Drake Returns To His House Music Bag On Gordo’s Plaintive New Song, ‘Sideways’

Drake, the man, may be lying low in the wake of his rough treatment at the hands of Kendrick Lamar, but his collaborators aren’t letting his exile keep them from releasing new music featuring Drake, the rapper. Drake and longtime collaborator Gordo (formerly known as DJ Carnage) reunite for “Sideways,” a collaboration from the latter’s new album, Diamante.

According to the producer in a new interview with People, Gordo’s Honestly, Nevermind collaborator is “past” the noisemaking feud, saying, “Ever since all this has happened… I’ve seen him happier. It’s really weird. He’s pretty jolly… The internet makes it seem like, ‘Oh, that photo, he’s all sad and s—.’ That’s just a bad photo from a bad camera. But because it’s him, it’s put under a magnifying glass like, ‘Oh, look at his eyes. He’s looking a little droopy. He hasn’t slept.’ But the guy’s been happy as s—, to be honest. He’s chilling.”

Diamante (titled after Gordo’s real first name) has a wide array of artists from across musical genres, including Fuerza Regida, Larry June, Leon Bridges, Maluma, T-Pain, and Young Dolph. Gordo says that if fans enjoyed Honestly, Nevermind, the new album will be right up their alley.

You can listen to Gordo’s “Sideways” featuring Drake below.

Diamante is due on 7/26 on Ultra Records. You can find more info here.

Drake Brings Summer Vibes On New Gordo Songs “Sideways” And “Healing”

Drake has special relationships with lots of different producers. 40 provides the contemplative beats, Boi-1da supplies the bangers. Gordo, however, provides the Toronto rapper with a unique, international sound. The two artists honed their dance-influenced sound on Honestly, Nevermind, and they dig back into this bag on Diamante, Gordo’s debut release. Drake appears on two of the songs, “Sideways” and “Healing,” and proves he hasn’t lost a step when it comes to sad boy summer vibes.

“Sideways” is the more upbeat collab, and it comes early on in the tracklist. Gordo provides a driving electronic beat for Drake to croon over. The Toronto rapper waxes poetic about a botched romance, and the reasons why this person was “never” his girl. “Sideways” gets a little repetitive on the back end, with the instrumental failing to progress much, but it still proves entertaining. Fans of Drake’s aforementioned Honestly, Nevermind are going to love it. “Healing” offers a bit more in terms of new musical ground. The Gordo beat is slower, and more contemplative. The implementation of piano is fantastic. A choir repeats the chorus like a mantra, with a clear emphasis on the difficulties of moving on. Drake is absent for large parts of the song, but when he sings, it hits hard. “Sideways” will hit right away for fans, but “Healing” has the potential to be a fan favorite in years to come.

Lil Wayne Accused Of Dissing Drake On “Saturday Mornings” And Here’s Why

If there’s one thing the internet is good for, it’s overanalyzing. Rap verses that would have gone unnoticed back in the day have become sources of speculation and debate. Especially when it comes to Drake. The Toronto rapper is a master of subliminals, and as such, anybody related to him is investigated by fans to see if they throw subs back. Lil Wayne has been Drake’s mentor for a decade and a half, and yet, the Young Money rapper has fans questioning whether he dissed the 6 God on his latest song.

The song in question is “Saturday Mornings,” a soulful collab with Cordae. Lil Wayne absolutely skates on the back end of the song, with some of his best wordplay in years. Some of the bars can (and has been) interpreted as Drizzy bashing, though. “It fit me like a glove, OJ hand. I’ma need a little love from your hating a*s,” Wayne raps. “Need less yes-men and more amens. I’ma need more real prayers and less praying hands.” The reference to the OJ glove has been applied to the artwork for the Drake diss song “6:16 In LA.” The praying hands, meanwhile, is theorized to be in reference to Drake’s “6 God” logo.

Lil Wayne Uses Drake’s Last Name As A Punchline

The line that really has fans scratching their head, though, is the one that mentions Drake’s surname: Graham. “You standing on business, I’m a business man,” Lil Wayne spits. “I’ma GOAT, n**ga you a sacrificial lamb. You a Teddy bear, n**ga, a Teddy Graham.” Weezy F. Baby is calling his target sweet, plain and simple. The evidence is compelling, especially given the fact that Drake has been clowned for being sweet for most of his career. The thing is, Wayne has been nothing but supportive of Drake since day one. The two artists have collaborated multiple times, and Young Money has stood behind Drizzy in light of the Kendrick Lamar battle.

