Rolling Loud Will Livestream Its Upcoming Miami Festival On Twitch

Rolling Loud is returning to its hometown in just 11 days but even if you aren’t in Miami — or just couldn’t get tickets — you’ll be able to keep up with the hijinks on Twitch. Rolling Loud has announced that it will once again live stream the majority of the event and artists will even be able to see the chat so fans at home won’t feel left out. The Miami event is set to be headlined by Future, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar, taking over the Hard Rock Stadium on July 22-24.

Other performers on the lineup include ASAP Ferg, Baby Keem, City Girls, Don Toliver, Gunna, Lil Uzi Vert, Moneybagg Yo, Playboi Carti, Saweetie, Three 6 Mafia, and more. In addition to streaming live, select performances will find their way onto the Rolling Loud YouTube channel, where you can watch past performances from the 2021 New York festival and the 2021 LA festival.

Of course, even with the Miami festival around the corner, Rolling Loud fans have plenty more to look forward to this year. In addition to expanding to Toronto for the first time with UK rapper Dave and Nigerian singer Wizkid, the roaming festival is also plotting its return to New York with locals ASAP Rocky and Nicki Minaj. Meanwhile, Future is billed as the third headliner at both festivals along with Miami, which really makes you wonder if he should do LA for consistency or give someone else a chance for variety.

Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’ Stays Atop The Hot 100 Chart For A Ninth Week But Lizzo Is Nipping At His Heels

Harry Styles’ “As It Was” has had an unprecedented time at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart: It’s one of the only tracks to ever reach the No. 1 spot on four non-consecutive occasions. And after topping this week’s Hot 100 (dated July 16), it will remain there for at least another week, its ninth total. However, could the reign of “As It Was” soon be coming to an end?

Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” just soared up a spot to No. 2, now the track’s highest placement so far, as she gets ready to drop her album, Special, this Friday. Jack Harlow’s “First Class” was bumped back down by Lizzo to the No. 3 spot. Meanwhile, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” has returned to its peak position at No. 4, proving that the Stranger Things effect last far longer than just 15 minutes. Bush moving up two spots dropped “Wait For U” by Future featuring Drake and Tems down a space to the No. 5 spot, and Drake and 21 Savage’s “Jimmy Cooks” down to No. 6.

Rounding out the top 10 are Bad Bunny & Choncho Corleone’s “Me Porto Bonito” at No. 7, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” holding strong on the chart at No. 8, and Beyoncé’s feverish “Break My Soul” at No. 9. The only new entrant to this week’s top 10 is Latto’s “Big Energy,” who returns to the podium by knocking out Joji’s “Glimpse Of Us” out of the top 10.

Lizzo’s rise to No. 2 is a fortuitously timed one, given her upcoming album release. And perhaps Styles, who just teased the July 13th release of his “Late Night Talking” video, is ready to let another song from Harry’s House have its moment in the sun?

Eminem Announces ‘Curtain Call 2,’ The Second Greatest Hits Compilation Of His Career

Back in 2005, Eminem released his greatest hits compilation, Curtain Call: The Hits. The project was filled with his popular singles like “My Name Is,” “Stan,” “Lose Yourself,” “The Real Slim Shady,” and more. Curtain Call: The Hits arrived amid retirement rumors around Eminem as even the rapper himself was unsure of what direction his career would go at the time. As we now know, he returned four years later with Relapse, and the following year he dropped the Grammy-winning Recovery. Almost 17 years after Curtain Call: The Hits, Eminem is ready to release his second greatest hits compilation.

Eminem took to social media today to announce Curtain Call 2. A press release for the upcoming project revealed that it will arrive on August 5 and only feature “music from all Eminem projects from Relapse forward.” This includes side projects, guest appearances, songs for films, and tracks from his solo albums. The announcement also noted that “From the D 2 the LBC” and “The King And I,” which feature Snoop Dogg and Cee-Lo Green respectively, will also appear on the project as well as a previously unreleased track which will be revealed “in the coming weeks.”

Curtain Call 2 will receive a standard release as well as a limited edition box set and a limited amount of autographed vinyl available on Eminem’s website.

You can view the cover art for Curtain Call 2 above and read more information about the project here.

DJ Premier Kicks Off Hip-Hop’s 50-Year Anniversary With An EP Featuring Lil Wayne, Nas, And Slick Rick

It’s widely acknowledged that the cultural phenomenon known as hip-hop officially began at a house party in The Bronx, New York on August 11, 1973. That means hip-hop is nearly 50 years old, and to celebrate its impending golden jubilee, Mass Appeal has announced the Hip-Hop 50: The Soundtrack project, 10 EPs produced by some of the culture’s biggest names to commemorate hip-hop’s longevity (the ha, the ha). The first will be DJ Premier: Hip-Hop 50 Volume 1, produced by… I mean, it’s right there in the title… dropping on July 15 via Mass Appeal and The Orchard.

