Keke Palmer Wants The #MeToo Movement To Come For The Music Industry

Keke Palmer says that the #MeToo movement needs to come for the music industry. She discussed her experiences with sexism in the business for a new interview with PEOPLE, ahead of her next album, Big Boss. While she admits bad things are happening everywhere, the music industry has it worse than any industry.

“We know bad things happen in all of them, but it’s almost like the acting world represents a union and the music industry represents non-union,” the Nope actor began. “It’s happening in the actor world but eventually, it’s going to come to a damn halt. Somebody’s going to get called out. Something’s going to happen. At some point, we’re going to come to some kind of understanding. ”

She continued: “With music, it’s like everybody is being paid, and everybody’s a crooked cop. So, it seems like nothing will ever really come to a head.” Palmer says that women have to learn to stand up for themselves from “being in bad situations.” She added: “It almost feels like it’s a coming-of-age story for a woman.”

“Being a woman is like, ‘Damn, the biggest mistake you can make is trusting somebody.’ Damn, I just shouldn’t have trusted someone?” she explained. “I wish that there was more that we could do, but it seems like we can’t even really expect for people to respect our boundaries.” Palmer noted that she’s nearly left the music industry entirely but seems to always “somehow find herself back again.”

The origin of the MeToo movement traces back to sexual assault victim and activist Tarana Burke on MySpace in 2006. The phrase was started to raise awareness about abuse, harassment, and rape culture. It became a viral hashtag in 2017 as countless women came forward to expose predatory behavior in Hollywood.

Keke Palmer Drops First Full Album In A Decade, “Big Boss”

Keke Palmer has proven herself time and time again to be a multi-talented individual. She excels in singing, acting, and dancing. Keke rose to fame as the lead of the Nickelodeon show, True Jackson, VP, and has since garnered an Emmy Award for her acting skills. Her career has seen her take on significant roles in movies and TV shows, like her critically-lauded turn in Jordan Peele’s Nope. As time has gone on, Keke has managed to carve out a special place for herself in the industry. Even with her reputation as a living meme, she is taken very seriously as an actress and an artist. That kind of balance is not something just anyone can strike.

Keke Palmer’s fans have eagerly anticipated her project, Big Boss, for quite some time. The new effort is based on her personal experiences, drawing from her career as an actress and a singer. The album is accompanied by a 40-minute film. It features scenes inspired by Keke’s personal life. It is both entertaining and emotional – a perfect companion to the album, which can be described using the same adjectives.

Keke Details Her Journey To Self-Realization

Keke Palmer’s Big Boss opens strong with the track “Views.” On it, she sings about wondering if someone sees her in the same way she sees him. “I’m just tryna view,” she croons. “If you see me in the same light as you.” The album has very few low points, if any. The songs are as catchy as they come, too. “Love Language” is exactly the kind of R&B-Pop crossover that the summer needs. The album is impressive. Furthermore, Keke’s writing, direction, and performance in the Big Boss film only cement her status as an iconic, multi-faceted artist.

In the film, Keke takes on the male-dominated music industry and points out problems that are still very real for women in 2023. A music producer character in the film says, “They always want some sh*t, but they don’t wanna give some sh*t.” Of course, he is suggesting that women must sleep with him for the “honor” of having him produce their song. Around the halfway point, Keke reflects on interactions like this. “Silly me,” she narrates. “For thinking they would ever f*ck with me just off of the strength of my talent.” It’s a sobering scene that shows just how much the singer has had to deal with. Thankfully, she has come out on the other side stronger for it and producing great art like Big Boss and its accompanying film. What do you think of Keke Palmer’s new album? Keke Palmer On The Queen Of Rap: “I Talked To Nicki [Minaj]… I Didn’t Record It Though”

Now that she’s bounced back from giving birth to her first baby at the beginning of the year, the media can’t get enough of Keke Palmer. Not only is the 29-year-old preparing for the arrival of her highly anticipated Big Boss project tomorrow (May 12), but she was also recently honoured by the Los Angeles LGBT Center for her contributions to the community. Somewhere in between all of that, Palmer found time to sit down with Complex, at which time she and host Speedy Mormon chopped it up about everyone from Nicki Minaj to Drake.

Speaking on the former, the Chicago native confirmed that she and the Queen of Rap have previously been in contact throughout their careers, though they have yet to collaborate on a project together. “I talked to Nicki a few times,” Palmer told Speedy. When he pressed her for more details surrounding the dynamic of their relationship, the Hustlers actress let out a laugh and avoided spilling too much tea. “I talked to Nicki, I didn’t record it though,” she said, seemingly throwing shade at some up-and-coming rap divas who have previously leaked audio from their calls with Minaj.

