Earlier this week, Megan Thee Stallion’s new documentary In Her Words finally hit Prime Video. In it, the Texas rapper gets vulnerable about some of the most difficult moments of her life. This includes being shot by Tory Lanez in 2020, and the loss of her mother.

In 2019, Meg’s mother was suffering “back-to-back seizures,” and was eventually declared brain dead. This resulted in her having to make the heartbreaking decision to take her mother off life support. According to her, she knew her mother wouldn’t have wanted to live that way, which is why she made the decision.

“They had to put her under, and she was just brain dead,” she recalled. “I stayed up there every day… just praying that she could shake back from it. But once I realized she wasn’t coming back, I knew I couldn’t keep her like this. I had to make the decision to pull the plug, and she passed the next day.” Meg also went on to discuss the impact of her mother’s death, revealing that it weighed heavily on her. She was not only her mother but also her manager.

“When my mama passed away,” Meg explains in the doc, “I think I really forgot who I was. I lost a lot of confidence because I was so used to my mama telling me what to do. Unsurprisingly, there are several standout moments, including the femcee’s confession about her 2022 interview with Gayle King. According to her, she wasn’t completely honest when she was asked whether or not she had a sexual relationship with Lanez.

“Yes, b***h, I lied to Gayle King, b***h,” she explained. “First of all, I ain’t know that b***h was even going to ask me about that s**t, b***h. I thought we was going to talk about the shooting. Why is you asking me about f***ing Tory? That’s not what this is about. Even if I was, I f***ed the n***a, like, once. Maybe twice, on a drunk night. But she kept catching me out of my f***ing mind.”

“I really thought that once he got sentenced and once he went off to jail, I was going be a new woman and I thought I was going to be great and I could just go be the Megan Thee Stallion I always wanted to be. No. I still, every day, have to deal with people mad at me because I said what happened to me,” she explained. “I do feel like I’m getting in a place where I really don’t care. I only care about my damn self. For the first time since my mama was alive, I’m taking care of myself, because I want to feel good. Everything I do is for me. And I don’t feel like I’m operating at one million percent now, but I definitely feel like I’m operating better. I do feel hopeful for what’s next for me.”

Megan Thee Stallion is coming clean about having sex with Tory Lanez. In a conversation with Gayle King on CBS in 2022 after the shooting, Thee Stallion stated she and the jailed rapper never hooked up. In her Prime documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Own Words, she claims they did “once or twice” while drunk.

In response, Ceasar McDowell, CEO of Unite the People, who represents Lanez, stated to TMZ: “The fact that Megan lied about her sexual relationship with Tory obviously makes her an unreliable witness. If someone lies in front of millions of people, how can you trust what they say any other time?”

In Lanez’s appeal, he notes “previous false statements made by Megan.”

Megan Thee Stallion Channels “Mother Fitness” In New Partnership w/ Planet Fitness

Rap superstar Megan Thee Stallion tells the story for the first time about what her life was like following the 2020 shooting incident involving Tory Lanez and the pressure she was under at the time, which caused her to have a mental breakdown.

Megan recently dropped the trailer for In Her Words documentary, which explains how “the global superstar recovers from a 2020 shooting incident and grapples with the perils of fame (among other things).”

In a clip from the trialer, she says, “I think I really forgot who I was, and when life started really getting crazy, I didn’t have [my mother]. That’s when I started getting the backlash. The shooting. The betrayal. I was definitely getting a little too engulfed in social media…I had really had, like, a real breakdown.”

She added, “I want people to understand how this affected me. I want people to see how I feel. I been through so much I can’t give up.”

The trailer was first announced by RocNation and TIME Studios back in 2022, however, the doc is slated to premiere on October 31 via Amazon Prime Video.

“We are thrilled to be able to work with Roc Nation to share Megan’s story with the world,” TIME Studios’ co-head of documentary Loren Hammonds said in a statement. “Millions of people are familiar with her as an entertainer, but this series will give her a chance to share her truth as never before.”

Megan Thee Stallion has shared a trailer for her highly-anticipated documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words. In the two-minute preview of the Amazon Prime film, she discusses the tragic passing of her mother, the infamous shooting involving Tory Lanez, dealing with hate on social media, and much more.  “I want people to understand how this is affecting me. I want people to see how I feel,” she says at one point.

When Megan posted the trailer on X (formerly Twitter), fans shared their excitement in the replies. “Love you Megan so proud of how far you’ve come…Thee Hotties will always be here for you,” one user wrote. Another posted: “Oh sista you got me tearing up… you deserve it all times a million!!! Thank you for putting on for the tall girls who needed a confidence boost.”

At the time, a press release for the project revealed: “The documentary will provide viewers with an intimate perspective into Megan’s life and career. From delving into Megan’s upbringing in Texas to chronicling key milestones in her career, the project will shed light on the many facets of Houston native’s multilayered personality. […] With a mix of rare archival footage and fresh verité video, the documentary will highlight Megan’s rise from viral freestyling phenom to iconic cultural powerhouse. Beyond amplifying the Houston native’s journey to success, the project will also touch on how Megan overcame various personal hurdles to thrive in her professional career.”
