Kanye West Attends Church Amid “Missing” Rumours: Report

Last year, Kanye West was almost constantly in the headlines. Whether for feuding with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, or proclaiming his adoration for Hitler and his Nazis, there was no shortage of drama attached to the father of four’s name throughout 2022.

As December came to a close, however, reports surfaced claiming that the rapper is missing. According to his former business manager, Thomas St. John, Ye has been unreachable for several weeks now.

Some initially speculated that the 45-year-old could just be laying low after a chaotic year. Others immediately expressed their concerns. After so many tumultuous headlines surrounding West for months, the sudden silence feels undeniably jarring to fans.

Now one week into 2023, the father of four’s name began making rounds on Twitter. Specifically, people questioned where he could possibly be. “So are Britney Spears and Kanye West for real missing??” one user asked, addressing another ongoing dark pop culture theory regarding the “Gimme More” singer.

According to, to another tweet, Ye may be safe and sound in his happy place – church. “Eagle-eyed fans of [the Yeezy founder] spotted [him] at church after some time of missing rumours,” a post from Saturday (January 7) says.

In the accompanying photo, a man closely resembling West is seen wearing an army green jacket and a baseball cap with jeans. He stands with at least two other men, with reports stating they were conversation at the chapel.

At this time, it remains unclear if the apparent image of the Atlanta-born creative is recent. Following St. John’s prior claims, many accused him of spreading “fake news.”

Last month he revealed in court that Ye went missing as his former manager was attempting to sue him for breach of contract. The former reportedly agreed to pay the latter a $300K monthly retainer, though an “aggressive” meeting between the two ended those payments.

“[St. John] needed a guarantee that [West] wouldn’t abruptly abandon the commercial relationship, in addition to the financial costs and hazards associated with committing to [Kanye West] as client,” a lawsuit obtained by AllHipHop says. “But Mr. St. John offered to settle for a contract lasting at least 18 months.”

Twitter Reacts To North Dressing Up As Kanye West In TikTok

North West and Kim Kardashian have been very active on TikTok lately, often posting funny videos and dance routines on the social media platform. But this time around, the 9-year-old is having a viral moment after dressing like her dad Kanye West.

Wearing makeup that gave her a bearded look with thicker eyebrows, North essentially became Kanye’s twin in the transformation. She offered her best Kanye impression as she folded her arms while rocking a black hoodie and beanie hat.

With “Bound 2” playing over the video, Kardashian posed in the background of the clip before putting her arm around her daughter.

As with most of their TikTok videos, the comments were turned off. Still, many took to Twitter to express their opinion of the short video, which currently has over 43 million views.

Writing on Twitter, one user commented, “Y’all…north west’s latest TikTok???? I’m WHEEZING.”

“She looks just like her dad this is hilarious,” another tweeted.

“No north is not on tik tok dressed up as kanye w kim in the background lip-syncing to bound,” someone else added online.

Last November, it was revealed that Kardashian and the Donda rapper had finalized their divorce after originally filing in February 2021.

After tying the knot in 2014, the former couple welcomed four children together: daughters North, 9, and Chicago, 4, along with sons Saint, 7, and Psalm, 3.

Following their separation, it was reported that the two would share custody of their kids.

Reports also found that Kardashian would be receiving $200K in monthly child support payments. Further, Kanye would be “responsible for 50% of their kids’ educational expenses, including tuition. He’s also responsible for 50% of their children’s security expenses.”

D.L. Hughley Compares Kanye West To Lucifer

The beef between D.L. Hughley and Kanye West is well-documented. They seem unlikely to have tension, but following West’s anti-Semitic rants, Hughley came forward. The legendary comedian argued that if Kanye was a woman, he would be under conservatorship like Britney Spears.

In a new interview with VladTV, Hughley again tackles West’s controversies. “I really fault a lot of these people who are taking advantage,” he began. “Well, I can’t say they’re taking advantage.” However, he doesn’t understand why West’s team allows him to jump from one outlet to another, knowing he would make unhinged statements.

Vlad brought up West stating that his mother, Michael Jordan’s father, and Bill Cosby’s son were all sacrificed. He also detailed the circumstances surrounding Donda West’s untimely death following cosmetic surgery. Vlad claims he investigated the story, and it was far from a sacrifice.

“I think that—biblically, Lucifer was a cherub. He was—his name means Morning Star. Lucifer was beautiful and he was God’s minister of music,” Hughley replied. “He was exalted, and he was perfect. And Lucifer had seen God. He knew that he was created by him. But Lucifer was so charismatic and so talented, he talked other angels in trying to bum rush heaven.”