Keke Palmer Reflects on Nicki Minaj Conversations

Elsewhere in her interview, Keke reflected on meeting Drake in their younger days. She got her start on projects like Jump In! and True Jackson VP as a child and teenager while the Canadian was first known for playing Jimmy on Degrassi before becoming the rap legend we know him as today. Of course, she keeps us laughing with plenty of jokes and juicy details about her experiences on dating apps before linking up with her current partner, Darius Jackson.

The young couple are parents to baby Leodis Andrelton and have been proudly showing off their son – as well as their love for each other – on social media since his birth, much to fan’s pleasure. Keke Palmer Opens Up About “Big Boss” Autobiographical Projects

Keke Palmer is a versatile singer and actor. Breaking out as a Nickelodeon star as the lead of True Jackson, VP, she has gone on to become an Emmy Award-winning actress. Furthermore, she has scared in major TV and film roles such as Scream Queens, Nope, and Lightyear.

Fans are getting hyped about Keke Palmer’s upcoming autobiographical projects, Big Boss. Big Boss will be comprised of an album and a film based on Palmer’s life experiences. Both are scheduled for release on May 12. Palmer sat down with Gayle King on CBS Mornings to discuss everything about the upcoming release.

Palmer Talks “Big Boss” And Family Life

“From my perspective, I experienced a lot of misogyny and also just insecurities… We all have these narratives that we tell ourselves. My first record deal at 12 years old with Atlantic Records told me that I was always going to have it hard in music. The movie is about me overcoming that narrative and understanding I’m always enough, Palmer said of the film Big Boss. She also reflected on her relationship with her mother, “Yes, so she started off as my acting coach, my manager and now she’s my business partner and those things are great, right. I’m so blessed to have not only a great parent but a passion shared with a parent, but the reality is, is that my job also became overwhelming for me.”

She continued. “I started to feel so much pressure for everything my parents sacrificed for me to do what I did and so then it became a painful kind of bond because it reminded me of what I felt like I sacrificed and what I could be losing.” Palmer also spoke about her family life, “I’m ready to go home now. There’s nothing more exciting than lookin’ at your little baby boy.” Palmer gave birth to her son Leo on February 25. Palmer also walked the red carpet at the recent Met Gala in a custom Sergio Hudson gown. “You were a grown-ass woman on the carpet!” to which Keke Palmer replied “Come on girl! Yaaaaasssss!!” Big Boss, both the film and album, drop on May 12.

Keke Palmer’s Twitch Stream Is The Gift That Keeps Giving

Twitch continues to be an enticing place for celebrities that want more interaction with their fans. We’ve seen folks like T-Pain, Mike Shinoda, Snoop Dogg, and more on the platform. Now, the multi-talented actress and musician Keke Palmer, who starred in Jordan Peele’s critically acclaimed film Nope, is the latest celebrity to hop on the streaming train.

If there’s one thing Palmer knows how to do, it’s stay busy in her creative life. While only 29 years old, she’s been a working Hollywood actress for almost two decades. She first appeared in 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back in Business and followed it up two years later with a starring role as Akeelah in Akeelah And The Bee.

Since then, she’s done everything from long-running television shows, Broadway productions, and music albums, most recently starting her digital platform for Black content creators looking to showcase their work, KeyTV.

After announcing her pregnancy in late 2022 on Saturday Night Live, Palmer began filling her time off from acting by catching up on playing video games, especially Sims 4. On her Twitch bio, she talks about this briefly, “i got on here because i got preggers and started spending more time at home which got me back into playing the sims. my followers wanted to see my game play and now we hereeee.”

Before starting her Twitch channel, she’d dabbled in live streaming her gaming exploits on Instagram. On her IG, Palmer began going live and narrating the ridiculous antics her Sims got into on her most recent play sessions. Palmer has a keen eye for creating viral moments on social media, something that translates well to what she hopes to help other Black creators do with KeyTV.

Quickly, clips from her streams went viral on Twitter and other social media platforms, showcasing the funny hijinks she got into with her characters. After a large push from her fans, Palmer set up a Twitch channel in February of 2023 and began streaming.

On Palmer’s Twitch channel, simply called “Keke,” she streams everything from video games she plays (mainly Sims but other titles like Tekken and Detroit: Become Human), karaoke, cooking, and general hangouts to catch up with her audience. She writes more about this in her bio, “i like role playing obvi, i like fighting games, i like decision based games too.. but im into many things outside of gaming because i get bored v easily haha. i like trying new things, diy stuff, karaoke, stand up(light weight haha), reviewing reality tv, reviewing movies, documentaries, conspiracies!”

