Kevin Gates Kills The “Rumors” On Latest Single

We might not have received the deluxe edition of Khaza but Kevin Gates still has a surplus of unreleased music in the vault. The Louisiana native has been coming through with plenty of new records in recent times. It could be a strong indication that a new project might be in the pipeline for this fall. Earlier this month, the rapper slid through with his new single, “Rumors.” Addressing the headlines that surrounded his name, the rapper sets the record straight surrounding the gossip that surrounds him.

Gates’ unapologetic persona takes center stage from the second the record begins. The rapper samples his wild quote from earlier this year where he stated, “Find me two n***as. Find me the one who said he stick his d*ck in me and find me the one who say I told on him. You could blow my brains out.” The rapper reflects on his street credentials across the record, vividly depicting his time in the streets and in prison while also paying homage to Gillie Da Kid’s son, Cheese, who passed away last month.

Kevin Gates Keeps His Foot On The Gas

The latest offering from Gates follows the release of singles like “I Don’t Apologize,” “3rd World Panama,” and “Do It Again.” Although he hasn’t confirmed whether a new project will arrive this year, he clearly isn’t holding back on releasing new music. At the same time, he’s also been a bit more visible in the public eye, as well, appearing on Revolt TV’s Crew League and facing off against Dave star, Gata.

Besides his recent single, fans have speculated that Drake and Kevin Gates might have new music together. The Baton Rouge rapper made a cameo at one of Drake’s shows in California recently with the Canadian rapper giving him a shout-out on stage. Hopefully, if there is new music with the two of them, we’ll hear it on Drake’s forthcoming album For All The Dogs. For now, check out Kevin Gates’ new single above.

Quotable Lyrics
He told me, you ain’t commit murder, lil’ one did that to himself
Coca-Cola, soda bath, yoga class to make it stretch
My conscience be messin’ with me, make me think I need some help
Hmmm, just turned on the digi in the kitchen by myself

Kevin Gates Unveils New Single “Trying 2 Forgive”

Kevin Gates is back at work. Last year, the rapper emerged with his latest body of work, Khaza – a sequel to his #1 debut album, Islah. The body of work came at a time when Gates made plenty of headlines for wild interviews rather than the music itself but Khaza further proved that Kevin Gates remains one of the best in the South. The project boasted no features and showcased his range, musically and emotionally, for an impressive outing that captured everything we love about Kevin Gates’ music.

Since the album dropped, Kevin Gates has slowly released a handful of records and features. However, on Friday, he linked up with T.I. for their new collaboration, “Active.” Tip initially teased the single roughly a year ago but fans have been hoping for an official release. Just as things between T.I. and Boosie began to bubble up, the King Of The South blessed us with the record which shows him and Kevin Gates at their absolute best.

Kevin Gates – Trying 2 Forgive

Shortly after his collab with T.I. dropped, Kevin Gates doubled back with the release of his latest single, “Trying 2 Forgive.” The new single marks his follow-up to “Breakfast,” which he unveiled around Valentine’s Day. This time, Gates unleashes a hard-hitting banger that finds him reflecting on self-improvement and transforming into the head honcho in the streets. Yung Lan holds down the production on this one, delivering a triumphant anthem that pairs perfectly with Gates’ baritone melodic and gruff flow.

Between “Breakfast” and “Trying 2 Forgive,” it seems as though Kevin Gates could be preparing to unload the deluxe edition of Khaza in the near future. Kevin Gates began teasing its release in late June with a PDA from his bathtub. Shortly after, he blessed fans with the release of “I Don’t Hit It With The Fork,” which built anticipation even further. Hopefully, we get a release date for the project soon. For the time being, we’ll be listening to “Trying 2 Forgive” on repeat.

Quotable Lyrics
I rather be in Georgia with a light skin Barbie
Putting dick all in her back, we making love until the morning
I’m cooking on a Foreman, please don’t look at it alarmin’
I’m a gangster with a mouth full of gold, she love when I’m performin’

Kevin Gates Delivers A Simple And Vulnerable Performance Of ‘Bad For Me’ On ‘The Eye’

The Eye usually features up-and-coming artists taking to a minimal studio space for a one-shot, black-and-white performance of discography highlights, with just a single microphone and camera capturing the rendition. That’s mostly true for the latest installment, but this time, performing is somebody we’ve already known well for years now: Kevin Gates.

The Louisiana rapper has been at it for well over a decade, with his first brush with mainstream success coming in 2013 via the Stranger Than Fiction mixtape, his first release to land on the Billboard 200. A few years after that, in 2016, he dropped his debut album, Islah, which managed a peak all the way up at No. 2. The 2019 follow-up I’m Him also fared well, topping out at No. 4. Most recently, his third album, June’s Khaza (which we named one of our most-anticipated rap albums of the summer), was the rapper’s third straight top-10 LP. (A couple mixtapes, 2017’s By Any Means 2 and 2018’s Luca Brasi 3, also both peaked at No. 4.)

So, Gates comes into his new performance for The Eye with a wealth of experience and success by his side. With the instrumental backing him, Gates goes hard for two minutes, sometimes spitting quick-paced verses and sometimes delivering some tender singing.

On the vulnerable track, a single from Khaza, he sings of a woman he loves, for better or worse. Lyrics include, “No one loves you like I will / Feel like Yung Bleu ’cause you mines still / Baby, tell me what the fuck they know ’bout our love / Our love is a fire inside and it’s burnin’ forever.”
