A New Movie Based On Pharrell’s Childhood Will Feature Halle Bailey, Janelle Monáe, Anderson. Paak, And Missy Elliott

Pharrell had one of the year’s most notable movies with Piece By Piece, a biopic animated in the style of Lego. He’s not finished telling his story through film yet: It was just revealed he’s teaming up with Michel Gondry on Golden, a movie set for 2025 that was inspired by his childhood.

The cast is led by Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Halle Bailey. Bailey isn’t the only noteworthy musician in the movie, as the film also features Janelle Monáe, Anderson. Paak, and Missy Elliott. The cast is rounded out by Da’vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, and Quinta Brunson.

Of the movie, Pharrell tells Empire:

Piece By Piece is about my life, whereas Golden is about a neighborhood that I grew up in. This is very different. It’s a musical expedition, set in the summer of 1977 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with the spirit of the music [of that time]. You know how in Dirty Dancing and Grease, the music was almost a character? That’s what it’s like in this film. It’s a coming-of-age story about self-discovery and pursuing your dreams, but it’s so much more magical than that. It’s a celebration of Black life, Black culture, and most importantly, Black joy.”

The film was originally titled Atlantis, after the housing development where Pharrell grew up. Of the name change, Pharrell explains, “It just speaks to the narrative, the area, the energy and literally everything about [the film, which is] this analysis of what being ‘golden’ is. Children and grown-ups with inner children within them can connect to it and realize that there’s a golden aspect to them too, whether it’s realized or latent.”

DDG Links Up With Angel Reese To Promote “What U Bad For”

DDG linked up with Angel Reese in a new video he shared on social media on Saturday. In the clip, he raps along to his new song, “What U Bad For,” which he and Real Boston Richey dropped earlier this week. In response, Reese poses next to him while he performs.

Users had plenty of jokes in response to DDG’s post when The Shade Room shared it on Instagram. Many referenced his ex, Halle Bailey. “Can y’all please stop promoting Halles baby daddy. We never knew who he was and still don’t care,” one user wrote. Another joked about their height difference. “When you trying to rizz your baby sitter but she ain’t going for it,” they remarked.

The video comes after DDG sparked rumors that he wants to get back with Halle Bailey. In a video shared to his YouTube channel, earlier this week, he explained his stance on having more children. “One thing that I do not want to do is to have ‘baby mamas’ or whatever y’all like to call it,” DDG explained, as caught by Complex. “If I was to have another kid, it definitely would be with the same person. I don’t want to have kids with multiple people. I feel like that’s just too much. I’m perfectly fine with Halo. I can live the rest of my life with just Halo as my son, I don’t need to have another kid, but I wouldn’t mind having like a daughter or something. I think that would just be dope, you know, but I want him to be able to kick it with his sibling.”

DDG and Halle welcomed their first son, Halo, late last year. They officially split up last month. Check out DDG’s video of himself hanging out with Angel Reese below.

DDG & Real Boston Richey Hype Their Ladies Up On “What U Bad For”

If you have been keeping an eye on DDG’s movement online lately, a lot of it has been related to Halle Bailey. The Michigan native has clearly not been okay since the breakup last month, even saying so himself. On a recent Q&A livestream, the rapper and YouTuber was asked about moving on and seeing someone new. He quickly shut that down, saying, “No, I’m not dating. I haven’t moved on.” Given how fresh it is, it makes a lot of sense. A lot of people have not been the kindest to him since their falling out, assuming he was at fault.

However, on his new single with Real Boston Richey, “WHAT U BAD FOR,” DDG is addressing that very topic, as well as where his mind is at regarding Halle.Yeah, they cappin’ and s*** on the blogs, they think I’m a bum, but f*** that s*** / I like when they countin’ me out, ’cause I know I’m that n****, I love that s***.” He then adds, “Thing about Halo mommy, you know that’s my baby forever, y’all know that I love that— (Go).” Whether or not this anthem for the baddies was just a vehicle to drop these bars in will remain a mystery. But if it was, it’s certainly doing its job at creating some conversation.

DDG Admits He Still Loves Halle Bailey In New Song “WHAT U BAD FOR”

DDG and Halle Bailey can’t seem to go very long without discussing one another. This is a chicken or the egg situation, admittedly. It’s impossible to know if they are talking about each other fans are interested, or if fans are interested because they are talking about each other. Either way, DDG and Bailey have been the focus of numerous stories since their break up in October. DDG, in particular, has dedicated a lot of his online content to discussing the mother of his child. He did so again on November 15, when he put out a new song.

