Judge Orders Prosecution to Destroy Notes Seized from Diddy’s Jail Cell

This week, Sean “Diddy” Combs secured a small but significant legal win after a judge ruled that notes confiscated during a raid on his jail cell must be destroyed.

The raid, carried out by federal authorities at the MDC Brooklyn detention center, led to the seizure of 19 pages of handwritten notes from the rap mogul’s cell. Prosecutors argued that the raid was justified, citing concerns over Diddy’s alleged efforts to influence witnesses and sway prospective jurors while in custody.

However, Diddy’s legal team swiftly challenged the search, claiming the notes contained privileged legal material and that their seizure was a violation of his rights. The matter was brought before Judge Arun Subramanian, who, after hearing arguments from both sides, sided with the defense.

Judge Subramanian ordered prosecutors to “get rid of them,” mandating that all copies of the notes be destroyed and barring their use in the case until a final ruling is made on their admissibility.

Prosecutors have denied intentionally targeting privileged material during the search. However, Diddy’s attorney described the incident as a breach of trust and an infringement on the rights of the Bad Boy Entertainment CEO, who remains embroiled in a high-profile legal battle.

The raid and subsequent controversy underscore the intense scrutiny surrounding Diddy’s actions while incarcerated. Despite this setback for the prosecution, they continue to assert that their actions were justified, maintaining that Diddy has engaged in misconduct from behind bars.

As the case unfolds, this latest ruling adds yet another layer of complexity to what is already shaping up to be a contentious legal showdown.

Jay-Z’s Team Roc Files Lawsuit Against Kansas City PD Over Alleged Misconduct, Lack of Transparency

Jay-Z’s social justice arm, Team Roc, has taken legal action against the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) and the city’s government, accusing them of obstructing efforts to investigate claims of wrongful convictions and police misconduct.

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday (November 19), alleges that the KCKPD has failed to comply with a public records request made under the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) in November 2023. According to Team Roc, despite paying $2,200 in fees, the department has withheld crucial documents related to allegations of officer abuse and misconduct. The 225 documents provided, the group claims, were mostly irrelevant, consisting of personnel and training records instead of the requested information.

“Kansas City residents have suffered enormously as a result of KCKPD abuses,” the lawsuit states. “Some have been framed for crimes they did not commit; some have been coerced into providing false testimony; some have been sexually assaulted; some have endured brutal beatings; and some have even been killed. Rather than promoting a culture of transparency and accountability, the KCKPD has a long history of turning a blind eye to, at best, and even covering up, if not worse, abusive and/or corrupt conduct by its officers.”

Team Roc has been actively seeking transparency from KCKPD since 2021, previously filing lawsuits to obtain records detailing complaints against officers, as well as documents on the training and oversight of the department’s investigative division. The current lawsuit highlights a systemic pattern of alleged misconduct within the department, including framing individuals, coercing false testimony, sexual violence, excessive force, and even fatal incidents.

“When good faith efforts are met with bad faith tactics, the fight for transparency continues in court. Truth deserves no less. The people of Kansas City, Kansas, deserve no less,” Team Roc wrote in an Instagram post announcing the lawsuit.

Attorney Alex Spiro, representing Team Roc, emphasized that the organization has a right under KORA to access the requested records, which could shed light on the alleged abuses. However, the government’s resistance has made legal action necessary.

The government has attempted to block our access to those files, and so we’re suing to see what they don’t want us to see,” Spiro explained.

Team Roc’s lawsuit seeks to compel the release of the withheld documents and to hold the department accountable for its alleged failures in transparency and accountability. This latest legal move underscores their commitment to uncovering the truth and advocating for justice in Kansas City.

LL COOL J is staking a claim for bringing Air Jordan sneakers into Hip-Hop. Appearing with Boy Boy, LL recalled wearing the Bred Jordan 1s on the cover of his Radio album.

