Chiiild Wishes Listeners “Better Luck In The Next Life” On New Album

Before the weekend comes to an end, we’ve got more New Music Friday leftovers for your consideration. This week, Chiiild joins the roster of artists unleashing new albums, following singles like “Bon Voyage” and “Good For Now” featuring Lucky Daye with his 12-track Better Luck In The Next Life album. It arrived at midnight on March 3rd and has since earned the creative an abundance of new listeners.

Besides the aforementioned guest appearance, Chiiild also worked with a host of other talented lyricists. Alina Baraz and Caitlyn Scarlett join him on “Hell And High Water,” while Charlotte Cardin helped out with “I Hope I Packed A Parachute.” The rest of the album’s songs, the Canadian experimentalist handles on his own.

Chiiild and Lucky Daye are Feeling “Good For Now”

On his link-up with Daye, Chiiild markedly reflects on how important it is to stay present. “Tell me that we’re dreaming, don’t say that we’re in love, uh / Whatever this is, it’s good for now, at night we’ve been restless,” he sings. “You say that we’re destined, I say you’re just caught in the moment/ When you’re close, I get reckless, laying in the wreckage.”

In a press release, the “Pirouette” hitmaker described his new album as “a bit of an autobiographical record that covers all of the things that [he loves] and some of the things [he’s] gone through.” He noted that it’s a “very honest” body of work that only begins to tell his personal story and answer questions not only about his career but also about who he is as a person.

Chiiild Inches Closer To Dropping ‘Better Luck In The Next Life’ With His Emotive ‘Antidote’ Single

When Chiiild dropped “Bon Voyage” last November, he hinted that Better Luck In The Next Life was coming in 2023. December brought “You Get Me (A Final Word),” and then March 3 was identified as the album’s official release date around the arrival of “Good For Now” featuring Lucky Daye last month.

Today, February 8, “Antidote” joined the list of Better Luck In The Next Life singles.

“‘Antidote’ is about being enamored by a person,” Chiiild said in a statement. “It describes the infatuation of watching someone live life optimistically and simply wanting a piece of that because they symbolize the light for you. It is a representation of the idea that this person could save me from any emotional or physical struggle.”

The lyrics viscerally bear that out.

The ethereal track takes listeners into Chiiild’s vulnerable inner monologue. He’s in awe of someone as “the light, you are my only source” and wonders “where you are when your eyes close” because “I know you’re hurtin’, but it barely shows.” He opens himself up to a scary possibility: “Are you the one?Are you the antidote?”

Chiiild is set to begin his Better Luck In The Next Life Tour on March 2 in Santa Ana, California. All dates and ticket information can be found here.

Chiiild And Lucky Daye’s ‘Good For Now’ Confronts The Risks Of Vulnerability

Chiiild is the featured artist on Lucky Daye’s “Compassion,” a track on Daye’s Grammy-nominated album Candy Drip from last March. Nearly one year later, the roles are reversed. On Tuesday, January 10, Chiiild released “Good For You” featuring Daye from his forthcoming album, Better Luck In The Next Life.

The ethereal single begins with strings before settling into a soothing guitar base. Throughout, Chiiild gives listeners a vulnerable glimpse into his stream of consciousness — reflecting on impermanence and the risks of falling in love. “Tell me that we’re dreaming,” he sings. Don’t say that we’re in love / Whatever this is, it’s good for now.”

Daye’s verse only compounds the song’s evocative punch, representing the potential pitfalls of a relationship: “And now you’re mad at me, hard feelings and tragedy / Feeling are bad for me, oh, bad for me / ‘Cause I end up shattering all / I stay even if it changes.”

Also Tuesday, Chiiild announced that Better Luck In The Next Life will arrive on March 3.

In November, Chiiild dropped his adventurous single “Bon Voyage” and provided insight into the larger themes that will be found on the album: “My aim with [Better Luck In The Next Life] is to give you a look inside my mind. Into the doubts, fears, ambitions, and a few connections along the way. It was a form of healing, putting these real situations into songs. When everybody is out here on the same thing, we’re just out here levitating.”
