Tokyo Toni Comically Shuts Down Antonio Brown’s Rapping In His Face: “Next!”

Antonio Brown was the most recent guest on the Aunt-Tea Podcast with Tokyo Toni, Karlissa Saffold, and Tia Kemp, and it was a pretty hilarious affair for multiple reasons. But one particularly viral clip was when he started to rap to them, and Tokyo wasn’t feeling it one bit. “Okay, that’s boring,” she told the recent father while sitting back down, as she had gotten up to twerk. “Shut the f**k up, next! Your s**t dry.” Then, he did a little dance for them, which was also quite amusing because they seemed a little underwhelmed by it. Regardless, the full episode drops this Sunday (August 25) via the Zeus Network, so you can see for yourself what else this quartet got up to.

But things aren’t always this juvenile and playful on the Aunt-Tea Podcast, whether they stage these things for more engagement or not. Tokyo Toni and Karlissa Saffold almost got into a fight during a recent episode of the show, seemingly while folks were on a break. Fortunately, security stepped in and the situation didn’t escalate at all, but guest Big Freeida seemed pretty uncomfortable as a result of the exchange. It’s exactly the kind of content that fans of the program might expect, though, so we guess it’s not worth a big deal unless it crosses a certain line.

Back to Antonio Brown, though, he is as volatile and unfiltered as ever on social media, recently trolling Brittney Griner after Trump spoke out against the inclusion of trans women in women’s sports. “Congrats to Brittany Griner on a great career,” he captioned a repost of the convicted former president’s quote. This disrespectful take from AB is sadly nothing new, as he made fun of the WNBA star in the past.

As for other Aunt-Tea Podcast shenanigans, Karlissa Saffold recently asked Tokyo Toni and Tia Kemp whether she’s as bad with airing out her son Blueface’s dirty laundry as Momma Dee is with her son Lil Scrappy. This was right before Dee joined them as their special guest, so you can imagine how that conversation went. We’ll see what other antics these folks get up to in the future.

Central Cee Is Equal Parts Cocky & Humble On New Two Pack “Bolide Noir”

One of the most important names in all of UK hip-hop right now is back. West Londoner Central Cee is here with a new two-pack for us, “Bolide Noir”. It features the title track, which features the Frenchman, JRK 19, and “Billion Streams Freestyle”. The Columbia Records signee has been enjoying a pretty fruitful 2024 thanks to some big singles and a handful of features. When it comes to the former, you have “BAND4BAND” with Lil Baby and now “gen z luv”, which is gaining steam as we speak. As for the latter, he was able to grab a guest spot on J. Cole’s surprise project Might Delete Later. Of course, you also can’t forget about his controversial Ice Spice collab “Did It First”. That led to lots of rumors, confusion and a breakup with influencer, Madeline Argy.

These two singles are the first offerings since that debacle, and they look to be more hits for Cench in the near future. “Bolide Noir” is the banger of the tandem, and this probably the song that’s going to cause a little debate online. In fact, it already has, as DJ Akademiks posed the question with a screenshot of the bars below. Some fans were giving Cee his flowers, while others were quick to dismiss his bold statements. Then, you have “Billion Streams Freestyle”, which sees him in a reflective state talking about how far he’s come and his biggest career accomplishments. “Said that my b**** was gay, got a billion streams, I’m a mainstream rapper“. Check out the Central Cee singles with the links below.

Quotable Lyrics From “Bolide Noir”:

I’m just trying to be direct
Rappers see me as a threat, so they’re leaving me on read
When they put me on their song
They got to write their verse again
They got to go pick up their pens

Kendrick Lamar Has Drake Fans Feeling Bored After “Not Like Us” Breaks Another Record

Here we go again… Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” has broken yet another Spotify record once held by his rival Drake’s 2018 hit, “God’s Plan.” This time, it’s for the fastest rap song ever to surpass 700 million streams on the platform, and you probably already know the discourse around it. K.Dot fans are rejoicing in the victory, and OVO fans want Kendrick to thank the 6ix God for his success. Either way, both groups are arguing with each other over pointless numbers talk. Nothing will change the Compton lyricist’s victory, and it would take about 85 more tracks of this level of success to even begin to creep up on the Toronto superstar’s numbers on DSPs.

What’s more is that their post-beef movement is also further polarizing fans into making judgement calls about the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, confusing their preference for either artist as analysis on the isolated battle itself. The former popped out for a Juneteenth show and music video, keeping quiet throughout it all. The latter just dropped a new set of tracks which many believe he’s using to try to revive his various 2024 feuds. So folks are either labeling this as desperate or are fully content with just the existence of new music regardless of quality… Such is the state of public discourse in this year’s music culture.

Kendrick Lamar Breaks Another “God’s Plan” Spotify Record

Kendrick Lamar fans even pointed to him predicting some of Drake’s new angles on these IG drops, although that’s just a speculative theory up for interpretation. That’s just one example of how this beef became more about fans versus fans rather than rapper versus rapper ever since “The Heart Part 6” dropped. Another is how Drizzy’s every move has fallen victim to public scrutiny, irremovable from the context of the battle in many’s eyes. Much like Big vs. ‘Pac and Jay vs. Nas before them, we’re now at the exhausting point in which the least talked about parts of their rivalry are their actual lyrics against each other.

For hip-hop culture and music fans at large, this is a pretty disappointing level of animosity. At least many folks instead focused on both the gang unity that Kendrick Lamar promoted and on Drake’s commitment to giving fans what they love from him. But for every new record that “Not Like Us” breaks in the future – and trust us, it will – fans will once again display their blind support in full colors. Many lines from the battle have aged like fine wine, but “Hey, Drake, they’re not slow” is certainly on the opposite end of the spectrum for both extreme fanbases.