“My first album cover, I had the Jordan sneakers on when he was a rookie. I was the first person with the Jordans on in the Radio album cover,” LL said.

“Michael Jordan was a rookie when I did that. Everyone was wearing Adidas and Puma, bro. I put the Jordans on. He ain’t even have no championships.”

What made LL do it? Simple. “I liked the sneakers.”

In September, LL COOL J released his first album in over a decade, THE FORCE (Frequencies of Real Creative Energy), via Def Jam Recordings / Virgin Music Group. This 14-track record, entirely produced by A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip, marks a significant moment in both LL’s career and the Hip-Hop landscape. The album combines modern sounds with classic Hip-Hop energy, showcasing LL’s enduring passion and creativity.

LL describes the album as a return to his roots, likening it to “learning how to rap again.” The project reflects his evolution and unwavering dedication, with THE FORCE opening with the powerful track “Spirit of Cyrus,” featuring a smooth hook by Snoop Dogg. The album also includes collaborations with Nas, Eminem, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Saweetie, and more. A highlight of the album is the lead single, “Murdergram Deux,” featuring Eminem. The music video for “Murdergram Deux,” which is set to be released soon, promises to be a visual spectacle.

“It feels good to finally have this record out in the world,” LL said. “As I’ve said before, this album brings a whole new vibe. I’m returning to my roots…you all better buckle up.”

Metro Boomin Speaks on ‘Personal Issue’ with Drake: ‘Really Hurt Me’

Future and Metro Boomin Announces Two New Albums in 'We Don't Trust You' Trailer

Metro Boomin is pulling the curtains back on his beef with Drake. In the GQ Men of the Year issue, Metro revealed the issue did not involve a woman.

“Me and [Drake], we had a personal issue, and for the record, not over no girl or nothing silly like that,” Metro said according to Elliott Wilson. “It was a personal issue that really hurt me and disappointed me.

“But if you take all the rap entertainment out of it, it’s like, have you ever been real cool with somebody, and y’all fell out over something?,” he continued. “It happens every day. It’s just regular shit. This just happens to have an audience.”

He also revealed that the two albums created with Future, We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, were not made with Drake in mind. “People really think we sat for two years, making two albums [to be] like, Yo, fuck this dude. What kind of shit is that?

Future Speaks on “Like That,” Says He is ‘Chilling’ on Any Beef

Future Declares He's 'Locked in Album Mode' on Twitter

Future is finally sharing his piece on “Like That,” the Kendrick Lamar-featured song from his We Don’t Trust You album that started one of the most infamous beefs in hip-hop history.

Appearing in the GQ Men of the Year issue alongside Metro Boomin, Future jokingly stated he is confused by the situation.

“I’m supposed to be the one who gets mad; I’m still confused about that,” he said. “Nobody cares what I think. That’s what was so fucked up about the shit. To the point where I’m so player that I ain’t even said anything about how I feel about it.

“Like, why is everybody mad when he was talking about me on my song? So y’all just forgot about me, I ain’t part of this Big Three, I’m nobody on my song, man.”

Now, it’s worth noting the pen behind the article notes Future’s comments were “faux self-deprecation.” Future added, “If I didn’t get mad, nobody should have gotten mad! If I would have been really mad about it and I made something out of it, then someone else could be like, Oh, I can make something else about it.”

For his part, Future says he “Got no reason to be mad at nobody. I just told you, I’m chilling. Do I sound like I’m mad at anybody?”

Today In Hip Hop History: Wu Tang Clan Dropped Their Third LP ‘The W’ Album 24 Years Ago

On this day in Hip Hop history Wu Tang Clan releases their third studio LP The W. As the follow up to the immensely successful Wu Tang Forever, this album fell a little short of its predecessors success but continued in growing the Wu’s legacy as a whole.

