Andre 3000 is making his return to his solo career. Albeit, it is an instrumental album that will feature his skills with various instruments.New Blue Sundrops tomorrow, November 17, and because it is not a rap album, a lot of fans were majorly disappointed. The all-time great artist explained that he is still open to dropping a true hip-hop album. However, it needs to make sense for him to do it. “There’s this misconception that I just won’t do it. I think people feel like I’m sitting around on rap albums, or sitting around and I’m just not putting them out in that way. And no it’s not like that.” Hopefully, that happens one day. We already have some details, including the tracklist. It is safe to say the titles are insanely complex. Believe it or not, he needed clearance for one.
According to HipHopDX, Andre revealed to NPR Music that “Ninety-Three ‘Til Infinity And Beyoncé,” required him to call Beyonce and Jay-Z. Fortunately, they were kind to let him use it and he was extremely thankful for it. He says it references one of his favorite groups growing up, Souls of Mischief. They had a song called “93 ’til Infinity.” He incorporated that along with Buzz Lightyear’s famous quote from Toy Story, “To infinity and beyond!” He wanted to include Beyonce, maybe to celebrate her and Jay’s long-lasting relationship. Andre shouted out Bey and Jay. “And thank you, Beyoncé, for letting me use the name!” “And thanks Jay!” The multi-talent continues, “I’m just happy they let me use it so thank y’all. I really appreciate that.”

“Yo listen, for me to get Beyoncé tickets was a problem,” Bleek said. “My wife hit me like, ‘Yo, you know she in Philly for my birthday,” I’m like, ‘Aight cool, what that got to do with me? You tryna send me in there for the war baby?’ So, you know, f*** it, it’s wifey, so I hit all the top dogs. I ain’t gon’ even say no names. Hip hop is a genre that has always been about storytelling, from the struggles of growing up in inner cities to the highs and lows of fame and fortune. However, one story that often goes untold is that of love. Despite the stereotype of hip hop being all about “thug life” and “player” mentalities, there are many hip hop couples who have been together for over a decade, proving that love can indeed conquer all.
We’re looking at five hip hop couples who have maintained a long-lasting relationship. This is despite the challenges that come with fame and fortune. From Jay-Z and Beyoncé, arguably the most powerful couple in hip hop today, to LL Cool J and Simone Smith, who have been together for over 30 years, these couples inspire us all. Through their stories, we’ll see that love in hip hop is not just a cliché. It’s a real and powerful force that can withstand time.
Jay-Z & Beyoncé
Jay-Z and Beyoncé have been a power couple since they first emerged with their romance. They first met when Beyoncé was just 18 years old and working with Destiny’s Child. Jay-Z, who was 30 at the time, was immediately smitten with her. They started dating around 2001 but kept their relationship a secret for a long time. They only appeared together in public in 2004. In 2008, they married in a private ceremony and have been together ever since. Their relationship has not been without its challenges, however. Yet, they have always maintained that their love is strong, and they have worked through their issues. The couple has three children together, and continue to be one of the most iconic couples in hip hop.
T.I. and Tiny’s relationship has been a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs. They first met in the late 1990s and started dating shortly thereafter. T.I. and Tiny were once close to calling it quits, but they fought for their marriage. They’ve been featured on their own reality shows and often speak about the highs and lows of balancing a marriage in the industry. There have been rumors of infidelity from both parties, over the years. However, they seem to be in a much better place, these days.
Ice-T & Coco
Ice-T and Coco’s love story is a little different from the others on this list. They first met when Coco was working as a model, and Ice-T was already an established rapper and actor. They got married in 2002 and even featured their family on the reality show, Ice Loves Coco. The couple often takes hits on social media for their parenting style, but it’s nothing that the rap icon can’t handle. He emerges to defend his wife and supports her endeavors, in their household and with her career.
Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys are another power couple in hip hop, with Swizz Beatz being one of the most successful producers in the industry and Alicia Keys being a Grammy-winning artist in her own right. They have two children together, and both continue succeeding in their respective careers. However, their relationship has not been without controversy. There were rumors that Alicia broke up Swizz’s first marriage, but those claims have been adamantly denied. The loving parents often put their romance on display, and it’s clear that the spark hasn’t dissipated all these years later.
LL Cool J & Simone Smith
LL Cool J and Simone Smith’s love story is one of the longest-lasting in hip hop, as they have been together for over 30 years. In 1995, they got married in a private ceremony and have four children together. Simone has even launched her own jewelry line, called “SIS,” worn by celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Kelly Rowland. Additionally, the couple has leaned on one another through Simone’s cancer battle, using her experience to help others in similar situations.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z recently went out for dinner, and a paparazzi actually made them crack up at a joke. Moreover, the star couple went to Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California, and The Hollywood Fix uploaded a small clip of their exit into their vehicle. While white lights flashed and the two artists walked quietly and calmly to their car, one paparazzi had to pipe up. “Beyoncé!” they yelled out to the couple. Then, they said “B to the A! I mean, B to the C- whatever.” Furthermore, at that moment, you can hear both celebrities laugh softly at the poor photographer.
“Take care, Beyoncé,” they added. “I love you. You run the world remember that,” and you can slightly hear the singer thank him. After all, they’re not wrong. Moreover, she had an incredibly successful past year, marked by her album RENAISSANCE and the announcement of a world tour. In fact, she received so much praise and acclaim that even a Grammy nomination feels moot. When she lost the Album of the Year award to Harry Styles’ Harry’s House, fans on social media reacted in rage.
Still, her husband isn’t making a huge fuss of it. “I remove myself from the process and hope they just get it right,” he remarked about the Recording Academy’s choices. “It got to the point where I was like, it’s just a marketing thing. You go, you got an album out and it could help the sales go up.” Of course, RENAISSANCE hardly needs a promotional or streaming boost, but the sentiment is there. After all, the most awarded Grammy rapper (tied with Kanye West) knows a thing or two about the ceremony. However, he still stood by why he felt the album deserved to win.
“Look what it’s done to the culture,” he expressed. “Look how the energy of the world moved. They play her whole album in the club. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that. The whole entire joint — like, everything?! Every remix is amazing. Everyone’s inspired. It has inspired the world. Every remix is better than the other one. From anybody, we’re just finding these joints out in the street… It’s inspiring creativity.
“You know how The Black Album had The Grey Album [Danger Mouse’s 2004 mashup project]?” he continued. “And the one with Radiohead? It was called Jaydiohead [Minty Fresh Beats’ 2009 mashup]. When it just inspires creativity, that’s an album. That has to be Album Of The Year. It has to be.” Regardless of your take, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest on Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and paparazzi comedians.
