Drake Claims Engagement Ring Necklace Was “Just A Joke”

The first month and a half of 2023 has seen Drake in the spotlight more than normal. Surprising as this may be, the Toronto icon can’t seem to duck headlines. His first newsworthy activity was when he hosted a few intimate shows at New York’s Apollo Theater. Playing most of his hits that span his entire career, Drake hosted small crowds consisting of his most loyal followers. At one of the shows, he announced that he and 21 Savage would soon embark on a joint tour.

The next month saw Drizzy bring home a Grammy in the Melodic Rap Song category. He was awarded for his contribution to Future’s hit song “Wait For U” with Tems. Following that, Drake got caught up in the murder trial for XXXTentacion. He was requested to attend a deposition in court regarding the case. This was likely due to a momentary beef he had with the slain rapper while he was still alive. However, on Feb. 14, he was cleared of his duties involving in the case.

Drake Comes Clean

But with all this buzz surrounding the 36-year-old recently, there’s one story that may top the rest. In December, it was revealed that Drizzy had purchased a necklace made entirely of engagement rings. The chain contains 351.38 carats of diamonds and costs somewhere around $10 million dollars. It was said that Drake had the chain made to commemorate the 42 times he considered proposing to a woman. However, in a recent interview with Barstool Sports’ Caleb Pressley, he backtracked on that claim.

“It was more just a joke but obviously people took it pretty literal. I was just tryna have an interesting story,” he said. Drake has become just as much of a jokester as he is a rapper and romantic. Known most of his career to be either a melodramatic songbird or cutthroat MC, Drake seems to be more light-hearted nowadays. So, it’s no surprise that he would joke about having this many failed relationships. After all, Drake can afford an elaborate gimmick like this. Plus, it is still an incredibly beautiful necklace. Let us know what you think about all this, in the comments below.

Drake Dodges Deposition In XXXTENTACION Murder Trial

Drake likely never thought that the silent tension brewing between himself and XXXTENTACION would ever lead to a deposition. X took many issues with Drake in the years prior to his death. It began with Drake’s “KMT” flow, which X said was stolen from “Look At Me!” However, the tension between them escalated even further beyond that. Unfortunately, it led to numerous allegations that Drake somehow had some involvement in the Broward County rapper’s death, which defense attorneys mentioned on numerous occasions since the trial began.

Dedrick Williams’ attorney, Mauricio Padilla, said that investigators never looked into Drake and X’s beef prior to making arrests. Additionally, he brought up the fact that X’s mother asked his uncle to accompany him when he went shopping for a motorcycle out of fear of the public feuds he had with well-known rappers. During the pre-trial, Padilla mentioned that he wanted Drake on the witness stand to testify in the trial. Shortly after, he filed a motion to have Drake sit down for a deposition, which a judge granted over the weekend. Even after the state’s witness, Robert Allen – the fourth suspect arrested over X’s death – said that he didn’t know Drake, anyone from Toronto, or any parties associated with the Canadian artist.

Judge Grants Drake’s Motion To Dodge Deposition

It looks like Drake won’t have to sit down for a deposition after all. According to TMZ, Judge Michael A. Usan granted Drake’s motion to dodge the deposition. Drizzy’s attorney appeared in court earlier this week where he explained that, not only was the subpoena flawed, but that there isn’t a shred of evidence tying the rapper to X’s death. Though the judge agreed, he stated that he would have to work out a schedule with the defense for a deposition. Judge Usan ultimately backtracked on that ruling and let Drizzy off the hook once the rapper’s lawyer explained that his client had no relevant information to provide.

Now, is there a possibility that Drake might still have to sit down for a deposition? Potentially but that would require some serious work from Padilla, especially since the trial is already underway. For now, it appears that Drake is in the clear and won’t have any involvement in the trial moving forward. We’ll keep you posted if anything changes in the future. Lil Yachty Talks Being “So Close” To Drake & Explains New All Girl Band

It isn’t easy finding long-lasting friendships in the industry, but Drake and Lil Yachty are as thick as thieves. They’ve partied, collaborated, and been inspired by one another, and Yachty told Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1 about his growing friendship with the OVO icon. “Shout out to Drake, man. I love him to death,” said the “Poland” hitmaker. “Yeah, that’s my guy, man… Our relationship has just grown.”

“I had a conversation with him and was just telling him, ‘Man, this music that you made over this time period has affected so many people.’ I said, ‘Man, I remember there was a point in time when you were about to release music, and everyone was like, man, I’m about to call my ex. Like, oh man, I’m finna cry.’ That was a time period. And that’s when people thought when Drake was finna drop, you thought like, ‘Oh man, I’m about to get back with my ex-girlfriend.’ You felt like, emotions were about to be pulled out of you.”

