Halle Bailey Hilariously Pops Off In New DDG YouTube Vlog

Since The Little Mermaid hit theatres in late May, the world has only fallen more in love with Halle Bailey. While racists may disagree, the 23-year-old actress was arguably the best choice to play Ariel, perfectly personifying the redheaded princess alongside friends like Sebastian, Flounder, and Scuttle. Halle continued to carry herself with regal grace all through the movie’s press tour, but according to DDG’s most recent YouTube vlog, she’s now back at home and feeling much freer to be herself around loved ones.

In a brief clip reposted by @theneighborhoodtalk on Instagram, the Atlanta-born vocalist sits with her boyfriend in a room full of friends and family members. Rather than the stunning designer gowns we’ve seen her sauntering down the red carpet in over the past month, Bailey opted to keep it cozy in a matching sweatsuit, also letting her natural beauty shine, sans makeup. She still looks every bit as radiant as Ariel, but the words that come out of her mouth prove that she’s officially out of Disney mode (for now).

“Y’all are stupid,” she boldly declares as those around her chatter. Then, pointing at DDG, Bailey yells, “This n*gga get y’all every mother*cking time!” Her tone becomes increasingly loud with every word, and her man can’t help but laugh as she pushes her finger toward his face. “Y’ALL ARE STUPID!” the “Do It” hitmaker adds one more time for effect.

While the moment is undeniably hilarious, many have left replies suggesting that it would’ve been wise for DDG to leave the moment out when editing his vlog. “Why would he post this private moment video? She’s currently in a whole Disney movie,” one of them pondered. “I hope she sees this for what it is. He don’t care about her, this a clout move on his part,” they further speculated. Halle Bailey Watches “The Little Mermaid” In Theatres Wearing A Disguise

Before she took on the role of Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, Halle Bailey was best known for her vocal talents alongside her big sister Chloe in their R&B duo. Their debut project, Ungodly Hour brought them massive success, but we have yet to hear a sophomore effort from the siblings. Instead, the older of the two has been focusing on her solo career with In Pieces and a movie called Praise This. At the same time, the younger has been gearing up for her feature film debut which finally took place last week.

Halle has unfortunately faced considerable racist backlash for taking the traditionally white role as a Black woman. Nevertheless, her performance proves that she was the perfect pick for the role, as many critics have already stated. While she likely already knows the script like the back of her hand, the 23-year-old wanted to get the authentic theatre experience. In order to keep a low profile, she donned sunglasses and a COVID-19 face mask to conceal her identity.

The Little Mermaid is Already a Hit

Rather than sticking with Ariel’s signature red style from the film, Bailey also opted to sport thick twists of hair, making her almost more mistakable for Chloe. As Uproxx notes, she appears to have been viewing The Little Mermaid at Americana at Brand’s AMC in Glendale, which is an area that celebrities have been known to frequent. Based on the TikTok she posted this week, the “Do It” songstress doesn’t appear to have broken her cover.

Elsewhere on social media, the Atlanta native shared an adorable video of her and her boyfriend DDG exchanging countless smooches following the conclusion of the worldwide Disney media tour with co-stars and executives who helped the long-awaited film come to fruition. ‘The Little Mermaid’ Halle Bailey Went Undercover To Watch Her Movie In The Theater With A Truly Laughable Disguise

Movie stars have always donned disguises to engage in everyday activities like shopping and going to the movies but usually, it only works when they go to extremes like Drake once did to attend a friend’s court appearance (he says even then, people still recognized him). However, The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey recently got away with a simple-but-effective one herself when she went to a public theater to watch her film debut by herself, even when she stopped to get a video of the massive, wall-spanning video poster touting the film in the lobby.

The “costume” in question consisted of a pair of dark sunglasses and a face mask, which were apparently all it took to obscure her recognizable features, even as she passed by fans taking selfies with the poster screen. It probably helps that her signature locs had been restyled into thicker twists and colored brown as opposed to the vivid red of her character. For what it’s worth, the theater appears to be the AMC at Americana at Brand in Glendale, which isn’t so far from Hollywood that celebrity appearances are very unusual, so if anyone did actually recognize her, they were probably at least a little bit more chill about it.

The Little Mermaid is certainly not a flop for Disney. The opening weekend of the film was anticipated to generate a domestic box office revenue ranging from $120 million to $130 million. The movie premiered in the United States last week and features Halle Bailey as the titular character. It was expected to achieve Disney’s fourth highest-grossing opening weekend. That would have left it trailing behind Top Gun: Maverick, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In the end, The Little Mermaid film pulled in around $117 million domestically. That makes it one of the most successful Memorial Day weekend releases of all time.

It’s unclear what the altercation was about. One woman can be heard yelling at another saying that she asked her to politely stop doing something. What the other viewer was doing was not revealed in the video. Many took to the comments on the post by The Shade Room. According to them, the outlet should not have posted the video. In their eyes, it takes away from the triumph of the film.

In a recent interview with Glamour, Halle opened up about seeing videos of young black girls reacting to her as Ariel. “When I saw those for the first time, I just cried,” she told the magazine. “I was sobbing uncontrollably. In a recent interview ahead of the film’s premiere next week, the Atlanta-born artist spoke candidly about her relationship with DDG, and how constantly being bombarded with the opinions of strangers on social media can be troubling to her. Rather than doom-scroll through all the drama, Bailey prefers to log off and spend time focusing on the things in front of her.

“The biggest thing I’ve learned in dating when it comes to dating in the public eye, is that everybody’s gonna have an opinion about you, whether it’s good or bad” she reflected. “I’ve had this since I was younger. I think because I’ve grown up, kind of in the public eye, people think they have this sort of… I don’t know, that they can say what they feel about my life.
