Rihanna is pulling the curtain back on her current creative process. In a new Interview Magazine cover story, Rihanna revealed she is working backward.
“I have a lot of visual ideas,” Rihanna said. “It’s weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I’m having all of these visuals, and I don’t have the songs for them yet, but maybe that’s the key, this time.”
She added, “Maybe the visual ideas are leading me to the songs that I need to make.”
Rihanna says she’s become a “silent troll” while staying off social media as of late. She made the comment while discussing her infamous feud with Ciara during a cover story for Interview Magazine published on Tuesday. For the piece, she spoke with the publication’s editor-in-chief, Mel Ottenberg, who used to be her stylist.
The topic arose when Ottenberg asked, “Do you miss being on the internet, like really on the internet? Like, ‘Good luck booking that stage you speak of’ internet? Because you were so good at it.” The remark he mentioned was something Rihanna told Ciara on Twitter back in 2011 after Ciara claimed she ignored her backstage at an event. “The troll in me, she had a time,” Rihanna told Ottenberg. “Unfortunately, you can’t take anything back from the internet, so I will always have the reminders, but the best troll in me is the silent troll.” It’s worth noting that both Rihanna and Ciara showed each other love and apologized once they cooled off later that night.
Elsewhere in the interview with Ottenberg, Rihanna discussed her relationship with ASAP Rocky and admitted she’d be down for more kids. She explained: “I don’t know what god wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course, if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.” The couple welcomed their second son back in August 2023.
Other topics they address are her child’s first words, new music, and more. Check out the full interview above. Be on the lookout for further updates on Rihanna on HotNewHipHop.
Rihanna confirmed that she’s working on new music during her cover story for Interview Magazine published on Tuesday. She had the conversation with the publication’s editor-in-chief, Mel Ottenberg, who used to be her stylist. This time around, she says she’s approaching the process of making music from a different angle.
“I have a lot of visual ideas,” she began. “It’s weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I’m having all of these visuals, and I don’t have the songs for them yet, but maybe that’s the key, this time. Maybe the visual ideas are leading me to the songs that I need to make.”
From there, she began trying to switch topics. “Random ideas, quirky ideas, things that have nothing to do with me at all. I mean, I can’t tell you. The opps is watching,” she joked. Ottenberg obliged and the two moved on to more innocent topics such as Rihanna’s favorite cities.
Elsewhere in the interview, Rihanna discussed her relationship with ASAP Rocky. She also admitted she’d be down for more kids: “I don’t know what God wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course, if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.” Other topics they addressed are her child’s first words and more. For years, hip-hop heads thought Rihanna and Drake would settle down together because of their strong working relationship. Ultimately, though, the “California King Bed” songstress chose ASAP Rocky to father her children, and she confirmed today (April 9) that they’re hoping to have more. On Tuesday morning RiRi’s Interview Magazine cover story dropped, consisting of iconic, gender-bending outfits and a conversation with Mel Ottenberg that reflects how life has changed for her since becoming a mother.
At one point, Rih was asked about the time when her man, ASAP Rocky, grabbed her butt during a performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. They were singing the hypersexual “Cockiness (Love It)” when the New Yorker gave his future lover’s behind a squeeze. “So when he grabbed my a** that night, everybody thought I was about to… My team was worried that I wanted to have his head on a f**king mantle,” the 36-year-old recalled of her short temper.
Who Knew Rihanna and ASAP Rocky’s Relationship Went Back So Far?
However, since Rihanna was able to play the hot and heavy moment off, her inner circle was quick to speculate a growing crush. “I was like, ‘Ah, nah.’ That’s why everybody was like, ‘Oh my God. She likes him,’” the Barbadian explained. In 2013 she appeared in Rocky’s “Fashion Killa” visual, but it wasn’t until 2019 that their romance became serious.
Elsewhere in her Interview Magazine sitdown, Rihanna spoke about how Mel Ottenberg has always had a knack for styling her over the years. “You’ve always taken advantage of my silhouette and what my body is doing,” she praised the creative. “Like when I’m mad skinny, my boobs are, like, nothing and I have a little booty, and you work with that. And now it’s like, ‘Okay, I had two babies. You really have to push this up, snatch this in,” the Bad Gal added. Rihanna shared the first words she and ASAP Rocky’s son, RZA, said to them during her new profile with Interview Magazine. According to the iconic singer, he remarked: “Hey.” Rihanna had the conversation with the publication’s editor-in-chief, Mel Ottenberg, who used to be her stylist.