Revisiting those moments in Drizzy drop history made Yachty want to return to that feeling. “I was like, ‘Man, we got to get back on that. You got to get back on that.’ At this point, I feel so close to him. I feel like whatever he does, I did it. If he wins something, I feel like I just won. He’s really, really smart. No matter how much he’ll act like he’s oblivious to his career and the things that he’s done, he knows what certain things and certain moments in his career mean to people.”

Elsewhere during his chat with Lowe, Yachty explained his new artistic endeavor. We previously reported that he created a girl group, and now he detailed the inspiration behind working with women. “I have an all girl band. Yeah. I just wanted to show how sick women can rap,” said Yachty. “I feel like…I was just in rehearsal yesterday. I just feel like women don’t get as much respect as men when it comes to the music industry. So I was like, ‘These songs are pretty badass, and I want to show women playing them.’ They didn’t make it, but I want to show they can do it, not better. So that was my vision.”

“I haven’t toured in five years, so I am dying to see people care to see me and hear me because I haven’t been on stage since I was like 19, 20. I haven’t toured since I was like 19 years old, before I was 21.” Check out Lil Yachty and Zane Lowe above.

Is Drake Connected To XXXTentacion’s Murder Case?

Drake has been in the headlines quite a bit recently, given his ties to XXXTentacion’s murder trial. Some might be wondering: what exactly is the Canadian rapper’s connection to it all?

One of the suspect’s lawyers, Mauricio Padilla, tried to subpoena Drake in January before a judge gave a mandatory order that he has to appear for a deposition by February 24 — or he will be held in contempt of court.

Drake’s lawyer, Bradford M. Cohen, has since responded to the deposition filing, according to Rolling Stone.

“No evidence has been provided to substantiate the assertion that [Drake] in any way contributed to, had knowledge of, or participated in the alleged incident, and to mandate that he appear for deposition for something that he very clearly has no relevant knowledge of is unreasonable,” he shared.

Padilla had previously included Drake on a potential witness list, despite the four men already being charged in connection with XXXTentacion’s 2018 death. Earlier this month, the lawyer also alluded to a social media post that supposedly proved Drake’s involvement in the murder.

“If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi,” XXXTentacion reportedly wrote in an eventually-deleted Instagram Story. “I’m snitching right now.”

However, he later denied the post, writing online, “Please stop entertaining that bullsh*t on Twitter. My accounts were previously hacked.” Padilla did not reference this retraction from XXXTentacion in court.

In addition, back in December, one of the suspects, Robert Allen, allegedly denied Drake’s involvement. Allen testified that he had never met Drake, nor received money from him or any associates. He also was unaware who XXXTentacion was at the time of the murder.

XXXTENTACION Case: State Witness Denies Connection To Drake, Akademiks Or Ski Mask The Slump God

The attorneys for XXXTENTACION’s murder suspects are working hard to plant seeds of doubt into the minds of the jury. It’s been nearly five years since the rapper was killed during a robbery that left the hip-hop community rattled. However, the trial began this month. The defense made numerous attempts to convey the possibility that Michael Boatwright, Trayvon Newsome, and Dedrick Williams did not commit the fatal robbery.

Part of the strategy is to pin the blame on other well-known rappers who’ve beefed with XXXTENTACION in the past. Drake, for instance, was brought up during the pre-trial when prosecutors and defense submitted their list of potential witnesses. Though there’s no evidence proving Drake’s involvement, the defense for Williams has brought up numerous internet conspiracy theories. However, the state’s witness confirmed that the Canadian rapper has nothing to do with the shooting, whether directly or indirectly.

Robert Allen Takes Stand In Trial Of XXXTENTACION Murder Suspects

Robert Allen, who copped a plea deal last year, testified and addressed rumors of Drake’s involvement. During his testimony, the prosecutors asked if he “even knows Drake,” to which he replied, “Not personally, no.” He also denied having any connection to Drake, knowing anyone from Toronto, or receiving payment to carry out a hit on XXXTENTACION. The prosecution then asked if he had a relationship with DJ Akademiks or Ski Mask The Slump God, which he also denied.

