Jack Harlow Recalls Working With Lance Reddick On “White Men Can’t Jump”

The untimely passing of beloved actor Lance Reddick has been one of the most painful stories in pop culture this year. However, his esteemed legacy and power as an actor will continue to live on not just through his work, but through his family and collaborators. Moreover, Jack Harlow recently recalled The Wire star’s grace on set while at the premiere of their film White Men Can’t Jump. Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter asked the Louisville rapper about his time with Reddick, and he had some kind words for his late costar. Although Harlow said he didn’t spend much time with him due to scheduling, he called him “an absolute pleasure” to work with.

“I got about two days on set with Lance,” Jack Harlow told the outlet at the film’s premiere on Friday (May 12). “I’m so glad you brought the legend up. Rest in peace to Lance.” The remake of White Men Can’t Jump (originally released in 1992) marks one of Lance Reddick’s final projects he worked on before his loss at age 60. Machine Gun Kelly responded to this lyric in a diss track titled “Renegade Freestyle.” The freestyle features the same instrumental from Jay-Z’s song “Renegade,” which famously includes one of the best Eminem features ever. While it is still uncertain if Harlow will respond to MGK, the one-sided beef is in full swing between these two. MGK’s Beef With Eminem

While Jack Harlow’s recent album sparked the current beef, its issues date back to 2018 when MGK engaged in a feud with Eminem. After a riveting weekend of new music, Monday (April 8), has brought with it the first-week sales numbers for some major recent releases. Among them is Jack Harlow’s surprise Jackman effort, which found him delivering bars on bars across 10 featureless titles at the end of April. While many were happy to hear the Kentucky native return to his rapper roots, the project has failed to achieve the same support that his sophomore release Come Home The Kids Miss You, amassed in 2022.

That album, which features Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Drake, and more, landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 after earning 113K album-equivalent units (including 8K pure sales) during its first week out. Jackman, on the other hand, earned Harlow a spot at No. 13, with just over 34K in streaming sales and 2K in pure for a total of 36K. Jack Harlow may go to extreme measures to weasel his way out of interviews. However, he holds nothing back when it comes to trash-talking both on-screen and in his music. In his song, “They Don’t Love It,” featured on his latest album, Jackman, the rapper declared himself the “hardest white boy since the one who rapped about vomit and sweaters.” That was clearly a reference to Eminem and it prompted fans to flood social media with their thoughts on the matter. Now rapper-turned-rockstar Machine Gun Kelly is chiming in.

Instead of firing off a series of tweets, Machine Gun Kelly took it back to the essence of rap by dropping a diss track aimed at Harlow. Ironically enough, the diss was performed over the beat of Jay-Z’s 2001 song “Renegade,” which featured Eminem, his longtime rival. Throughout the freestyle, the musician takes subtle jabs, but near the end of the track, he goes in for the haymaker.

“I’m a great white I can eat these barracuda / See who I am? You’re stupid, it’s nice to meet you / I just put this hole in the ground for you like a soccer cleat shoe / I see why they call you Jackman, you jacked man’s whole swag / Give Drake his flow back, man, I eat rappers like Pac-Man / Must I regurgitate and show you who’s in my stomach / From the Last Dance?