The song in question is called “WHAT U BAD FOR.” DDG brags about all the women he’s bagged and all the money he’s made, but the most interesting bars come when he drops the boastful facade. He delves into his personal life, and the way he feels about Halle Bailey. “Thing about Halo mommy, you know that’s my baby forever,” he raps. “Y’all know that I love that—.” The word “go” takes the place of the word that would have otherwise completed the line. Elsewhere in the song, DDG talks about the criticism that he’s gotten online since the break up.

DDG Calls Halle Bailey His “Baby Forever”

“Yeah, they cappin’ and sh*t on the blogs, they think I’m a bum, but f*ck that sh*t,” DDG adds. “I like when they countin’ me out, ’cause I know I’m that n**ga, I love that sh*t.” The rapper’s bars might be a bit surprising to those who haven’t been keeping up with his live stream. Those who have, however, are aware that he has already admitted to still having feelings for Halle Bailey. In a recent Q&A stream, DDG told fans that he doesn’t want to have kids with multiple women, nor does he feel ready to date another person. “No, I’m not dating,” he asserted. “I haven’t moved on.”

DDG has mentioned Halle Bailey in his lyrics, before, but in a wildly different context. The rapper alluded to his superstar ex on the 2023 song “Famous.” He alludes to the fact that Bailey got close with her Little Mermaid co-star during the film’s press tour. “I been so insecure that I be thinkin’ you really be f*ckin’ n**gas you in movies with,” he rapped. Many theorize that this insecurity was partially to blame for the couple splitting. Either way, it appears as though there’s more to this story than a simple break up.

DDG got candid for his fans, revealing in a stream he has not moved on from Halle Bailey. “No, I’m not dating,” DDG said to his fans. “I haven’t moved on.”

He also revealed that he wants more kids but not with multiple people. He wants to have them within the next 2-3 years to avoid the new baby being too far apart in age from Halo, risking the chance they don’t have a tight bond. “I feel like that defeats the entire purpose of having another kid.”

Speaking on it he said, “I don’t want to have kids with multiple people. I feel like that’s just too much.”

DDG Admits He Hasn’t Moved On From Halle Bailey Since Their Split

DDG and Halle Bailey have been put in a difficult spot. Both artists are young and famous, and they share a child. There were attempts made on both of their parts to keep their break up a private matter. DDG put out a written statement asking fans to respect their privacy until they could adjust to life as co-parents. It has not gone as smoothly or as privately as they’d hoped. DDG and Halle Bailey have publicly addressed their frustrations with one another. The latter even admitted that he hasn’t moved on from Bailey despite their separation.

DDG dropped this emotional bombshell on November 12. The rapper and YouTuber opened up about his plans for the future. Fans in the chat asked whether he has plans to date again, and he clarified that he’s not ready. “No, I’m not dating,” DDG explained. “I haven’t moved on.” The rapper explained that he much prefers to work on music and his career instead of his love life at the moment. He then proceeded to call out fans for making up rumors whenever he’s spotted with different women. DDG was recently seen with reality star Ahna Mac, and many assumed the two were romantically linked.

DDG Wants To Have More Kids In The Future

“Y’all don’t even know, I’m just working bro,” DDG said. “I know people be weird with me on the internet and my relationship.” DDG also talked about the possibility of having more kids. He told viewers that he doesn’t want his children to be too far apart in age. “I feel like that defeats the entire purpose of having another kid,” DDG said. “Maybe in like the next 2-3 years or so.” He clarified, however, that he wants to have a kid with the same person. DDG also explained that he does not want multiple “baby mamas,” and wants to build with the same woman.

“I don’t want to have kids with multiple people,” he added. “I feel like that’s just too much.” This was a sentiment that the rapper had previously made. He’s also made a point of supporting Halle Bailey in the instances in which her parenting has been criticized by fans. Bailey was upset with DDG for letting their son appear on a Kai Cenat live stream. Despite this disagreement, the rapper defended Bailey when the internet bullied her to the point of deleting her social media accounts.

DDG Defends Ex Halle Bailey After Backlash To Her Critical Tweets

November 6 was not a particularly pleasant one for Halle Bailey. The singer discovered that her ex, DDG, brought their son onto a Kai Cenat live stream. Bailey took to Twitter to voice her disappointment in DDG, and fans proceeded to pile on her. Many felt the singer was overreacting, and that her ex should be able to do what he wants. Bailey responded by wiping her social media accounts. It all spun out of control in the span of a couple of hours. Now that the dust has settled, though, DDG has criticized fans who being critical of his ex.