Palmer’s streams are lowkey and fairly irregular given her busy schedule, but when she does go live, you can expect a no-holds-barred look into who she is as a person when she’s not on the silver screen. On one of her most recent broadcasts, she streamed the narrative, choose your own adventure game Detroit: Become Human which centers around the various lives of androids who are becoming sentient in a future Detroit.

https://m.twitch.tv/videos/1789587125

The infectious charm and wit she brings to her characters on screen are given a different light on stream. In her Detroit: Become Human live stream, chaos quickly ensued as Palmer and her partner, Darius Jackson, ate takeout while trying to figure out how to play the game which features complex button inputs.

What’s interesting about Palmer’s streams is how her immense knowledge of acting and direction comes through in how she engages with the games she plays. As if on cue, Palmer and Jackson fall into character while playing Detroit, giving their own voice acting to the cinematic scenes. A particularly hilarious moment occurs as Palmer controls her android character, dodging an assailant while she gets more and more on edge trying to keep up with the button prompts.

This is shown even more when she plays the Sims 4. Palmer creates in-depth storylines for all of the characters she creates that highlight insanely funny situations you’d expect in an evening sitcom. “This is the storyline,” she says to the viewers before telling a detailed backstory about the messy relationships her characters have. Upon giving the setup for the predicament her characters are in, she proceeds to voice all of them in their respective voices to an absurdly funny extent.

It’s rare that audiences get such an intimate look into the life and persona of their favorite celebrities. While we are certainly living in the age of over-stimulation and social media fatigue, watching Palmer on stream is a much different experience than seeing a clip of a post on a social media platform. Palmer’s Twitch streams further confirm what her on-screen performances already suggest — she is one of the world’s best at blending humor with drama today, no matter the medium.

Darius Jackson Films Keke Palmer’s Twerking Booty For Instagram, Thanks Their Son For “Transforming” Her Body

Keke Palmer has been linked to a handful of famous figures romantically throughout her long-spanning career, including Quincy Brown, YG, and Ty Dolla $ign. While she didn’t have much luck finding the love of her dreams in those partnerships, the 29-year-old has since settled down with Darius Jackson, who she began dating in 2021. After a little more than a year together, the True Jackson VP actress became pregnant with their first child, who was born earlier this year.

Prior to little Leodis’ conception, Palmer kept her romance mostly quiet, though everything she’s said about her co-parent has been incredibly positive. While awaiting her due date, she slowly began sharing more of their life together, revealing that her goofy personality is perfectly matched by his charm. Now that they’ve stepped into parenthood, Jackson and his girl have been publicly documenting many of their adventures, as well as the noteworthy changes they’ve experienced since starting this new chapter. For Keke, one of the biggest things has been changes to her body, which both she and Darius are obviously loving.

Darius Jackson Hypes Up His Baby Mama

The Chicago native previously bragged about her naturally enhanced breasts and behind in an IG post, but now, it’s Leodis’ father’s turn to marvel at her beauty. “My son [done] transformed @keke,” Jackson wrote on his Story on Saturday (April 29). In the accompanying video, we see Palmer standing in a cheetah-print jumpsuit, back turned to her man as she casually shakes her booty for him. “Y’all see this work?” he proudly asked as his partner laughed and continued munching on a snack.

The footage came after the lovers made their red carpet debut with Leo at the screening of the Disney alum’s upcoming project. KP celebrated with a commemorative photo dump of her own on Sunday, expressing plenty of gratitude for everyone involved in the caption. “So happy that my LO was able to attend, being with him is all that’s ever on my mind. He is also my BBL doctor because honey this body???! Don’t talk to me. I’m different now! I’s a woman hahahahahaha,” she also joked in the post. Keke Palmer’s Son, Leodis, Makes First Red Carpet Appearance With Mom & Dad

It was just a few months ago that Keke Palmer bravely welcomed her first child, Leodis Andrelton Jackson, into the world. Already, however, the young boy is making is red carpet debut alongside his famous mother and her boyfriend, Darius Jackson. The couple stepped out for the closing night screening of her upcoming Big Boss visual album during the 2023 Atlanta Film Festival, both Leo and his father rocking all-black outfits for their first major public appearance together.