Lil Wayne even went viral for trying to defend Drake against Lamar’s “Not Like Us” diss. The rapper tried to tweak the lyrics to the song during a recent performance in Las Vegas. It didn’t really work, though, and merely led to confusion as to which side he was on. It’s worth noting that Lil Wayne is set to drop a Rick Ross collab on July 26, despite Ross being firmly anti-Drake. There’s lot to speculate about, but at the end of the day, Wayne deserves the benefit of the doubt. Him and Drake are good until one of them says otherwise.

DeMar DeRozan Says Drake’s ‘Still My Man’ After He Appeared In The ‘Not Like Us’ Video

DeMar DeRozan has found himself in the middle of one of rap’s biggest feuds in recent months. DeRozan received a shout-out from Kendrick Lamar in his track “Not Like Us,” then appeared on stage at The Pop Out before a cameo in the music video for the song. Considering it came out as part of Lamar’s feud with Drake, there were plenty of question that came up about DeRozan’s relationship with the Toronto rapper, as the pair grew close during his tenure with the Raptors.

While DeRozan already revealed that he’s had a lengthy relationship with Lamar and considers him “basically family,” the newest member of the Sacramento Kings made clear that he still views Drake as “my man” in an interview with Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee.

“Drake’s still my man, still my man, none of it changed,” DeRozan told Anderson. “It’s so easy to get overlooked and look at it for what it looks like, but at the end of the day it’s music, entertainment. Two of the biggest rappers in the world went at it from a competitive standpoint and they battled it out. That’s what you want to see as a fan: Kobe (Bryant) playing (Michael) Jordan 1-on-1 and see who wins, see the trash talking, and whoever wins out of that, you’re still going to have the debate, so that’s all that is.”

After spending the last three years as a member of the Chicago Bulls, DeRozan joined the Kings as part of a sign-and-trade this offseason. To make the deal happen, Sacramento gave the 6-time All-Star a 3-year deal worth $70 million.

Drake & Lil Yachty’s New Song Draws Mixed Reactions

Drake might be coming back with new music soon. After a first half of 2024 that the Toronto rapper would probably like to forget, it seems that he’s trying to get himself back on track. Popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat previewed a new Drake song, featuring frequent collaborator Lil Yachty. Cenat and Drake are friends, with Cenat often supporting his new music by playing it on streams. Drake shouted him out on the track “First Person Shooter” with J. Cole, though not by name.

Drake and Yachty have collaborated a lot in recent years. Yachty appeared on the For All The Dogs track “Another Late Night,” released last year. Yachty also has production credits on For All The Dogs and the Grammy-nominated Her Loss, Drake’s joint album with 21 Savage. Drake cited Yachty’s influence as why For All The Dogs became what it did. Fans had a lot to say about the new snippet, which is currently untitled.

“Man Drake saving the summer once again,” said one Instagram user. Another took the new snippet as an opportunity to make fun of Kendrick Lamar fans. “Meanwhile Kenny fans still listening to that burnt out ahh track,” the user said. If nothing else, Stephen Curry agrees with Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us” being “burnt out.” Some fans did not want to hear Yachty appear on the song. “Nahhhh we didn’t need lil boat on this one,” and “Song is fire without yachty part!!” said two other users. Lil Yachty has often divided opinion, and this latest snippet is no different.

Drake has done two joint albums in the past. First was What A Time To Be Alive, his hit album with Future and Metro Boomin that took 2015 by storm. In 2022, he released the aforementioned Her Loss with 21 Savage, which was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Considering Drake and Yachty’s recent history, a joint album between those two next does not seem like an unlikely destination. Are you here for a collaborative album between the two? Will that get Drake’s career back on track? Sound off in the comments.

Kai Cenat Played An Unreleased Drake And Lil Yachty Collab Live On His Stream

Drake seems to be putting his feud with Kendrick Lamar behind him. Since dropping “Family Matters,” currently his final contribution to the diss track swap, Drake has linked up with Sexyy Red on “U My Everything” and Camila Cabello on a couple new tracks. Now, the story continues via a new Lil Yachty collab.

Streaming icon Kai Cenat previewed an unreleased Drake/Yachty track on his stream last night (July 23). The song doesn’t have an official title, but some have dubbed it “Supersoak” or “Super Soaked”

Drake sings on the chorus (per Genius), “I’m watching the moves and playin’ it close / S.O.D. (Stacks on deck), super soaked / Rainy days isn’t hers, matchin’ coat / Jet so big, it feel like a boat, stayin’ afloat / I’m watching the moves and playin’ it close / S.O.D., super soaked / She was a hoe, but I ain’t gon’ judge, ’cause that was way before.”