Joe Budden Rips Yung Miami To Shreds For Laughing At “Pump It Up” Plaque

Earlier this week, Joe Budden received a gold plaque from the RIAA for his 2003 single, “Pump It Up.” While the feat is certainly one to celebrate, despite arriving 21 years after the track’s release, Yung Miami didn’t think so. She took to X to issue a shady response to the news, making it clear that she was not impressed.

Yung Miami reacted with a simple series of laughing emojis. Instead of engaging right away, Budden decided to bow out altogether. “It would be too easy,” he wrote. “Maybe tmw lol.” She then called him a bully, slamming him for laughing at other people’s accomplishments and suggesting she was giving him a taste of his own medicine.

Joe Budden Claims Yung Miami Would Be “Dead Last” On List Of Best Female Rappers

Now, however, he’s responded directly to the shade during an episode of his podcast. In a clip from the episode, he clarified that he doesn’t plan to disrespect Yung Miami or call her out her name, instead choosing to keep things professional. He went on to rip her career to shreds, claiming that on a list of the best female rappers, she would be “dead last.” Budden added that he didn’t expect Yung Miami to go after him like this, particularly considering issues with her label she admitted to on Caresha Please.

In the explosive season 2 premiere of her podcast, she revealed that her label told her they haven’t been seeing enough growth from her as an artist, which explains why she hasn’t put more music out. What do you think of Yung Miami clowning Joe Budden because his 2003 single just went gold? What about him dissing her in response? Who do you think is in the right? Today In Hip Hop History: Hot 97 Fired Paddy Duke For His Role In 1989 Yusuf Hawkins Killing 4 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2020 08 24 at 8.38.09 AM 750x400

On this date in 2020, New York-based radio station Hot 97 terminated one of its longtime employees after it was revealed that he played a role in the death of 16-year-old Yusuf Hawkins in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

Pasquale Raucci, who is better known on the airwaves as “Paddy Duke,” was fired from Hot 97 after HBO documentary Storm Over Brooklyn unveiled that Raucci was a member of the white mob of teenagers who killed Hawkins while he was in the mostly Italian neighborhood seeking to purchase a car.

Raucci was shown in Storm Over Brooklyn, detailing his hiring at the station in 1994 and his close work with award-winning on-air personality Angie Martinez.

After the release of the documentary, Hot 97 made a statement about the firing of Raucci, stating, “After watching HBO’s Storm over Brooklyn, HOT97 was shocked and took swift action. Paddy Duke is no longer employed by HOT97. The march for social justice continues.”

Duke was fired the day after the 31st anniversary of Hawkins’ murder.

Today in Hip Hop History: Tha Alkaholiks Dropped Their Debut Album ’21 & Over’ 31 Years Ago

TodayInHipHopHistory:ThaAlkaholiks'DebutAlbum'&Over'TurnsYearsOld!

On this date in 1993, J-Ro, Tash, and E-Swift, the West Coast collective known as Tha Alkaholiks, released their premiere album 21 & Over on Steve Rifkind’s Loud/RCA imprint.

Founded by West Coast legend King Tee, Tha Alkaholiks and their music are recognized as the epitome of Cali party music, with the clinking bottles and drunken burps as the backdrop. The 21 & Over project served as one of the few examples of West Coast Hip Hop that wasn’t oversaturated with California gang life. Instead, Tha Liks were a part of the Cali movement of MCs who had to prove their lyrical skills were competitive compared to their East Coast counterparts.

The ten-track classic is less than 40 minutes in length. Still, the drunken style theme is maintained throughout the entire project, with sure shot singles like “Last Call,” “Make Room,” and “Likwit” that solidified Tha Liks as a force from the West that continues to be recognized for their contribution to the game.

Salute to King Tee and the crew for churning out this timeless Hip Hop classic!

For now, it remains unclear exactly when the child was born, though Hailey told W magazine that she was already six months along when she finally announced the pregnancy. According to her, the bump didn’t become obvious until her second trimester, making it fairly easy to hide. “I didn’t have a belly, really, until I was six months pregnant, which was when I announced it. PlayThatBoiZay’s New Album “VIP” Is Pure Delirium

PlayThatBoiZay, outside of some spot features and loose singles, has been quite inactive. However, there is a gut-wrenching/valid reason as to why that’s been the case. According to Clash Music, the Florida product nearly lost his life in 2021 due to a car accident in 2021. It was so serious that he was “unable to walk and in a state of amnesia for months”. It wouldn’t be until about June 2022 that PlayThatBoiZay would be able to return to his “normal” life. He was an opener for fellow Loma Vista Recordings label mate Denzel Curry when he was touring Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Also during that slow reintegration period, PlayThatBoiZay would go back to work on the album that now sits in front of us this weekend, VIP.

Knowing that, it’s clear that he’s been through a lot just to get to this point, physically and mentally. It’s why Zay wrote on IG recently, “I been through so much and I’ve never let my problems define me. I always put myself first. That’s what ‘VIP’ is about. It’s the acknowledgement that your existence is important and putting yourself first without anyone’s approval”. That valid “selfishness” is very prevalent all over the trim 14-track, 32-minute offering both in the performance and instrumental department. The mix of industrial, trap metal, rage, and touch of horrorcore are something that he’s been doing for years now.

There are going to be some who say that he’s ripping off JPEGMAFIA and Denzel Curry to some extent. We would argue he’s utilizing his mentors’ advice to make something that is still his own. It sort of plays Mischievous South but somehow even dirtier and more aggressive. Like Zay said, “I’ve never let my problems define me”. While he was dealing with a lot, he used all of this time to push through, which allowed him to create his best work yet.