“I used to try to get his attention all the time, and I would say, ‘Hey, hey, hey.’ And one day he said it back to me in the same melody and I kept singing it and he kept following it over and over again,” Rihanna explained. She also revealed that RZA’s favorite song at the moment is “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Rihanna discussed her relationship with ASAP Rocky. “We’ve known each other for a long time. I’ve seen him in relationships. He’s seen me in relationships. We’ve seen each other outside of relationships. We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives,” Rihanna said. “We can make or break each other’s hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.” She also admitted she’d be down for more kids: “I don’t know what god wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.”
Additionally, she provided an update on her long-awaited follow-up album to 2016’s Anti, explaining that she has plenty of visual ideas and is still working on songs for them. Be on the lookout for further updates on Rihanna and ASAP Rocky on HotNewHipHop.
Rihanna says that she’d be willing to have more children with ASAP Rocky after the two welcomed their second son, back in August. Speaking with Interview magazine for a new piece, she told Mel Ottenberg about her relationship with the rapper. Ottenberg, who is now the editor-in-chief of the publication, was once Rihanna’s stylist.
“We’ve known each other for a long time. I’ve seen him in relationships. He’s seen me in relationships. We’ve seen each other outside of relationships. We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives,” Rihanna said of Rocky. “We can make or break each other’s hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.”
From there, she explained that the COVID-19 pandemic sped up their relationship. “I let god lead and just let go,” she added. “Because in previous relationships, I tried and tried and tried my best, and you still feel like it’s not enough. So when someone sees you completely, and believes in you, and thinks you’re worthy of being the mother of their kids, it’s a great feeling. I felt the same about him. I knew he would be a great dad.” Rihanna also admitted she’d be down for more kids: “I don’t know what god wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Rihanna revealed their son, RZA’s first words, discussed Italian food, plastic surgery, and much more. She even provided an update on her long-awaited follow-up album to 2016’s Anti. RiRi’s back. The mother of two has her hands full at home with little RZA and Riot, leaving her with much less time to hit the studio or grab dinner with her gal pals. Nevertheless, the blonde beauty has still been spending time outside, donning consistently fabulous outfits no matter if she’s with her family or rolling solo. We’ve seen some sultry Savage x Fenty snapshots on her Instagram lately, and today (April 9), Rihanna took us back in time to her Good Girl Gone Bad era with photos from her Spring 2024 Interview Magazinecover shoot.
On Tuesday morning, the 36-year-old’s social media lit up with images and videos lensed by Nadia Lee Cohen. For the main snap, Rih channelled her inner nun with a black and white headdress, though she still showed some skin in an oversized white top. Mel Ottenberg was on deck for styling, as well as asking fans’ burning questions to the “Rude Boy” hitmaker. When asked what her favourite part about Los Angeles is, she answered, “My gynecologist, truthfully,” and also dished about wanting to undergo a breast lift after having her babies.
As she often does, Rihanna and her creative team played around with gender expression in this shoot. Some pictures see her smoking a blunt in a white button-up shirt and black leather tie – something her man ASAP Rocky would look equally as dapper in. Another photoset shows the multi-talent looking like a roughed-up housewife. “Literally how I feel in postpartum with two under two,” RiRi wrote in her caption, earning praise for being so vulnerable.

JT is no stranger to stunning. Recently she was the subject of a new story in Interview Magazine where she sat down with her friend and collaborator Kali Uchis. The pair teamed up with El Alfa earlier this year for the Latin-themed banger “Munekita.” The track has been a big hit racking up nearly 44 million streams since it was released in early August. It’s serving as the first single from an upcoming album Kali has that’s entirely in Spanish. The project doesn’t have an official release date yet but fans are hoping to hear it later this year.