“I don’t like when people hate on Halle,” DDG said via IG Live. He also admitted that he should’ve taken more stock of how the situation looked. Especially since Bailey was unaware of DDG’s plan to go on a Kai Cenat stream. “When situations like this happen,” the rapper noted. “I try to handle it with as much grace as possible. Leave Halle alone.” DDG also alluded to Bailey’s comments about postpartum, which she felt compelled to share before she deleted her Twitter account. The rapper told fans that it doesn’t matter if they think she’s right or wrong, they need to mind their business.

DDG Still Has ‘Unconditional Love’ For Halle Bailey

“She could be going through something mentally,” he noted. “After having a kid, that I can’t understand as a man. We need each other to create a childhood that’s safe and fun and memorable.” He also spoke on his relationship with Halle Bailey since their split in October. Despite having romantic differences, the rapper asserted that he will always have unconditional love and respect for her. He pointed to his son as the most important thing in his life, and acknowledged that he wouldn’t be here were it not for Bailey. “People go through this time of stuff all the time,” he remarked.

DDG’s comments earned praise from fans. The rapper has widely criticized in the wake of his split from Bailey. Some have derided his decision, while others, like Joe Budden, have outright mocked his career in comparison to Bailey’s. His handling of the live stream situation, however, has won the respect of several previous detractors. Halle Bailey hasn’t commented on DDG’s video, but she did return to social media to issue an apology to her ex.

Halle Bailey Apologizes To DDG After “Overreacting” To Son Halo’s Stream Appearance

Halle Bailey and DDG announced their breakup earlier this year, and it seems like they reached their first big public disagreement as coparents. Moreover, the former took to Twitter to call out the latter for taking their baby boy Halo to a Kai Cenat stream without her knowing about it, which resulted in a lot of debate. Some folks think that she’s completely in the right, whereas others saw this as a misguided overreaction. Well, it looks like the singer herself agrees in part with the latter group. She returned to the social media platform on Thursday morning (November 7) to offer an apology to her rapper ex for her initially strong words, although she maintained the emotional core of her principal issues with this lack of communication.

“yesterday maybe i did overreact and shouldn’t have brought it here,” Halle Bailey wrote of the situation with DDG, their son Halo, and the Kai Cenat stream. “i know that halo is always safe with his dad. i just don’t like finding out with the rest of the world what my baby is doing. thank u kai for the gifts for halo [heart emoji] [star emoji].”

Halle Bailey Walks Back Her Criticism Of DDG & Their Son Halo’s Kai Cenat Stream Appearance

This marks Halle Bailey’s return to social media after briefly deactivating her Twitter over this whole situation, indicating that some time off the Internet helped her reach a more measured conclusion in her eyes. Still, she maintained that she wants DDG – or anyone, for that matter – to properly communicate what is going on with their son Halo if she’s not there, and affirmed her belief that he’s a great father to the baby boy. Hopefully the coparents can resolve these kinds of issues moving forward not in the public space first, but in a private manner that ensures communication without resorting to a public debate. Although that is sadly necessary on occasion.

Nevertheless, both Halle Bailey and DDG are still figuring out what to make of their split and how to navigate moving forward. It’s a difficult process, especially as celebrities, but hopefully their support and empathy can mitigate these problems in the future. As always, communication is key!

DDG brought his son Halo to Kai Cenat’s livestream, and his mother, Halle Bailey, is unhappy about it.

DDG arrived at the stream carrying his son in his bag and boasted of how much the child looked like him. Cenat then dubbed himself the baby’s uncle as he pulled up a chair for the two to rest in.

After the event, Bailey released a statement on X:

“h]i everyone. just so you know i am out of town and i don’t approve of my baby being on a stream tonight. i wasn’t told or notified and i am extremely upset to have my baby in front of millions of people. i am his mother and protector and saddened that i wasn’t notified especially when i am out of town.”

Halle Bailey and DDG’s son Halo wound up becoming a bit of a meme in September, but that doesn’t mean Bailey always loves her child to be on display to a large online audience: DDG recently brought Halo into a Kai Cenat stream, which upset Bailey.

In a post shared on social media, Bailey wrote:

“hi everyone. just so you know i am out of town and i don’t approve of my baby being on a stream tonight. i wasn’t told or notified and i am extremely upset to have my baby in front of millions of people. i am his mother and protector and saddened that i wasn’t notified especially when i am out of town.”

On October, DDG announced he and Bailey had broken up, writing, “After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared. Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other. As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we’ve built and the beautiful moments we’ve shared.”