Drake isn’t the only one who’s kept busy in 2024. Yachty started the year by dropping his psychedelic album Let’s Start Here in January. In June, he linked up with James Blake for a joint project, Bad Cameo. Beyond Blake, he also collaborated with everybody from Faye Webster to McDonald’s.

Kai Cenat Premieres New Drake And Lil Yachty Song During Live Stream

Kai Cenat has skin in the hip-hop game. At least, he’s notable enough to warrant a mention. Drake referenced the Twitch streamer by name on his Kendrick Lamar diss, “Push Ups.” He also showed love to Cenat during a 2023 show. “Make some noise for my brother Kai Cenat one time in here, you know,” the rapper told the Atlanta crowd. The two appear to be on good terms, but fans were still totally caught off guard on July 23, when Cenat played a previously unreleased collab between Drake and Lil Yachty.

The song doesn’t have an official title, but Kai Cenat lets the entire thing play while he reacts in real time. The Twitch streamer counts down from ten before premiering the song, which he seemingly had never heard before. The beat and smooth cadence of the opening verse is classic Drake, or at least, the Drake that fans have gotten in the 2020s. His flow is reminiscent of numerous tracks on Her Loss (2022) and For All the Dogs (2023). Mileage may vary. That being said, Kai Cenat loves it. He struts around the room while Drizzy makes reference to an unfaithful woman.

Drake And Lil Yachty Skate Over A Moody Instrumental

The rapper also drops the line “Cleopatra working at the Pyramid tonight.” This seems like a direct nod to Frank Ocean’s 2012 single “Pyramids.” There’s a brief instrumental break in between Drake and Yachty’s verse, and Kai Cenat grows impatient. “Where you at, Boat,” he asks. The rapper then hops on the track with his trademark vocal warble. Yachty doesn’t flow as smoothly as Drake, but his bizarre inflections are more in line with what his fans like. Overall, the untitled song is pleasantly catchy. Not a smash, but the kind of deep cut that could anchor the back end of an album.

The timing of the song’s premiere makes sense, given Drake’s recent remarks. The rapper recently told DJ Akademiks that he plans to get back to making hits. “This is him to me,” Ak told his viewers. “He says, ‘Yo Ak, I’m back to giving everybody who loves me what they love from me.’” There’s no word on when fans will get a CDQ version of this Yachty collab. In the meantime, though, Drake will appear on the new Gordo album Diamante, which is out July 27. Maybe the rapper has a 2024 comeback in him after all.

DJ Retracts Claim That Drake Banned Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” In Texas

Drake’s influence is far and wide. He’s been one of the biggest artists in the world for half a decade. He has a particularly noteworthy influence in Texas, through his connections with J Prince. When it was rumored that Drake and J Prince had banned Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” in Texas clubs, it wasn’t entirely out of the question. The 6 God is known for being petty behind closed doors. J Prince, on the other hand, claims to have been involved with the Pusha T battle back in 2018. His input mad sense too. It turns out, though, that the rumor was untrue.

Ari the DJ was the woman who started the Texas rumor in the first place. She claimed she’d gotten in trouble multiple times for spinning “Not Like Us” via Twitter, which was quickly picked up by various outlets. Ari decided to set the record straight, however, on Instagram. She posted a screenshot of her original tweet, along with a headline detailing the alleged ban. According to Ari the DJ, things got lost in translation. “Headlines can be misleading,” she wrote on her IG Story. “Drake nor J Prince never told me to not play the song.” Ari the DJ then clarified that the orders to avoid “Not Like Us” came from people who respected Drake.

Drake Did Not Tell Club Promoters To Ban The Song

“Promoters and people that respect those guys told me not to and it was understood,” she explained. “That’s it, that’s all.” This isn’t the first time Drake has been accused of making life difficult for Kendrick Lamar and his TDE cohorts. ScHoolboy Q accused the rapper of getting his recent concert in Toronto shut down due to the ongoing beef. “TOP was just wit Wayne & Baby smH” Q tweeted. Partynextdoor just Had a sHow @ tHe palladium. If we wanted to get yall we would’ve just did it.. now wHen sumbody get Hurt don’t cry…”