Now, the pair are taking their collaborations to a new medium with a piece in Interview Magazine. Since JT is the subject of the piece she got her own photo shoot and decided to show off her business side. Using some corporate-looking furniture as a prop she shows off a series of highly stylized looks in Fendi outfits for the shoot. Celebs showed out in the comments with love coming from India Royale, her fellow City Girl Yung Miami, and even Kali Uchis herself. Check out the photo shoot and responses below.
This photo shoot isn’t the only time recently that JT has made waves with her social media presence. She sparked some major marriage rumors when she changed the last name on her account. It’s now listed as Jatavia Woods, with Woods being the legal last name of her long-time partner Lil Uzi Vert. They haven’t confirmed anything yet but the writing appears to be on the walls, and on her Instagram account.
JT was recently in another high-profile photo shoot this time promoting Beats by Dr. Dre. While fans aren’t universally in love with the photo shoot it certainly did its job at generating plenty of attention. Enough people expressed confusion over it that JT herself had to respond. What do you think of JT’s new photo shoot for Interview Magazine? Let us know in the comment section below.
Earlier today, Interview Magazine shared their newest chat with one of the biggest breakout stars of rap music this year, Sexyy Red. In the interview, she details all kinds of unique approaches she takes to her music and status. For example, she claims that she has no interest in signing a major record deal any time soon. She also doesn’t have any interest in writing a diss track, something that other breakout rappers like Latto, Ice Spice, and Coi Leray have already engaged in.
But later in the interview, Sexyy Red did have something else to announce to her fans. She has a new line of lip gloss on the way and she’s doing it in the exact way you’d expect her to. She told Interview how the names of the various colors will be inspired by lyrics from her debut album Hood Hottest Princess. “I got a lip gloss line dropping soon, y’all better shop with your girl. I got all different flavors: Coochie Juice, Bootyhole Brown, Coochie Pink, Sex on My Period, Gonorrhea, Yellow Discharge, and Nut.” While she didn’t give any details on when fans may be able to get their hands on the glosses with the unhinged names, the process seems like it’s well underway. Check out the full interview below.
For weeks now, Lil Durk and Sexyy Red had been playfully teasing each other online. That’s because they had a new remix on the way, which they playfully deflected blame onto each other for it’s delay. Over the weekend the track finally arrived. “Hellcats SRTs 2” sees the pair linking up for a remix of a deep cut from Red’s debut album earlier this year.
Sexyy Red has been working with plenty of big names and fans think another one could be on the way. Photos of Red and Kodak Black together began making the rounds earlier today leading fans to expect the two may be working on a collaboration. What do you think of some of the names for Sexyy Red’s new lip gloss line? Let us know in the comment section below.
Sexyy Red is having an absolutely massive breakout 2023 and she’s doing it without some of the tactics that can typically get new artists in the door. She recently sat down with Interview Magazine to discuss some of the things she’s doing differently than other artists. One of those is seeking out a major label deal. Despite collaborating with some of the biggest artists in rap, Red isn’t signed to a major label and she doesn’t want to be. “I’m not even looking for no deal, for real,” she says.
In a year where some other breakout stars like Ice Spice, Latto, and Coi Leray are beefing, Sexyy Red hasn’t picked many fights. That turned out to be on purpose. “[Diss tracks] be fun but I think they cause drama. Soon as you diss someone something happen to you. You know how it is.” Those aren’t the only common activities she’s passing up on either. She also claims that she doesn’t drink and when prompted for a reason she gave an answer only she could. “Liquor stink.” Check out the full interview below.
Over the weekend Sexyy Red released a collaboration she’s been teasing for weeks. She dropped a remix to her track “Hellcats SRTs” alongside Lil Durk. The pair had been playfully taking shots at each other on social media and deflecting blame for how long the song was taking onto each other for weeks leading up to its release.
Sexyy Red also managed another impressive feat last week. Billboard introduced a brand new chart specifically designed to track the biggest songs on TikTok. In the very first edition of the chart Red herself took up the very top spot with her viral hit “SkeeyYee.” She held off superstars like Taylor Swift and Doja Cat to claim the first-ever number-one hit on the TikTok Top 50. What do you think of some of Sexyy Red’s unique claims in her new interview? Let us know in the comment section below.
