Las Vegas Sphere Dazzles on Opening Weekend, Looks to Change the Future of the Live Concert Experience

Las Vegas Sphere Dazzles on Opening Weekend, Looks to Change the Future of the Live Concert Experience

After years of waiting, the highly-anticipated Las Vegas Sphere finally opened this week with U2 kicking off the venue’s inaugural weekend. And what a weekend it was. The $2.3 billion dollar project was met with amazing reviews with critics complimenting the visuals, sounds, and overall ambience of what some dubbed “the concert of the future.”

The concert’s opening night, which was attended by celebrities such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Josh Duhamel, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Katy Perry, Jeff Bezos, Jon Hamm, Paul McCartney, Flavor Flav, and more, was preceded by a DJ that drove around in a neon car playing classic pop hits before U2 took the stage (a half hour late, reportedly due to technical issues).

U2 performed two hours of their classic hits (and some new ones) on a rotating stage while the sphere’s domed ceilings and walls changed from digital collages of Las Vegas nostalgia to colorful kaleidoscope imagery to falling night stars to a desert scene that was so hyperrealistic that it almost seemed like concertgoers were outside during the day time.

The Sphere’s architects have noted that until now, no major indoor venues were build specifically for music with many concerts taking place at football or basketball stadiums, meaning that the acoustics and viewing were not always ideal for concerts.

Since July, Las Vegas residents and visitors have already seen the Sphere’s 580,000 square foot fully-programmable LED exterior (the Exosphere) become an eyeball, planet earth, a basketball, an emoji, and much more. This weekend,

The Exosphere consists of approximately 1.2 million LED pucks, spaced eight inches apart. Each puck contains 48 individual LED diodes, with each diode capable of displaying 256 million different colors. The Sphere is 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide. For reference- the venue could fit the entire Statue of Liberty (including the base and torch) inside The interior’s bowl-shaped seating area holds 18,600 and boasts 160,000 speakers with over 260 million video pixels, immersing the audience in the experience while still keeping the performers as the central focus.

For now, U2 has scheduled their two month residency, “U2: UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere,” at the venue although many other artists are reportedly in talks for 2024 performances.

While tickets for the U2 show are pretty costly (starting at about $500), the Sphere also offers “the first Sphere Experience,” Postcard from Earth directed by Darren Aronofsky, with tickets starting at about $49. More info on all the venue’s upcoming events can be found here.

What Did Kanye West Say About Cardi B?

Did you know that Cardi B is an Illuminati plant?

At least, that’s what Kanye West seemed to think in leaked video clip that has gone viral on Twitter (which I, personally, am never going to call “X”). In the clip, Kanye says, Cardi B is a plant by the Illuminati… She doesn’t write her raps. She’s just there to sound as ignorant as possible. She’s literally replaced Nicki Minaj purposely… She thinks it’s a blessing from the universe, it ain’t no f*cking blessing.”

Now, it’s important to take all this with a grain of salt. Kanye’s hair and clothing in the video suggest that it was shot sometime in 2018, when he was in the middle of his “bipolar is my superpower,” communing-with-nature-in-Wyoming era. You may recall that a documentary was being shot around that time and he also had some not-so-nice things to say to his onetime collaborator Chance The Rapper. He’s also known being somewhat… let’s just say “erratic” — both before this clip and more recently.

Likewise, since the video was shot, Kanye has worked with Cardi B (and Lil Durk) on her 2022 single “Hot Sh*t.” Cardi herself reminded followers that ‘Ye has also been plenty complimentary of her mic skills as well, posting a clip from Kanye’s 2022 interview with Jason Lee of Hollywood Unlocked in which he contradicts the above statements. “I’ve always believed in her since she was on Love & Hip-Hop: New York,” he said.

Is it “Oochie Wally” or is “One Mic,” Kanye?

Funk Flex Blasts Charlamagne Tha God For Sexual Assault Allegations

Two radio hosts are as caught up in their beef as ever, with one taking advantage of the other’s skeletons in the closet. Moreover, Funk Flex recently took to Instagram to once again call out a rival in the media space: Charlamagne Tha God. Specifically, this call-out revolves around The Breakfast Club host’s sexual assault accusations, dating back to an alleged 2001 incident. Furthermore, the Hot 97 icon caught wind of an April 2023 news story covering how Charlamagne wants to dismiss the legal filing altogether. The real story behind it isn’t exactly what Flex is assuming, but it’s nonetheless a jab.