At the time of the album’s production and release, Wu Tang member ODB was facing a legal-saga with seemingly no end. Although that may have stopped Dirt Dog’s ability to grace the album more than once, it did not however derail the Clan’s creative process and ability to execute. Much to the tone of their past work, The W once again proved that Wu-Tang is lyrically the strongest rap collective of all time. As far as production however, RZA toned down the intricate instrumentation used on Forever and went back to the 36 Chambers style of soulful samples coupled with melancholic  drum patterns. This back to basic model allowed the Clan to stand out lyrically as they once did.

Commercially, the album was an international success. It peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 as well as #1 in the UK and Ireland. The album won numerous Album of the Year awards from esteemed publications and is herald as one of Hip Hop’s greater albums.

Fresh To Death: The Impact Of Black Brands On Hip Hop Fashion

Screenshot 2024 11 20 at 7.38.31 PM

Screenshot 2024 11 20 at 7.38.31 PM

In the past five decades of fashion and jewelry in Hip Hop culture, there has always been a sense of opulence coupled with gaudy excess no matter which decade you choose. From the raw sheepskin coats tailored by Italian leather makers on Delancey Street to Dapper Dan’s monogram Gucci, Louie, Fendi and MCM, Hip Hop’s fashion instructional manual was based on foreign exclusivity until the birth of the Black fashion brands.

Screenshot 2024 11 21 at 12.36.21 AM

Kangol hats, Playboy and Wallabee Clarks, all made in England, were all some of the hottest fashion brands during Hip Hop’s inception. Even sneakers such as Adidas and Puma, which both have their roots in Germany, were the flyest kicks money could buy until Nike revealed the Air Jordan in 1985. Interestingly enough, only American made jeans were “fashionably fit”, such as Lees and even Jordache Jeans, which has its origins in Bushwick, Brooklyn. It wasn’t until the late 80s that American made brands made by Black people became fashionable and was popularized by Hip Hop artists and notable celebrities.

Talented, pioneering clothiers such as Karl Kani, FUBU and Cross Colours were some of the first to launch mainstream clothing brands that were embraced by Hip Hop, but their fearlessness ushered in a wave of fashion entrepreneurs in the next decade to come and they had the Hip Hop community locked in as consumers. Def Jam co-founder Russel Simmons’ Phat Farm, which debuted in 1992 followed by Baby Phat in 1999, was the first authentic fashion brand to come from under the fold of Hip Hop.

Screenshot 2024 11 21 at 12.47.33 AM

It wasn’t long before Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs came behind Simmons and perfected Uncle Rush’s prototype with Sean John in 1998. It was a tremendous boost for the Sean John brand that DIddy had some of the hottest mainstream artists on his Bad Boy roster at the time, including Black Rob, The L.O.X., Ma$e, Faith Evans and this was only a year after the untimely death of the Notorious B.I.G. Wu-Wear popped up in 1997 and rode the wave of the WTC fame well into the turn of the century. It wasn’t long before Sean John saw competition with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Wear brand, which seemed to dominate over all of the other brands created by Hip Hop personalities, but there were many more to follow. Nelly gained popularity with women with his Apple Bottom Jeans, while 50 Cent’s G-Unit Clothing had a run during his Get Rich Or Die Tryin‘ era, even taking a stab a G-Unit sneaker manufactured by Reebok. Within the next few years, Snoop Dogg, Outkast, Eve, Eminem, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Ruff Ryders all had their own line of clothing, virtually over saturating the market and killing the demand.

Screenshot 2024 11 21 at 12.45.37 AM

There were many Black brands that played their own role during that era including Dada Supreme, PNB Nation, Mecca, Shabazz Brothers(Big L and Swizz both wearing Shabazz Brothers leathers above), Enyce, Willie Esco, Lugz, Akademiks, D-Lo USA, Walker Wear, RP55 and more paved the way for brands such as Billionaire Boys Club, Yeezy, Essentials(Fear Of God), Denim Tears, Off-White and the popular Black brands that have carried on the tradition of Hip Hop fashion.
