Rowland, the four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, actress and television executive producer, served last year as the program’s ambassador and as an advocate for the students. She shared personal insights, drawing from her own unique experience as a pre-teen performer, then as a teenager in one of the best-selling female groups of all time, Destiny’s Child.

Surrounded by her mother, her entire school amid a sea of confetti, Mosope Aina, an aspiring neurosurgeon, was surprised by Mickey Mouse and Disney Dreamers Academy executive champion Tracey Powell on national TV at her school in Newark, N.J. with the news of her selection to Disney Dreamers Academy at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The 100 students from across the country will descend on Walt Disney World Resort March 23-26 for the 16th annual event, aimed at broadening career awareness and creating exclusive opportunities for Black students and teens from underrepresented communities across America.

Since 2008, Disney Dreamers Academy has inspired more than 1,500 students from across the country by fueling their dreams and showing them a world of possibilities as they prepare for their futures. In the years following, graduates have become storytellers, artists, engineers, innovators, journalists and more, and have transitioned into mentors to the Disney Dreamers who follow them.

“We’re ready to welcome another outstanding group of teens from across the country for our 16th year!” said Tracey Powell. “They are going to have the experience of a lifetime, setting them on a journey to go out and achieve their dreams, just like the classes who came before them.”

Each year, the Disney Dreamers are selected from thousands of applicants who answer essay questions about their personal stories and dreams for the future. The students and a parent or guardian enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida for the four-day event.

Method Man Apologized For Disrespecting Destiny’s Child In 2001: ‘Y’all Did Not Deserve That, At All’

Method Man, who recently won an NAACP Image Award for his role on Power Book II: Ghost, stopped by for an interview on the My Expert Opinion podcast with Math Hoffa. During his time there, Method spoke about his past struggles with “low self-esteem” and how it affected his relationships with artists in the music industry. “I didn’t like myself, so I didn’t like anybody f*cking else,” he said. “So that meant anything that would have come in my circumference at that point in time was gonna get it. My family went through a lot with my ass during that era, man.”

He continued, “And I can admit that I did take a lot of my f*cking misery out on them, and they did not deserve it. And I took some of my misery out on people at Def Jam that did not f*cking deserve it.” Meth went on share a story about how he once disrespected Destiny’s Child back in 2001 at Janet Jackson’s MTV Icon special. “We were at Janet Jackson’s Icon and I remember I had just come off stage and where we were sitting, there were nothing but VIPs. We had *NSYNC up here, Destiny’s Child right there, Tommy Lee was over here, [Pamela Anderson],” he said.

Meth went on, “And I see the girls, so I kinda moseyed out of my seat to go over and say what’s up to them. Now, this is still me in my low self-esteem era. But I’m thinking like, comfort zone here, I’m gonna say what’s up to the girls. I love them, I’m just gonna say hi. I go over to say hi to them and when I said hi, they didn’t even turn around and acknowledge me.” He then shared how he reacted after this moment.

“Now, my ass, in my head, with my low self-esteem is like, ‘They just sh*tted on me.’ When in fact, they didn’t even hear me. It was so loud in that motherf*cker. That’s the excuse that I’m giving right now—they didn’t even f*cking hear me. Afterward, Rockwilder, he was gonna do the ‘Bootylicious’ song for them. He comes over, he’s talking to them, he’s like, ‘Oh, you know Red and Meth?’ And they put their hands out to shake, and I kept my hand here and was like, ‘Go ’head with that Hollywood sh*t.’”

.
Method acknowledged that “neither Kelly, Beyoncé, or Michelle ever did any-f*cking-thing to me,” and then delivered a long-overdue apology for the incident. “I apologize to Beyoncé, I apologize to Kelly Rowland, and Michelle — y’all did not deserve that, at all.”

You can watch Meth detail the whole incident in the video above.

Kelly Rowland Said Destiny’s Child Would Never ‘Play With Anybody’ With Reunion Teasers

Practically ever since the group broke up, Destiny’s Child fans have been dying for the girl group to reunite. But after they actually did during Beyonce’s rather infamous Coachella headlining set, the hopefulness has been increased exponentially. And maybe after seeing the reaction to their return to the stage, this trio is actually considering a tour. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight about her new children’s book, Always With You, Always With Me, Kelly Rowland was put on the spot about the group, and though she’s an expert at dodging the question, still had at least a few things to say about it.

“We love everybody so much that we wouldn’t toy with it, but I do think that… you would deserve a surprise,” she said. “I feel like everything is just so planned so we see it before it happens and we see the process right after it happens. It’s just a lot, like, we deserve spontaneity, we desire to be surprised and I would hope Destiny’s Child would be a pleasant surprise.”

So, this is a Beyonce self-titled level of secrecy and when it drops we’ll all be that shocked? Is that what she said? Or was it just a coy brushoff… Well now that Kelly is done with this book, maybe it’s time to get back onstage.

Kelly Rowland Reveals “Like a Boy” Was Originally Written for Her

Kelly Rowland Reveals Pregnancy in Women's Health Magazine Cover Shoot

Kelly Rowland has had a long run in the music industry as we have watched her emerge from the dynamic girl group Destiny’s Child to a rising solo artist with hits such as “Lay it on Me,” “Kisses Down Low,” “ICE” and more.

Just last year, after releasing her single “Coffee,” Rowland would sign a management deal with Roc Nation. “It just really happened to work and it’s working out really well so far. My team, I have a great team. It’s not to say I didn’t have a great team before, had a great team before. You evolve, you move on and that’s really it and Roc Nation is home now.”

In a recent interview, Rowland revealed that Ciara’s “Like a Boy” was originally written for her after being asked if Destiny Child had a song given to someone else.  “Not that I know of that I know of. That’s happened to me personally and I didn’t find out till much later,” Rowland stated. “‘Like a Boy,’ that was Ciara’s, was actually written for me.”

“Funny enough, she is honestly one of the closest things to me. We bonded over motherhood. I wonder if she knows that,” she continued. “I’ll make sure to call her after this. But yeah, it was so funny. I found that out later and I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ The writers and producers told me and they were like, ‘Yeah, we wrote that in your session.’ I was like, ‘No, you didn’t.’ I was so mad. But now I’m happy for my girl.”

While Rowland may have had the single first, there is no doubt that Ciara’s vocals and performance brought the song to life. Ciara released “Like a Boy” in 2006. Her music visual for the single was nominated in 2007 for “Best Choreography” at MTV’s VMAs and “Video of the Year” at the BET Awards.