Unfortunately for Drake, he remains tied to the case after a judge allowed a motion to serve him a deposition subpoena. Following numerous attempts, the defense attorney for Williams finally got the green light to depose Drizzy. The rapper’s attorney responded in a motion filed over the weekend where he stated the papers weren’t properly served. Then, he appeared before the judge to quash the deposition subpoena. He said there were missing pages in the papers that provided insufficient evidence attaching Drake to the murder of XXXTENTACION. “… Mr. Graham has nothing to do with this case, Mr. Graham is not listed in any report,” he told the judge. However, the judge said they would have to work with the defense to work out a deposition time. We’ll keep you posted on anymore updates on the trial.

Drake Files Motion to Dismiss His Subpoena in XXXTentacion’s Murder Case

Drake

Drake said to leave him out of this XXXTentacion murder trial. The Boy is supposed to have a disposition in the trial of the slain rapper, but he is attempting to sidestep having to appear.

According to TMZ, Drake and his attorney Bradford Cohen filed a motion to toss the subpoena requiring him to attend a private deposition in late February. Defense attorney Mauricio Padilla, representing Dedrick Williams, one of the men accused of killing XXX, presented an argument that made the request for Drake to appear.

Padilla sent Drake a deposition link via ZOOM, but it was not under seal, compromising Drake’s security. In the motion filed by Drake and Cohen, the two argue the subpoena was “procedurally defective.”

In addition, Drake shows that he never showed in investigative files, citing he is just being used as a court distraction. The motion reads his inclusion “add more layers of celebrity and notoriety to a tragic and unfortunate event.”

Drake’s ‘Psychotic’ And ‘Illogical’ Super Bowl LVII Bet Actually Paid Off In The Sum Of $1.4 Million

Apparently, the ‘Drake curse’ only works on people not named Drake. If there’s one thing the “Rich Flex” rapper loves more than his music, sports would be a close second. Whether he is filming a hilarious to congratulate his longtime friend LeBron James for breaking the NBA’s all-time scoring record or being clowned on for his skills by his hometown’s star player — nowadays, sports and Drake go hand in hand.

From time to time, his love for sports significantly pays off. After placing nearly $1 million in bets on Super Bowl LVII, he has earned big. Before the game, the performer to Instagram to share screen grabs of his bets with the caption, “My psychotic bets for Sunday are in @stake. Pls, do not analyze the logic behind these bets. There is none.”

Thanks to the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory, the Toronto native is cashing in over $1 million in earnings. Placing a $700,000 bet on the Chiefs to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles resulted in an estimated payout of $1.4 million. However, his bet that Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to score the first touchdown didn’t happen. The other losing Super Bowl LVII bets from Drake included the Chiefs would win each half, predicting the Chiefs would win each quarter, and for Travis Kelce and a tight end to win the Super Bowl MVP.

Drake could’ve taken home over $4.5 million, but his estimated winning total is just under $1.5 million for selecting the correct victors.

Drake Gives Courteney Cox The Finger While Clubbing In Hilarious Skit

Plenty of unexpected celebrity link-ups went down this weekend thanks to the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. For one, Chrisean Rock’s selfie with Rick Ross led her beau, Blueface to expose her on social media. Elsewhere, Friends actress Courteney Cox made it seem as though she and Drake linked up at the club for a hilarious skit.

Inspired by comedian Max Goodrich, the 58-year-old put together a video that’s had her Instagram followers in stitches. As the clip begins, we see footage of the Canadian rapper dancing along to his Honestly, Nevermind track, “Sticky.” The camera then cuts to Cox in the corner, taking a selfie with a friend.

Turning back to Drake, we see a short snippet of his head shaking. Next, his hand reaches out towards the Cougar Town lead. When we see her face again, a hand, pretending to be the father of one aggressively wags no after assuming she was taking a photo of him. “Oh, I wasn’t taking a photo of you,” she tells him as the arm continues to wave.

After hearing the news, “fake Drake” makes a fist, seemingly requesting that Cox dap him up. When she smiles and makes a move to tap his knuckles with hers, Champagne Papi swats her away and sticks up his middle finger instead. We then return to footage from the “Sticky” video. This sees the 36-year-old laughing and dancing with his friends as Cox walks away, obviously annoyed.

“No pictures allowed… Got it,” she wrote in the caption, also thanking Goodrich for inspiring her. In the original video, the creator wrote, “POV: you’re at the club with Drake.” Using the same footage that Cox repurposed, the TikToker made it seem as though Drizzy stuffed his fingers in his drink. Afterward, he rubbed them all over his shirt, then hit him in the face.

It’s been making rounds on various apps for a week now. In fact, the “Best I Ever Had” hitmaker even reposted it on his Story. It remains unclear if he’s seen Cox’s edit yet, but hopefully, he gets as much of a laugh from it as the rest of the world has. Check back later for more hip-hop news updates.