There’s no evidence to link Drake to the cancelation of ScHoolboy Q’s concert. That being said, the venue for the show did have affiliates with the 6 God, as well as Live Nation. Drake has been quiet on record when it comes to the Kendrick Lamar beef, but rumors have continued to swirl that he has more music coming. The rapper has fueled these rumors on social media. On July 22, Drake posted a photo wearing a Tupac shirt reading: “Only God Can Judge Me.” Sounds like the war is still going on to us…

Elliott Wilson Is Avoiding Drake And Toronto After Rick Ross Incident

Elliott Wilson used to have a solid relationship with Drake. He interview the rapper for his CRWN series in 2013, and again for Rap Radar in 2019. The latter is the most comprehensive interview the 6 God has had to date, in fact. Unfortunately, things have soured between the journalist and the hitmaker. Wilson’s very public critiques of Drake during the Kendrick Lamar battle have landed him on Drake’s no-fly list. In other words, Wilson is not welcome in Drake’s hometown of Toronto anytime soon. The journalist talked about this awkward situation during a recent appearance on BagFuel.

Elliott Wilson believes the Toronto ban is fair. “This is his country,” the journalist posited. “It should be respected, right.” He also reflected on the monopoly that Drake has with regards to Canadian hip-hop. It’s something Wilson noticed as soon as the rapper became successful. “I remember the first OVO fest,” the journalist recalled. “When he brought [JAY-Z] and Eminem out, it’s like you gotta go to his country, with your passport and sh*t.” Wilson knew that the experience signified a major change in hip-hop, and acted accordingly. “This is big,” he admitted. “So yes, if I’m not cool with him… I don’t feel comfortable going to Toronto.”

Elliott Wilson Still Has Respect For Drake As An Artist

Elliott Wilson clarified that he didn’t fear for his safety, but wanted to respect Drake’s territory. He went on to admit that obsessive fans can sometimes be more dangerous than the artists and their entourages. “It could be fans nowadays,” he posited. “They thirsty and crazy. This Trumpian type era of n**gas. I don’t want that cornball sh*t.” This is not the first time Elliott Wilson has discussed his falling out with Drizzy. He revealed that the rapper unfollowed him on social media after he criticized the song “The Heart Part 6.”

Elliott Wilson also talked about his so-called “Toronto ban” during an appearance on the Bigger Picture podcast. He admitted that he was disappointed to see his relationship with the Toronto rapper go by the wayside. “I got my emotions about it,” he admitted. “But look it’s hard… That’s my guy, I respect him. You develop these connections with them, and then you have to manage these relationships and it’s ups and downs with that.” Hopefully the two men will be able to squash their differences down the line.

Drake’s Long-Anticipated Gordo Collab Finally Has A Release Date

Drake and Gordo have a strong track record together. The rapper and producer have worked together on “Sticky,” “Massive” and “Rich Baby Daddy” among several others. Gordo was a big influence on Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind, an album that’s slowly developing a cult fandom. He’s also been touting another Drake collab for months. The producer posted a photo alongside the 6 God back in May. He seemingly cried wolf again when he posted an IG Story with the text “July 12.” Thankfully, a proper release date for their collab has finally dropped. And it’s soon.

Gordo will release his debut solo album, Diamante, on July 26. The album boasts a star-studded tracklist, with features from the likes of Feid and T-Pain but Drake is the real standout. The Toronto rapper will not only feature on the song “Sideways,” but reportedly served as a consultant on the album overall. Gordo discussed this unique partnership during a recent profile with Rolling Stone. If Drake says, ‘This is it, and this is what you should listen to, this is what I listen to, and this is an incredible piece of work,” he stated. “He rides for me that heavy and he’s letting the world know that, then that says a lot.”

Drake Was A Creative Consultant On Gordo’s Album

Gordo promises that Diamante will be a wide-ranging album in terms of sound. He will incorporate all of the musical genres he listens to, despite primarily being known for his hip-hop production. “It’s so hard when you’re talking to a guy like me,” he told the outlet. “Because I’m trying to keep up with rap, with dance music, house, with techno, with Mexican corridos. Everyone here is doing their job.” While the vision for the album is undoubtedly his, Gordo again praised Drake for working with him, and providing his expertise on songs in which he wasn’t even involved.

Obviously, Drake has been busy with other things in 2024. The Kendrick Lamar battle being the most obvious of these distractions. Gordo also mentioned the battle, and how little it ultimately means for the rapper’s musical legacy. “F*ck all the bullsh*t to the side with everything that’s happening right now,” the producer asserted. “Drake is Drake, right.” The Gordo and Drake collab will be track two on Diamante. The last track is being kept a secret, with many fans hoping that the 6 God pops up a second time.
