Kid Cudi Launches His New Live Music App Encore After Securing $9 Million In Funding

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Kid Cudi launched Encore in October 2020. The mobile app’s vision is to help artists share music, interact with fans, and host live shows. This week, Encore launched the Encore Studio App after getting $9 million in seed funding.

This is the second mobile application under the Encore umbrella, the first being Encore’s Interactive Live Music app for the fans, and now, the Encore Studio: Live Music AR app, which will allow artists to perform for fans by way of augmented reality through mobile devices.

“Music artists are the original creators and they have been forgotten by the creator economy and overrun by memes and algorithms on social media,” Jonathan Gray, CEO of Encore, said in a statement. “Our live AR technology empowers any artist to create personalized content and host experiences for their fans without a production budget or crew and make real cash with 100’s of engaged fans.”

The $9 million dollar funding comes from Battery Ventures, along with 468 Capital, Parade Ventures, Nomade Ventures, Moving Capital, Kayak Ventures, and Gaingels. During its beta stage, artists like Too Short, Kyle, and DC The Don performed shows via Encore. Fans were able to support the artists through microtransactions in the form of a 10-cent “clap.”

“My number one priority has always been inspiring others and providing them the space to tell their own stories in an authentic and meaningful way,” said Cudi in a statement. “We created Encore as a space for artists to share their art, build community, while also being able to pay their rent.”

Kanye West Likens His Battles Against Pete Davidson, Kim Kardashian, Kid Cudi, And More To Marvel’s ‘Civil War’

On Saturday, Kanye West shared some news about Kid Cudi in regards to Donda 2. “Just so everyone knows Cudi will not be on Donda because he’s friends with you know who,” he wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post. “We all speak Billie language now.” Kanye didn’t specify who he was referring to as “you know who,” but all signs pointed to none other than Pete Davidson. If that wasn’t enough, Kanye used a strange meme to essentially declare war on Davidson, Cudi, and others.

The now-deleted Instagram post saw Kanye putting his own spin on the movie poster for Marvel’s 2016 film Captain America: Civil War. Kanye, who assumes the role of Captain America, places the following heads on the opposing superheroes: Pete Davidson, Kim Kardashian, Kid Cudi, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift. Each person is someone Kanye has issues with, whether it dates back to last week or a decade ago.

As for his own team, Kanye has recruited Julia Fox, Future, Drake, and Travis Scott to help him fight back. Kanye also captioned the picture, “THE INTERNET HAS STILL NOT FOUND A DECENT PICTURE OF SKETE,” which is yet another example of Kanye speaking about Davidson without using his name. The caption also confirms that he did not create the meme.

Kanye West Says He Won’t Put Kid Cudi On ‘Donda 2’ And Kid Cudi Called Him A ‘Dinosaur’ In Response

Kanye West’s eleventh album, Donda 2, is slated to arrive on February 22. It remains to be seen if the album will be released on that day, as the rapper has a chronic history of failing to stick to release dates. We’ve yet to receive an official list of collaborators for the album, but names like Future and Marilyn Manson have come up. One person we won’t hear on Donda 2 is Kid Cudi. The two have worked together numerous times, but according to a recent Instagram post from Kanye, he won’t be putting Cudi on his upcoming album.

In the post, Kanye shared an image of a handwritten note that read, “Just so everyone knows Cudi will not be on Donda because he’s friends with you know who.” He added, “We all speak Billie language now.” While Kanye didn’t specify who “you know who” refers to, many have concluded that it’s Pete Davidson, who’s with Cudi. Additionally, Kanye tagged Kim Kardashian and Michael Che from SNL, which Davidson also appears on, thus making it quite obvious that Kanye was indeed referring to Davidson.

Shortly after the message was shared, Cudi responded to Kanye’s words in the comment section of the post. “Too bad I dont wanna be on ur album u f*ckin dinosaur hahaha,” he wrote with a laughing emoji. “Everyone knows ive been the best thing about ur albums since i met u. Ima pray [for u] brother [peace out emoji].”
