encouraging the listener to find something worth saving. The declaration that “It’s all for the taking, I always say” suggests a sense of empowerment and agency in the midst of emotional turmoil.

“Saturn” is expected to be part of Lana or the deluxe version of SOS, SZA’s critically acclaimed sophomore album. The original release garnered nine Grammy nominations, with SZA securing three wins, including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Progressive R&B Album, and Best R&B Song. The album continued to dominate charts and critics’ lists well into the following year, solidifying SZA’s position as a powerhouse in the music industry. SZA Isn’t Fazed Over Her Grammys ‘Album Of The Year’ Loss: ‘I’m Grateful I Won Three’

Per usual, the Grammys have prompted discourse about the coveted Album Of The Year award. Many viewers were disappointed that SZA’s critically acclaimed sophomore album SOS didn’t win the award, however, SZA herself didn’t seem to be fazed.

On the night of the 2024 Grammys, SZA won three awards — Best Progressive R&B Album for SOS, Best R&B Song for “Snooze,” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her Phoebe Bridgers collaboration, “Ghost In The Machine.” In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, SZA expressed her gratitude for winning those three awards, despite not winning Album Of The Year.

“I’m grateful I won three,” SZA said. “I could have left with nothing and I didn’t, and I’m grateful. My parents got to see it and I didn’t bomb on live television, and that was so scary. And I faced some really big fears and I’m just happy that it all went well, genuinely. And I’m happy for everybody.”

Also on Grammy night, SZA delivered a killer performance of the SOS fan favorites, “Kill Bill” and “Snooze.” She also shared a new song, “Saturn,” which is said to appear on her upcoming album, LANA.

When asked about the new album, SZA remained tight-lipped, noting that she doesn’t want the energy of the album to change.

“I’m just kind of here while energy is forming and I’m just trying to allow it to do what it needs to do, and my voice just follows whatever the frequency is,” she said. “So I feel like I want to allow it to finish shaping itself and form itself before I speak on it and possibly change the trajectory of what it could be. But I will say I’m in a beautiful space creatively and I feel just very new.”

When Does SZA’s ‘Lana’ Deluxe Album Come Out?

Over a year after its release, SZA’s sophomore album, SOS, still has the music charts in a chokehold. On February 4, it even took home multiple awards at the 2024 Grammys, including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Ghost in the Machine” featuring Phoebe Bridgers, Best R&B Song for “Snooze,” and Best Progressive R&B Album.

But SZA is ready to kick off a new era of music by way of her forthcoming Lana.

When Does SZA’s ‘Lana’ Deluxe Album Come Out?

According to fan-circulated rumors across X (formerly Twitter), Lana will hit streaming platforms on February 9. However, the reports are too good to be true. After several posts and deletes from fan pages, SZA has denied the claims.

In a message exchange with a fan, SZA laughed off the rumors. “I just liked the photo,” she wrote. “LMAO, it’s not coming out on 2/9. I’m sorry, lmao. I like jerseys.”

The photograph in question was uploaded by a fan who attended a private event curated by SZA, apparently during pre-Grammys festivities this year. Attendees believed the numbers on the two models’ wardrobes were a subtle confirmation.

Still, SZA, her manager Terrence ‘Punch’ Henderson, nor her record label Top Dawg Entertainment have confirmed the release date for Lana. In fact, they might’ve suggested that delays could be on the horizon following leaks.

But during the 2024 Grammys broadcast, SZA partnered with Mastercard to preview the song “Saturn,” set to appear on the Lana.

SZA has had an incredible night at the 2024 Grammy Awards tonight (February 4). During a special performance from the Grammy House, the prolific hitmaker — who already won two Grammys tonight, for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her Phoebe Bridgers collaboration, “Ghost In The Machine” and Best R&B Performance for “Snooze” — debuted a new song, “Saturn” from her upcoming album, Lana.

On the song, SZA laments her time in an environmentally unconscious world.

“Stuck in this paradigm / Don’t believe in paradise / This must be what hell is like / There’s got to be more, got to be more Sick of this head of minе / Intrusive thoughts, they paralyze / Thе fun is done, to summarize,” she sings on the song’s hook.

The accompanying advertisement features SZA joined by dancers, moving to the music in a greenscape. It ends with SZA announcing her partnership with MasterCard and the Priceless Planet Coalition. The Priceless Planet Coalition aims to restore 100 million trees in forests around the world that have the greatest potential positive impact on the climate, for communities and for nature.

“It takes more than one person or one company to create scaled impact for the planet,” said Rustom Dastoor, EVP of Marketing and Communications, Mastercard North America, in a statement. “Music does more than unite us, it inspires us to take action. Through our GRAMMY Awards campaign, we are merging passion and purpose in a way that, through a major cultural event, rallies people to come together through the power of music to create collective action for the planet.”

SZA Murders The 2024 Grammy Awards Audience With A Performance Of Her Hit Songs ‘Snooze’ And ‘Kill Bill’

As the most nominated artist of the 2024 Grammy Awards, all eyes are on SZA. Just days before the coveted ceremony, The Recording Academy announced that the “Snooze” singer would take the stage. During her sit down with Apple Music, SZA confessed that she initially got into music to her naysayers wrong.

