How Do You Pronounce Muni Long?

Muni Long has put in the work. Her career began as Priscilla Renea, her real name, and included solo hits like 2009’s “Dollhouse.” She became a prolific songwriter for the likes of Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Meek Mill, Nick Jonas, and too many more.

But since changing her stage name to Muni Long in 2020, her artistry has reached new heights, and she’s making sure everybody knows her name in more ways than one. Maybe you’ve just now learned of her after “Hrs & Hrs” won Best R&B Performance at last Sunday’s 2023 Grammys. If you’re unsure how to pronounce Muni Long, all you have to do is look up her Instagram profile, and she literally spells it out for you: “MUH-Knee LONG 💸💰💸💰.”

And if you need further translation, Muni Long is pronounced “Money Long.”

Long debuted her new identity with Black Like This in 2020, and then came Public Displays Of Affection in 2021. “Hrs & Hrs” became her first Billboard Hot 100 entry by early 2022 (peaking at No. 16), around the same time Uproxx caught up with Long.

“My intention is not to go viral or have everybody love what I’m doing, I really don’t care,” she told us in January 2022. “I couldn’t care less about that part. I think that’s part of the magic, right? It was like a balance between focusing on what you want and attracting it and then creating that distance so it’s like you’re not desperate for it when it comes to you. I’m just excited that I finally figured out that formula because I know that that means I can do this over and over again.”

Long added in the same interview, “Even the name Muni Long is an affirmation. My whole life is centered around attracting the best possible out of this universe, and you can’t do that when you have any type of blockages or animosity. Of course, you need darkness in order for life to exist and vice versa, but I just choose to be the light and that’s really the biggest thing.”

Fly Anakin Drops A New ‘Skinemaxxx’ Single Called ‘Outsidigan’s Anthem’

Last year, Fly Anakin unveiled his highly anticipated debut album Frank, which featured guests like Henny L.O., Pink Siifu, Billz Egypt, Nickelus F, and more. The Richmond, Virginia-based performer recently announced Skinemaxxx, a pair of EPs produced by Foisey, with Side A arriving soon.

In our 2017 interview with Anakin, whose real name is Frank, he talked about his role in the rap collective Mutant Academy.

“In my mind, every member got superpowers, but we’re human and we ain’t sh*t, so we stuck on Earth entertaining ya’ll,” he explained. “Mutant Academy started out as a duo between Henny L.O. and myself in 2011. Chiiild Inches Closer To Dropping ‘Better Luck In The Next Life’ With His Emotive ‘Antidote’ Single

When Chiiild dropped “Bon Voyage” last November, he hinted that Better Luck In The Next Life was coming in 2023. December brought “You Get Me (A Final Word),” and then March 3 was identified as the album’s official release date around the arrival of “Good For Now” featuring Lucky Daye last month.

Today, February 8, “Antidote” joined the list of Better Luck In The Next Life singles.

“‘Antidote’ is about being enamored by a person,” Chiiild said in a statement. “It describes the infatuation of watching someone live life optimistically and simply wanting a piece of that because they symbolize the light for you. It is a representation of the idea that this person could save me from any emotional or physical struggle.”

The lyrics viscerally bear that out.

The ethereal track takes listeners into Chiiild’s vulnerable inner monologue. He’s in awe of someone as “the light, you are my only source” and wonders “where you are when your eyes close” because “I know you’re hurtin’, but it barely shows.” He opens himself up to a scary possibility: “Are you the one?Are you the antidote?”

Chiiild is set to begin his Better Luck In The Next Life Tour on March 2 in Santa Ana, California. All dates and ticket information can be found here.

What Is The Correct Pronunciation Of ‘Beyhive?’

Beyoncé is at the tip of everyone’s tongue for various reasons. To be fair, she always is the topic of conversation somewhere, but she’s everywhere right now. Beyoncé became the most Grammy-awarded artist of all time despite controversially losing out on Album Of The Year. That’s before mentioning the metaphorical carnage surrounding ticketing to her forthcoming Renaissance World Tour.

In other words, the Beyhive is busy. But how do you pronounce the name of Beyoncé’s zealous fan base?