While the boys kept it casual with their looks, Palmer was as extra as ever in a cheetah-print jumpsuit that perfectly hugs her “new body.” As you may recall, the Jump In! starlet previously boasted on Instagram about how the months following pregnancy have seen major changes in her body. Specifically, she’s happy to see natural enhancements in her chest, hips, and booty area, which Palmer admits she lacked confidence in in the past.

Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson Step Out with Little Leo

While motherhood is obviously the main thing on her agenda at this time, fans are happy to see the Chicago native continuing her streak of keeping busy. Keke Palmer Gives Keys to Post-Baby Body Bounce Back: ‘Do Whatever Regimen Works For You’

Keke Palmer 2

Keke Palmer is giving the keys to new motherhood. Speaking with PEOPLE for their Beautiful Issue, Palmer gave the necessary notes on how to “bounce back” after delivering a baby.

“There’s always this thing of, ‘How’d they do it?’ And I think for me, the main thing I would say to any new mom is do what you can when you can, whatever it is that makes you feel good,” Palmer said.

“If it’s important to you, then hell yeah put in the work miss girl. Get you whatever diet you want to do or whatever workout regimen that works for you. And if that’s not what you’re worried about, then don’t worry about it,” she continues, adding that the most important thing is that each individual does what they deem necessary to “feel good.”

You can read the full story here.

Keke Palmer is also gearing up for a new album as she adapts to motherhood, releasing her new single “Waiting” from her forthcoming album Big Boss. The single comes equipped with a new music video.

“Waiting” is about a relationship where one member gives more than the other. The inner struggle of a lady who is threatening to leave but is stopped by love is portrayed in the song. Two people are shown in love in the music video, but dramatic events start to happen when one of them betrays the other. The video, which Keke Palmer directed, beautifully combines music and cinematic scenes, making “Waiting” the ideal accompaniment for a challenging love and loss tale.

“I am thrilled to share my new music video ‘Waiting’ and upcoming visual album ‘Big Boss’ with my fans. ‘Waiting’ is a story that most people can relate to, dealing with the highs and lows of being in an uneven relationship. I wanted to bring the lyrics to life through a suspenseful storyline and visually stunning moments that take the audience on a ride and inspire them to ‘boss up’ exactly where they are right now,” Keke Palmer said to PopSugar.

The highly anticipated Big Boss visual album from Keke Palmer, the artist behind the popular Virgo Tendencies EP, will be released in 2020. The album tells the incredible true story of Keke Palmer, a young Chicagoan who overcame great obstacles in the heavily male-dominated music business.

Keke Palmer On Her Sexuality: “I Always Felt Like I Was A Little Bit Of Everything”

The main focus in Keke Palmer’s life as of late has been her son, Leodis. She and her boyfriend Darius Jackson welcomed the little one earlier this year. Motherhood has, of course, come with its share of tough moments and lessons. Still, the former Disney star continues to carry herself with confidence and optimism. As she inches closer to resuming work as an actress and entertainer, Palmer is being formally recognized for her various contributions. Most recently, the LGBTQ community is singing her praises. As Variety notes, she was honoured on Saturday (April 22) with a Vanguard Award from the Los Angeles LGBT Center, presented to her by Queer Eye star Karamo Brown.

“I’m so grateful to be here today. To be embraced by a community that I’ve always felt accepted by and a part of,” the Chicago native gushed on stage this weekend. “I’ve always been my own person. Sexuality and identity for me has always been confusion. You know, it’s, ‘I never felt straight enough. I never felt gay enough. And I never felt woman enough. I never felt man enough.’ You know, I always felt like I was a little bit of everything,” she additionally expressed.

Elsewhere in her speech, Palmer spoke about “leading with masculinity” in life. According to her, this is something that has impacted her career and personal life. “As a woman, I’ve always been met with so much disdain. You know what I mean?” the multi-talent asked the audience. “I think so much of that came from who I thought I had to be to get respect, admiration and love. And I’ve always really wanted to be like my father. To want to be taken seriously and not diminish because I was a woman. You know, that’s always been a source of — I guess you would say — pain and resentment.”

Following the ceremony, Keke Palmer shared a heartfelt Instagram photo dump on Sunday (April 23), further reflecting on what the Vanguard Award means to her. “It was such a gift to be in a room, being celebrated for being exactly who I am. I am so grateful you guys to be living in this time, where yes there is still so much work to do, but dammit we doing it!” she proudly exclaimed. “I am truly filled with so much gratitude, I tried so hard not to ruin my makeup but the tear ducts were giving out.” Read everything the 29-year-old had to say on social media below and check back later for more pop culture news updates.