But after reaching massive success, SZA is well beyond that, and her Grammy performance proved that. After pulling out of the 2023 VMAs, her onstage set during the 2024 Grammys carried that much more weight. SZA knocked it out of the park without skipping a beat, performing her first No. 1 song and hit single “Kill Bill,” along with some of “Snooze.”

In May 2023, SZA shared a touching note after learning of the milestone. “Took me over a week to process ’cause I dreamt of this my entire career,” she said. “It didn’t feel real, lol, and still doesn’t. But I wanna say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. Every person, every fan base, every ear that listened and pushed for me. Can’t believe we have a number 1 record.”

At the 2024 Grammys, SZA is up for nine awards, including Album of the Year (SOS), Song and Record of the Year (“Kill Bill”), Best Progressive R&B Album (SOS), Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Love Language”), Best R&B Song (“Snooze”), Best R&B Performance (“Kill Bill”), Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Low”) and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Ghost in the Machine”).

SZA Slams People Leaking Her Songs Ahead Of The Singer’s ‘Lana’ Deluxe Album Release

SZA’s year is off to a rough start. Instead of enjoying the lingering effects of her record-breaking accomplishments last year, the “Snooze” singer has been forced to combat leakers.

“Leaking my music is stealing,” wrote SZA. “This is my job. This is my life and my intellectual property. You are a f*cking thief, and I promise to put maximum energy into holding everyone accountable to the full extent of the law. I am tired.”

Unfortunately, SZA is no stranger to having her unreleased work illegally shared with the public. During a sit-down with Variety in November, she discussed the devastating effects of leaking an artist’s music.

“When people leak my songs, they ruin them,” she said. “Then it’s not mine anymore; it’s actually yours. It’s something unfinished that you decided was ready to be shared. And it’s like, ‘F*ck you. Now I’m not releasing it.’ Play your leak, but you’re not gonna bully me into dropping music. I’m now embarrassed by this less-than-correct version that you put out. You’ve sent me into a weird space creatively when you could have just waited for me, but you’re selfish.”

SZA has officially had enough, and her post on X was her way of putting those individuals on notice.

SZA Rants About Music Leaks: “This Is My Life”

SZA expressed her frustration over recent music leaks on Twitter, Saturday night. In a post written fully in caps, she called the latest leaker a “f*cking thief” and threatened to take legal action.

“LEAKING MY MUSIC IS STEALING,” SZA began. “THIS IS MY JOB. THIS IS MY LIFE AND MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. YOU ARE A F*CKING THIEF AND I PROMISE TO PUT MAXIMUM ENERGY INTO HOLDING EVERYONE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW. I AM TIRED.”

SZA’s comments on music leaks come as she continues to prepare for the release of her next project, Lana. While it originally started as a deluxe version of SOS, she told Variety that it’s now beginning to feel like a full album. “It’s definitely turning into its own album… and I guess I could drop a new album randomly, because no one’s actually expecting that from me right now,” she told the outlet. “But I can’t tell if now’s the time to be consistent, or carefree. On the one hand it’s like, ‘What would Beyonce do?,’ but I am also deeply inspired by people who do whatever the fuck they want, like Frank Ocean and Andre 3000. Some of my favorite songs were the ones that I dropped on SoundCloud [early in her career], because it was so stress free.” Check out her full response to the leaks below.

Back in 2022, SZA released her sophomore album, SOS, five years after dropping her debut album, Ctrl. But it looks like fans won’t have to wait that much longer for the SOS follow-up. In an interview with Variety, SZA teased Lana, a special deluxe edition of SOS, which, since its inception, has evolved into its own body of work.

“It’s outtakes [from SOS] and new stuff, too — I added a couple of songs,” SZA said. “It’s like a whole new project. It’s called Lana — my name but, it’s the first tattoo that I ever got, when I was 13. It was 10 bucks a letter and I only had 40, so that that became my nickname for no reason. Lana is really just the B-side of SOS.

Here is everything we know about Lana so far.

SZA announced that the deluxe version of her album, SOS, will be titled Lana. Given the massive success of the record already, fans are excited to see what else she has in store.

“It’s outtakes and new stuff, too — I added a couple of songs,” SZA previously shared to Variety. “It’s like a whole new project. It’s called ‘Lana’ — my name but, it’s the first tattoo that I ever got, when I was 13. It was 10 bucks a letter and I only had 40, so that that became my nickname for no reason. ‘Lana’ is really just the B-side of SOS.”

Here’s everything to know about the extended release.

SZA’s Lana Album Artwork

Earlier this week, SZA put out three possible options for the cover art for Lana on social media. SZA Says She Prefers Writing About “Embarrassing” Experiences: “I Get Bored”

SZA says that she is bored of writing any songs she doesn’t feel are vulnerable. Reflecting on her process during a recent interview with Variety, SZA explained how she likes music that is “super embarrassing.”

“I guess it’s because I get bored as f*ck writing about anything that isn’t, like, super embarrassing,” SZA told Variety. “And I feel like those things that I don’t want to say or acknowledge about myself are (songwriting) material – if it interests me to the point where it’s worth the risk.” From there, she explained that she prefers to sing about the subtler parts of her life. “There’s mad aspects to my life,” SZA said. “But people don’t really know that because all I sing about are the hidden aspects that I think are more interesting. Honestly, I could write about jet-skiing with my friends, but I don’t want to make a song about that, and I don’t want to hear a song about it either.”