The overwhelming response across Reddit is that “Beyhive” is pronounced like “Bee Hive” with Beyoncé as the Queen Bey (pronounced Queen Bee). Google also has you covered, and if you still aren’t totally convinced, Bomani Jones used it in a sentence on his HBO series Game Theory earlier this week.

Jones addressed people — namely, Stephen A. Smith — comparing Rihanna to Beyoncé ahead of Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII halftime performance on Sunday, February 12. Jones was asked if Rihanna “can outdo Beyoncé” and cited the Beyhive as a driving force behind his answer.

“I got on one side the Beyhive, the other side — what, they call themselves The Navy, and you want me to pick one?” Jones said. “And the answer is Rihanna cannot outdo Beyoncé for one reason. Stop the clapping! You’re going to get me in trouble. Beyoncé’s from Houston.”

Queen Latifah Doesn’t Want Women In Rap To Be Used As Pawns

When the Queen drops off advice—Latifah, that is—Hip Hop listens. She is widely respected as a Rap pioneer who aided in changing the game, especially for women on the scene. There weren’t many ladies taking to the microphone when Queen Latifah emerged, but now that she has a successful career in and out of music, she’s delivering advice for other women making waves in Rap.

“Don’t be a pawn, control your career, speak from the heart, say what you want to say, represent us, and let’s go. Let’s get this,” she told Laverne Cox on the Grammys red carpet. Latifah was one of dozens of artists who performed during the Grammys’ Hip Hop 50th tribute. She’s ready for another 50 years, and she hopes women in Hip Hop will steer clear of letting the industry take advantage of their talents.

Like the men in the genre, women are often seen fighting with one another. Whether online or throwing subtle jabs lyrically, it’s easy to find artists with deep-seated tensions. “I would say to you, now is the time for you to do whatever the F you want with your career because we had that done to us,” Latifah told E! News. “A lot of crews kind of claimed, like, the one female in the group and wouldn’t kind of let us all work with each other sometimes.”

“Then the smart ones, of course, we got to jump on each other’s records and make smash hit music and elevate the whole genre,” she added. “So, if you have the power, or if you want to work with somebody, go work with them. It’s all ego… And most of the time, it’s not our ego. It’s somebody else’s ego competing against someone else’s, and we’re just the pawns.”

Of course, Latifah didn’t speak on anyone specifically, but it didn’t take long for people to weigh in. For those who didn’t focus on naming names, they were happy to see an icon take a stance against division in Hip Hop and advocate for unity.

Offset & Cardi B React To J. Prince’s Insults: “BIG LIES”

It’s brewing contention that Offset is hoping to lay to rest. The rapper and his family have been grieving the loss of Takeoff, but the late Migos rapper’s death has caused lines to be drawn in the sand. Takeoff was an innocent bystander who caught a stray bullet that was fired during a verbal altercation. He was in Houston at a private party with Quavo at the time. Several others were also in attendance, including members of J. Prince’s family.

The Princes took heat over Takeoff’s death, and J. Prince defended them at every step. During his recent interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, he suggested that Offset needed to take a step back because he allegedly wasn’t on good terms with Takeoff at the time of his passing.

It was a mention that many didn’t see as appropriate considering the circumstances, but Offset clapped back. Not long ago, Prince returned with a few more insults, calling Offset a “fake mothaf*cka” and a “clown.” He said he helped Offset and Cardi B in Los Angeles when they were nervous about making certain moves. He also alleged Offset called him after getting into a fight in Atlanta. To top things off, Prince claimed that the rapper’s family doesn’t “f*ck with” him anymore, and to all of it, Cardi tweeted, “BIG LIES.”

Someone attempted to call her out about the L.A. story. She said it was Wack 100 and Big U who came to her show, not Prince. Meanwhile, Offset also acknowledged Prince’s latest verbal jab. “Street N*gga turn 👮🏾,” the Migos rapper wrote. “Never needed you for no smoke u da police all mouth with no proof just fairy tales 😂 let this be the last time we speak on this.”

Further, on Instagram, Prince also wrote: “Never been a bully or lived a life where I abused my power on the weak. No matter what you heard; it’s cap. I’m glad I’m not one of those individuals that my family has to hold their head down when my name is mentioned. So excuse me while I deal with these clowns because ain’t nobody gonna tell them the truth like I’m a give it to them.”
