‘Ripleys Believe It Or Not!’ Refutes Claims That Kim Kardashian Ruined Marilyn Monroe’s Dress

Kim Kardashian

This past week, pictures of a before and after of the Marilyn Monroe dress that Kim Kardashian wore at the Met Gala were shared on social media. People accused Kim of ruining the dress after pictures showed missing crystals and pulled seams.

However, earlier today, June 16, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! responded to the accusations made against Kardashian, saying that the dress was in such condition when they bought it in 2017.

“Kim Kardashian’s walk up the Metropolitan Museum’s stairs at this year’s Met Gala caused quite the stir, but one thing Ripley’s Believe It or Not! can say with confidence is that it did not cause damage to Marilyn Monroe’s famed ‘Happy Birthday’ dress from 1962,” Ripley’s said in a statement.

The statement continued, saying that a report they received when they bought the dress over 5 years ago detailed the damage that the dress had sustained. After all, the dress was already more than 50 years old.

“A report written on the dress’s condition in early 2017 states, ‘a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes,’ among other instances of damage.”

The statement also stated that Kardashian only wore the dress while on the red carpet, returned it, and was given a replica when she reached the top of the Met Gala stairs. “From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in,” said Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s vice president of publishing and licensing and who the company noted oversaw the dress the day of the Gala and its transportation.”

Marilyn Monroe’s “Birthday Dress” Reportedly Has Damage After Being Worn Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala

The iconic Birthday Dress of Marilyn Monroe has reportedly been damaged after being worn by Kim Kardashian to The Met Gala.

According to Pop Culture, the most expensive dress in the world worn by Monroe in 1962 shows signs of tearing and missing crystals after being worn by Kim K.

According to Page Six Style, Kim K dropped 16 pounds just to fit in the gown. After she walked the red carpet of the Met Gala, Kim K changed into a replica of the dress.

After the Met Gala, the “Birthday Dress” designer Bob Mackie was not happy that Kardashian wore the dress. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Mackie called wearing the dress “a big mistake.”

“[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her,” Mackie stated. “Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”

Mackie drew the design for Jean Louis in 1962, who would fashion Monroe for the president of John F. Kennedy. Monroe would die three months later.

Kim Kardashian wore the dress as she strolled the red carpet with her bae, Pete Davidson. Leading up to the big event, the dress was displayed at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum in Orlando, Florida.

“Well, this is Marilyn Monroe’s dress and it is 60 years old and she wore this when she sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to President John F. Kennedy in 1962,” Kardashian confirmed to La La on the red carpet. “I had this idea to try it on and then they came with armed guards and gloves.”

The dress originally cost $12,000 and was created around Monroe, who was sewn into it as it was made.

Dream Doll Recreates Lil Kim’s Iconic Look for One Of Hip-Hop’s Biggest Nights

dream doll

Dream Doll took the stage at Hot 97’s Summer Jam Sunday night in an outfit that resembled an iconic look that was all too familiar. The ‘Ice Cream Dream’ rapper payed homage to the Queen Bee by recreating the one sleeved jumpsuit she wore to the 1999 MTV Music Awards, which exposed one breast and that Diana Ross most famously jiggled while they were onstage presenting an award.  The look, created by Stylist/Designer extraordinaire Misa Hylton, was made of a lilac fabric with silver and purple seashells embroidered throughout, which famously exposed one breast covering Kim’s nipple with a seashell pasty. Dream Doll recreates and updates the same look using camouflage and sparkles on both the jumpsuit and on the one exposed breast.  In a past interview with “Pop Sugar” Misa shared where she got the inspiration for the look.   “Missy Elliott actually inspired the look,” Misa said. “We were hanging out one weekend and we were talking about fashion and Lil’ Kim, and she said, ‘You know what? If I was Kim, I would just say f*ck it and I would have one titty out.’ Because Kim could do some crazy sh*t like that. So I just said, wow, that would be kind of hot. So I saved the idea, and the next big event we had was the 1999 MTV Music Awards.”  Today, the iconic purple pasty jumpsuit for Lil Kim is archived in a secret location.