“UMMMMM?” Funk Flex captioned a screenshot of the aforementioned Charlamagne Tha God article. “YOU CAUGHT ANOTHER (NEW) LAWSUIT APRIL 21, 2023? I DONT THINK U SETTLED THAT? @cthagod (AND YOU CALLING PEOPLE PATHETIC?) LET YOUR LAWYER KNOW I CAN TALK ABOUT THIS CAUSE VIBE MAG ALREADY DID?” In reality, this news piece covers the years-long case from Jessica Reid against Charlamagne, so it’s not technically a new lawsuit. Still, the battle continues to develop, with new information emerging from it every so often.

Charlamagne Tha God Called Out By Funk Flex

For example, he denied any and all accusations of battery, defamation, and sexual assault against Jessica Reid at a 2001 party, the charges that make up the lawsuit. Charlamagne Tha God and his team pointed out that the DNA from the assault kit doesn’t match his own in the case in a recent filing, supposedly proving his innocence. “[Reid] has persisted in broadly disseminating her unsubstantiated claims,” the documents read according to the VIBE report in question. “[She ignores] that the South Carolina Solicitor in 2018 declined her request to re-open the case due to a lack of evidence while confirming that no basis existed to bring sexual assault charges against Charlamagne.” “Witnesses had attested to the fact that Charlamagne had already left the party when the alleged assault occurred,” his lawyer elaborated.

“We are confident that Ms. Reid’s meritless civil lawsuit in which she represents herself will be promptly dismissed,” Charlamagne’s attorney stated. “This is the same sexual assault claim that was fully investigated and dismissed by authorities in South Carolina more than 21 years ago.” We’ll see if there’s anything more to uncover in this case. Check back in with HNHH for more updates and the latest news on Funk Flex and Charlamagne Tha God.

Kid Cudi’s “Man On The Moon: The End Of Day” Turns 14

This year marks the 14th anniversary of Kid Cudi’s debut studio album, Man On The Moon: The End Of Day. Following his 2008 mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, the Cleveland artist was making major waves in hip hop. He already appeared on albums by JAY-Z and Kanye West, and the momentum and efforts subsequently landed him a coveted spot in the 2009 XXL Freshman Class. A highly anticipated debut, Man on the Moon: The End of Day took over the Internet upon its release.

The album boasted a wide range of producers who helped craft Kid Cudi’s intergalactic sound. Haynie, Plain Pat, Free School, Dot Da Genius, Ratatat, Kanye West, and Kid Cudi all handled production on the project. Meanwhile, an eclectic group of collaborators, including Chip Tha Ripper, Ratatat, MGMT, Billy Cravens, and West, aided in Kid Cudi’s debut album, while Common both rapped on and narrated Man On The Moon. Upon its release, Kid Cudi’s debut peaked at. No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and was a top ten album on the R&B/Hip Hop albums chart. The 4x platinum album was nominated for three Grammys and is widely regarded as an influential release that altered the trajectory of hip hop. Today, we are revisiting Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon: The End of Day for its 14th anniversary.

Kid Cudi Took Flight On His Debut

Kid Cudi’s debut album is known for its futuristic production and space-influenced aesthetic. A natural progression of his work on A Kid Named Cudi and his contributions to 808s & Heartbreak, his unique approach to hip-hop redefined the boundaries that many artists were confined to. He incorporated elements of indie pop, electronica, and rock across the album’s tracklist, split into five different acts. Over the course of 15 songs, Cudi’s signature croons and hums complimented the album’s overall mood and accentuated his lyrics. However, underneath the colorful, psychedelic production, Cudi confronted depression, loneliness, anxiety, and addiction.

The album’s lead singles highlighted the contrast between the production and subject matter. For example, the catchy “Day N Nite” copes with loss while “Pursuit Of Happiness” deals with the dark side of fame and addiction. Man On The Moon’s deep cuts reveal Kid Cudi at his most vulnerable on songs like “Soundtrack 2 My Life” and “Solo Dolo.” While he would evolve artistically, the mental health struggles displayed on Kid Cudi’s debut carried onto Man on the Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager and his later works.