“If talent and charisma is so mesmerizing, so intoxicating, it can make angels rise up against God,” Hughley continued. “It can make us alter our understanding of things. We’ll start to believe things. That is the most dangerous thing about what’s going on here.”

“It says a lot that a man who loves Hitler and Trump, it says a lot that you love those two people. And it says even more that people are contorting themselves to make that make sense.”

Meanwhile, after declaring his admiration of Adolf Hitler, saying Nazis aren’t all bad, and repeatedly speaking negatively about the Jewish community, West has been silent. He has promised he will attempt the presidential nomination in 2024, and it’s expected that he will reemerge with the details of his campaign.

The Court Cases That Defined The Music Industry

This week, a potential landmark case in the music industry was filed against Universal Music Group for allegedly withholding over $750 million of royalties from its artists over streams. Meanwhile, in Fulton County, a recording artist who was included in a gang indictment using his lyrics as evidence will face the legal fight of his life later this month, while his record label lies in ruins as a result.

It’s clear that, when the law crosses paths with the business of making and selling music, the course of one or the other can shift dramatically. In response to Young Thug’s case above, several states have introduced bills protecting artists’ freedom of speech whose lives and livelihoods can be wrecked by overeager prosecutors looking to score political points. Meanwhile, if Black Sheep’s class action suit against UMG proceeds, it could change the way streaming profits are shared with musicians, effecting broad-ranging changes in the way labels do business.

There have been plenty of other court cases that defined the course of the music industry. Some were copyright fights that caused new rules to be adopted — whether formally or informally — about how artists use and credit past works. Others are legal fights between artists and their labels, which prompted the latter to work out new types of deals in efforts to protect profits and attract savvier recording partners. And at least one seemed to be about artists and labels against the oncoming seismic shift caused by new technology. Here are ten of the court cases that defined the music industry.

1944 — Olivia de Havilland vs. Warner Bros. Pictures

One of the court cases that had the biggest impact on the recording industry wasn’t even about music. In 1944, actress Olivia de Havilland sued Warner Bros. Pictures after the term of her seven-year contract with the studio expired. However, much like with record contracts today, back then, actors signed to studios for a certain number of “pictures” over the course of a given term, and if they didn’t deliver, they couldn’t leave.

However, de Havilland argued that this was a violation of California labor law and that seven years means seven years. The courts agreed, forcing WB to release her; since then, numerous recording artists have used the same statute to end contracts they deem unfair, from Courtney Love and Metallica to Luther Vandross and most recently, HER. Even Kanye cited the rule during his feud with EMI and Roc-A-Fella, although a 1980s amendment allows labels to sue artists for damages if they don’t deliver the full number of contracted albums — even after seven years.

1960s — Chuck Berry vs. The Beach Boys

When the California rock band The Beach Boys basically plagiarized Chuck Berry’s 1958 “Sweet Little Sixteen” to create their 1963 hit “Surfin’ USA” (an event that was parodied in the 2006 adaptation of Dreamgirls), they inadvertently kicked off what nearly became the first copyright lawsuit in recording industry history. Although a lawsuit was never actually filed, all the royalties for “Surfin’ USA” go to Berry’s publisher Arc Music after the Beach Boys’ manager Murray Wilson struck a deal.

1990 — Queen vs. Vanilla Ice

This infamous case wound up being settled out of court, but it also laid the groundwork for future cases in which older artists expressed resentment for hip-hop’s proclivity for sampling their past hits. In 1990, upstart white rapper Vanilla Ice lifted the bassline from Queen’s 1981 song “Under Pressure.” The resulting single, “Ice Ice Baby,” became a monster hit and was hugely profitable, despite its later reputation as a novelty song.

However, the British band wasn’t too happy about it and sued Vanilla Ice over the song. Years later, it was revealed that the rapper paid for part of the publishing rights for “Under Pressure,” while giving credit to the original writers. Although he claims he bought the rights from the band outright, they refuted it, saying that a profit-sharing agreement was reached.

1990 — Roy Orbison vs. 2 Live Crew

Another landmark case revolving around the use of sampling in hip-hop, this one went all the way to the Supreme Court before all was said and done, and laid down some ground rules about how sampling can work. After requesting the rights for Roy Orbison’s “Oh Pretty Woman” and being denied, the group went ahead and released their parody track, “Pretty Woman” anyway in 1989. 2 Live Crew argued that their version constituted “fair use” which allows for parody.