The project’s five tracks will feature appearances from old-school legends like Nas and Slick Rick, contemporary craft masters like Joey Badass, Rapsody, and Run The Jewels, and cross-generational all-timer Lil Wayne. In a statement, DJ Premier said, “It’s an honor to kick off this iconic Hip Hop 50 music program. Hip Hop continues to inspire fans across the globe and it’s incredible to think of what the next 50 years will bring.” It seems likely that the new track Premier and Nas previewed last week is actually “Beat Breaks,” their collaboration from this project.

Future EPs in the Hip-Hop 50: The Soundtrack will include entries produced by Hit-Boy, Mike Will Made-It, Mustard, No I.D., Swizz Beatz, The-Dream, and more. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Universal Hip-Hop Museum, as well as other charitable organizations. Other arms of the Hip-Hop 50 initiative include live event programming and a slate of documentaries with Paramount + and Showtime, including the Supreme Team documentary that premiered on Friday, July 10, as well as the Spotify Original podcast, The Bridge: 50 Years of Hip-Hop, hosted by Miss Info and Nas.

DJ Premier: Hip Hop 50 Volume 1 is out 7/15 via Mass Appeal Records and The Orchard. You can pre-save it here. You can see the tracklist below.

01. “Lettin’ Off Steam” Feat. Joey Bada$$
02. “Remy Rap” Feat. Remy Ma & Rapsody
03. “Beat Breaks” Feat. Nas
04. “Terrible 2’s” Feat. Run The Jewels
05. “The Root Of All” Feat. Lil Wayne & Slick Rick

Kevin Gates Delivers A Simple And Vulnerable Performance Of ‘Bad For Me’ On ‘The Eye’

The Eye usually features up-and-coming artists taking to a minimal studio space for a one-shot, black-and-white performance of discography highlights, with just a single microphone and camera capturing the rendition. That’s mostly true for the latest installment, but this time, performing is somebody we’ve already known well for years now: Kevin Gates.

The Louisiana rapper has been at it for well over a decade, with his first brush with mainstream success coming in 2013 via the Stranger Than Fiction mixtape, his first release to land on the Billboard 200. A few years after that, in 2016, he dropped his debut album, Islah, which managed a peak all the way up at No. 2. The 2019 follow-up I’m Him also fared well, topping out at No. 4. Most recently, his third album, June’s Khaza (which we named one of our most-anticipated rap albums of the summer), was the rapper’s third straight top-10 LP. (A couple mixtapes, 2017’s By Any Means 2 and 2018’s Luca Brasi 3, also both peaked at No. 4.)

So, Gates comes into his new performance for The Eye with a wealth of experience and success by his side. With the instrumental backing him, Gates goes hard for two minutes, sometimes spitting quick-paced verses and sometimes delivering some tender singing.

On the vulnerable track, a single from Khaza, he sings of a woman he loves, for better or worse. Lyrics include, “No one loves you like I will / Feel like Yung Bleu ’cause you mines still / Baby, tell me what the fuck they know ’bout our love / Our love is a fire inside and it’s burnin’ forever.”

Cardi B Teases A Video For ‘Hot Sh*t’ After Expressing Some Technical Frustrations About Preparing It

At the beginning of the month, Cardi B continued the journey towards her long-awaited sophomore album by releasing “Hot Sh*t,” her fiery collaboration with Kanye West and Lil Durk. The track features three solid verses from the artists who all did well over Tay Keith’s thumping production. Now, almost two weeks after the song’s arrival, Cardi is finally ready to share a video for it. She announced the visual with a brief teaser video that captures her descending from the side of a skyscraper. Cardi also confirmed that the video will arrive on July 12 at 8pm ET.

Shortly after she released “Hot Sh*t,” Cardi explained why a video did not arrive together with the single.

“Oh my goodness, I don’t want to talk about the video because this video has brought me so much drama,” she said during an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “So this is the first time I ever do CGI. I’m very particular on how I like my things, and I really like when things look super realistic. I like building sets, or I like to be in a place.”

She continued, “I couldn’t maneuver or move how I wanted to, because I was very confused. After I finished the video, I find out that this sh*t takes so long. I did this video around March, and it’s still not even ready yet. And it’s just so frustrating that I’m like, ‘You know what? Just put the f*cking song out. I don’t even give a f*ck anymore. I’m over it.’”