A New Beginning for Hip Hop’s Future

Man on the Moon: The End of Day was truly groundbreaking at the time of its release. Stylistically, the album influenced modern hip-hop production with its spacey instrumentation and melodic approach to rapping. It also created a space for rappers to be vulnerable when discussing topics of depression and loneliness in their music. An influential album for hip hop’s next generation, many artists refer to Kid Cudi as an inspiration, directly citing the impact that Man on the Moon had on their sound.

Artists like Travis Scott, Logic, Isaiah Rashad, ScHoolboy Q, and A$AP Rocky have also taken inspiration from Man on the Moon. Many of these names discussed the album’s impact in Cudi’s A Man Named Scott documentary. Pete Davidson even referred to the album as “the best album of all time” and that it saved his life. Looking back, Man on the Moon: The End of Day was a cutting-edge release that defined its era, and paved the way for hip hop’s future. Over a decade later, it has proven to be influential with a legacy of its own.

Diddy Believes Yung Miami Will Be Like Oprah Winfrey

During a recent interview, Diddy gave his thoughts on what he thinks the next generation of hip-hop moguls will look like. Of course, considering his extensive business portfolio and profile in both realms, few are as qualified, experienced, and successful when it comes to their predictions. Moreover, it also comes as no surprise that the Bad Boy head honcho would compare a billionaire-to-be with one of the most adorned media figures ever. Furthermore, he compared Yung Miami to Oprah, and said that she’ll one day match her status in her own lane and become a rap billionaire. Clearly, Sean Combs has a lot of faith and support for his on-and-off-again flame.

Nipsey Hussle, to me, was that young Puff version,” Diddy remarked of a question about which rising stars could become business titans like him one day. “But one person that I can say right now is Travis Scott. I can relate to how he’s diversifying his portfolio and really understanding how to take it to the next level.” Then, he evoked Oprah while describing the City Girl, speaking specifically on their various media outlets.

Diddy Dishes On The Rap Billionaires Of Tomorrow

“I also think Yung Miami [real name Caresha Brownlee] from the City Girls,” Diddy continued. “She reminds me of Oprah with the endless possibilities that she has as far as her clothing line, television shows, performances, live podcasts. I really respect both of their hustles and see them being able to break through.” Of course, this isn’t a bad prediction to make at all, considering the success of the Caresha Please podcast and the Florida native’s other business endeavors. In fact, this is a timely comparison to make, as she recently (and hilariously) revealed what NSFW question she would ask Oprah.

Meanwhile, the next class of rap billionaires might look very different, but that’s the exciting nature of conversations like these. It seems like there are more people than ever poised to claim a spot, as the genre continues to grow and expand its reach. Who do you think will be the next Jay-Z? Let us know in the comments and stick around on HNHH for the latest updates on Diddy, Yung Miami, and Oprah.

Chrisean Rock Praises Lil Baby After Blueface Calls Her Sister Tesehki “A Real One”

The pressure of being in the public eye combined with new motherhood has proven to be difficult for Chrisean Rock. Still, rather than hide herself away from the world, the 23-year-old has continued to share positive updates with her followers on social media – all while continuing to go tit for tat with Blueface. Last month, the new parents welcomed their first child together, after one of the most tumultuous celebrity pregnancies we’ve ever seen. It briefly seemed as though Rock would be signing to her co-parent’s MILF Music label, but during an emotional rant, the young entertainer revealed that Blue was asking for too much from her that she wasn’t comfortable doing.

Things only became more intense in the days following that, as the “Thotiana” rapper posted a photo of his baby boy’s hernia (and his genitals) online for the world to see. Blue has since claimed his phone was stolen and his account was hacked, but Rock has remained adamant about pressing charges against her Cr*zy In Love co-star. Amid all of this, reality TV lovers have been watching more of the 23-year-old’s wild pregnancy antics play out on Zeus’ Baddies East, which also happens to star Chrisean’s older sister.

Blueface Shouts Out Chrisean Rock’s Big Sister

After tuning in to this past weekend’s episode, Blue found the perfect way to push his ex’s buttons. “Tesehki a real one,” he tweeted in the early hours of Monday (September 2) morning. Seeing as Rock has a bumpy past with her sibling, which the Californian is well aware of, this message was sure to leave her feeling some type of way.

However, instead of reacting emotionally, the “Lit” recording artist opted to hit Blue where she knew it would really hurt him. “Lil Baby a real one,” she tweeted just a few hours ago, earning almost double the likes that her baby daddy has accumulated so far.