After going through a federal district court and an appeals court, the Supreme Court ruled that 2 Live’s “Pretty Woman” does fall under fair use. However, not many artists have tried to use this defense in the years since — in part because parody tracks have fallen out of favor in hip-hop (although Weird Al is still cranking them out) and in part, because no one really wants the headache.

1990 — 2 Live Crew vs. Decency

Poor Uncle Luke. The 2 Live Crew spent a massive part of their early career battling legal enemies when they should have been enjoying the sort of debauchery that defined much of their creative output. In this case, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office had issued an edict that any stores selling 2 Live’s 1989 album As Nasty As They Wanna Be would face arrest on the grounds of obscenity. 2 Live fought back, filing suit in federal district court. Although an initial judge agreed with the Sheriff, an appeals court overturned the ruling, and the Supreme Court backed it up by refusing to hear a second appeal. Despite the raunchy material, the appeals court decided that the music itself had artistic value and that the band being “nasty” wasn’t enough to ban them outright.

1994 — Tupac Goes To Prison

This was impactful less as a matter of how it changed the rules of the game and more as how it changed the substance — even if indirectly. When Tupac was sentenced to 18 months in prison on rape charges (he eventually served just eight), he became something of a folk hero to a fanbase that felt he was railroaded by a racist system, emerging from prison more popular than ever. This set a precarious precedent in hip-hop, but it also helped to solidify what the genre looked like and represented. “Thug life” more or less became the default expression of the art form and Tupac became its avatar.

So many artists now have at least a little of his DNA in their flow, business moves, and public personas and this was arguably the start of his iconic status. After his prison stint, fans were so ravenous for new music that his final two albums, released during and after his sentence, both went No. 1 after he’d previously only managed to peak at No. 24. We certainly see echoes of that in artists such as 21 Savage and the support for Young Thug.

1994 — Prince Vs. Warner

Also in 1994, Prince waged his infamous one-man war on his label, Warner, for control over his music. By now, you’ve undoubtedly heard of how he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol in an attempt to free himself from his contract, or how he wrote “Slave” on his face to protest his inability to release music how and when he wanted under those contract terms. Ever since then, artists have spoken out about how they disagree with label practices — whether they’re practical or not — and ownership of their creative output, and any number of them, from Kanye to Megan Thee Stallion to New Jersey rapper Russ, have taken the Prince route to freeing themselves from the constraints of the major system.

2000 — Metallica vs. Napster

The first case of an artist suing a peer-to-peer file-sharing company, Metallica’s victory over Napster not only effectively ended Napster’s reign over the distribution of music, it basically opened the door for the whole streaming era in which we currently find ourselves. P2P sharing was never effectively ended, but it was forced underground, eventually evolving into the download sites that fueled the so-called “blog era.” It also demonstrated the viability of digital distribution, first in the form of .mp3s, and later, as streams, as fans had demonstrated that they were willing to adopt the new technology in lieu of only purchasing physical media.

2000s — MusicNet and PressPlay

Of course, the above transition wasn’t quite as smooth as that sentence may have made it out to be. In the early 2000s, the labels’ early attempts to get into the music-streaming game, MusicNet and PressPlay, weren’t quite as user-friendly as Spotify and Tidal would later turn out to be. But that wasn’t the only problem. The US Justice Department investigated the apps for antitrust violations, suspecting that the labels were suppressing competition and inflating the price of downloads.

Once iTunes hit the scene, though, the labels closed up shop on MusicNet and PressPlay, instead shifting their business models from trying to dominate the streaming space with their own propriety platforms in favor of partnering with tech companies who could do the concept justice.

2014 — Marvin Gaye Estate vs. Robin Thicke & Pharrell Williams

In a case that changed the standards for just what constitutes copyright infringement, the estate of Marvin Gaye alleged that Robin Thicke’s Pharrell-produced hit “Blurred Lines” illegally reproduced Gaye’s 1977 soul staple “Got To Give It Up.” A court agreed that, even without direct plagiarism of sheet music or lyrics, the later song certainly reproduces a lot of the sound of the original — enough that $5.3 million and 50 percent of all future royalties of the song were awarded to the Gaye estate.

This opened the door (and a couple of windows) for all kinds of copyright cases, with everyone from upstart rappers to established producers alleging plagiarism for even the slightest similarities in tone, style, lyrics, or instrumentation. And while a significant portion of those is getting chucked out, they’re likely to keep coming until another ruling draws firmer boundaries around what’s protected and what isn’t.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

North West Is Dressed As Kanye In Her New Controversial TikTok With Kim Kardashian

North West has been garnering a lot of attention with controversial TikToks on her joint account with her mom Kim Kardashian. Yesterday she danced with Kim to “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, who is quite obviously her dad Kanye‘s archenemy. She’s back with another video that’s nothing short of viral.