Burna Boy Details The Vibrant Life Of A Superstar Through His Eyes In The Video For ‘Vanilla’

Burna Boy took another step forward in his quest toward worldwide dominance with the release of his sixth album Love, Damini. The project arrived on Friday with 19 songs and contributions from acts all around the globe. They include American acts Kehlani, Blxst, and Khalid, Colombia’s J Balvin, British artists J Hus and Ed Sheeran, fellow Nigerian Victony, Jamaican singer Popcaan, and more. The project seems to be received well a few days after its release, but to keep up the promotion, Burna returns with a new treat in the form of a new video for “Vanilla.’

The record is a warm release that is placed toward the end of Love, Damini. In the new visual, Burna delivers a vibrant and exciting look at his superstar life through his own eyes thanks to the use of Ray-Ban Stories sunglasses. Throughout the video, we’re introduced to dancers, instrumentalists, chess players, a group of Burna fans, and more.

The video for “Vanilla” arrives after Burna dropped a romantic “For My Hand” visual with Ed Sheeran. It joins previously released videos “Kilometre” and the summer hit “Last Last.”

Love, Damini is out now via Atlantic Records. You can stream it here.

Tobe Nwigwe Has A Reason To Flex In His ‘Been Broke’ Video With 2 Chainz, Chamillionaire, And Fat

Alief, Texas rapper Tobe Nwigwe‘s videos are always elaborate, self-directed affairs but he really pulls out all the stops in his new video for “Been Broke,” which also features Atlanta trap captain 2 Chainz, Houston hard hitter Chamillionaire, and, as always, Tobe’s wife, Fat. As he does in many of his videos, Tobe highlights his Nigerian heritage, his family’s close bond, and unique aesthetic sensibilities. This time, though, he goes all-in on flexing his wealth too, contrasting his current circumstances with the song’s all-too-relatable chorus.

The video opens with a reference to the tradition of a newly wedded couple being showered with cash as he and Fat embrace on the lawn of a massive mansion, surrounded by aunties in their big hats, the usual Tobe dance team, and a squadron of muscle cars doing laps around the circular driveway. Of course, there’s the requisite shot of Tobe, Fat, and their babies, then 2 Chainz and Chamillionaire both tell their own rags-to-riches stories from various spots on the grounds. Chainz’s verse makes nifty use of an international wordplay motif, while Chamillionaire brags about escaping one-hit-wonder status. And, as usual, the whole cast is decked out in mint green styles designed by Tobe himself.

The Popular LoFi Girl YouTube Stream Was Disabled Due To Copyright Claims

Music fans looking for lofi beats to relax/study to will find it that much harder to do so, as the number one stream on YouTube, the popular LoFi Girl, has reportedly been disabled over a copyright claim. Over the past few years, the LoFi Girl channel — which was previously known as Chilled Cow, for some reason — has grown in ubiquity, eventually renaming itself for its most popular stream, which featured an endless loop of an anime-style animated girl ostensibly listening to the downtempo, often-sampled hip-hop beats on her headphones while writing in a notebook.

According to Futurism, the channel’s proprietors have called the copyright claim that took down the stream “false” in a post on Twitter, writing, “The lofi radios have been taken down because of false copyright strikes. Hopefully, @YouTubeCreators @YouTube will sort this quickly…”

Fans checking out the LoFi Girl profile can still see the “lofi hip hop radio – beats to relax/studio to” thumbnail, but rather than its usual bright red “Live” marker, it now shows the truly incredible runtime of 20,843:42:51 (that’s 868 days or about 2 years, four months, and two weeks of music). Clicking on it only retrieves an error message: “This live stream recording is not available.” The comments are filled with messages in at least six languages describing the stream’s personal significance to the commenters, many of whom, of course, wish for its return. The stream was last interrupted in February 2020, when it was taken down by an error at YouTube.

They might just get their wish; a reply from @TeamYouTube confirms that “the takedown requests were abusive” and that the stream should be restored in “24-48 hours.”

Kanye West Made A Surprise Appearance At The Game’s LA Show To Perform ‘Eazy’

Kanye West hasn’t performed live for some months thanks to his dropping out of Coachella at the last moment, but fans of The Game got to see his return to the stage when he made an impromptu appearance during the Compton rapper’s show at The Novo in downtown Los Angeles Saturday night and performed his verse from their recent collaboration, “Eazy.” It was also the first time the duo has played the song live since its controversial debut in January.

The Game told the audience, “[Kanye] ain’t come to perform no songs. He told me how he was coming, he told me he was gonna be three minutes late – he said he might show up in the middle of the verse cause he got sh*t to do. I love you for always being there for me, man. You my motherf*ckin’ brother – he know it, I tell him in front of y’all.” Kanye, typically masked up, at first allowed his pre-recorded vocals to play but eventually grabbed a mic and performed. The Game followed up by bringing out Lil Wayne.

Kanye’s next billed performance will be at Rolling Loud in Miami on July 22. Incidentally, one of the last times he publicly performed was at Future’s Rolling Loud performance in San Bernardino last year.
