Gunna Explains What Caused The Delay Behind ‘P Power,’ His Collaboration With Drake

Gunna kicked off the year with his third album DS4EVER, which featured collaborations with Young Thug, Future, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Yung Bleu, Chloe Bailey, and more. However, when it was released, a song between Gunna and Drake was missing. Thankfully, that track, “P Power,” which was previously titled “P*ssy Power,” eventually arrived a week later. During a recent interview with Complex’s Jessica McKinney, Gunna explained what was behind the delay.

“I originally sampled Donna Summer,” Gunna said about the song, which samples the legendary singer’s 1976 song “Could It Be Magic.” “I don’t even know her, because I’m so young. But she was a legend and her estate couldn’t get back in time for my album.” The sample within Gunna and Drake’s collaboration was eventually cleared and released with a deluxe edition of the album.

The delayed release of “P Power” may have helped propel DS4EVER to the top, as it edged out The Weeknd’s Dawn FM to give Gunna his second No. 1 album. Gunna has also promoted the album with videos for “Livin Wild,” “Pushin P,” and “Life Of Sin.”

Rap Caviar Launched Some ‘Rap Mount Rushmore’ Murals That Surely Won’t Be Controversial

Let’s begin by thanking Spotify for the great utility of their plentiful playlists. For instance, in the Running section of the app, the pop playlists are broken down into ’00s pop, ’10s pop, and even ’90s pop — this one goes hard for those middle miles.

Anyway, it seems like their hip-hop curation team, Rap Caviar, has decided to break down their own genre in a similar way, by organizing it into decades. That seems fine, except, they also decided to tap into the ongoing greatest-of-all-time conversation by actually painting a “Rap Mount Rushmore” mural in various cities. They also chose to break their Rushmore down into just the 2010s, selecting Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and J. Cole. Which is exactly where things might get a little messier.

First of all, I have great respect for Nicki Minaj and believe she’s an incredibly important MC, but her greatest sphere of influence was definitely waning around 2015. By the time Queen hit, she wasn’t very influential at all. So putting her on the mountain when other massive names like Future, Young Thug, Tyler The Creator, Travis Scott and even Kanye himself are all let off is pretty alarming for even a casual rap listener. She might be there due to the fact that she called out a similar Rushmore on Twitter for not including her, but hey, desire isn’t achievement.

The fact that there’s no southern rap (no, J. Cole doesn’t count) is another issue some might find contentious! Anyway, at least they got Kendrick right.

Drake May Have Subtly Responded To Being Accused Of Putting Hot Sauce In A Condom

In recent days, an attention-grabbing rumor about Drake has been floating around. An Instagram model told the Too Much Hot Tea blog (as Rap-Up notes) that a few weeks ago, she and Drake had consensual sex at a hotel. After engaging in some intimate moments, the model says Drake went to the bathroom to dispose of his condom. At that point, the woman removed the condom from the trash and inserted the opening of it inside of herself, in an attempt to get pregnant. She quickly felt a burning sensation, after which Drake admitted that he poured a packet of hot sauce in the condom with the intent of killing sperm and thus preventing the outcome the model was hoping to achieve.

Now, Drake may have discretely addressed the rumors on Instagram via some low-key captions.

In a post from January 10, Drake shared various photos and wrote, “There’s a point in the ‘fake it til you make it’ theory where you actually gotta make it…” In his most recent post, from January 11, he wrote “You can have your 15 minutes of fame…I’ll take the other 23 hours and 45 mins.”

It’s worth noting that Drake rapped about pretty much this exact situation (minus the hot sauce) on his Brent Faiyaz collaboration “Wasting Time,” on which he says, “Flushed the Magnums just so they not collectin’ my specimens.”

Gunna And Drake’s Long-Awaited ‘P Power’ Collaboration Adds A New Highlight To ‘DS4EVER’

Gunna released his third album DS4EVER this past Friday and fans quickly noticed that a notable collaboration was missing from it. Gunna’s “P Power” track with Drake — which was previously titled “P*ssy Power” — was absent from the project when it was made available on streaming platforms last weekend. A reason for it was not given by Gunna, Drake, or their respective teams, but at long last, the song is finally here.

The track is carried by a sample of Donna Summer’s “Could It Be Magic” thanks to excellent production from Metro Boomin. “P*ssy Power” as a whole is an erotic record dedicated to women and their sexual prowess. Both rappers detail drug-driven moments with the women in their lives and how they cater to them thanks to their lavish and wealthy lifestyles.

With the release of “P Power,” Drake joins a healthy cast of guest acts on DS4EVER which includes Future, Lil Baby, Young Thug, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, Roddy Ricch, Chloe Bailey, G Herbo, Yung Bleu, and more. The release of “P*ssy Power” also comes after Gunna shared a video for “Pushin P” with Future and Young Thug. Gunna also shared a deluxe version of DS4EVER with four additional songs, but it was quickly removed from streaming platforms.

You can listen to “P Power” in the video above.