In the new TikTok, North is dressed up as Kanye, wearing a black hoodie and beanie and what appears to be a beard drawn with sharpie. Kim stands next to her posing, clad in big shades. The comments on the original video are turned off (all of their TikToks have disabled comment sections), but of course conversation was sparked on Twitter, with many users wondering why Kim would go along with this.

Since the launch of the joint account, which boasts over 12 million followers, Kanye wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, “Since this is my first divorce I need to know what I should do about my daughter being put on [TikTok] against my will?” This followed an interview in which he spoke up against North using the app: “Tell her don’t have my daughter wearing lipstick on TikTok and don’t have her on TikTok at all if I don’t approve that.”

Ye Rumored To Be Surprise Guest At Ghana’s Black Star Line Festival

IMG sundayservice

Ye has kept a quiet profile for the last few weeks, reportedly due to not wanting to be served legal papers. However, Ye is now rumored to be traveling to Ghana to be a special guest at the Black Star Line Festival.

According to DJ Ebenezer Donkoh, Ye is supposed to make an appearance at the festival taking place in Ghana’s capital, Accra, alongside the festival organizers: Vic Mensa and Chance The Rapper.

“I’m gathering info that Kanye West will be the surprise act at the Black Star Line Festival in Ghana this weekend,” DJ Ebenezer Donkoh tweeted yesterday.

The festival is set to take place today, January 6th. Other artists set to perform at the Black Star Line Festival include T-Pain, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Erykah Badu, Jeremih, Tobe Nwigwe and others.

Ahead of announcing the festival, earlier this week Vic Mensa vowed to bring clean water to over 200,000 Ghanaians.

“We’re building three boreholes in different communities in Ghana to provide clean drinking water; the first being the Asokore Zongo in Koforidua where my family lives, which is already built,” Mensa said to TMZ.

He continued: “The other locations are a nearby community called Effiduase and then our ancestral village in the Volta Region, Amedzofe. Most people in communities like this in Ghana experience constant waterborne diseases.”

“We were literally together for like a minute,” Fox said. “I don’t think he even knows my full name or anything.”

Fox would even dig into their bedroom life and state, “I think he would have liked that, but it just never got there.”

In March 2022, at the premiere of the latest Batman film, Fox told Entertainment Tonight dating YE was a “reset button” for her life.

“It was the best thing that could have happened to me,” Fox said. She also would go into detailing how her life is extremely busy, and she doesn’t have the time for a formal relationship.

In a previous statement about her relationship with Ye, Fox boasted about coming up during the relationship with the Hip-Hop Billionaire.

According to PEOPLE, the couple’s two-month relationship kicked off on New Year’s Eve and wrapped on Valentine’s Day. A rep for the actress said in a statement, “Julia and Kanye remain good friends and collaborators, but they are no longer together.”

That didn’t stop Fox from speaking for herself, hopping online and dropping a response to a report that she cried:

“Y’all would love if I was soooo upset! The media would love to paint a picture of me a sad lonely woman crying on a plane by myself but it’s NOT TRUE!! North West And Kim Kardashian Danced To Kanye Archenemy Taylor Swift’s Biggest Hit On The TikTok He Hates Them Having

Kanye West is gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate this. Nearly a year ago, Ye proclaimed that Kim Kardashian, his ex-wife, and North West, their nine-year-old daughter, have a joint TikTok account “against my will.” Kardashian more recently opened up about the presumably impossible task of co-parenting with Ye, calling it “really f*cking hard,” so she deserves to dance on TikTok with her daughter.

But it’s not just that Kardashian and North posted another harmless TikTok for their 12.1 million followers. This time, they’re dancing to “Shake It Off” by noted Ye nemesis Taylor Swift, from the infamous 2009 VMAs interruption to the leaked call about Ye’s “Famous” that played some role in fueling Swift’s 2017 Reputation era.

In the 55-second video, Kardashian and North perform a choreographed dance and lip-sync of “Shake It Off,” wearing matching white outfits in an all-white room.

Last month, a five-year lawsuit against Swift over “Shake It Off” was dismissed after an agreement was reached between Swift and the songwriters alleging copyright infringement (as reported by Billboard). Swifties immediately started speculating over whether that was the final roadblock Swift needed to clear before re-recording 1989, the 2014 album that marked her official transformation into full-blown pop star.

Since the release of Swift’s record-breaking October album Midnights, however, all signs point toward Speak Now as the next album to get the “Taylor’s Version” treatment.
