Westside Gunn’s fifth album AND THEN YOU PRAY FOR ME is just a few days away from release. It is going to be a massive listen with tons of big-name features. Denzel Curry, JID, Tay Keith, Conway the Machine, DJ Drama, and plenty more are on the amazing tracklist. It is a follow-up to his 2020, Pray for Paris, which features some of his best tracks. There is quite a bit of hype around it and it will be on all streaming platforms on October 13. However, a lot of hip-hop fans might be disappointed.
Apparently, this going to be the last album for Gunn. According to HipHopDX, he spoke with Rolling Stone in a recent interview. It was put out just yesterday (October 9) and he discussed what fans should expect to hear on this project and going forward. But, the biggest nugget is that no more albums will be made. Westside says, “making a studio album, I’m done with all that. It’s back to dumping until I don’t want to dump no more. I’m going to have fun now. It’s no more pressure. This album was pressure to me.”
While this is sad to hear on the surface, the Buffalo rapper is not retiring by any stretch. He continues, “I’m not saying I won’t come with a five-song EP with Madlib or I won’t do a seven-song EP with Alchemist or I won’t rap. I’ll do all of that.” Gunn mentions that he wants to help put other new artists on the map, explore new sounds, and have fun with his music. If this is really it for albums, we are sure he will deliver on his last hoorah.

Additionally, two different tracks from the project “First Person Shooter” with J. Cole, and “IDGAF” with Yeat are currently competing to debut at the top spot on the Hot 100. Consequently that monumental commercial success translated to an impressive uptick in Spotify listeners as well. Drizzy became the first rapper ever to hit 80 million monthly listeners on the platform. He currently sits as the third most-listened-to artist in the world behind only Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.
Joe Budden had a reaction to For All The Dogs that Drake didn’t take kindly to and as a result, they started a beef. Subsequently, Drizzy clapped back at Budden for failing as a rapper and switching to other mediums in an Instagram post over the weekend. An impressive amount of fellow celebrities have come to his defense. Kai Cenat, Stephen A Smith, and even Budden’s former co-host Mal came down on the rapper’s side.

Napolean, a former rapper for Outlawz, says Snoop Dogg takes subtle digs at 2Pac when he discusses the late rapper. Speaking during an interview with The Art of Dialogue, Napolean explained how Allen Hughes and Snoop both make themselves look better while praising Pac.
“Some of these individuals, they very slick,” he began. “You have the Hughes brothers, you have certain individuals like Snoop, for example — they have a way where they acting like they praising Pac, but they[‘re] putting him down. Like [Allen Hughes] said, ‘[Snoop] dimmed his light for Pac to shine.’ They do it in such a slick way so you can be like, ‘Oh wow, he’s not a hater.’”

Allen Hughes is currently working on a biopic of Snoop Dogg. The comments referenced by Napoleon stem from an interview Hughes did with the Rap Radar Podcast, in which he explained how Snoop was one of the biggest stars during the 1990s. “You got a guy [Snoop] that was the rockstar of that era,” Hughes said. “And in the same era, he’s on trial for murder… and thank God, [he] beats the case. And then you got all that little window where Snoop dimmed his light for 2Pac. I never understood that back then. Indeed, Remember My Name was his debut album, but it was not the first project Lil Durk had put out. Before the album, Durk already had released five mixtapes between 2011 and 2014. Moreover, he had steadily gained a cult following and generated considerable buzz as an artist. This was boosted after the releases of Signed to the Streets (2013) and Signed to the Streets 2 (2014). The success of the two mixtapes subsequently helped Durk secure a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. While chatting with Complex, he revealed that he and Lil Reese were “the first acts from Chicago to sign straight to Def Jam. No other imprints. We’re straight to Def Jam — no middleman.” Remember My Name was released on June 2, 2015, and put a well-deserved spotlight on Lil Durk and his career.

Other guest appearances on the album include Logic on “Tryna’ Tryna’” and on the album’s deluxe edition, Hypno Carlito on “Ghetto (Grew Up),” and King Popo on “Remember My Name.” Some of the album’s standout tracks are “Like Me,” “Higher,” and “Tryna’ Tryna’.”
Upon its release, Remember My Name received mixed reviews from critics. Commercially, even though the album cannot be compared to Lil Durk’s more recent works, it definitely was not a failure by any means. In fact, at the time, it was his most successful work, and his first project to make it onto the Billboard 200 chart. Remember My Name peaked at number 14 on the chart and marked a new beginning for Lil Durk.
As a result, the album’s success paved the way for Lil Durk’s continued growth in the rap industry. It solidified his presence and opened doors for future collaborations and projects. Remember My Name established Lil Durk as a significant figure in the Chicago Hip Hop scene, and the larger rap community. For the past few days, hip-hop bloggers and podcasters have been catching plenty of heat for sharing their opinions. In particular, we’ve seen Drake trading shots with both Charlamagne Tha God and Joe Budden regarding his new For All The Dogs album. Clearly being put on blast by the 6ix God didn’t phase the former. He had plenty to say about another rhymer – Kanye West – during a recent episode of his Brilliant Idiots podcast.
“I’ll tell you what Drake has that I don’t think Kanye has anymore,” The Breakfast Club host said in the clip below. “I think Drake has a devoted fanbase for his music. Kanye’s fanbase, people like Kanye, you know, whether it’s for the antics, for the sneakers, whatever else,” Charlamagne further speculated. “But you might not be checking for his music.” Co-host Andrew Schulz then chimed in with a story about being at a comic show and watching everyone in the vicinity rap along to Drizzy, which he compared to being at “a Taylor Swift concert.”
Of course, the Canadian artist has put out four noteworthy albums in the past few months. As for West, he’s focusing on fashion and his marriage to Bianca Censori. Schulz pointed out that older tracks from the latter’s discography would earn a similar reaction as what he saw with Drake, but when it comes to new music from the Chicago native, audiences don’t seem to get as hyped up to sing along.