“I’m involved with a campaign called ‘It’s Bigger Than Me’,” Latifah said. “It’s about the shame attached to weight, the stigma attached to it, what people talk about, how they talk about you, the little words people drop.I think if people understood it more, then it could change the conversation.”

In the conversation with Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Gammy, Latifah highlights the scrutiny that she has faced her entire career, dating back to the studio executives attempting to pressure the Living Single cast into losing weight.

“That was one of the major ones. And it happened a couple times. We helped create ‘Living Single.’ So when you look at that picture, you see four different women, four different shades, four different types, and we look like four women who would live in Brooklyn.”

Barack Obama Reunites With Young Boy Who Touched His Hair, 13 Years Later

Barack Obama

A few months after former President Barack Obama took office, five-year-old Jacob Philadelphia stepped into the Oval Office with his father who was then a National Security Council staffer, mother and older brother, unaware that he would become part of the legacy of America’s first Black commander-in-chief.  During the short visit, Jacob quietly asked the President, “I want to know if my hair is just like yours,” After hearing the question, Obama remarked: “Why don’t you touch it and see for yourself?” bending over to a hesitant Jacob with Obama insisting “Touch it, dude!”  White House Photographer Pete Souza Captured the moment and named the shot “Hair Like Mine” which would go viral and become one of the most iconic shots of his presidency.  Jacob, now 18 years old, graduated from high school in Uganda last week. Ahead of his graduation , Jacob got a chance to reflect on the image on a surprise call with the former President.  “That was a pretty big highlight of my life,” Jacob said of the photo. “It is very wonderful to see representation in the government because if I get to see another Black man be at the top, be at that pinnacle, then I want to follow that lead.”  Jacob also shared with the former president that he plans on attending the University of Memphis and study political science.  “I think the White House visit clearly inspired you, I hope,” Obama said. “Yes, it really has,” Jacob responded.  Former President Barack Obama shared the video on Twitter with the caption. “Jacob Philadelphia was five years old when he visited the Oval Office and asked if his hair was like mine. That photo became one of our favorites – a reminder of the power of seeing yourself in your leaders. Today, he’s graduating from high school! Check out our recent reunion.” Take a look at the inspiring moment below.

Aunjanue Ellis is Living Her Truth ‘I Am Queer — This Is Who I Am’

anjanue Ellis

Although it has never been a secret to her friends and family ‘King Richard’ actress Aunjanue Ellis opens up about being bisexual.  “The way that I live my life, around the people that I live my life around, I am public about it,” Ellis says. “I’m very clear about being bisexual. I have a sweatshirt that says ‘Girl Bi’ that I wear everywhere.” she said in a statement to ‘Variety’ In her 30 years of acting,  Why is her sexuality now the topic of discussion? Particularly in a world where every aspect of one’s life is discussed, in her  “Nobody asked.” She told Variety.  She even went as far as wearing it on her sleeve (literally), at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards.  With the word “Queer” spelled out in rhinestones emblazoned on the left arm of her red-hot Dolce & Gabbana suit jacket.  But no one on the press line outside the Beverly Wilshire hotel asked Ellis about it. Ellis also says that its been it’s been Black women in the entertainment business who’ve said the most injurious things to her about queerness, with no regard for her sexuality. For reasons Ellis can’t quite put her finger on, people fail to recognize she’s part of the LGBTQ community.  Who has gone as far as  to send a mass email to her colleagues (she didn’t mention any names) regarding homophic remarks they’ve made “I was like, ‘Look, I love y’all. I appreciate my relationships and friendships, working and otherwise with all of you, but you need to know that I am bisexual,’” she recounts. “So when you say things, when you have felt your most intimate with me, that are queer-phobic, you are talking about me. And it hurts. “There is an assumption made of me — a presumption made of me. Is it because I’m a Black woman from Mississippi? Is it because I’m older?” she muses. “I don’t know what the mechanics are that goes into them not processing, or them not just being able to believe that in the same way I am Black, I am queer. This is who I am.” We are happy Anjanue is living her truth.
